Given the interest from Indian journalists, it seems that all the hoopla by some of our Indian friends about how unimportant this rivalry was a little bit of a lie.

they're just setting themselves up for the unexpected defeat. Classic jinx move. Pakistani fans on the other have become so desensitized to all the losing that another blow wouldn't even hurt

Very true , for me the last time a loss hurt watching Pakistan v India was back in a World Cup 1999 — in fact three losses in that tournament totally changed my outlook as a Pakistan cricket fan and desensitised me from watching Pakistan lose for life possibly - v India, v Bangladesh and the icing on the cake - final v Australia. Since then I’ve followed Pakistan cricket only for entertainment value and enjoying the cricket.

This is just unprofessional and extremely poor planning. What are they thinking? Are the ground staff just watching this puddle form?
Someone just go to the nearest camping store and buy a bunch of large waterproof tents and lay them flat over the ground. Honestly this is a joke.

And then all you're going to have is a massive puddle that's been unable to drain away and isn't warm enough to evaporate on top of the covers and a nice sodden surface underneath the covers from where the ground moisture has been drawn to the surface. There's a reason not a single ground in England has full-ground covers.

As daft as it sounds, cost would be a factor - this system would require a lot more ground staff. But what they forgot is the refunds they would have to administer in the event of abandonment. Also there's some theory that deploying a full cover would encourage sweating making pitches damper and consequently much more difficult to bat on.

As far as cost is concerned , I’m sure most
of our UK based Pakistani and Indian fans would be happy to help with covering the pitches on voluntary basis if they were permitted and if needed the fans would probably not mind even bringing in their own hairdryers to help dry the pitch quickly and guarantee a full India v Pakistan match.
Forecast suggest there is a 21% chance of rain tomorrow or something so we should get some kind of game. The current state of of the ground suggests they better start improving it's condition right now if we are gonna start on time. The grounds people may even need to work overnight for it to happen. Many parts of it look like a swimming pool. Can't think of any another match of a major rivalry called off for weather reasons. It's plain stupid if so many people are left disappointed.

I read somewhere that Old Trafford has an excellent drainage system - so IF rain goes away, that puddle will be gone by morning

Is it still raining and will it being doing so overnight? You can't take the tournament seriously if it's biggest match is effected by rain. What a joke! Imagine there being no Liverpool-Man Utd match in the EPL or an El Classico in La Liga. The game is just to reliant on good weather.

These puddles formed really quickly also.
It rained hard for about 30 minutes and these puddles formed so easily.

Full covers have been used for the Wt20 in India and for many IPL Games. There's never been any problem.
The press-conferences today were an interesting affair.
Kohli was super-cool, calm and collected. There were lots of questions regarding the opposition but he refused to be drawn-in by them. Said some nice things about Shoaib Malik, but he wouldn't talk about Pakistan's strengths or weaknesses. Instead he just wanted to focus on his own team and what they can do.
Mickey was very good too. He interracts well with the media and enjoys these interractions. He's experienced with the media and knows what to say.
The Indian media who were there in their hundreds were waiting for Sarfaraz and were going to target him, but were disappointed when Mickey showed up instead.

The sweating is more to do with plastic sheeting being used rather than the whole pitch cover concept. Because of that sheet covers are actually banned on the wicket in England (hence the use of hover/wheel on covers). Not entirely sure of the specifics that makes it ok in Asia (where sheeting covers seem more prominent), presumably something to do with the ground water content or humidity levels.
This is why I hate Old Trafford sporting venues so much. Next door are the terrible Mancs and at the Cricket it's always raining like mad. Pak-India should be held at London where the weather is often much better instead of this dump. Being the most important match of all it deserved to be played at Lords.

Should at least get play from 1030 till 12 as now rain is scheduled from 12 onwards as per latest weather report.

And in my state, poor local organizers do cover whole ground. It isn't as "costly" as it sounds.

Possible. Very possible.
Extremely unlikely that we are going to have a full match.
But 20 20 definitely possible IF rain clears by 4pm.
