With the recent resignation of Gary Kirsten and the appointment of Jason Gillespie as interim coach, the PCB is reportedly considering Aqib Javed for the permanent white-ball coach position. While Gillespie will take the helm for the Australian tour, rumors suggest Javed could be leading the team from the Zimbabwe series onwards.

What are your thoughts on this potential appointment?

Will Aqib Javed's experience and coaching philosophy benefit the team?

Is he the right person to take Pakistan cricket forward in the shorter formats?

In tests yes, for whiteball no. He'll be a disaster.

Too much attention to Aquib javed... At best he should be given a job of pitch curator...If PCB are too generous to him then make him head pitch curator... Nothing more than that...
He isn't good enough to be a chief selector forget about head coach..

PCB learn nothing from history. You can't appoint one person as the supreme leader of Pakistan cricket. They already did this with Misbah when they made him coach and chief-selector head and it ended badly. One person should not have this much power.

But I predicted this the day Gary Kirsten left the job so I wouldn't be the least bit surprised. Just get it over with.

But

But Jason is red ball coach and the only spot vacant is white-ball so AAqib is coming for that
I don't hate aqib. I appreciate alot that he's done and I'm also not delusional like many others.

First and foremost he got rid of deadweight like babar and abrar from tests, Got back certified performers and curated a test pitch that let pakistan finally win a home series.

Secondly about Rizzu, Tbh pakistan had put themselves in such a rubbish situation that their was no other option. Saim is too young, Fakhar has a phadda with the pcb, their really was no one else realistically and yes that includes the likes of haris and shadab who are struggling.

I hate rizzu, but if I was in aqib's shoes, given the rubbish situation ramiz raja and misbah have put me in, I would have selected Rizwan as captain as well. No choice really.

Afterwards he got rid of dead weight like chacha, Shadab, nawaz from odi and still trusted saim in odi's while everyone had written him off. He also trusted usman Khan while everyone wrote him off.

He has done well.

His biggest faults are that he did not select saim for t20, Selected parchi's like Abdullah for odi, and selected farhan for t20. Hasebullah for t20 is also a lol.

But you gotta give the guy credit where it's due.

Had Misbah or ramiz been here our odi squad would be

1) Abdullah
2) Imam
3) Babar
4) Rizwan
5) Chacha
6) Shadab
7) Niazi/ Nawaz

Atleaat aqib is getting results in test and odi.

But he's a rubbish t20 coach

Supreme leaders can work if a correct one is appointed. Not a rubbish one. For example if you appointed me, You'd be seeing a world class all format team by now.

Aqib won't do any worse then Misbah. He'll be better but the t20 side will plummet. Odi side will remain a mixed bag, Test circuit will improve.

Hahahaha. Yeah I've seen your best CT 15 which had 2 fast bowlers

Pakistan cricket will never move forward until this recycling policy is not abolished.

Aqib Javed has served as Director NCA to u-19 coach to A- team coach to bowling coach to selector and now white ball coach.

There's a phrase in Urdu for this kind of thinking:

'Tumhara kutta kutta, mera kutta tommy."

I think PCB will terminate or take resignation from Gillespie soon.. Aqib will soon be all formats head coach..Afterall , the fiasco with Gary Kirsten was created to accomodate Aqib and soon, same will happen with Gillespie too, as Geo news has already reported that PCB is considering to remove Gillespie as well

What I think they may let Gillespie coach SA red ball series..as they want Gillespie to be escapegoat for SA redball tour and Aqib will come and enjoy with WI home series.. Just like they made Gillespie for Aus tour and Aqin will be there from Zim series. How convenient :) The only miscalculation they made was Pak actually convincingly defeated Aus ODI series

There were also some reports that they offered Gillespie the full head coach role as well, am not sure if that is part of the ruse as well :yk2 or if Gillespie genuinely didn’t want it

And the circus continues, as per reports. Aaqib Javed is set to replace Jason Gillespie as not only the white-ball coach but also the red-ball coach.

Well he will have to contend with whatever selectors provide him with!

I would rather he stayed on as Selector and chose the right squad.

