He just demonstrated an innings of pure masterclass when he had his side down for 12/3. Another English batsmen that is destined for the top. He reminds of Jason Roy the way he plays. What do you guys think?

Brilliant innings, looks like a quality young player this kid.

He played a very good knock and he has very impressive T20 numbers but in first class he has not done anything of note yet.

Only averages 27 after 78 innings which means he is not gonna be a test player although very young could redeem himself but looks unlikely.

I m sure he is gonna play for England in Lois.

Harry Brook - Star in the making

An extraordinary, high class, innings! What pure cricket stroke-play and shot-making! The innings was special not only given the match situation but also the quality of the strokes played by him. I just watch the highlights of it (and I also watched it live), I´m so obsessed with his innings. The most enthralling moment yet was the one where Brook brought up his hundred in front of the home Lahore crowd. Goosebumps and hair-raising stuff! A great moment!

Harry Brook - Star in the making

It was perhaps the innings of the tournament by Brook, so far at least. I don't remember too many better than his, barring perhaps one brilliant innings by Shadab Khan.

He seems like a player who should be batting in the middle overs and not in the death overs.

Amazing hitting by Brook - taking the game away from Multan

Seems like a pretty much ready product for international cricket. Some players have the gift of strength in shot making, he seems to have that.

Top Innings by Brook but for him to make it into England t20/odi squad he needs to score heavily in every place in the world.

Brilliant Talent this guy.

His century was one of the best things in PSL 7

He is brilliant. This was a great little signing for Lahore, hopefully he will play other gems for Lahore in years to come.

PSL 7 numbers:

264 runs at an average of 52.80

Look at the strike-rate of 171.42

Fantastic pick by LQ.

Harry Brook is top of the County Championship Division 1 batting stats in England so far this year, along with Ben Compton and Dawid Malan.

Brook averaging over 200 so far :O

Lethal player going to be a megastar I called it

194 for Yorkshire, looking like a match-winning display.

Looks an exceptional batter with a wonderful temperament.

Has the makings of becoming an excellent batter who could go on and play for a long time for England.

<b>Harry Brook is aiming to dazzle England selectors after making last-minute international T20 debut against the West Indies</b>

• Harry Brook played for England against the West Indies in a T20 in January

• Brook was a late replacement for captain Eoin Morgan in the mid-series defeat

• The 23-year-old has made an impressive start for Yorkshire this season

• He became the first player to pass 500 runs for the campaign on Saturday

Brook, the latest batting talent to emerge from Yorkshire, made a 10 from 13 balls in a mid-series defeat to West Indies that January evening from an unfamiliar position of number seven. An innings at odds with the 49-ball hundred he made for Lahore Qalandars the following month, the second fastest in Pakistan Super League history, and many others in the Vitality Blast and Hundred over recent times.

Not that his run scoring exploits have been limited to white-ball matches. On Saturday, on just the 11th day of County Championship action for Yorkshire this season, Brook became the first player in Division One to pass the 500-run mark when he completed a career-best 194 against Kent at Headingley. There has been consistency: he has passed 50 on each of his first five visits to the crease. And he's scored quickly too: a strike rate of 79 is the highest of the top 50 contributors.

And so, with a place at number four up for grabs - county colleague Dawid Malan is now viewed as too old at 34 to be part of England's red-ball reset while Essex's Dan Lawrence's fitness is uncertain due to a hamstring tear - Brook, Roses rival Josh Bohannon, who bats at a much more sedate tempo, and Nottinghamshire's Joe Clarke will come under consideration to contest Ollie Pope, of Surrey, for the first Test squad of the summer against New Zealand on June 2.

Brook insists he is not looking any further than making the significant contributions that influence results for Yorkshire but is clear about his career priorities.

'I still think that Test cricket is the pinnacle and the best format of the game standard-wise,' he told the Mail On Sunday.

'Having played in the County Championship for a few years now, the feeling of getting a win and scoring runs is so much more fulfilling. It feels like you've deserved it because you've worked hard for it over four days and Test cricket is called so because it is a test.'

In 2021, his 797 runs at 37.95 represented his best season to date and with 50 first-class matches behind him, the work the former England Under-19 captain has done with Martin Speight, his coach at Sedbergh School, is clearly coming to fruition.

But he is also something of a magpie. Last year, batting alongside Joe Root taught him about pacing innings, and Brook said: 'I've always looked at the best players in the world and tried to take bits from them, to take from their game and put it in mine. If they're the best, why not?

