[PICTURES/VIDEOS] First impressions: Mohammad Hasnain

More important than his speeds was that he took 3 wickets and helped his team win a cup final, showing he has the temperament for the big occasion. Excited to see him v Aus.

Bravo said that Hasnain was the difference in the final and Pakistan has another great fast bowler at their hands.

Needs to work on his run-up and seam. His run-up is laboured and if sorted will make his action more smoother and consistent. I am a little worried about his seam but we have a real talent on our hands.

There was a ball he bowled today that made me smile and sit up with happiness.

It did not take a wicket. but it was fantastic viewing - a ball that whistled past the nose of the batsman at high speed. This on a flat deck.

Hasnain just looked at the batsman as if if to say "try and hit that mate".

You were also worried about Shaheen's seam position and look how that turned out :)

I still am- I want to be proved wrong but a left armer will find it difficult to take wickets of good right handers without a good seam. Hopefully I am wrong, but the jury is still out.

He has to work on his fitness because he looks chubby (perhaps it is baby fat) and secondly his laborious run up.

The kid is 18 years old, not 38.

Give him time, there are bound to be a few teething problems and areas to work on.

Ludicrous to think that a bowler will be perfect in all areas at the age of 18.

Pakistani teenager Mohammad Hasnain could emerge as one of the fresh faces of world cricket, as the dashing pace ace seeks to make his international debut against Australia in Sharjah on Friday.

From playing with a taped cricket ball on the streets of Hyderabad to the bright lights of the Pakistan Super League, right-armer Hasnain has won plaudits, with former Australian allrounder Shane Watson declaring he had never seen an 18-year-old bowl as quick.

Dean Jones, the Australian Hall of Famer and coach of PSL franchise Islamabad, confirmed Hasnain had topped speeds of 150km/h through the Twenty20 tournament while representing Quetta Gladiators. He was man of the match in the final, claiming 3-30 and then declared he wanted a spot in Pakistan's World Cup side.

"I have always been a fast bowler and I hope to bowl even faster," Hasnain said.

"I prefer getting my wickets via yorkers or bouncers. want to do well in the ODIs against Australia [and] maybe get a spot in the World Cup squad as well."

He finished the PSL with 12 wickets at 17.58, and made an impression on all who had watched his deeds.

Jones said Hasnain predominantly bowled two lengths - yorkers and bouncers - while Watson said "Hasnain's control over his length and swing is very impressive and he varies his pace very well".

For those with a keen eye on emerging talent, Hasnain took part in a Pakistan under-16 tour of Australia in late 2015 although local cricketing figures were hazy on Tuesday when it came to remembering him.

In an interview on pakpassion, Hasnain said: "This was my first experience of an overseas tour and I feel I did well where I picked up four wickets in two one-dayers and two Twenty20 matches."

He added: "I have a few role models who I try to emulate whenever I bowl. Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Sami and most importantly Waqar Younis are the Pakistan players whose videos I watch a lot to see if I can improve my bowling. Adam Milne of New Zealand is the non-Pakistani bowler I admire the most and whilst I have met Shoaib Akhtar and Waqar Younis, I would love to meet Milne one day and talk about my bowling with him."

In a weakened Pakistan side missing six front-line players, Hasnain - with only two first-class matches to his credit - could have an important role to play in the five-match series against Australia in the United Arab Emirates.

For the Australians, this series is their last before the World Cup squad is chosen by April 23, and has even more importance for the batsmen for David Warner and Steve Smith are determined to force their way into the XI once their bans expire. Warner and Smith are in India ahead of the Indian Premier League season beginning this weekend.

Skipper Aaron Finch has been backed but 157 runs (top score 93) at 31.4 in the winning five-match series against India has the hard-hitting opener keen for time in the middle.

Hasnain should replace Hasan Ali by all means in match vs South Africa.

Few Suggestions for Azhar Mehmood and Hasnain.

1. Hasnain should spend few sessions with Waqar You is in nets.

2. Azhar Mehmood hopefully is working on his wrist position aswell as ball release. Azhar himself bowled good outswingers to right handed batsmen.

3. Hasnain needs to bowl good swingers or indippers to Amla, Makaram and De Cock. He needs to practice hard wrt his length and line with new ball. Length should be just short of " the slot " are giving the ball enough time to swing in the air and drives from this length won't be easy. Slips would be in action aswell as lbw dismissal vs De Cock. Speeds of such deliveries should be in excess of 142 kph.