By the way, PCB's fig leaf of decency falling off with yet another mismanaged appointment

Mickey, Kirsten and now Gillespie

You can not forget any foreign coach for a very long time

No words to describe this clownish board. Where are the Naqvi defenders ?

Even in the Ijaz Butt era of comical ineptitude, we never had such a churn in head coaches.

It was a real coup for Pakistan to hire Gillespie and Kirsten, but looks like neither will make even the end of the year. No reputable coach will want to touch this setup with a tenfoot bargepole now.

At least exercise a little bit of diplomacy & allow them to work for a decent enough period before deciding to change direction, it’s terrible PR and no top foreign coach will want to set foot in Pakistan after this.

Honestly, Misbah is partly to blame for this, he set the trend for these political manoeuvres without consequence. In the same way he removed Arthur, Gillespie is getting done over in a similar manner.

Anyway, I hope Aqib is as proactive with the T20 team as he was with the Tests.

But I am not in favour of giving all power to one man and that’s Misbah’s fault.

What was that yesterday?

He approved this squad. He’s approved this batting order

If he removes the influence of Saya group and gives Rizwan the shovel I will forgive, but it seems like he’s under the spell of the Molana

He’s got to keep it cool with all agencies so his own Qalandars boys can get their fair share too.

They all scratch each other’s backs bro

This will be a disastrous decision. Gillespie unlike Kirsten made the adjustments and compromises for his role and has carried on. He was the coach who saw the 2-1 victory at home against England and the 2-1 win over Australia in Australia. No foreign coach will ever work for Pakistan Cricket after this.

Thank god

Its been two weeks since PCB had done something stupid. Convincing many of us that they have fixed themselves

The Naqvi led bandwagon neve fails to disappoint

Both Gillespie and Kirsten are fools to give PCB a chance any level headed person knew the integrity and professionalism of these clowns anyways we have to accept from now on it’s Aqib’s and Saqlain’s who will be coaching Pakistan as no decent foreign coach will want to be near this clown show

It was on the cards Kirsten not making any compromises and breaching contracts were lies being fed by the payroll journos , Gillispie was always going to be the next victim for Aqib to complete his coup

Is this Gora a goody goody then & naughty PCB on this occasion 🤔

"PCB logic: If you fix our mess even once, you're now responsible for the whole house forever. Poor Aqib—he helped Pakistan bounce back with those magical turning pitches to beat England 2-1, and now they’re like, ‘Congrats! You’re the new head coach, pitch curator, team psychologist, and oh, here’s a bat too—go open the innings!’

Aqib will probably regret at some stage for not letting the team lose that series. Would’ve saved him from becoming PCB’s ultimate handyman!"

He needs to bide his time and take out the trash, by being given such a prominent role, he has become a target and if he is not careful; Rizwan & co will get him. He will quickly need to learn that for him to have prolonged success, he needs to do without certain individuals, do you think he is aware of that?

No idea bro. I’m sure he knows by now that the two laanats are untouchable in white ball cricket as the PCB is far more flexible for Tests. They don’t take Test as seriously as they do T20 for crying out loud. You can rest guys in Test but you may be inviting civil war if you think about dropping Rizwan or Babar from the white ball squads, especially T20.

I personally think Aqib will be the same as those before him, just fall servant to these two guys.

Here it comes, But not beyond South Africa?

If we see clearly.. PCB in its statement has said..that Gillespie will continue to coach Pakistan red ball side for two red ball matches against South Africa.. PCB hasnt said that he will continue to coach red ball coach side, as per his contract… His contract is for two years.. PCB could have simply said that he will continue to coach red ball side..but PCB has specifically mentioned two red ball matches…

I think its what I had earlier assessed.. PCB wants Gillespie to be the escapegoat for SA red ball series..and then they will fire him, and Aqib will conveniently become all format head coach from home series against West Indies :) Just like they made Gillespie…interim head coach for Aus tour and darling Aqib will take over from Zimbabwe tour.. :) How sweet and convenient

I don’t think these tossers have it in them, but I hope Gillespie does well in South Africa. It’s clear they want to get rid of him after a tough series which Pakistan would not be favourite for, then Aqib would get the straight forward affair of handling the West Indies at home. They’ve already crippled Gillespie’s role as match day strategist, but it seems they were not expecting him to triumph during the Australian ODI series which was going to be another way to out him, thankfully the T20I series failure can be pinned entirely on him when they do eventually get around to giving him the sack. Bunch of amateur parasites, the parasite cricket board that’s what the PCB are.