‘When you get to a certain level it's mental rather than technical stuff. How to score runs. Instead of looking pretty for 30 and getting out, I've been looking to score big hundreds and more runs generally. My reading of situations is better,' he said.

'Obviously if you get picked for your country and get the opportunity to potentially play, you can only take confidence from that. It was a really good experience out there, I enjoyed every minute of it and I do think I've come back from last winter a better player.'

<b>MoS</b>

Harry Brook believes he has improved in “every area” since he burst onto the scene with a maiden career century in Yorkshire’s memorable win at Essex in 2018.

Brook, 23-years-old, has been one of county cricket’s standout batters so far in 2022.

His 512 runs from three LV= Insurance County Championship matches, including two hundreds and three fifties, puts him in the top five leading scorers across both divisions.

It is form which has also put him in serious contention for an England Test call this summer.

Brook’s next outing comes against Essex at Chelmsford, a game starting tomorrow at the venue where he posted his first of six Championship hundreds to date in 2018.

On May 5, 2018, Brook posted a sensational second-innings 124 after Yorkshire had been bowled out for 50 on the opening day of a game which will never be forgotten.

His innings set up a target of 238 for Essex, which they fell well short of to hand the visitors a 91-run victory.

In the build-up to this week’s trip south, Brook spoke about his memories of that game and his improvements since.

“That was a mental game, which we somehow managed to win,” he recalled. “Hopefully we can do the same again this week without being bowled out for 50!

“The way I went about that innings, I was positive and tried to put pressure on the bowlers. That’s what I’m trying to do at the minute.

“In every area. I think I’m a lot stronger, a lot more mature, technically better. I think everything has improved for me since then.”

Brook also spoke about a more relaxed attitude to his cricket, which is being helped by his love for another sport.

“I used to beat myself up a lot when I was younger if I hadn’t scored as many runs as I’d wanted,” he said. “I don’t feel I care as much now, and I’m playing without fear.

“It’s just a game of cricket, and I’m going to get out at some point.

“I’m trying not to beat myself up as much and just enjoy the game more and playing with my mates.”

Brook admits that forging that more relaxed attitude to cricket was a tricky process to master: “I’d say so,” he said.

“When I was younger, everything was about cricket – trying to be a professional cricketer and making it to the top. So, if I did fail, it was devastating and would be the worst day ever.

“Now, there’s bigger things happening in the world, and that kind of thing comes with maturity and age.”

And asked what helps him divert some of his focus away from cricket,” he smiled: “Golf. Trying to be a pro golfer as well!”

Brook made his T20 international debut in Barbados in January, and the speculation around a Test debut – possibly as early as June against New Zealand – is increasing.

After the weekend draw against Kent at Headingley, Yorkshire coaching duo Ottis Gibson and Ali Maiden gave their opinions on the development and form of the Burley-in-Wharfedale player.

Assistant coach Maiden said: “The pleasing thing for me is his hunger to post big scores. That’s what separates the best players from the rest – they don’t get tired of scoring runs, they keep going, churn them out.

“You don’t know that when you first see them in the nets, but I’ve seen it more and more. I’ve been very impressed.”

Head coach Gibson added: “The thing I’ve noticed straightaway is his work ethic. He works really hard. When you see someone working that hard, you get a sense of satisfaction when they get the rewards.

“His rewards aren’t just coming on the back of his talent, they are coming on the back of his hard work.

“It’s not going to be long before the call comes from upstairs. We’ll wish him well, and hopefully he’ll go and make a lot of runs and have a fantastic international career.”

What a season Harry Brook is having. This is his seventh first-class innings and he's reached at least 50 in all of them!
The Yorkshire youngster has converted three of those into hundreds so far and you wouldn't bet against him making it four here at Chelmsford.
Brook brings up this latest half-century from 48 balls and he and Dawid Malan have put together a brisk 100 partnership.

He’s looked exceptional in PSL and wondered about his average in FC. Good to see him performing in FC he clearly has the technique to succeed at test level.

In absolutely unbelievable form.

Scoring centuries like they are going out of fashion.

Does this really tell us anything meaningful about the batsman at all?

This is the same county cricket where the geriatric Pujara has smashed 4 consecutive hundreds - he couldn't put bat to ball in Ranji.

On the other hand, if Brooks works hard he can certainly hope to become as good as Ollie Pope. Or Bairstow.