4. Hasnain with new ball should occasionally surprise the batsmen with 145+ kph bouncer above shoulder height aswell as toe crushing Yorker. He should do adequate practice.

5. With old ball he should mostly prefer 143+ kph Yorkers and lesser slower bowls which should be surprise element and not routine cutters.

6. Hasnain should also bowl Yorkers to right hand batsmen from around the wicket with old ball. He has a slightly slingy action abit round arm hence from around the wicket he should target hitting off stump of RHB at pace in excess of 142 kph. Needs lots of practice to master this. Hasnain must see footage of Lasith Malinga where he dismissed Steve Smith. Duplesis with high back lift could be bowled like that aswell and scoring will be very difficult if Hasnain bowls Yorkers from this angle with precision.

7. Hasnain must bowl fast. Atleast 2,3 deliveries should be bowled at 150 kph. There should be a short leg for him with new ball.

If he does this I am pretty sure that He can win the next match for Pakistan. InshaAllah.

Note : Sarfraz shouldn't be in Hasnain's ears each over. Let him execute his training and plans. Give him the new ball along with Amir.

Best Wishes and Prayers Hasnain. Be Confident and fearless. May Allah bless you.

Now that we are heading out of the world cup I'm really looking forward to seeing Hasnain on Friday against Bangladesh. He has the potential to break the speed record in the world cup.

wahab is concentrating on white ball cricket so i dnt mind him playing but shinwari is bowling at 80mphs here..need better than that

Misbah speaking to the media today:

"Musa and Naseem are playing FC cricket, they are fit enough for 4-day and Test cricket. Hasnain's fitness and conditioning towards the longer format, based on what the physio and trainer have told us: we need to work on him after the Australia tour and build him up gradually towards bowling 12, 14, 16 overs, even before playing FC cricket. According to the physio, if we put him in FC cricket before readying him, he can get a long-term injury after playing 1-2 matches. After the Australia tour, he will come back and do some work for 4-6 weeks and gradually he will become fitter for the longer format"

Yet this lad was taken to the World Cup.

Why do we play with the careers of our cricketers and then we wonder why they have serious injuries.

Is he that bad or Australian batsmen too good for him?

That monster six from Finch!

Has not improved an inch so far. Looks like another PSL drama who has been exposed.

Cant expect much when are defending 106 in a T20 match.

Exciting prospect, but still has a very long way to go. He's not international standard yet, and he needs urgent work on his run up and action. Once the remedial work is done, needs to play FC cricket to learn how to control his bowling. Nasim Shah is a more polished product, and is far more ready.

bowled pretty good with good gas..with that score what do you expect...he does need to improve his fieldg though otherwise another irfan...

Mickey Arthur on TV:

"Hasnain was with us at the World Cup, he's been with the squad for around 9 months. His role was to bowl in the middle overs and strike with Shadab. There was clear role definition, taking wickets was key and during that lovely run under Sarfaraz, our bowling defended a lot"

Still a massive work in progress. If he puts his head down and works hard he could be a solid bowler.

Is international cricket about taking wickets or simply a pace contest ?

Maintain he was selected 1-2 years too soon.

Will be solid all format bowler in 2-3 years the challenge is to stop him from being a pyjama leagues merchant

No wickets but virtually unplayable by looks of it for AFG U23 batsmen!

5 overs for 8 runs

Doing well Hasnain in PSL 5 - 2 wickets so far

Born: April 5, 2000 (age 20 years), Hyderabad, Pakistan

Happy Birthday Hasnain!

Needs to learn how to consistently bowl in the corridor of uncertainty. If he could master that skill he could be as lethal and Shoaib Akhtar

Excellent spell today 2/31 for Sindh in the National T20 Cup.

A bit lethargic today. Seemed to be a bit out of sorts.

Some run-up issues again.

He has actually regressed badly in the past 2 years. His pace and energy looks down and his skills with the ball have not developed either.

Misbah and Waqar complained he lacked the fitness to bowl long spells and they wanted to work on that, can't tell what work has been done on that front. Can't see what Waqar has done to improve anything.

Fitness is one thing a player can work on he doesnt need a coach to help him work on that

Good performance by Hasnain considering Northern's total!

Mohammad Hasnain's 4 overs : 2/37

Bowled well today. Its high time for him to play longer formats to develop further as a bowler.

This guy is one of thr most improved bowler in the team.
Good to see him learning.

I will egt hanged for this but I think Naseem and Husnain will end up with more success then Shaheen once they get experience.
Husnain might just be our bowler with most potential givin he is not limited by height like Naseem all he needs is make his aaction and run up more smoother build endurance and play 4 day cricket.

