Naqvi’s big throw of the dice

150 cricketers…Mission: replace 4/5 players

Let's see what type of talent can be unearthed from this cup. Naqvi Sahib has bragged too much about this, computer data, etc, etc.

Hoping to see some marvelous pool of talent from this tournament.

He’s got a big recovery job on his hands considering a lot of good players left Pakistan because of Imran Khan’s rubbish decisions in 2019.

I hope we see recovery because so far it has been a downhill journey of this team under Naqvi's tenure.

None. We will see the usual guys and they will produce cricket of a low quality. The reason is the low priority given to domestic cricket and the terrible wickets

who did he sack that cant be corrected ? Don Bradman? Viv Richards? Sachin Tendulkar? Ricky Ponting?

USA are a stronger team than Pakistan, and they have 3-4 ex domestic Pakistan pros. Whose to blame for this?

Difficult question for you

Stronger after winning one game? Thus shows perfectly why your understanding is so limited.

They have a well rounded T20 side with the correct type of batters for this format. You will find it difficult to understand this, it’s not the 1970s anymore (where you are stuck in I’m afraid)

But they aren't better than us. You are confusing weather and climate. Work it out

They are not.Based on your logic a better Super over by Amir would mean we are better than them. Weather and climate
They are better. They will get even better when the players who have migrated from Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka have done their 3 years transition period too. More will leave and join the United States of America.

Pakistan is currently rubbish. They will remain rubbish for some time

No. They aren't better. They will win the odd T20 game because they have no pressure on them and any win is a bonus.

They are 100% better

They have 2/3 proper seamers (Natravalker and Zia ul Haq) that know how to bowl in the powerplay and take wickets. They have a proper Death bowler in Ali Khan. They have better spinners than Pakistan’s current rubbish (Shadab and Iftikhar). Hassan Khan is developing perfectly in their set up and will become a better T20 all rounder than Imad Wasim.

Their best batsmen right now (Aaron Johnson) is 100% better than Pakistan’s best batsman (Babar Azam). Their captain (Monank Patel) is 200% a better captain than Babar Azam, and is a very handy batsman as well. Their lower order hitter (Corey Anderson) is a legit hitter unlike Iftikhar Ahmed and Shahdab Khan (hahahahahaha).

No, they are 200% better after one win.

What if the trio/Quatro which supposed to be replaced still perform better than all other players? (Likely be the case as well as they are far much better than domestic crap we have) then whose going to replace them?

This is most probably the case that we are gonna witness soon. Waiting for squads and their mentors first.

No, they are 200% better after one win.
USA is 100% better then Pakistan on t20 atm.

You're badly overrating your own team just like how you overrated Babar azam, Screamed at me for wanting to drop Babar, only to suggest dropping him yourself haha.

Pakistan spin unit is dead, our aged and crapola finisher in chacha is much much worse as a batsmen then even their aged Corey Anderson.

Jones is superior to our entire team as a t20 batter and netravlkar is > the entire pace bowling unit no question.

T20 is Pakistan's weakest format, Followed by test, and odi is only surviving on the back of fakhar who is 34 and will start declining eventually and become even more inconsistent then he already is.

In T20s USA definitely does have better batting lineup than Pak , they have more modern players who can hit hard while still holding their wickets. bowling wise Pak is much much better. So 8/10 times Pak will win against USA.

Mohsin Naqvi is trying to milk from a sick cow. You need to treat the illness to get good results.
Every chairman comes with a new unique innovative idea to dismantle pak cricket.

Our batters quality in domestic cricket is so down and outdated that on these type of road pitches, we are still managing to produce good fast bowlers who get exposed in international cricket.

-Reports are Shaheen will be captain of Waqar Younis’s side

-Babar refused to be captain of Malik’s side (stallions)

This probably means Rizwan will be captain of a side, most likely Misbah’s

*whats the point of this champion’s cup nonsense if you are still trying to empower the same cr@p leaders/strategists who brought you down to your worst in the first place?

How are the PCB looking for a replacement of the guys they have identified as rubbish? By making them captains??

Fancy team names doesnt change anything.
The names were inspired by Faysal Bank T20. That's why they also tried to get mentors from that region. Some are from there like Sarfraz mentor of Dolphins. That team will mostly have players from Karachi and Sindh

Babar will probably accept captaincy if he had to represent Saqlain’s side

A soft mentor who Babar can pushover

So who are the 4/5 players who Naqvi is being pressured to axe but can’t do so at the moment because according to his understanding, they don’t have any player or backup in the domestics?

