Peter Siddle retires from Test cricket [Update Post #88]

:)) So glad Aussies have played Starc the phaast bowler instead of Siddle. May you continue to keep picking the legend Starc.
 
I'd rather have Siddle instead of Starc...neither take wickets but at least Siddle keeps the runs down and doesn't look like a wusso.

It's weird with Starc. Just melts under test pressure.

Should get the black mark next to his name
 
He was always going to play some part in this series due to his experience of playing in England.
 
The long accurate spells he bowls allow Australia to play only four frontline bowlers. I always rated Sid.

The guy started his career and was very pacy, hit the deck from 2008 to 2012 operating at 140-148 km/hr but for some odd reason drastically lost pace and effectiveness after that
 
Cricket Australia thanks Peter Siddle upon international retirement


Cricket Australia has congratulated Peter Siddle on an outstanding Australian career after the veteran fast bowler announced on Sunday he was retiring from international cricket, effective immediately.

Siddle, 35, took 221 wickets from 67 Test matches including eight five-wicket hauls. He is the 13th highest Test wicket-taker among all Australian bowlers and will be forever remembered for the hat-trick he claimed on his birthday against England at the ‘Gabba in 2010.

Justin Langer, the Australian Men’s Team Head Coach, described Siddle as a true team man.

“The year after I retired from playing, Matty Hayden and Ricky Ponting were raving about this guy called Peter Siddle,” Langer said.

“If it came from them, you knew it was right and so it proved throughout his brilliant international career.

“He is an unbelievable bloke and an extremely good cricketer. He is the everything of what a team player is. He has given his heart and soul to the Australian team and the game of cricket.

“We’ll always be thankful to him for what he’s given to the national team, and for the critical role he played in helping us retain the Ashes in England this year. He’s going out when he’s still playing well which, in a perfect world, is something every athlete wants to do.”

Tim Paine, the Australian Men’s Team Captain, thanked Siddle for his exemplary service to Australian and international cricket.

“Sids has been the heart and soul of the team for a long time,” Paine said.

“I remember coming up through with him through the academies and even back then he was one of the great team men, something he has continued to this day.

“He has a massive heart and is a fantastic bowler. He’ll be very much missed around the group. He’s been unbelievably good for our younger fast bowlers over the last 18 months and been a great support for me during that time, as well.

“It’s sad to see him leave international cricket, but the time is right for him. He’s had a wonderful career, he’s achieved a lot and I know he’s still got plenty to offer in domestic cricket.”

Kevin Roberts, Cricket Australia’s Chief Executive, praised Siddle for playing a crucial role in defining the team culture in recent seasons.

“On behalf of everyone in the Australian cricket family, I would like to thank Peter for his extraordinary service to the national team,” Roberts said.

“Peter’s contribution extends well beyond what you see on the field. He is a wonderful team player who has been a pivotal figure in the resurgence of the national team.

“His 221 Test wickets are a huge accomplishment and matched by the impact he has made on the culture of the team. He is a terrific competitor, a humble person and exemplifies the values of Australian cricket.”

In addition to his 67 Tests, Siddle also represented Australia in 20 One-Day Internationals and two Twenty20 Internationals.

He will continue to play cricket at domestic level, including for the Adelaide Strikers in this year’s KFC BBL and for Victoria in the Marsh Sheffield Shield.

I remember him crossing 150+ at his peak. Australia in the last few years had the most number of bowlers crossing that mark - Johnson, Starc,Ryan Harris, Siddle, NCN, pattinson, Cummins , stanlake and probably jhye as well.
 
Former Test quick Peter Siddle has signed a two-year contract with the Tasmanian Tigers.

The 35-year-old, who retired from international cricket in December after playing 67 Tests and taking 221 wickets, will make the late-career move from Victoria to the Apple Isle for the 2020/21 season.

Siddle won two Sheffield Shield titles with his home state and played 62 matches after debuting in 2005.

His experience will help the Tigers fill the void of George Bailey, who retired to join the national selection panel earlier this year.

Siddle is coming off a strong Sheffield Shield season where he finished fourth on the overall wicket list with 32 scalps at an average of 19.87.

Meanwhile, injury plagued allrounder James Faulkner, who last played first-class cricket for Tasmania in 2017 and was man-of-the-match in the 2015 World Cup final, has been left off the Tigers’ contract list.

Alex Bevilaqua, Gurinder Sandhu, Sean Willis and Simon Milenko have also been left without a state contract.

Sids at 41, still ahs a really cool gf, and add to that he wa sone of the best pacers in BBL this year, and now bowling superbly too away in subcontinent conditions too 1/26 today on a flattie, realy show bro aged like a fine wine

Mate Rauf, and Afridi were getting tonked, that too in conditions where they should be more successful, Rauf atleast still ahd some decent performances and wickets, but even he failed to defend at the death in some matches, Sids even at 41 has 140k + pace and had an economy of 7 hich was pretty much betetr than everyone and even today when Ubaid, Shanen, Rauf all got 10RpO-12 RPO+ bro gave only 26 runs in his 3 overs while team conceded 185 in just 13

Better average and better RPO in this psl.

yeah shaheen, has better performances, but I was talking abbout how sids is hitting 140k+, still at 41, and how afridi, and so many other pak fast bowlers have lost their pace,also in the recent BBL
Afridi 4 Matches, 2 wkts at 11.16 RPO at an avg of 76.50, Rauf 11 20 wkts at 8.23 RPO, at an avg of 16.75, and Sids in the same tournament, 16 wkts in 11 matches at 7.12 RPO, at an avg of 17, this guy at 41 is bowling better than many of PAK's premium considered pacers
 
So PSL sides are making a plan against this old guy and will play him carefully while trying to smash local trundlers... What a pity this is.
 
he's vastly improved in t20 - past 2 yrs ive notcied his economy is amazing - generally always takes 1 wicket and doesnt even get smashed in the death - havent seem him go for more than 12 in any overs (past 2 yrs)

him and zampa are bowling great

That doesn't automatically mean he will be a great coach. It is Siddle who has impeccable control. Making him coach doesn't automatically means that impeccable control will magically transfer to other bowlers under him.

He's someone who didn't have all that. He worked extremely hard to achieve it and slowly added new weaponry to his armor. He has a good game iq as well. Learned to perform different roles, workhorse, enforcer, partnership breaker etc. Even went out to regain some lost pace successfully. Warne rated his intelligence quite highly.
Has essentials of what a good bowling coach needs. Obviously doesn't mean he won't need to put in any effort to succeed in his role. But he's already been coaching in Australia.

He always had pretty good economy rate for a pacer in t20s, it's just that he barely played any from 2010-2016.

How many games has shaheen played in BBL conditions compared to Siddle ?.Siddle hasn't been that great in this psl even thou he's supposed to be their impact player.Hes even getting out performed by even Ubaid Shah lol.
