What's new

[PICTURES] Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (2019/20) | Round 1 | 14th-17th Sep, 2019 | Matches Thread

So old players are recycling again and again but this time less opportunities for young players. Our 2023 squad will be full of experience old players.

Be patient man. Youngsters like Naseem shah will definitely get chances soon now that the trundlers are being exposed. Look at our batsmen poling up huge runs, that's much better than the old domestic where nobody was scoring runs. Now bowlers have to work for their wickets and batsmen get to spend time at the crease

All posters having issues with selections need to realize that youngsters missing out today will definitely get their opportunity, its a long season and national contracted players will be away for few matches as well.

Is there any place to see live scorecards of all the matches? All the so called cricket apps and websites have been pretty poor in this regards.

Why is Mohammad Hasnain still playing in CPL? Was he already informed he is not being selected for this match so he can continue for few more days?

Outstanding comeback from South Punjab. Terrific knocks from Sami Aslam and Adnan Akmal.

He has been called back and must return straight away. His NOC was cancelled by PCB.

Stop whining. It's q good start. Pitches and selection will improve with time

Some people seem to think this should be an Under 19 tournament. Cannot believe we also have people wanting the new system to fail.

This is an infinitely superior system to the mishmash of regions and departments where you had 3-4 decent teams and the rest were marginally above club level. We are going to see the best Pakistani FC cricketers compete with each other, and with flatter pitches/Kookaburra balls - we will see those who made merry in a weak system get filtered.

He wasn't named in the 15, so hoping Naseem at least played 2nd XI.

what a difference a change of balls makes and some decent pitches makes, when was the last time 5 batsmen scored a hundred in a domestic first class opening round in qea trophy.

one thing stands out is that domestic players have rubbish fitness if spinners are bowling so many overs on the first day. yasir, shadab, imad, zafar, bilal, even haris sohail bowled 8 on the first day. not a great sign.

Pitches have been pretty good for the batsmen in all the first matches and much better than the wickets we were seeing in previous years.

I hope there will be bit of variety in the wickets going forward though I know its really difficult to prepare totally balanced wickets for bat and bowl so cant complain much with the wickets in the opening day as its much better than the wickets we have been seeing in last few years where wickets were falling everywhere.

Not to forget kookubura balls have also played their role.

I know it's Day 1 but toothless spin bowling from Shadab, Imad and Nawaz.

Beyond me how Imad and Nawaz are in the same XI in a FC match.

And why was Tanvir selected if he was only going to bowl eight overs?

It is made all the more ridiculous by the fact that Haris Rauf and Waqas Ahmed are warming the bench.

I am even surprised that Sohail Tanvir is given a full contract rather than limited overs specialist one.

Lahore, 14 September 2019:

Centuries by openers Abid Ali and Khurram Manzoor helped Sindh dominate the opening day of the four-day first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match against Balochistan at the UBL Sports Complex in Karachi on Saturday.

Abid struck his 18th century in his 103rd match while scoring 120 not out, and Khurram scored 105, his 27th century in his 163rd match, as Sindh finished the day at an impressive 237 for two after Balochistan became the first domestic side to use the ‘no-toss’ by deciding to bowl first.

The two batsmen, who had also scored consistently in the previous season, stitched up a 212-run partnership as Balochistan bowlers toiled for wickets for most of the day. Khurram was the leading run-getter with 886 runs in eight matches, while Abid had aggregated 472 runs in five matches.

Pakistan spinner Yasir Shah provided Balochistan quick breakthroughs by first dismissing Khurram and then two runs later Saad Ali as Sindh slipped from 212 for no wicket to 212 for two.

However, Asad Shafiq (five) joined Abid to ensure Sindh continued to hold the initiative when stumps were drawn for the day.

Abid faced 273 deliveries and struck 13 fours, while Khurram belted 13 fours and a six in a 242-ball that came off343 minutes of batting.

Yasir was the most successful Balochistan bowler with figures of 31-5-90-2.

The game will resume on Sunday at 10am.

Scores in brief:

Sindh (first innings) 237-2, 90 overs (Abid Ali 120 not out, Khurram Manzoor 105; Yasir Shah 2-90) v Balochistan

1999 mein first class mein manual scoresheets theen, 2019 mein bhi yehi haal hai

associate countries ki domestic mein digital scoresheets hain. if these scoresheets are lost, gone is your data analysis if one wants to assess

and how does the analyst slice and dice this data? I mean its not difficult to get a digitised scoresheet, atleast the support staff (coaches, analysts) can assess the data analyse it properly

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on top in Abbottabad

Abbottabad, 14 September 2019:

Ashfaq Ahmed scored his fifth first-class century as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa took early control of their four-day first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy clash against Northern in Abbottabad on Saturday.

At the close of play on the opening day at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were strongly placed at 343 for the loss of 4 wickets. Captain Muhammad Rizwan batted on 84 not out and with him was Adil Amin on 49, with the pair adding 91 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket stand.

Rizwan also got into a groove early and will be looking to pass the three-figure mark on Sunday. The right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman has so far hit 12 fours and a six in his 152-minute innings. Adil’s unbeaten 49 was laced with six boundaries.

There was no need for a coin toss as the visiting Northern captain Imad Wasim opted to bowl first.

Coming in at the fall of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s first wicket on 62, Ashfaq batted with confidence and began the new first-class cricket season with an innings of 106. He cracked 14 fours and a six in his 174-ball knock and 212-minute stay at the wicket.

Earlier, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s other batsmen failed to convert good starts into big scores. The hard-hitting left-handed opener Fakhar Zaman was aggressive early on -- hitting six fours in his 38-ball 33 -- but could not kick on. Sahibzada Farhan also looked good for his 29, while Iftikhar Ahmed was run out for 35.