I think his last presser was like a person blurting out everything he knew in a police interrogation

He wasn’t in control to conceal anything this time. They really were not expecting to lose this Test.

They weren't expecting to lose to USA either, or draw the t20 series against C team NZ or lose to Ireland or play so horrifically in 2023 wc.

Shoaib Malik to mentor Stallions in Champions Cup

• I am thrilled to be appointed as a mentor for the Stallions, a team with which I have shared many memorable moments as a player and captain, says the two-time ICC Event winner

• While there will be fierce battles for supremacy on the field, there will also be intense rivalries among the mentors as we strive to outmaneuver each other, bringing an extra layer of excitement to every match – Shoaib Malik

• Stallions will open their campaign on 13 September against Lions; their other matches will be against Wolves (15 Sep), Dolphins (19 Sep) and Panthers (21 Sep)

• Country’s 150 best of the best cricketers will be in action in this newly-launched tournament, which will be played in Faisalabad from 12-29 September

Lahore, 29 August 2024:

Former Pakistan captain and two-time ICC Event winner Shoaib Malik will mentor the Stallions in next month’s Champions One-Day Cup, which will be played at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad from 12-29 September.

Shoaib Malik was one of the five champion mentors unveiled by the Pakistan Cricket Board earlier this week. Misbah-ul-Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Waqar Younis are the other four mentors, who will reveal their side names and logos in PCB-arranged media conferences as part of promotion and publicity as well as creating Champions Cup brand awareness.

The Champions One-Day Cup will feature country’s 150 best of the best cricketers. This will be a 50-over tournament that will be played on a single-league format. All but 16 September match between Lions and Panthers, which will start at 9.30am, will commence at 3pm. There will be three playoffs in four days with the final on Sunday, 29 September.

Shoaib Malik’s Stallions will take on Lions on 13 September, followed by matches against Wolves (15 September), Dolphins (19 September) and Panthers (21 September).

Shoaib Malik (played in the 2007 and 2019 50-over World Cups, featured in six T20 World Cups, including captaining the side in the 2007 event, and, six Champions Trophy tournaments; is 33rd on the list of ODI players with 1,000 runs, 50 wickets and 50 catches; holds the record for one of the longest international careers, spanning nearly 20 years; to date has appeared in 35 Tests, 287 ODIs and 124 T20Is in which he has scored 11,867 runs and taken 218 wickets; is considered as one of the most sought after cricketers in franchise cricket)

“I am thrilled to be appointed as a mentor for the Stallions, a team with which I have shared many memorable moments as a player and captain. Now, to return in the role of a mentor, is an incredible opportunity. I am confident that I can still contribute significantly to the Stallion brand by sharing my experience and passion for the game.

“As a mentor, my role goes beyond just providing guidance from the dugout. I will also take to the field in select matches to impart my firsthand knowledge and experience. This will enable our upcoming cricketers to refine their skills and elevate their game, ultimately supporting the Pakistan Cricket Board's efforts to bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket.

“I am a strong advocate of the Champions Cup format, which unites the best talents from our domestic cricket in a highly competitive, high-pressure environment. While there will be fierce battles for supremacy on the field, there will also be intense rivalries among the mentors as we strive to outmaneuver each other, bringing an extra layer of excitement to every match.

“In cricket, as in any field, the learning process never truly ends, but it can certainly be accelerated. With this in mind, I am optimistic that the Champions Cup, guided by our experienced mentors, skilled coaching staff, and live broadcasts, will significantly strengthen our domestic cricket structure. This, in turn, will cultivate more skilled and talented players, ready to take on the global stage.

“Of course, such progress won't happen overnight, but with patience and persistence, we can achieve our shared goals. I eagerly anticipate the support of our dedicated Stallion fans and the media throughout the Champions Cup. Together, we can develop new champions who will bring glory not just to the team, but to our region and our country.”

Schedule of Stallion’s matches (all their matches are at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad, and will start at 3pm):

13 Sep – Stallions v Lions

15 Sep – Wolves v Stallions

19 Sep – Stallions v Dolphins

21 Sep – Panthers v Stallions

Apparently if you win a game then you become better team, not the better team on the day. This is the level of understanding of these clowns.

