Watching him today at close quarters and whilst it's a warm-up match and one boundary was tiny, I had mixed views.

He was bowling at a fairly decent pace, seemed to be around the same pace as Hasan Ali. Nice run-up and action, but he looked like a bowler who the opposition will target especially on wickets that are quite flat.

Hope he gets a chance with the bat. He was destructive in that game against Sindh where he plasted Sohail Khan, Rumman Raees.

Everyone who saw Hasan Ali, and just like the thread starter, felt he's going to be easy to target. Only later they realized how uncanny Hasan was. I'd wait before giving my judgments.

That's a great picture. Great timing.

Unless he plays 8 - 10 games you cannot make any conclusions about him. Its unfair.

Why will the opposition target him?

Was he not getting any swing/seam compared to others ? How was his lines/lengths ?

Not given us much info , oppositions will target everyone , if he keeps his calm under pressure he will get wickets, his figures suggest he was among the most economical among the bowlers on display

I'd actually seen Hasan Ali bowling for Pakistan A before quite a few people had and knew he would be a good bowler irrespective of the obsession with pace of some.

No swing, no seam movement, no variety and it was clear that Bangladesh had a plan to target him.

That's why the title is called first impressions.

Also in the OP I don't see where it says he will not succeed.

I was just saying that Fahim could still come good sir. Maybe we need to give him some time to come good. He can be a great asset for us. As far as your comment on pace, I'm with you. I'd rate Asif (supposedly low on pace) as one of the best Pakistan bowlers.

Definitely one for the future. It might be unfair to throw him into the fire in the CT. Let's see if he plays.

But I would definitely play him in the next ODI series.

Love his batting. Smashing it to all parts.

Unorthodox but effective.

From the little I saw he is the only lower order hitter in Pakistan who can smash ball from the start.

Should play ahead of Junaid and Wahab.

Clean striking of the ball.

Most of his shots weren't slogs.

Very good at hitting the ball straight especially over long on.

Forget his bowling... Look at his batting OMG....
He's the guy we definitely need..

Have said it before too that for our team a player lke Fahim's role is more important than Yamin. Yamin is a proper bat and so are Imad and Shadab. But We need a lower order hitter like Fahim and frankly I dont see any apart from him. Bowling wise there isnt much difference between the 2.

The second making of Lance Klusenar. I saw this guy in domestic cricket and he does strike it big, he has very good hitting technique as well.

He bowls at 135-140 km/hr as well. We have found a gem here.

Imad, Shadab, Fahim and Hasan... Our lower order is shaping up well

All we need to do is remove Azhar, Shehzad and Hafeez.

i dont know how he bowls, but hear his batting is good, which is something we need :) hopefully he can carry his good form if he gets some games in the tourney itself.

40meters boundary at one side? Thats like hong kong sixes.

Hia batting cannot be judged like that.

he is proper batsmen this could help you guys

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79kxOJuhE5I

His FC average is also better then his Lisa A average of 15, in FC cricket he averages 30 with the bat having scored 2 hundreds and 4 50's and under 25 with the ball. In the recent Pakistan Cup he came in down the order I believe in a sort of Moeen Ali role and played some decent cameo; I feel he should be batting a little higher in the order and that 15 average in List A is very deceiving because there is some abillity there. Really good piece of work from Inzi on scouting him out

Problems are at the top of the order. I'd be happy to give him the whole tournament as opener

He doesn't anywhere near 140 km/h.

More between 130-135 km/h.

i am keen follower of him and he was brilliant with the bowl in last pakistan cup in 2016 .he can bowl

heavy bowl and also heard muddasar nazar and mushtaq ahmed have worked very hard with him and

looks like it has paid off i just hope he is treated properly by sarfi .he is future

All of the other batsmen had the same facility. Azhar Ali and Hafeez batted at SRs of 58 and 78 respectively.

Definitely, god willing we get the best out of him; am sure he will start for the game against India after today's performance

This is the thing , you need to play younger players , then only you can see, Give fair chances to youngster bowler.

