Anyone who has been to a cricket stadium in the subcontinent knows that the biggest problem over here are the huge fences that are installed as crowds in these part of the world are abit uncivilized and love to enter the playing field in huge numbers. This causes a huge security concern and there is never enough man power to control fan invasions. In return this blocks the viewing experience and often make fans look like animals trapped in a cage.

Now Gaddafi Stadium has bought in a new addition to the Stadium.

One of the biggest additions that have been made to Gaddafi Stadium for the Ct 2025 is that they have build a 10 by 8 trench between the fan stands and the boundary board. The reason for this is to not improve the viewing experience of fans in the stadium but also security purposes so that fans are not able to enter the playing field and have left a huge gap.

If this concept turns out to be a success, do you think it can change the cricket viewing experience in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and other Stadiums of Pakistan?

Remember, even the Motera Stadium also has a fence that still obstruct the view for the front end fans. This is not a criticism for any stadium, but just an appreciation of how a new idea feom Pakistan can improve things for us cricket fans.

The purpose of this thread is to discuss how the viewing experience at stadiums in subcontinent can improve as we all have to wath games from fences and cages.

This isnt a pakistan vs india thread.

I havent been to stadiums of india, so i am sure maybe they have stadiums that might have similar concepts but havnt been really highlighted.

Thing is, both set of fans have to deal with terrible viewing experience in stadiums cause of fences.

I hope Mohsin Naqvi brings this system in other stadiums in Pakistan.

We have never seen such a trench before.. PCB would have been sued if they did something like in other countries and some mishap happens.. I hope people stay safe here.

Wo to sab thik hai . But can they complete the work before the champion trophy?

Looks like a moat around a castle.
Is the moat going to be dry or filled with water?
If filled with water, what happens when the ball lands in the water? Will the same ball be used?
Who retrieves the ball? Will there be people with long scoops the fish out the ball?
If the moat is dry, will there be people down in the moat to retrieve the ball? Or ladder/steps to get down there to get the ball?

We have seen balls being retrieved from roofs and outside of stadium, but the indian fans are more concerned how a balll will be retrieved from inside the stadium

Sad that instead of appreciating efforts that also can help you in future, looking for reasons to critic a good thing.

Ofcourse ball retrievel mechanism will always be there..

Netting will be placed to cover it.

This is not new.
Many stadiums in Bharat have similar provisions. Don’t like them.

Than what is different it will make ? People easily can cross it .

To be honest, no clue.

It's what has been said about the trench upgrades. But maybe it's incorrect news or the netting will be deeper inside the trench just to catch the ball.

Are the ones in India left uncovered? It will likely be the same here.

You haven’t been to Indian stadiums but you think they have terrible viewing experience. Based on what? Pictures?

Looks ugly bro.

If we are relying on medieval strategies to improve viewing in the ground then God help us.

It’s not a bad idea, and it’s essential for security reasons. The public has been behaving recklessly lately, influenced by a certain politician who has instilled an aggressive mindset. They wouldn’t hesitate to bring shame to Pakistan and tarnish its reputation. The last thing we need is protests breaking out at the ground.

Idk how this ll work but yes the old fence did affect the view. Have been to this stadium and if u sit in lower section then the view is disturbed and if u sit on higher seats u are way away from the ground as there is a significant gap between ground and the stands. Thankfully screens are also being changed because old ones were really bad.

The new massive screens are amazing and in 4k apparently

Either pcb should let people bring food inside after checking or whatever the security concerns are or make sure good food is available inside.

No, other stadiums in the subcontinent are not this poor. IND stadiums offer great views. Don’t compare them with our stadiums!

Plus this trench is embarrassing.

Looks like kings protecting their fort from poor peasants.

Highlights the class difference and VIP culture.

Should have come up with some actually innovative idea. This is just shameful stuff.

Has many negatives too - can lead to injuries, mosquitoes, balls will be lost.

It's not bad as people are making it out to be and the fence is only 1 meter high so it won't disturb the view. Yes if you want to hate on mohsin naqvi for political reasons then that's a different story altogether

Absolutely hate it.it says forever u r bunch of uncivilised people and we don't trust u.one day i hope all our subcontinent behaves like civilised like West . I dont won't want any glaring reminders till then especially where we love/enjoy the game.

Based on watching experiences through fences. A fence obstruct the view.

100 percent it does.

If our awam was civilised like western countries then there would have been no need for these fences.

Atleast the players won't get trolled or get called parchi etc...

Wo to sab thik hai . But can they complete the work before the champion trophy?
Why are you so concerned when your team is not even visiting Pakistan? If the world can survive a clown show disorganised worldcup in India, i think Pakistan will be fine.

I disagree, subhumanity in south asia is prevalent and there is zero hope it will ever get fixed. Rather than pipe dreams, its better to have practical solutions.

@Devadwal and other Indians are eagerly waiting for Pakistan to slip up and miss the deadline, hoping it gives them a chance to shift the Champions Trophy 2025 to the UAE. Right now, they are loners while the main party is set to happen in Pakistan.

What a bunch of pathetic sad group of people, you know their revel in misery of others. Thats their only source of happiness. More than 1 billion and nothing to show for. Disgraceful.