This is a team that got a 10 wicket thurbbing by Bangladesh. Lost to Ireland on a school boy pitch, tied against C team NZ etc etc.

Their not a high level team

The difference is understanding. Babar needs to get his focus back, he remains our most talented bat and without him being back on form, we will lose more and more.

Mentor concept is such drama in these types of leagues.

Most of the players have probably played alongside the mentors at some point.

I understand if it's Viv Richards or something.

Yeah it’s at boiling point now. Naqvi in his mind is doing whatever he can by giving them all the best resources in terms of coaching and player satisfaction with contracts….they ain’t giving him what he wants as a return. He’s losing his sanity

He’s really struggling to come to terms with the fact that this isn’t the 1970s anymore

Absolutely love this tournament idea. Mohsin Naqvi has done a great job announcing this tournament. A lot is expected from this mentors and they should be able to deliver it.

Misbah should be able to make the best team. Still whatever team it maybe. A great opportunity for young talent and some old to showcase their talent. It should be enough to book a spot in the coming Test Series and Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

Make this an event and allow one well known Foreign player and and one U21 player in the playing XI.

If same old guys have to play this tournament and be Captain of thier captain then it kills the real intention behind this event. Pcb should be looking at youngsters to lead thier sides with 1 2 seniors to guide them. No need to make sarfaraz, rizwan or babar the captain here.

As per reports:

The captaincy for the upcoming Champions Cup is up for grabs, with Shaheen Afridi, Shadab Khan, and Saud Shakeel emerging as strong contenders, according to a media report. Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing regarding the inclusion of star players Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in the tournament. The team composition is expected to take shape soon, with the drafting of centrally contracted players also being considered.

Waqar Younis is expected to lead the Lions as their mentor, while Sarfaraz Ahmed will likely mentor the Dolphins, and Saqlain Mushtaq will guide the Panthers. Shoaib Malik has been chosen as the mentor for the Stallions.

Additionally, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has assigned former Test cricketer and current director Nadeem Khan with additional responsibilities as the director for the Champions Cup. There have also been discussions about the drafting of centrally contracted players for the tournament.

Misbah-ul-Haq to mentor Wolves in Champions Cup

Former Pakistan captain and all-format head coach Misbah-ul-Haq has been confirmed as mentor of the Wolves side for next month’s Champions One-Day Cup, which will be played in Faisalabad from 12-29 September. On Thursday, Shoaib Malik was named as mentor of the Stallions side, while announcements of team names for the other three mentors - Saqlain Mushtaq, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Waqar Younis – will be made in the coming days.

While Shoaib Malik’s Stallions has been allocated Sialkot Cricket Academy for training and practice during the 2024-25 domestic cricket season, Misbah’s side has been allocated Faisalabad Cricket Academy to prepare for the events during the upcoming season.

Misbah-ul-Haq’s Wolves will take on Panthers on the opening day on 12 September, followed by matches against Stallions (15 September), Dolphins (17 September) and Lions (20 September).

Misbah ul Haq (Pakistan’s most successful Test captain, who led his side to victories in 26 out of 56 Tests, including inspiring Pakistan to No.1 in the ICC Test Team Rankings in August 2016; in 2014, equaled the then world record of fastest Test century by hitting a 56-ball 100 against Australia in Abu Dhabi; featured in two 50-over World Cups, three T20 World Cups and three ICC Champions Trophy events; was a member of the side that played the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2007 and won the tournament two years later at Lord’s; one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year for 2017)

“I am excited to reunite with Wolves as a mentor and play a crucial role in shaping the future of our emerging cricketers. This role not only allows me to share my experience and knowledge to help them refine their skills but also gives me a chance to complete some unfinished business from 2019 and bring my vision to life.

“The Champions One-Day Cup is an electrifying event where the best players in the country will compete fiercely in a format where every match is crucial. This tournament promises to deliver high-quality cricket to Faisalabad fans and inspire our players to perform at their peak, while also providing a platform for the PCB to showcase and elevate this premier event.

“I believe this tournament will be pivotal in discovering the next generation of talent who can be developed to represent Pakistan on the international stage. With upcoming ODIs against Australia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, a home tri-series, and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, there is no better time to identify and nurture our future stars.”

