INDIA Bloc Doing "Mujra" For Its "Vote Bank": PM Modi At Bihar Rally

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today vowed to thwart alleged attempts to rob Dalits and backward classes of reservations by the INDIA bloc which he accused of "enslavement" and performing "mujra" for Muslim vote bank.

PM Modi launched the blistering attack at a rally in the Pataliputra Lok Sabha constituency, about 40 kms from Patna, where he also blamed parties like RJD and Congress for SCs, STs and OBCs "being deprived of quotas" in minority institutions.

"Bihar is the land which has given a new direction to the fight for social justice. I wish to declare on its soil that I will foil the plans of INDIA bloc to rob SCs, STs and OBCs of their rights and divert these to Muslims. They may remain enslaved and perform 'mujra' to please their vote bank", said the PM.

He also alleged that the opposition alliance was banking on the support of those who were indulging in "vote jihad" and referred to the Calcutta High Court order that struck down the West Bengal government's decision to include a number of Muslim groups in the list of OBCs.

PM Modi was canvassing for two-term BJP MP Ram Kripal Yadav and remarked sarcastically "many people have such a quarrel with Lord Ram that they may frown upon even the name of Ram Kripal".

Referring to "Maner Ka laddoo", a renowned sweetmeat named after a nearby locality, PM Modi said at the rally, "Have these ready for June 04... Your vote is too significant. It is not just to elect your MP but to choose your PM".

The Lok Sabha election results will be out on June 4.

PM Modi also mocked RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, without mentioning him by name, saying "in the age of LED bulbs, they are moving around with a lantern that lit up only their house while keeping the entire Bihar in the dark".

Notably, Lalu Prasad Yadav's eldest daughter Misa Bharti is contesting from Patliputra for the third time in a row.

He added, "India needs a PM who can do justice to the country's might on the world stage. But INDIA bloc seems intent on playing musical chairs with the top post".

PM Modi said scions of families heading Congress, RJD, NCP, Samajwadi Party and others were all pining for brief stints as Prime Minister.

The PM also promised the people that his next five years in power would ensure faster development for Bihar with better electricity supply and more pucca houses even as he slammed the previous Congress-led UPA government for lacking the resolve to provide free foodgrains to the common people.

Mocking at the predictions of many pollsters who have forecast a dip in the NDA's tally, PM Modi said, "INDIA bloc has come up with its exit polls even before the elections conclude. Soon they might go back to crying hoarse on EVMs".

West Bengal records 79% voter turnout till 5 pm. West Bengal tops in all phases with high percentage of voter turnout. It seems ppls of West Bengal have voted against taana shahi leadership of Mamata Banerjee. Peoples of West Bengal are fed up of illegal Bangladesh migrants, ban of Hindu festivals, sandeshkhali rape case etc

Victory In Odisha, Andhra: Amit Shah's Prediction Ahead Of Last Poll Phase

The BJP will form governments in all three states having their assembly election along with the Lok Sabha polls, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has predicted days before the last phase of election. This will include a maiden majority in Odisha and a victory in Andhra Pradesh with ally Chandrababu Naidu, he told news agency Press Trust of India in an exclusive interview.

"We will surely cross 400 seats. We will also form governments in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh," he said.

Overall, the party would perform well in Opposition-rules states, Mr Shah said, attributing it to the performance of the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The BJP, he added, expects to win 75 seats in the 147-member Odisha assembly and 16-17 of the state's 21 Lok Sabha seats.

In Bengal it would win anywhere between 24 to 30 of 42 Lok Sabha seats. Its alliance will bag nearly 17 of 25 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh.

Mr Shah said people are angry with the Mamata Banerjee-led government over corruption, cow and coal smuggling and infiltration. Also, the Sandeshkhali row has made it clear to what extent she can "stoop in her appeasement politics he added.

In Tamil Nadu, it is " a very tight contest", Mr Shah said. "We have a new team. I will not make an estimate with figures. But our seats and vote share will increase and we will certainly lay a strong foundation in Tamil Nadu," he said.

As for Kerala, Mr Shah said the party can open its account there. "We are in a good position in three seats," he added.

