So that's including Bangladesh as the most recent entry, no Ireland. One player from each nation and one extra from your own land, e.g.

Hobbs (ENG)
Gavaskar (IND)
Bradman (AUS)
Hammond (ENG)
Sobers (WI)
Flower (ZIM) (wk)
Imran (PAK) (Capt.)
Shakib (BAN)
Hadlee (NZ)
Steyn (RSA)
Murali (SL)

I understand your concept. I'll take 2 players form AUS, because they are the greatest Test side over all.

So, Walter Hammond misses out to Warne, though that makes one more bowler too many, therefore may be, Greme Pollock or Kallis or BA Richards for Styen (I'll go for Kallis), or Sanga for Murali (I won't pick), but apart from that, rest are spot on.

Havent even played a Test yet and already getting excluded from stats and lists :(( :))

Gavaskar
Boycott
Ponting
Sachin
Kallis
Flower
Shakib
Imran
Hadlee
Marshall
Murali

Imran(Captain)
Hadlee
Steyn
Murali

So, its basically Tendulkar in place of Hammond and others are same for me.

Can swap Steyn with Marshall and Sobers with Kallis. Kallis plays exceptionally great supporting roles with both bat and ball when others are also getting runs which is expected in ATG or such a great side.

Gavaskar
Hutton
Bradman
Kallis
Flower (wk)
Shakib
Imran
Hadlee
Wasim
Marshall
Murali

Gavaskar
Hobbs
Sangakara(wk)
Sachin

Imran khan(capt)
Hadlee

Heath streak
Warne

Another team can be (with 2 BD players)

Hobbs, Tamim
Bradman, Tendulkar, Kallis, Andy+
Imran*, Shakib,
Hadlee, Marshall, Murali

But, I'll stick to 2 Aussie players, & drop Shakib for Sobers & Marshall for Warne. That makes better balance of the XI.

This team will do well in almost all conditions.

1. Sunil Gavaskar (IND)
2. Jack Hobbs (ENG)
3. Don Bradman (AUS)
4. Gary Sobers (WI)
5. Jacques Kallis (SA)
6. Andy Flower (ZI)
7. Shakib al Hasan (BD)
8. Imran Khan (PK)
9. Wasim Akram (PK)
10. Richard Hadlee (NZ)
11. Muttiah Muralitharan (SL)

Five batsmen - Two solid openers, great middle order
Wkt keeper batsman
Allrounder
Four great bowlers

Creating a balanced team with all 10 teams is a tricky exercise.

I'll pick players I've watched or followed and researched on enough to know their game (so post 1980 at the least)

Hutton/Cook
Graeme Smith
Ricky Ponting
Sachin tendulkar
Sangakarra
Andy Flower wk
Garry Sobers
Shakib al Hasan
Imran
Richard Hadlee
Wasim

Overall for some reason not very happy with this team

There should be just one from Zim and Ban

Murali for Sanga will balance your team out more

Ideally WI and Australia should be allowed 2 each because of their domination.

Anyhow

Sehwag
Cook
M Crowe
Sangakara
Kallis
Shakib
Andy flower wk
Bishan bedi
Wasim
Marshal
Mcgrath

A lot of teams in trouble because they have a really sub standard glovesman.

Do not rate those English 'legends' from 30s-60s at all. So no Hobbs, Hammond or other mediocrities hyped to the moon by Cardus and his ilk.

Gavaskar
Sehwag
Bradman (I pick him purely for being a statistical anomaly in his era)
Sachin
Pietersen
Kallis
Andy Flower
I Khan
Hadlee
McGrath
Murali

No Bangladeshi accommodated because they simply do not have the depth in terms of test history yet.

Three Indians. Disqualified!

I've got three passports, and I'm eligible to play for six countries, so which one gets my second vote?

Gavaskar (India)
Barry Richards (SA)
Don Bradman (Aus)
Andrew Flower (Zim, wk)
Douglas Jardine (Eng, captain)
Kumar Sangakkara (SL)
Shakib (Bangladesh)
Richard Hadlee (NZ)
Malcolm Marshall (WI)
Wasim Akram (Pak)
Jim Laker (Eng)

Hold on, I've only got three quicks.

I'll dump Jardine - who I only picked to get up the noses of the Aussies - and I'll replace him with Botham.

He can bat, he can bowl, and he can wind up the convicts.

ATG team is supposed to face whom? Another ATG team or a national side? If it is another ATG team, secondary skills of allrounders will be ineffective. Cant see allrounder bowlers averaging 33-35 and batsmen avging in the 30s as being really useful. Batting allrounders especially are very ineffective options as additional batting resources.

Interesting thread.
My shorlist would be
Aus - Bradman , Warne , Mcgrath
Eng - Hobbs , laker , Botham
Ind - Gavaskar , Tendulkar
Pak - Imran Akram
NZ - Hadlee
WI - Richards , Sobers , Marshall
SL - Mralitharan , Sangakkarra
Zim - Flower
BD - Shakib
SA - Steyn , Pollock

1. Gavaskar (Ind)
2. Hobbs (Eng)
3. Bradman (Aus)
4. Tendulkar (Ind)
5. Sobers (WI)
6. Andy Flower (Zim) (WK)
7. Shakib - (BD)
8. Hadlee (NZ)
9. Akram (Pak)
10. Steyn (SA)
11. Muralitharan (SL)