Agreed, i think its an excellent solution. I have been hearing about the new floodlights and SMD screens too. Exciting stuff! I wish Naqvi is given a long rope, this guy will cure Pakistan cricket in each and every way!

I've seen videos of the lights and screens being put up they look amazing. Have to give it naqvi has done a good job. Stadium looks more modern probably better than most international stadiums.

Rubbish, food debris, mosquitoes...
What a Genuise idea
Ok, so you are an overseas who probably never been to a cricket match in Pakistan, and doesnt know the viewing obstruction. Plz give a better solution to have fences removed?

I dont really expect a reply, because instead of talking about solutions or options, you just want to hate Naqvi for political reasons.

National stadium karachis biggest issue has been the fence obstruction

Look at his username, its a waste of time talking logic to folks who belong to certain cults. Point them to the pathetic Arbab Niaz stadium and they will shove their heads in the sand.

What Naqvi has done to Karachi stadium is huge, it looked a cage before.
Its sad how they are trying to critisize this because their favourtie person is not at the helm of things.....

There should be no trench, there should also be no fencing.

The first row of seats should be 5 metres away from the boundary line.

I don’t care how uncivilised Pakistani’s are, a K-9 unit in front of each stand will be enough to keep the fans in check.

Might as well handcuff the fans to the seats🤦🏻‍♂️

10 policeman cant control a crowd of 5k. Crowd itself needs to be civilized.

Haven't people learned from the recent Islamabad protests and the events of May 9th how aggressive Pakistanis can become? It only takes one person to chant a political party’s slogan, and the crowd can quickly spiral out of control, and anything can happened after that.

I just came back from Landhi last month.

10 German Shepards will be enough to make sure everyone stays in the stands.

It’s about putting fear into people.

You have their ID cards, you penalise anyone that runs on to the pitch. 5000 pkr fine + ban on future matches.

These deterrents will be enough to bring a change in society.

No fencing, no trenches and no 10 metre gap from the boundary line

So you are one of thosr that go to pakistan for 2 weeks of vacation. Good to know.

German sheperds, what?

Again, an uncivilized crowd is very hard to control. Even if you have 20 police officials, if 5k crowd of one stand decides to storm the pitch no one can stop them.

Infact, i have been part of a crowd that once stormed into RawalPindi stadium when PCB decided to close its gates because it oversold its tickets and decided to not allow valid ticket holders inside because they had invited more vips.

There were 30+ policeman and few policeman on horses with lathis, the crowd didnt even care and were able to enter through the main gate of the stadium.

Entering the field is not a problem, and these 5k fines wont do much damage.

This trench experiment is going to be very interesting, and lets see if they introduce it to other groubds aswell

I nearly spilt my G&T on my keyboard. 😂

How they are going to prevent a fielder falling into the trench while taking a running catch at the boundary?

This is the trench not what you posted
I posted the picture to show a "running catch" or "saving the boundary" ...... plus we all know that there has been no matches played at a cricket ground with any trench. :)

Thanks for posting your picture. I had not seen a Gaddafi Stadium picture with the fence that will protect players from falling into the trench.

I wonder how high the fence will be. Do you know? If I have to guess from your picture, it is 4-5 feet high.

These types of fences have worked very well in India for years... I don't know how trench will work better than these fences.

Waiting for an injury to happen.
Yes, 10 feet deep trenches , dangerous , and a stupid idea . But what else you can expect when the people running the show have borderline IQ and can't think anything beyond trenches, even in a sport stadium.

Still laughing at this one. 😂

Add a 11th dog and you can make an entire cricket team out of them.

The fence is 1 metre tall, and the trench is several metres deep. If anyone tries to jump over and falls into the trench, only security can get them out. fence on its own can be jumped over

Trench obviously prevent fans running on to the fields. I am talking about player's safety.

If the fence between players and the trench is only 1 meter (3.28 ft), then a player running very hard after the ball can easily fall over the fence into the trench - as the fence is right on the edge of the trench.

I am sure, the experts must have thought about this scenario.... it is just hard for me to visualize. Plus, if this was such a great idea, how come nobody implemented it - especially in India.

I guess, we'll find out in the first match played at this stadium.

Just did some more research on this. plz google Raipur Stadium and Dharamshala stadium. It seems like they have also had trenches aswell @W63L35

I don't see anyone making such a big jump. The boundary appears to be 2-3 meters away, followed by a 1-meter-high fence.
worst case scenario someone might hit into the fence but i cant see anyone falling inside the trench

Pakistani stadiums have a very big outfield. For security reasons, the boundary advertisement boards are always far from the stands and far from the boundary rope. There is always a very huge gap. The trench will be nearer to stands thus no cricketer is going to be jumping in it...

The equivalent of Lahore is something like Mumbai, Hyderabad or Ahmedabad.

Show picture of any well designed major cricket stadium where trenches are used successfully.

No

The gap between the boundary and the fence is about 3 meters

The fence its self is 1 meter high

I can't imagine a player doing a jump which is 3 metres long and 1 meter high when saving the ball

Unless the boundary rope is very far off. There is a slim chance of a fielder falling over or smashing into the fence.