Good talent. Needs to perform for the next few seasons to be considered for test selection. The bowling in county cricket bar the overseas bowlers is worryingly poor.

Brook plays in Division One and Pujara in Division Two, so it’s not the same.

Pitches this season has been really pattas Pujara getting 100's at SR of 80 should be enough evidence

Good innings from Harry Brook again. Helped Yorks bat out a draw in the Roses match. 8 innings so far this season and he is on 750+ runs already. :)

Why wait? — who else is there?

Exactly. Given that Root is nailed on at four, Bairstow at five (though they may use him to plug the hoke at three) and Stokes back at six, there are three top order positions available which nobody is really claiming.

But Brook can't open so the only position really available for him is at 5.
I like him as a player but he isn't an test match opener for English conditions.

First selection in the Test squad for England!

He may debut against New Zealand.

Well done Harry.

He's the best young talent I've seen come out of England for a long long time. He is eons ahead of average players like Haseeb, Zak, Pope.

If he doesn't become a bonafide superstar of the game, he would've done massive injustice to his talent.

He is proving me so wrong.
It seems like he has redeemed himself and it took him a while.
Hopefully he prioritise Test over T20 cricket.
He has all the shots in the book. He can have a successful long career for England.

James Robert what place do you see him batting at? Plus should England make use of Ben Compton's appetite for runs at Test level before he runs into green tops and inevitably stutters in County Circuit?

I would put him at #5, though that means Bairstow at #3 which means sacrificing a strength to plug a hole. We have not had an effective #3 since Trott, nearly a decade ago.

Not really up on Ben Compton, though it’s good to see that great name continue.

JYB should be the WK/Bat. It was and remains a shocking decision not to give him the gloves and bat at 7

Bairstow hasn't really been good enough at no.3 when he was given a chance at no.3.

I like the look of Compton though.

60 not out from only 27 balls tonight in the T20 Blast against Worcestershire.

Incredible form!

Harry is in astonishing form.

For England, part of me says pick him, but the other side of me thinks we should wait and not spoil him.

Let him enjoy this run-fest period as a quality young player for a bit longer — before he gets tested at the far higher level of Test cricket and (potentially) comes tumbling back down to Earth. :))

Brook smashing it yet again!

28* (16) against Lancs so far.

going to the lords test, hope i get to see him bat, cant rem being excited abt an england test talent like him since KP days.

53* (36) and batting in a different universe.

This guy is a serious talent.

Michael Atherton believes Harry Brook should make his Test debut against New Zealand next week, saying the Yorkshire batter "will never be in better form".

Brook has passed fifty in 10 of his 11 innings across all competitions so far this season - eight times in the County Championship, where he is averaging 140, and twice in two games in the Vitality Blast.

The 23-year-old looks unlikely to make his Test bow at Lord's with new captain Ben Stokes and former skipper Joe Root set to be joined in the middle order by Ollie Pope and Jonny Bairstow.

But Sky Sports pundit and former England captain Atherton says he would select Brook - ahead of Yorkshire team-mate Bairstow - in the No 5 spot.

After watching Brook hit 72 from 48 balls against Lancashire in the tied Roses clash in the Blast, Atherton "I'd have to pick him ahead of Bairstow at No 5, just because of the form he is in. His first-class form has been exceptional.

"When you pick a young player is so important and he will never be in better form than this, never be more confident than this. He may go off the boil at some stage and then if you put him in the team it might be slightly unfortunate.

"Bairstow was the success story of the winter. He has been away in the IPL but in the Test stuff before that he had two hundreds, one in the West Indies and another at the end of the Ashes.

"It's not absolutely straightforward and the slight conundrum has been created by the fact Stokes has said Root will go back to No 4 and they want Pope to have a dash at No 3.

"I don't think England will slip Brook in that middle order but the temptation must be there - it must be so tempting to play a young man who is in that kind of form."

When asked what stands out about his Yorkshire team-mate Brook, Root told Sky Sports: "How level he has been. I think that's a really good trait to have at such a young age.

"He has got great work ethic and thinks a lot about the game. He loves batting and has made the most of the opportunities he has had.

"He has not got bored or gone away from what has worked for him. If he can stay level, he will be a hell of a player.

Good points from Atherton. But England could still have Bairstow and Brook in the same team.

He's got a lot of time to play his shots and that's always the sign of a class player.

Oozes class this lad and has a very bright future.

Could be Test debut for him on Thursday.