The incident happened with maliwal was a shame for AAP, just imagine the plight of common female AAP party workers, who might be molested or taped inside AAP offices
Oh really? Does it look like that in the following video? 😆 :inti

For this I blame ppls of 2 states I.e. Delhi and Punjab who were run after freebies offered by AAP. In return what Delhiites got? A sharab ghotala… Also ppls don’t understand who will pay for freebies? It’s taxpayer and not Kejriwal and his ministers. Kejriwal used same freebies technology in Gujarat assembly election, but ppls of Gujarat were very wise, they not fall for such plot. Instead they throw Kejriwal out of Gujarat

It's hard to take sides right now. The cell phone videos that has come to light does Swati Maliwal no good. It's never good to go by just one side of the story. I'd wait and see how the story develops.

Oh, here we go again with the freebies. How many people received free rations in India under the BJP? Do you know about the freebies given to the people of Madhya Pradesh? During the last elections, Mr. 'Rinkiya ke Papa' promised 300 free units of electricity in Delhi, yet people still voted for AAP. You're blaming the people of Delhi and Punjab for the liquor scandal, but do you know how many liquor shops there are in Haryana, a BJP-controlled state? 😆 :inti

Her case is pretty weak, and the provocative language she used in those leaked videos isn't helping her either. :inti

Here's what UP CM Yogi Adityanath said attacking INDIA alliance parties on religion-based reservation:

"Religion-based reservation is unconstitutional. BR Ambedkar had opposed it. Despite that, there is a race among INDI alliance parties to give reservation to Muslims. Congress constituted Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission to give reservation to Muslims by cutting the quota of OBCs. They also constituted committee in leadership of Justice Rajendra Sachar to change the OBC quota. Congress has had a history of it. It was attempted by Karnataka, WB governments. We thank Calcutta HC for calling religion-based reservation unconstitutional."

He said the truth. Courts have repeatedly struck down religion based reservations.

Free ration for weaker session or below poverty line ppls is ok…. And it running for so many years… liquor scam is done by AAP in Delhi and not in Harayana.. update yourself

How many people are below the poverty line? And how many people took free ration according to BJP? Hopefully, you will not get confused like his gentleman in the video. 😆

It seems you overlooked the freebies offered in Madhya Pradesh. :kp

You also ignored my question regarding Haryana. Let me ask again. How many liquor shops are there in Haryana, a BJP-controlled state? :inti

Majority posters here are BJP haters, but in poll, they all r votes for BJP….. pls. Keep going
The so-called BJP haters who keep spilling vitriol over Modi on cyberspace everyday are actually the BJPs biggest supporters. They know that they will completely lose their relevance and their online popularity will crumble to dust if Modi loses the election.

It's possibly what many of the so-called 'andhbhakts' are waiting for. If Modi loses the election, they'll up the ante against whoever comes to power and get online fame for themselves. Same game, different target.
But Modi's critics will have to start job hunting. :inti

Why is the outgoing PM always defaming Bengal?: Jairam Ramesh

On a day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi campaigned in West Bengal for the last phase of polling, the Congress questioned why MGNREGA funds for the State are frozen for almost three years.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh asked why Mr. Modi is campaigning without showing sensitivity to the people of Bengal by addressing the damage caused by Cyclone Remal instead.

“Today’s questions for the outgoing Prime Minister in West Bengal - Does the PM value Bengali lives? Why is the outgoing PM always defaming Bengal? Why have MGNREGA funds for Bengal remained frozen for almost 3 years?” he asked.

Mr. Ramesh said in April 2021, as India was facing a devastating second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the prime minister was found “recklessly campaigning” for the West Bengal assembly elections rather than leading the country’s response to the pandemic. “Today, he shows this same insensitivity again, choosing to blow his communal dog whistles rather than address the damage caused by Cyclone Remal, which has killed at least 6 people and damaged nearly 30,000 houses. Does he regard Bengali lives as being so dispensable,” he asked in a post on X.

The Indian state holding the key to PM Modi's re-election

As India votes to elect a new government, all eyes are on the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, commonly known by its initials UP.

Spread over an area roughly the size of Britain, the state packs in nearly four times as many people. With an estimated 257 million people, it is India’s most populous state and would be the fifth largest in the world if it was an independent country after India, China, United States and Indonesia and ahead of Pakistan or Brazil.

The state is among just three in India which are voting in all seven phases in the elections which are spread over 44 days. (Voting ends on 1 June and results will be announced on 4 June.)

So, it’s no surprise that UP - which elects 80 MPs in the 543-member lower house of parliament (the Lok Sabha) - is considered key to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s re-election bid as he seeks to return for a third consecutive term.