Yes..now atleast for Gillespie’s sake.. I hope our team does well in SA and wins atleast one match…though I am not too hopeful… now that PCB has decided toget rid of him, I want them to remove him shamelessly, making it abundantly clear that they are removing him just to accomodate Aqib.. Gillespie and even Kirsten had nothing wrong to deserve their current treatment by PCB.. its just shameful politics by PCB.. I want Gillespie to end his term on a high..

I don't think any self-respecting foreign coach would consider coaching Pakistan for a very long time.

Seems Gillespie's biggest mistake was being too nice. He was willing to stay on and make it work even after they took away his selection powers. In retrospect, maybe he should have told PCB to take a hike and quit too like Kirsten did. He still can.

I think the main issue with foreign coaches is they don't spend enough time in Pakistan to get deeply involved in the day to day.

We need to understand the limitations of the country, in its current state its not livable for a SENA person. If they can find someone local who is a good people person and is sharp then its a no brainer.

What day to day would you like the national coach to be involved in?

So as per cricinfo, PCB offered Gillespie, white ball coach role but with the condition that no more increase in pay scale..but he has to take on 2 more formats coaching, with the same contract and PCB will not pay a single penny for additional responsibilities… how shameless can PCB be? Why will he agree to coach 2 additional formats for free, with considerable more workload? Its nothing but a bullying tactic by PCB to force him to resign to clear the way for Aqib… will Aqib coach for free? And they would have fired Gillespie straight away..but they mentioned in its statement..that Gillespie will coach for 2 redball matches in SA.. they surely want to make Gillespie scapegoat for SA red ball, so that Aqib can have free ride for home series against WI..

I’m not sure why Aqib would want the HC job. I can see him wanting more of a director cricket or a more powerful position. Right now the HC has been stripped of their selection powers, will Aqib also accept that? Plus you have Wahab sniffing around pcb headquarters every week doing god knows what.

such a bs is this PCB.. Initially it looked like Mohsin comes in to bring changes but this idiot is constantly hiring and removing people after every series, no matter they win or lose..... one kinda toxic DH this chairman who expects every one to just shake their head for whatever he does.... He is simply worth nothing..

Aqib dont want to be in hard assignments like SA test
yes these PAK coaches flex their muscles at home and the last time they won a SENA test series is under Misbah in NZL..

  1. Australia yet to win
  2. SA yet to win
  3. England cant even remb probably in the 80s or 90s surely not after 2000
  4. NZL under Misbah (with a captains knock in every inns that he played)

Hoepfully the appointment of Aqib Javed marks the beginning of a new era. He is undoubtedly one of the most qualified and experienced local coaches. After leading the U19 team to a World Cup victory in 2004, I believed he was destined to become the head coach of the national team. However, his ugly fallout and unsuccessful stint with the national team as a bowling coach, though I can’t recall exactly when, seemed like it might prematurely end his coaching career with Pakistan national team

I don't think his appointment is simply because of the role he played regarding the pitch and selection, but also his extensive experience within coaching circles. Given his background, it’s no surprise he’s going to be asked to be coach. It's long overdue. We should invest developing local coaches. Look at India how well they are doing with their local coaches.

What will be particularly interesting is how he handles Babar Azam. Let’s not forget Aqib’s controversial comment suggesting that his team intentionally wouldn’t dismiss Babar in T20s due to his playing style.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) today announced the appointment of Aqib Javed, a former international fast bowler, as the interim head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team until the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

During this tenure, Aqib will continue to serve as a senior member of the men’s National Selection Committee, and will be assigned additional responsibilities following the conclusion of the eight-team tournament.

Meanwhile, the PCB will initiate the recruitment process for a permanent white-ball head coach, aiming to complete the appointment by the end of the ICC Champions Trophy scheduled from 19 February to 9 March.

