Sialkot Stallions have formed a strong squad in the HBL PSL auction. Head coach Tim Paine said the team has tried to bring an Australian cricketing flavor into the setup.
Sialkot Stallions selected a 16-member squad comprising national and international players during the HBL PSL auction. The franchise directly signed Australian star Steve Smith for Rs140 million. The team retained Mohammad Nawaz for Rs61.6 million, Salman Mirza for Rs39.4 million, Ahmad Daniyal for Rs22.4 million and Saad Masood for Rs8.4 million.
In the auction, Sialkot Stallions bought Sahibzada Farhan for Rs61.6 million, while Ashton Turner was signed for Rs42 million, Peter Siddle for Rs25 million and Tabraiz Shamsi for Rs22 million. Opening batter Shan Masood was picked for Rs6.5 million. Jahanzeb Sultan, Lashlan Shah and Diano Patgieter were added to the squad for Rs6 million each.
Wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe was signed for Rs23 million, batter Owais Zafar for Rs6 million and left-arm wrist spinner Momin Qamar for Rs10.75 million.
Head coach Tim Paine said that an Australian flavor has been added to the Sialkot Stallions squad and that a world-class batter like Steve Smith will prove very valuable for the team. He added that he has been following the PSL for the past six years and is excited about the league after recently starting his coaching career. He also described Sahibzada Farhan as a quality T20 batter who understands Pakistani conditions well.
Meanwhile, bowling coach Sohail Tanvir said that variations have been added to the team’s bowling attack and young fast bowlers like Ahmad Daniyal and Salman Mirza are part of the squad.