If not — will definitely be soon.

No debut this week for Harry then.

Likely to be 12th man.

Good experience for him to be in and around the England setup though.

Harry Brook on strike... Yorkshire vs Nottinghamshire

GcaGR8D.png

Harry Brook got a score for Yorkshire again today. He is now banging down the door for a place in the England Test side, with Crawley and Bairstow both looking very scratchy and vulnerable. (England don’t even need Jonny’s reserve wicketkeeping anymore because Pope can take the gloves as a substitute if needed.)

Harry Brook continued his extraordinary County Championship season with his ninth score over 50 as Yorkshire piled on the runs on a flat Ageas Bowl pitch.

Brook, who was released from the England Test squad to play in this match, has played 10 red-ball innings in 2022 with a lowest score of 41 and three centuries.

Against Hampshire, he showed his class with 76 and Yorkshire reached the close of play on 324-5.

77* today, captain for the day and (again) he is carrying Yorkshire on his back with a superb batting display.

Don’t know where Brook fits into the England team at the moment, otherwise he would be in. The middle order is batting far too well in Test cricket for anyone to be dropped.

It’s a bit rough on Brook as a year ago the middle order was melt city, but His Holiness has just secured a run at #3, Root and the skipper are undroppable and Bairstow has hit three tone in six tests.

Unless there is an injury there is no way in for him.

At the moment the only thing that could work in a specific Test match / or certain conditions is going in with 4 bowlers including Stokes.

e.g. on a genuine greentop where we don’t require a spin bowler & need to beef up our batting — Anderson, Broad, Potts, and Stokes would be the bowlers, whom in favourable conditions for them would be more than capable of taking twenty poles.

In such a match, Brook could slot in at 5 after Pontiff and Rooooot; then Bairstow 6, Stokes 7, Foakes 8.

I do think it’s unlikely in the near future because this is proving to be a batting friendly summer.

Brook is waiting for an injury or a suspension.

orkshire County Cricket Club is delighted to announce that Harry Brook and Dom Leech have signed new contracts with the Club.

Batter Brook, who debuted for Yorkshire in 2016, has signed a five-year extension keeping him at the Club until at least October 2027. The Keighley-born 23-year-old has enjoyed a stellar year to date having scored a remarkable 926 runs in 11 County Championship innings, alongside 282 Vitality Blast runs at an average of 47. His red-hot form was recognised with a call-up to the England Test squad for the New Zealand series.

Fast bowler Leech will remain with the Club until at least October 2024. Having debuted in 2020, the 21-year-old from Middlesbrough has gone on to impress in a handful of first-team appearances.

Interim Managing Director of Cricket Darren Gough said: “We are absolutely delighted that they have both committed their futures to the Club.

“Harry is an incredible talent and the performances he has put in so far this year have been nothing short of incredible, rightfully earning him an England call-up.

“It’s clear that he has a very bright future and it’s great for the Club to be able to secure his services for a long period of time.
“Dom is a highly regarded seamer and we are really excited to see what he can achieve over the next few years.

“Like most young fast bowlers, he’s had to cope with a few injuries in the early-stage of his career but we are confident he has all of the attributes to be a brilliant cricketer for Yorkshire.”

Commenting on the new deal, Harry Brook said: “I’m delighted to extend my contract with Yorkshire and hope I can contribute to a lot of wins in the coming years.

“Yorkshire is my home Club and I’d love nothing more than to help bring some silverware to Headingley.”

Leech said: “I’m really pleased to have signed a contract extension with Yorkshire and committed my future to the Club.

“I’ve had a great taste of first team cricket over the last few years and want to push for a permanent spot in all squads.

“I’ve enjoyed working with our new coaching staff and look forward to continuing to develop my relationships with them.

“It’s great that the Club have recognised my performances and rewarded me with this contract. Hopefully I can play my part in the side winning some trophies.”

Great coup from YCCC to get Brook on a 5 year contract with Yorkshire. Over time, he will become a key England player and the club’s prize asset.

After all of the firings, resignations, racism allegations, general shame and disgrace, and David Willey leaving under disappointing circumstances, this announcement represents the first unambiguously positive news coming out of YCCC in quite a while.

35 for Harry today in a comfortable run chase for Yorkshire.

Played better than most of the senior batsmen today.

33 off 19 balls for Harry tonight, with two sixes.

A calm finisher’s innings, as he helps Northern Superchargers to a victory in the Hundred.