Imad, who used six bowlers, finished the day with 1-44. Sadaf Hussain (1-58) and Musa Khan (1-65) were the other successful bowlers.

The match started after a delay of 15 minutes because of a wet square. However, no overs were lost.

A minute's silence was observed in memory of Pakistan's leg-spinning legend Abdul Qadir before the start of the proceedings.

Scores in brief:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (first innings) 343-4, 90 overs (Ashfaq Ahmed 106, Muhammad Rizwan 84 not out, Adil Amin 49 not out; Imad Wasim 1-44, Sadaf Hussain 1-58, Musa Khan 1-65) vs Northern

Unfinished 271-run stand between centurions Sami and Adnan rescue Southern Punjab

Lahore, 14 September 2019:

An unbroken 271-run fifth-wicket stand between Sami Aslam and Adnan Akmal guided Southern Punjab to 291 for four at the end of the first day’s play in the four-day first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match against Central Punjab at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

In a live-streamed match, there were initial hiccups for Southern Punjab as they were reduced to 74 for four half-way past the first session. But, Sami and Adnan, who were not out on 151 and 106, respectively at stumps weathered the storm.

Left-arm pacer Waqas Maqsood accounted for Shan’s wicket in the seventh over by rattling his stumps through the gap between the left-handed batsman’s bat and front-pad.

Hasan Ali soon ticked the wickets’ column on the first ball of his second spell by inducing an edge of Imran Rafiq’s blade to be caught by Babar Azam, the Central Punjab’s captain, at the second slip.

Waqas struck in tandem, removing Sohaib Maqsood and Umar Siddiq, in a span of five balls during the 23rd accumulating the visiting side’s troubles. These four, however, were the only wickets the home side picked during the day.

Rearguard efforts from Sami and Adnan brought Southern Punjab back in the match. The duo added 113 runs over the course of the afternoon session with the scorecard reading 195 for four at tea.

The two batsmen struck centuries in the evening session after a brief rain interval. While Sami eased into triple digits, Adnan had his nervous moments as he had two reprieves on consecutive balls on 89 – with Azhar Ali grassing a leading edge in the slip cordon off Waqas’ bowling.

Before the beginning of the match, both teams, match officials, and PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani observed a minute’s silence in the memory of the spin maestro Abdul Qadir.

Scores in brief:

Southern Punjab (first innings) 291-4, 84 overs (Sami Aslam 151 not out, Adnan Akmal 106 not out; Waqas Maqsood 3-51, Hasan Ali 1-67) v Central Punjab

Good to see high scores!

This will weed out the quality bowlers from mediocre, who were being assisted by the supportive pitches and balls.

Also, this will help batsmen instill some extra patience to get that big hundred - talking about the 200's and 300's, which the current batch of batsmen are unable to do.

Azhar Ali said after Day 1's play that the pitch was 'slow, low and quite dead'.

But the pitch does have a few cracks.

The pitch offered enough to waqas who pitched the ball up.
Azhsr doesnt have any shame, did he mention he dropped adnan

Azhar knows a thing about pitch more than you and he was playing the match.

PCB have uploaded the highlights of Day 1 of each game.

Appreciate it as it's a big upgrade on previous seasons, but the editing is horrible.

The new system will make it much easier to focus on the performance of players from first and second XIs.The poor performers can't hide now.Let us the new system rewards merit and the best performers from second XI do get promoted.

sadaf hussain is 30 now , unfair to test him now after he has toiled away his best years in domestic cricket.

wouldnt 30 be the peak for a bowler? ... he has experience at his back ... and isnt tht old .... should be a proper test for him now and many youngsters as well

Stuart Broad is over 33 and he is bowling excellent spells in the Ashes series.Jimmy Anderson is 37 and still bowling well in English conditions. It all depends on one's fitness and hunger for the game.

Man, coverage and quality of the tournament has improved leaps and bounds. It actually feels like test cricket and not just some random club level players playing.

Sadly, these same people will be sharpening their knives ahead of the Australia tour. Will no doubt be complaining the new domestic structure hasn't produced instant results.

Yup, one department has renewed its players contract by one year cause they expect this to fail and departments to be back next year:inti

I think pitches are good. Batsmen dominated more but there was something for the bowlers. The measure of how good it is will been seen in the next 3 days. I personally think there will be something more for the bowlers later on.

How is this helping?

Dead wickets and a Kookaburra ball which does nothing from overs 20-80.

Who is supposed to bowl at Brisbane in 65 days?

At this rate it will be Hasan Ali who is too short for that wicket, Rabat Ali and an unfit Abbas, along with Yasir Shah!

That’s a recipe for disaster.

Ideally the team should land in Australia on 1 November at the latest.

Who’s going to bowl?

Saad replaces Salahuddin in the first-ever use of concussion substitute in Pakistan domestic history

Lahore, 15 September 2019:

Central Punjab’s Usman Salahuddin will not participate anymore in the first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match against Southern Punjab at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium after getting hit on the neck while fielding on the first day of the match.

Marking the first-ever use concussion substitute in the history of Pakistan domestic cricket, the Central Punjab side will have Mohammad Saad, the right-handed batsman, replace Salahuddin.

Salahuddin was hit on the left-side of his neck while fielding at short-leg when Sami Aslam went for a sweep off Bilal Asif’s bowling in the first session of the match.

The player was immediately examined for concussion and was taken off the field for an X-ray. Salahuddin had “neck pain, headache, and blurred vision immediately after injury”.

A team is allowed 24 hours to ask for a concussion substitute after monitoring the injured player, according to the PCB’s Concussion substitute rule.
