A massive debate started on Twitter after the third umpire ruled in Australia captain Tim Paine’s favour and gave him the benefit of doubt on Day 1 of the second India vs Australia Test in Melbourne.

“There’s no conclusive evidence to show the bat is on the wrong side of the line, so the bat looks like it could have a bit over the line. My decision is not out,” said Paul Wilson while ruling Tim Paine not out.

Australia legend Shane Warne, however, did not agree with the third umpire’s decision and said ‘there was no part of his bat behind the line’.

“Very surprised that Tim Paine survived that run out review ! I had him on his bike & thought there was no part of his bat behind the line ! Should have been out in my opinion,” tweeted Warne.

That was a pathetic decision to say the least. They didn't even zoom in or use the stump cam before giving the decision.

Luckily for the 3rd umpire, Paine got out next over or else it'd have been a major talking point of the day's play.

What is worse than on field umpires making blunders? Third umpires making blunders.

On first thought it looks clearly out but when you look at the picture for a while you realise why the third ump gave it not out. There is no evidence that a tiny part of the bat was not behind the line. BoD to the batsman. Move on.

Most marginal decisions will go in favor of the home team with neutral umpires out of the game. Better we accept that sooner rather than later. I know that it's an uncomfortable situation, but this has been happening far too much recently.

Pakistan was at the wrong end of many marginal decisions on their tour to England. Home umpires will ALWAYS have a soft corner for their team. It's disgusting, but it's a fact.

Actually the above picture only shows half the story. From this side my reaction was 'Out'.

But when you see it from the other side, it felt to me that he was juuuuusssst inside.

Rahane given run out

==
Twitter was ablaze after Ajinkya Rahane was declared run out by the third umpire on Day 3 of the 2nd Test match against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Monday. It was a close call but Rahane’s bat did appear to be on the line when the replays were shown. The netizens compared Rahane’s run out with the close of Tim Paine in the Australian innings and asked why the India stand-in skipper wasn’t given the benefit of doubt like his Australian counterpart.

The incident took place in the 100th over of the Indian innings after Rahane and Jadeja – the overnight batsmen for India – negotiated the first half an hour of Day 3 without much discomfort. Jadeja pushed a ball to cover and took off, leaving Rahane short of his ground and run out at the striker’s end at 294-6.

Stand-in skipper Rahane added eight runs to his overnight score of 104 before Ravindra Jadeja on 49 made a desperate attempt to reach his half-century, in a move that cost Rahane his wicket.

Rahane was given out for 112 by the third umpire after he looked at the replays. What triggered the outage of the Indian fans on Twitter was the fact the third umpire did not ask for another angle like he had done in case of Paine in the first innings before giving ruling him not out.