Schedule of Wolves’ matches (all their matches are at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad, and will start at 3pm):

12 Sep – Wolves v Panthers

15 Sep – Wolves v Stallions

17 Sep – Dolphins v Wolves

20 Sep – Lions v Wolves

Misbah the corrupt returns again, all these so called mentors have signed 3 yrs contracts as if they are current players or coach. Legal corruption and still there are Misbah defenders who will one day hopefully wake up

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced that cricket fans can watch all matches of the upcoming Champions ODI Cup 2024 for free, except for the final four matches.

This decision was made during a key meeting focused on the arrangements for hosting the tournament at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad.

As per reports, Fakhar Zaman is set to depart from the ongoing CPL 2024 to participate in the upcoming Champions One-Day Cup 2024, scheduled to commence on September 12 at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad. Lets appreciate his dedication to domestic cricket of Pakistan.

During the Ramiz and mani tenure, we would have had squads released by now. But these lot are not serious with cricket. They will release the squads as late as possible so that people don’t have enough time to actually scrutinise the selection. I don’t see any other reason why you would not release squad details to public for a tournament that is less than a fortnight away.

Will Babar light up the champions cup so he gets selected for the national team? I can certainly see him clamouring to play now

PCB Hall of Famer Waqar Younis to mentor Lions

Pakistan Cricket Board’s Hall of Famer Waqar Younis has been confirmed as mentor of the Lions side for this month’s Champions One-Day Cup, which will be played in Faisalabad from 12-29 September. Additionally, the Lions have been allocated National Cricket Academy for training and practice during the 2024-25 domestic cricket season.

Last week, Shoaib Malik and Misbah-ul-Haq were named as mentors of the Stallions and Wolves, respectively. Details of the player names and player support personnel will follow later this week.

The Lions will open their campaign against Shoaib Malik’s Stallions on 13 September, followed by matches against Panthers (day match), Misbah’s Wolves on 20 September and Dolphins on 22 September.

Waqar Younis (Captained Pakistan in 17 Tests and 62 ODIs; played in three 50-over World Cups; holds the record for fastest to 400 ODI wickets; leads the list of captains with best ODI bowling figures; is one of the bowlers to dismiss all 11 batters in a Test match; was named as one of Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1992; was inducted into the ICC and PCB Hall of Fames in 2013 and 2021, respectively; coached Pakistan in the 2010 and 2016 T20 World Cups and 2011 and 2015 World Cups; last served Pakistan as bowling coach from 2019-2021)

“I am excited about the opportunity to once again contribute to player development. This new role presents a fresh challenge that I embrace with great enthusiasm. Beyond the chance to work with some of the most talented cricketers, there will be a fascinating dynamic among the mentors as each of us will strive to outmaneuver the others.

“This friendly rivalry will certainly add an extra layer of excitement and intensity to the competition.

“This unique format, where every match counts, promises to bring a new level of excitement to the game. Fans can look forward to a thrilling 14-match tournament over 17 days, filled with high-stakes action and memorable moments.

“With a series of high-profile 50-over international matches on the horizon, culminating in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the Champions One-Day Cup is an invaluable opportunity for players to showcase their skills and stake their claim for national selection. I have no doubt that this tournament will help us identify future stars who, with the right guidance and development, can serve our country for many years to come.

“As for my role, I am committed to sharing as much knowledge and insight as possible with both the coaching staff and the players. My goal is to help them grow into more effective and impactful players, ensuring a bright future for our Lions and the Pakistan cricket team.”

Schedule of the Lions’ matches (Day match will start at 9.30am, day/night matches will begin at 3pm):

13 Sep – Stallions v Lions (d/n)
16 Sep – Lions v Panthers (d)
20 Sep – Lions v Wolves (d/n)
22 Sep – Dolphins v Lions (d/n)

Panthers to be mentored by Saqlain Mushtaq

• I urge players, fans and all stakeholders to fully support this year’s Champions One-Day Cup. Together, we can ensure its success, laying a strong foundation for the bright and robust future of Pakistan cricket,” says the former champion off-spinner

• Champions One-Day Cup will be played in Faisalabad from 12-29 September; Panthers and Wolves will go toe to toe in the event opener at the Iqbal Stadium

Saqlain Mushtaq has been confirmed as Panthers’ mentor for this month’s Champions One-Day Cup, which will be played in Faisalabad from 12-29 September. The Panthers have also been allocated the Inzamam-ul-Haq Cricket Academy in Multan to prepare and train during the 2024-25 domestic cricket season.

