[PICTURES/VIDEOS] How does Virat Kohli get away with these sorts of performances?

Jokes aside, whole world is making fun of the proclaimed "King" now
Tbf, it is somewhat unfair. Kohli is in the same realm as Sachin, Pointing and Lara as odi batters.

It's just his ego isn't letting him retire. But Indian fans should have more respect towards a guy who is easily their best or 2nd best odi batsmen of all time next to Sachin.

Virat Kohli's record vs leg-spin in ODIs since last year

23 balls
12 runs
3 dismissals
4.00 average
52.2 strike rate

No bowler has dismissed Virat Kohli more times in international cricket than Adil Rashid. 11 times today.

Virat gone for well made 52. Finally a fifty for Kohli

Harbhajan Singh, speaking to local media, explains why Virat Kohli struggles against spin:

"I certainly believe that slower bowlers, leggies, have given him some sort of discomfort. He needs to come up with some plan against leggies. He needs to find a way to convert those dot balls into singles. I think when the form is not there, this is exactly what happens-you tend to take a lot more time, you tend to take more time to settle into an innings. That's exactly what is happening with Virat Kohli. Cricket is a great leveller. It goes on to show that no matter how big you are, your reputation will not count. But what you do there, the intent that you show, will take you forward."

"I think he is getting stuck because he is taking a bit more time. I believe he needs to back himself and play like Virat Kohli. He has got nothing to prove to anyone. He is a champion player. Even if he retires today, he would go on to be recognised as a legend who served India really well. I believe he just needs to enjoy his game, take the extra baggage out of his mind, and bat freely."

"Today (Thursday) was the opportunity, I believe, where he probably wanted to get back to form, wanted to face many more balls, and get ready for the Pakistan game."

"That didn't happen. It was a very slow innings. Against the spinners, we have seen him unable to rotate strike. But we saw Virat Kohli playing lofted cover drives and sweep shots in Australia. He needs to back himself to showcase what Virat Kohli was. He can still do the job. It's just a mental thing. Only he can help himself to get out of this. The team needs him to score runs."

"He needs to do it from the next game. Imagine, if India play the semi-final against Afghanistan, he might have to face three quality spinners. So it's time to work on it."

"He needs to start backing himself. People are there to watch him, go out there and enjoy."

For how long this guy will be carried at the cost of team's interests?

Former India captain and ex-BCCI President Sourav Ganguly spoke at an event:

“Virat will be able to sort this problem against spinners. He must find a way. One must remember he has scored 81 international hundreds, many of them against spinners. It was probably just one of those days.”

Sanjay Manjrekar believes Virat Kohli is struggling with confidence, and his inability to play big shots like Shubman Gill is adding to his challenges while speaking on a sports media outlet:

“He still wants to show that he’s up there for a fight, and I am starting to see maybe there’s a little bit of bravado as well, and why not? You can’t be revealing what’s inside you. Virat doesn’t have the big game anymore. We’ve seen on occasion him playing the big shot, but he can’t hit at will like a Shubman Gill does."

“What happened is, after that hundred in Australia (in Perth in the first Test), had he just carried on that form… you know it’s a confidence thing as well – when you’re out of form and you don’t have confidence you suddenly don’t quite get that power and the courage to hit the big shots. At this stage, I’m looking at him and feel that he is down on confidence."

“When he comes into bat, the spinners come on. And once the spinners know that you’re not going to be hitting them for three sixes straight down the pitch or over midwicket… they bowl the kind of deliveries they’ll get wickets off because they don’t fear backlash from the batter. So he’s cornered in a way. What he needed in this tournament are flat pitches like the ones in Pakistan. But if he finds a way out of this and he finds another peak of Virat Kohli, that will tell you a lot more about the man and how he’s built."

The entire stadium wanted Virat to complete his hundred, and the atmosphere turned into panic mode when Pandya started hitting boundaries. You don't need any PR when an entire country is behind you. This speaks volumes about what a great cricketer he is.

Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar revealed the technical and mindset changes Virat Kohli made after the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy while speaking on a local sports channel:

“He (Kohli) waited for the ball to come to him. He really wasn’t on the front foot all the time. He was willing to cover the infield as well. Against spin, what was good to see in the first half of his innings was that he was playing a lot off the back foot. Then once he got that confidence, he started coming forward. So, starting off the back foot and then gradually going on to the front foot was the plan."

“When Kohli was in form, his bat used to come from the second or third slip area, allowing him to play more controlled shots. He is a guy who leaves no stone unturned as far as preparation is concerned. He knew that he had to step up (after the Australia tour). He brought that intensity to his game, and one could see it in his body language."

“What he did well was to watch the ball till the end, till it made contact with his bat. That’s something we discussed – to watch the ball like a hawk and give more than 100% to each delivery. He is hungry for runs and going by the innings he played (against Pakistan), he can easily play for another 3-4 years in international cricket."

Virat Kohli joined legendary Sachin Tendulkar in an elite list of cricketers today during a Champions Trophy match against New Zealand, by becoming the seventh Indian and 22nd player overall in the world to play 300 ODIs.

300 ODI???? NO joke...

Interesting.. He was scoring 100s for fun till the number 70 and suddenly switched off.

If Pakistan of Australia had one decent spinner he wouldn't have scored anything in those matches either.

Even though others bottled it against the teams you mentioned, Kohli led the team to the final. :dhoni
Without Kohli and Iyer’s performances in tough situations during those matches, we would have lost.

True that he contributed but we won those matches easily and had batting to spare.

On the other hand if Rohit had been captain long ago, instead of Kohli we would have won way more cups. Ifs and buts

Virat Kohli was filled with emotions after winning the Champions Trophy for the second time in his illustrious career, he said:

"It's been amazing, we wanted to bounce back after a tough Australia tour. Lovely playing with a bunch of amazing youngsters. They're stepping up and taking India in the right direction. After playing for so long, you look forward to playing under pressure. To win titles, the whole team has to step up in different games. People have played such impactful knocks and had spells, that collective effort is what has done it for us,"

"I try to speak to these guys, try to share my experience, tell them how I've played for so long. When you leave, you want to leave in a better position. So many impactful knocks Gill, Shreyas, Rahul, all have played. The team is in good hands,"

"We've always been in awe of what NZ can do with limited number of players. They come in with a set plan. Every fielder knows where the bowler will bowl. They have immense belief in their skills, best fielding side. Huge shoutout to them. Sad to see a very good friend (Kane Williamson) on the losing side, only love between us,"

Kohli won multiple ICC trophies and performed in several crunch games. Finals are part of the event, but not the one and only game.

Winning trophies is byond stats.
I second you. I do not understand why a semis( kohli scored against AUS in semis) is a lesser impact knock considering unless you win in semis, no team can reach finals.

People call him choker or label him so. His knockout record is good.

He should retire from Test cricket and continue playing ODI cricket. He is super fit and a lot better than many others in the team for the ODI format.

Why on earth would he only play odi cricket in an era where odi cricket is dying and is hardly played?

I recommended it for Babar as Pakistan is irrelevant but why would the big 3 in cricket follow such a trend?