The white-ball coaching role had become vacant following the resignation of Gary Kirsten. Red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie had coached the side during the recent tour of Australia, who will now rejoin the side for the upcoming two-Test series in South Africa.

The Pakistan men’s side is scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is in Zimbabwe (24 November – 5 December) and as many white-ball matches in South Africa (10-22 December). In the lead up to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan will host New Zealand and South Africa for an ODI triangular series from 8-14 February.

It’s about time we stick with LOCAL coaches. That’s the right strategy going forward as our players don’t understand English.

However Aqib is not the right guy, considering he stuffed our white ball teams with :

Rizwan
Farhan
Haseebullah
Irfan
Salman Agha

Truly woeful lineup.

I was joking about Aqib becoming the coach with friends, after the media started stroking his ego when Pakistan beat England in the Tests.

It shows their total lack of know-how.

Oh well here we go again.

Bro, Irfan is the only player who looked like know how to play short ball next to Babar. I would say he is the only find from this series though he hasn’t scored that many runs, electrifying in the field, he is also very calm and focussed on the game unlike some stupid arrogant players who flex their muscles and feels like Lara or wasim Akram after 1 or 2 good performance.

He is a good student of the game. He has a bright future only that is possible if he gets enough chances

Usman khan needs to go back to UAE or polish his batting skills in FC. He is another awful guy like Asif ali.

I would continue to play Ifthikar Ahmed if the replacement is U.khan

What if they lose the Zimbabwe series then who will they next appoint

With Haris Rauf in form I expect Pakistan to win easily but still anything is possible with his minnow side.

And 1 more thing Wasim jnr is forgotten and Aaqib selects his LQ bowler Daniyal as allrounder for one fluke inns in domestic champions cup lol 😂😂

I honestly want to know how Salman has been made the VC.

You lot think pak is minnow but wont ever realise how pak won the series vs england you think it was easy beating that bazzball it was aqib planning and his mastermind which he insisted pak to prepare turning tracks and win the series it was not a joke it played on ego of pak batsmen who never wanted spin pitches like ramiz raja said babar wanted flat tracks give credit to aqib where its due and he won you guys odi series vs aus aswell

Dosti Yaari

He’s part of the group since 2023, buddies with Babar and Shadab.
Could be but still doesn't make any sense in appointing him when has hasn't even made his debut in t20s even if we ignore him being a rubbish t20 bat.

They didn’t want to make Rizwan captain…they had the issue of ‘no one but Rizwan is the only available choice’. They tried to push Agha as a potential candidate having messed up with Shaheen.

IMO, they should have just let Kirsten do what he was doing. The guy clearly had a plan with Muhammad Harris.

I wonder what Gillespie thinks of this left handed assurance of continuation.

In any organisation, imagine that your boss publicly announces that you’re only good for the next one or two months, despite having given you a 2 year contract.

I can assure you this much; in my world I’d start looking for a new job that second. At the expense of my current job if needed.

Loyalty is a two way street and the bosses can take a hike.

I still don’t think Aqib wants the permanent HC job but he doesn’t suffer fools. He will speak his mind and throw whoever he needs to under the bus.

It's a cesspool which you've have joined Mr Aqib ,but good thing is you have an appreciation thread God Bless you!

I wouldn't have been against Mohammad Harris had he not been so brainless. He clearly has the talent and ability but lacks a brain. His batting isn't improving because of his lack to game time in FC cricket.

What is Azhar Mahmood's job now apart from being a translator with two pacers as head coaches of Pak team.
Aqib is not the messiah people think him to be on basis of 2 LQ title victories.
I had hope with Gillespie helping out our pacers but when non cricketing people are hired to govern cricketers, chaos will unfold. It's basically a microcosm of our society with inept people heading every organization in every sector whether public or private. The circus at PCB is only visible due to the media coverage it receives.

so the "action changer" and one of the most hated coaches in recent history by fans is now the Head Coach of the ODI sides...

I don't think even JRR Tolkien has the imagination to be able to right this stuff.

Can't PCB find a "Retired General" and make him a Head coach?

That way, at least we will have a Head Coach for a long time!

He recently said something against Imran Khan and being rewarded for that . Same IK who picked him from the streets of Sheikhupura and made him a test bowler.