So far, Shoaib Malik, Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis have been named as mentors of the Stallions, Wolves and Lions, respectively, while Sarfaraz Ahmed will later this week confirm his team name and logo.

The Panthers will open their campaign against Misbah-ul-Haq’s Wolves on the opening day on 12 September, followed by matches against Dolphins on 14 September, Lions on 16 September and Shoaib Malik’s Stallions on 21 September.

Saqlain Mushtaq (is considered as the inventor of ‘Doosra’; set the record for the most ODI wickets in a calendar year with 65 scalps in 1996; following year, he took 69 wickets in 36 matches to better his own record; took two consecutive 10-wicket hauls against India in the Chennai and Delhi Tests; in 1999, became the only Pakistan bowler to take a hat-trick in ODI World Cups, it was his second ODI hat-trick; became the then fastest to take 200 ODI wickets; named as one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 2000; played in three World Cups and two Champions Trophy events; has previously coached some of the top-cricket playing nations, including Pakistan, England, New Zealand, West Indies and Bangladesh)

“Preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 begin with the Champions One-Day Cup, and I am thrilled to play a key role as a mentor for the Panthers, a team featuring some of the finest talent in the country. My objective is clear: to elevate these players' performance and pushing them to their maximum potential so we can defend our title with distinction.

“The Champions One-Day Cup is more than just a competition; it’s a critical stepping stone for young talent and a cornerstone of Pakistan cricket’s future. The path to the Champions Journey starts with age-group cricket and progresses through district and division levels, ultimately reaching regional and departmental cricket, with the Champions Cup as the final proving ground before achieving national selection.

“I am confident that this well-structured, pyramid-like pathway will nurture skilled and polished players, enabling the Pakistan Cricket Board to build strong, competitive teams across all formats.

“I urge players, fans and all stakeholders to fully support this year’s Champions One-Day Cup. Together, we can ensure its success, laying a strong foundation for the bright and robust future of Pakistan cricket.”

Schedule of the Panthers’ matches (Day match will start at 9.30am, day/night matches will begin at 3pm):

12 Sep – Wolves v Panthers (d/n)
14 Sep – Dolphins v Panthers (d/n)
16 Sep – Lions v Panthers (d)
21 Sep – Panthers v Stallions (d/n)

Shadab for panthers . Saqi will want that . Rishte naate is more important
Do you see the whole point of this tournament?

The same rubbish being recycled, with the same people in leadership roles. The same guys who have manipulated Pakistan cricket to their own personal benefit getting the same privileges again. How is this going to be the tools for the ‘surgery’ as Naqvi says?

Shaheen and Shadab will misuse their power to bat in the top 6

Rizwan as usual will do what suits him first and then shift the whole team around him.

The only positive so far is Muhammad Harris as captain of Sialkot, but even this is unconfirmed with Babar in the squad

Wolves will just be SNGPL current and old boys, a mixture of Saya and ICA clients

Rizwan as usual will do what suits him first and then shift the whole team around him.

The only positive so far is Muhammad Harris as captain of Sialkot, but even this is unconfirmed with Babar in the squad
Yep . It’s the same old rubbish . Lord Rizwan will be captain , chacha will be the savior of wolves . Legend misbah will behave as world beater .

Do you see the whole point of this tournament?

Exactly. They should give 5 young guys the captaincy.

Misbah will be the mentor of (Faisalabad) Wolves and Rizwan to be his likely captain.

You couldn’t write a better script @mominsaigol
@Major Hope you'll be watching. This is a dream team for you at the end of the day. It's a shame the side is called faisalabad wolves and not Pindi Mavericks.

The same 20 odd players who are part of the national team will perform again and the new bunch of players will fail as usual , what to gain from this tournament?

They need to pay well to youth cricketers, 30 players from each U13 , U16 and U19 should have a monthly stipend of 1 lac , 1.5 lac and 2 lac along side match fees and prize money , it will sky rocket youth interest as well as parents interest in cricket plus players will keep improving their game every year in order to retain their contracts.

If PCB can pay 5 million to mentors then surely this is even less than 15m in total, atleast it will improve our youth interest and subsequent development in cricket.