Fahim has made a strong case for inclusion of youngsters in the team. Seniors hafeez, azhar, are useless they've taken our team to the bottom and continue to shamelessly occupy place in the team without any merit. If we want to compete in this CT2017 azhar, hafeez must be dropped. fahim and fakhar should play.

Just been to the match....what a game.
Faheem hit a few long long sixes...atmosphere just turned in the last 45 mins.
And of course Hasan swung merrily...
My neph pointed out Saj Sadiq who wa sa few seats away.
First game also for my young neph who is 9...he wont forget this one in a hurry!

in 2016 pakistan cup he was quite nippy one flat wicket .he can touch 140 but average speed is 135 km/h
He has a very poor action that limits his pace, if he rectifies and works on his fitness he can potentially bowl in the 135-140 km/h range.

Yeh but still. 40 meters is like the inside circle of the ground. Like you could play a cut shot and it could end up as 6.

If you have watched 2010 nz series, ahmed shezad ended up hitting a century because the ground was very small.

Im very reluctant of fahim ashraf. He might be being portrayed as a hard hitter but remember he wasnt picked by a psl tea. In the drafts.

Lets hope i get proven wrong though but im a bit reluctant

Im quite impressed with hafeez. 3 overs and look at his economy. The guy should had bowled his full 10 overs qouta.

Remember, india won last time in england because of jadeja, hafeez needs to get 10 overs in

Going off the scorecard Hasan bowled very well. To go at an ER of around 5 is impressive to say the least considering the 40m boundaries.

Couldnt go do watch even though my brother and a cousin did ask me to come along. on the topic , he should be given a long run cause he seems to have it what we have been waiting for(an agressive alrounder down the order). can be a destructive T20 specialist if not LOi's.

The thing is he can easily share 10 overs with Hafeez. There is no need for Imad for the game v India as they are good players of spin.

Out attack next week should be:

Amir
Junaid
Hassan
Fahim
Shadab
Hafeez

Good point so maybe:

1)Hafeez
2)Shehzad
3)Azam
4)Malik
5)Saf
6)Imad
7)Fahim
8)Shadab
9)Amir
10)Hassan
11)Junaid

Seems a batsman light but could work if Hafeez opens. Personally I would see how Haris plays in the warm up against the Aussies and maybe play him instead of Imad in the middle order.

Uhmm Imad should play. Azhar, shezad and even hafeez who is a mental midget can sit out.

Imad isnt scared. He should be in.

I'm struggling to see what Imad offers.

He doesn't pick up wickets nor is he economical. If he only brings his batting to the table then we're better off picking a genuine batsman who can bowl a bit.

Seems a good knock but his bowling is the key. No point playing someone because they might hit a quick 30 lower down but are not confident with their main job.

Has an average of 15 in list A, I'm going to notch this up to a one-off. Though if he turns out to be a genuine hard hitting pace all-rounder I'll be ecstatic, god knows we need one.

Poor Azhar Ali, has nothing to do in ODIs,Pakistan need to open with Shehzad ( a bit better ODI player than Azhar) and Hafeez and get Haris Sohail in.

Cricinfo says all the sixes were over the LONG boundary, not the 40 m one.

Ave 30 and 2 100's in FC cricket suggests he can bat better than the A List average would suggest.
Still very small sample size you will note, he bats very low down in A List, and he is young.

Do none of you remember him bowling to Salman Butt in the QEA Final six months ago?

It was comically pathetic. You couldn't say it was a case of "men against boys". It was like watching an Under-17 girl bowling to Virat Kohli.

First there was the unfixable: Fahim Ashraf is simply too short to be a quick bowler.

Secondly, his bowling technique was a catastrophe in every respect. Purposeless run-up. Poor wrist position. Scrambled seam. No bounce. No swing. No seam.

He certainly batted better than his teammate Amad Butt.

But Amad Butt has the height and the pace to be trainable into an international fourth seamer. Faheem Ashraf doesn't.