You think he makes it to the test team?

Not yet. Needs to start playing FC cricket first. Hopefully we have more A tours lined up where he can gain experience. You can start to see some development in his game though which is good.

He has done well without any regional hype like Haris Rauf. Should continue to improve

I thought he was very good. He moved the ball and bowled at 145kph plus at times. He also bowled nice slower ones and cutters. I feel we are wasting him by always bowling him last match of series. He was better than Shsheen and Rauf and bowled the most dot balls.

The time and investment in him is showing rewards.

The run up looks smoother, the approach to the crease is better and he is going through his action much better. Previously it was all a bit disjointed, now there is cohesion and fluidity in his bowling action.

Last 5 T20Is, an economy-rate of only 6.20:

4-29-0
4-22-1
4-28-0
4-25-1
4-20-2

He would have made it difficult for the NZL in tests. With his height can extract bounce depending on the pitch it might be uneven as well + pace + moves the ball . Difficult bowler to face in tests if line and length is good because he has pace and bounce. The management has thrown him to Shaheens and keeps Sohail Khan instead.

Misbah and his tactics are simply :ma

He has improved so well. His run-up and bowling action look so much more cleaner. He's getting good pace, hitting consistent line-lengths and has strengthen his variety in his bowling. Waqar Younis has done well with Hasnain.

good bowler he should come in at first change.rauf is slightly better with the new ball he gets more movement.he needs to play domestic 4 day games

he needs to plau 4 day games i domestic before picked in the national test side

He was beating everybody for pace. Also the length he was hitting was making it very hard for batsmen to play. Just a few bad balls ruined his figures. Although 29 runs in 4 overs is still pretty decent.

I have a lot of time for him. He gets on with the job.

Has made impact in big ticket finals.

Is hard to get away. Learning all the time.

People were wrong to judge him on early erratic performances but right to send him back to domestics.

However, real tests are to come. ODIs and Tests in due time. He should earn his way into tests.

Needs too earn it by playing domestic.

And some credit where it's due for Waqar Younis who has put in a lot of work with Hasnain.

Hasnain is getting better, but he has yet to have that breakthrough match or series where he stamps his mark upon the world. I think he just needs the confidence at this stage, that he has that x factor and he should just keep working as hard as possible.

There was a time period between the PSL 4 final and the CPL stint that he was the hottest commodity during.

So he's now finally settled on a stock delivery to bowl, I.e. the back of the length ball, which at his pace is a percentage for ball. As can be seen from the last few t20s, he's hitting that length consistently.

The next steps on his plate should be:

1) Batsmen will eventually start coming down to him regularly like Seifert did. He (and the coaching staff) should anticipate this and work on further shortening his length and tucking the batsman up line-wise. He should only do this if he she's the batsmen coming down, so it has to be a 'reactive' delivery, something that can be done from training this delivery continually in the nets.

2) He needs to work on executing his Yorker and bouncer and on understanding when to use it. This only comes from first class experience.

3) He needs to regain the ability to move the ball off the seam. I remember we saw a bit of this in debut season in PSL4, where he got so in moving LBWs. Who better to learn off regarding this ball than Mohammad Abbas.

4) Similarly, he needs to work on his inswing. He's clearly got the ability to bowl outswing, so next step is to tirelessly try inswing. Again, this is what first class is for.

It's shame that he's unlikely to play much first class in 2021. Given that the t20 world cup will be in Oct-November 2021, he'll at least miss the first three-four round of games.
Further, Pakistan play SA from end of Jan 2021, by playing the Tests first. The Pakistan Cup goes from beginning of Jan to beginning of Feb. I'd make sure he plays the full Pakistan Cup, as it's the only chance he'll get to play a full tournament that's not T20.

His run-up was way too long, he was running in too fast and was unsteady when he was delivering the ball.

They have worked on this with him and he is making better use of his run up and is steadier when delivering the ball.

Good prospect..... I. Mean good prospect esp for long term period and for ODI and longer formats.... I want PCB TO monitor his t20 participation

Credit to Waqar for his improvement.....we bash him for many reason but must appreciate him for his effort

Smashed all over for 58 runs in 4 overs for Shaheens v Northern Districts.

Needs a good year of domestic cricket before he plays with green cap on. Poor man’s Mohammad Sami. Even after all these games.

He is not ready.

All of the Pakistani young fast bowlers have potential but its amazing how none of them are ready except Shaheen.
