[PICTURES/VIDEOS] First impressions: Mohammad Hasnain

Hasnain needs to play fc cricket qea to really develop properly as a bowler.

He's playing hardly any red ball cricket at domestic level

Looked underwhelming again.

Compare him to Shahnawaz, who has arrived later and you will get to see a huge difference in presence.

May it's the mental aspect or the lack of skill but he seems to produce garbage deliveries for some unknown reason , I don't think there was much pressure in today's match , ah common lad it's been more than 2 years and you can't seems to bowl yorker at all.
I don't think he can be a good shorter format bowler with this problem. Dhani is head and shoulders above him in every aspect except pace.

Some fun!

Was content with making Tahir miss the ball, rather than get him out.

He is too nice and doesn't rate himself to take wickets. He needs to have a mental growth if he has to become a potent bowler.

He did what was better for the team. Tahir had a greater chance of being out on a full ball but also smoking a 6 like he did previously, and somehow bringing them back into the game.

I've actually enjoyed watching Hasnain bowl at PSL6.

Yes at times he has shown his inexperience and not bowled how he should have, but at the same time he has bowled with pace and with some fire in his belly.

He looks to be improving.

Defo improving...his run up is smoother now and speeds up there. Any reason y he hasnt played even one first class match i can only think because of injury

I dont make observations from isolated events.
This was just a small example. But by and large, he will have to challenge himself to make a bigger impact with his presence.
You get that from Shaheen, Hasan and you see this trait in Shahnawaz as well.
Hasnain is quicker than all three, yet he doesn't rate himself enough to stamp his authority in any given situation.

Agreed, his presence is not felt when he's bowling.

Someone like Dahani has impressed me with his ability to take wickets out of seemingly nothing. He's expensive, but he's taking wickets, so he should be backed. Could be a potential prospect for test matches as well.

Shaheen is a class above everyone at the moment, and Hasan has been doing well but isn't getting much limelight.

Hasnain needs to take wickets to get noticed, because he has all the ingredients to be a good white ball bowler but he isn't putting them together. He has height, he's very quick, and can dish out a good yorker when he gets it right. Needs to go to FC Cricket to bowl long overs and get more control over his bowling.

Everyone learns at their own pace. Hasnain doesn't have the same intelligence as Shaheen or Hassan for sure.

However he is very young and has the height and pace to do well. Plus, even more importantly, he has improved over the past couple of years.

I don't mind that he's developing slowly. What he needs to do now is play first class cricket for a season or two.

mental aspect is lacking, he has the tools to become Pakistan's best fast bowler in his generation but needs to make a name for more than just pace, I am afraid Sami's comparison will start not in a good way

He's not talking about intelligence. What he's referring to innate belief that you're the baddest **** on the field. That's something that can't be taught. Those who have "it" have always had it. Whether they were born with a little psycho mentality or circumstances of their life forced them to develop it.

This is not just visible in cricket but in every sport.

He just needs to bowl Yorkers at will and stop getting scared in tough situation , his new bowl bowling skills and control are good enough. Until he gain control over his yorkers he must not play T20 for Pak because he will more likely to cost us the game instead of winning it , ODis and Tests are ideal for him now but atleast after one full season under his belt.

I feel like I can identify the reason why hasnain seems to struggle with control at times and why his pace feels less threatening than it should be. Unfortunately, I have no way of getting that through to him lol. But steyns the best mentor he could've asked for. His biggest issue is that he bowls really wide of the crease. If he comes in close to the stumps the angles will automatically become more attacking and he can hit more attacking lengths without providing the batsman any room. This will make his line more consistent too because when you're bowling with an angle if you miss by an inch on where it pitches it'll be a foot too wide.

Fair enough. He doesn't have that outward passion of someone like Shoaib, Shaheen or Hassan.

He is similar to Umar Gul and Rao.

However, it is also clear that he is very young and someone who has a shy but excitable personality. He seems to be having a laugh with his teammates and enjoying the experience, without taking any pressure. Perhaps when he gets more seasoned, he will have higher expectations and therefore push harder.

As an Indian admirer of your pace bowling stocks - When I first saw him in intl cricket, I did feel this young guy has all the ingradients to go big....the potential is there. However, does seem short of confidence, maybe inexperience. A couple of FC seasons and if you throw in a county season or two or even playing in the English leagues would defo help. Needs to pitch it up more to give it a chance to swing, and can defo be groomed to bowl more Yorkers - if he gets this aspect right, he would be gold in T20's. On the outer, I feel Pak has the makings of a good pace attack for the future with all these youngsters coming in.