“It’s commonly said that ‘the way to Delhi is through UP’ and a party that does well in the state generally goes on to rule India,” says Sharat Pradhan, senior journalist in the state capital, Lucknow.

“Eight of India’s former prime ministers,” he adds, “have represented the state and in 2014, when Mr Modi - originally from the western state of Gujarat – made his debut as an MP, he too chose UP.”

Mr Modi held his seat in the ancient city of Varanasi in 2019 and aims to do so again this year.

So, Mr Modi has been on a whirlwind tour of the state, doing roadshows and addressing rallies – sometimes up to seven in a single day – to convince voters to support his party. He’s set his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a goal of 370 seats - a party needs 272 to win.

In 2014, BJP won 71 seats in the state and in 2019, it got 62. This time, party leaders say, they’re aiming for 70 plus – even all of its 80 seats.

The maths, the opposition Congress party’s Gaurav Kapoor says, is simple – “a party that wins 70 seats here needs just 202 more to form a government”.

Earlier this month, when Mr Modi arrived in the city to file his nomination, accompanied by the state’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a saffron-robed Hindu monk-turned-politician, thousands of supporters gathered to cheer them on.

A truck painted saffron – the colour associated with the BJP – and decorated with marigold flowers carried them as their cavalcade made its way through the narrow streets of the ancient city.

Mr Modi waved and held up a replica of the lotus flower – his party symbol – as men and women dressed in saffron clothes and caps raised slogans in support.

It’s not just the BJP that’s eyeing the state regarded as “the biggest prize” in Indian election. The Congress, which was dominant in the state for four decades until it was edged out by local parties in 1991, is fighting here in alliance with the regional Samajwadi Party (SP). The alliance has also claimed that “we are winning 79 seats and have a fight in one”.

Counting of votes on 4 June is likely to show claims on both sides are exaggerated, but analysts point out that all the elections in the past 10 years in the state have gone in the BJP’s favour. And the upbeat mood at Mr Modi’s roadshow reflected that self-assurance.

Most Varanasi residents in the crowd talked about the transformation their city has undergone in the past decade – the new highways that have been built, the expansion of the Kashi-Vishwanath temple and the spruced-up banks of the river Ganges.

Watching Mr Modi’s procession from his shop along the route of the roadshow, Ambrish Mittal, a chemist, says “the city roads are cleaner and the long power cuts that plunged the city into darkness for hours are history”.

But despite its political significance, UP remains among India's poorest states - though there have been some positive changes in the past few years.

Government data shows that millions more now have electricity, access to toilets and are using clean fuel compared to five years ago.

But UP still has the largest concentration of poor in the world – with 23% of its population recorded as multidimensionally poor even after tens of millions have been lifted out of poverty.

The state also records tens of thousands of violent crimes against women every year and continues to make headlines for cases where the accused are politically influential men.

And although these ills have plagued the state historically, opposition parties have seized upon them and been raising them at their campaign rallies as the BJP has been in power nationally for a decade and also ruled UP for seven years now.

The huge turnout at their meetings, opposition leaders say, reflects voter disenchantment with the BJP.

“Until a few weeks back, election in the state had seemed like a one-sided contest with the odds stacked against us,” says Abhishek Yadav, a Samajwadi Party youth wing leader and a star campaigner for his party.

But he feels that the opposition's campaign has gathered pace as unemployment and price rise have become main issues.

The BJP claims that a lot of investment now started coming into the state and there’s been an industrial revival, but Gaurav Kapoor of the Congress says the government’s failure to establish any new industry or create jobs has alienated many voters.

“Temples are the new industry for Mr Modi. Post-Covid, the only business that has progressed in the state are hotels and restaurants and other things to do with religious tourism. But the youth want jobs.”

Ashwani Shahi of the BJP, however, blames opposition parties for everything that’s wrong with the state.

“In 2017 when the BJP won UP, we inherited a state which was poor, had high rates of illiteracy and unemployment. We have started work to change that.

“But It takes time to uplift people from poverty. I think By 2029, we’ll be able to take 90% people out of poverty.”

Mr Shahi admits there is some anti-incumbency, but the BJP will still romp home in Uttar Pradesh – and the rest of India - because of Mr Modi.

"KCR Wanted To Arrest BJP's BL Santosh, Force BJP To...": Big Claim In Phone Tapping Row

Inquiries into the Telangana phone-snooping row have thrown up yet another explosive allegation - that then Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao wanted to arrest senior BJP leader BL Santosh to force a "compromise" and "get rid of the Enforcement Directorate case" against his daughter K Kavitha.

The allegations were made by ex-Deputy Commissioner of Police P Radhakrishna Rao in a six-page confession that contained damning claims, including one that said he "arm-twisted certain persons creating trouble" for the former Chief Minister and/or his family members and the ruling party.

Mr Rao - arrested in March from his Banjara Hills Hyderabad home - also claimed he had, on orders from the Chief Minister or his inside circle, been active in "suppressing dissent or protest or agitation against the BRS (then called the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, or TRS) and/or its government..."

The former senior cop, who was also a member of the Hyderabad City Task Force, said KCR, whom he called "peddayana" or his "elder", would get "irritated by minor dissent or criticism".

"Get Rid Of Case Against Kavitha"

But perhaps the biggest flashpoint was an elaborate plot-and-counterplot drama involving the BRS' Tandur lawmaker Panjugula "Pilot" Rohith Reddy, an alleged poaching attempt by the BJP, and the former Chief Minister scheming to entrap his rivals and force dropping of charges against Ms Kavitha.

"... sometime in the last week of October (before the 2023 Assembly election), one day Prabhakar Rao told me Chief Minister had information from an MLA that some persons claiming to be influential in BJP (were) asking him to leave BRS and join (the rival party)," Mr Rao said in his letter.

T Prabhakar Rao was then the chief of the Special Intelligence Branch and reportedly tasked by the former Chief Minister with running the allegedly illegal phone tapping operation. Prabhakar Rao - expected to return shortly from the United States - has been named as 'Accused No 1' in the case.

"KCR, thinking to use this to corner the BJP, had asked the Special Intelligence Branch to put surveillance over these private persons (reportedly from the saffron party) and the MLA..."

The result was an audio tape that led to the arrest of three people after a 'sting op' at the farmhouse on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The BJP firmly denied it tried to poach any BRS legislators.

A SIT, or special investigative team, was set up to 'investigate' the BRS' poaching claims, and it was this team that K Chandrasekhar Rao reportedly wanted to use to arrest the BJP's BL Santosh.

Mr Santosh was named as an accused in the case but, after a stay from the Telangana High Court, authorities confirmed in November 2022 he would not be questioned in this matter.

However, the unfortunate, "inefficiency of some Cyberabad police officers" put a premature end to this operation. "The case went to the High Court, where do-not-arrest orders were issued and the case was transferred to the CBI (which reports to the centre)... pedayanna KCR was very angry."

The High Court also disbanded the SIT, arguing it could not ensure an "impartial" probe.

BJP Reacts To Claims

The BJP's Telangana leader N Ramchander Rao has hailed Mr Rao's claims, declaring it has reinforced what the party said earlier - that there was a political conspiracy to trap leaders like BL Santosh.

"KCR tried to create a political conspiracy... we maintained there was no attempt by BJP to poach MLAs," he told NDTV, and also criticised the alleged phone tapping as "unprecedented" in India.

'Raid' On Congress Poll Strategist

Meanwhile, Mr Rao also made sensational claims about 'raids' against Sunil Kanugolu, who orchestrated the Congress' thumping win over the BJP in the 2023 Karnataka Assembly election.

Months before that election, in December, Mr Kanugolu reportedly made posts criticising KCR and his party. These posts prompted illegal snooping and a raid on his Cyberabad office.

"I do not know what happened to that case... or electronic gadgets seized... but it became a big issue, saying the raid was conducted to obstruct the work of Congress party leaders by illegally seizing devices to get confidential data related to the party and its leaders and supporters," Mr Rao claimed.

What Is Telangana Phone Tapping Case?

The Telangana phone tapping case involves the alleged gathering of electronic data not just for political intelligence, but to blackmail leaders, and even private companies and Tollywood celebrities.

Congress leader N Uttam Kumar Reddy told NDTV all this happened with the knowledge of the leadership of the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government. "It is only a matter of time before they (BRS) leaders come under the ambit of the investigation," Mr Reddy said.

Kangana about feku,

Modiji” has brought back the lost glory of the country in the last ten years, the previous governments “did not even know where the country’s borders were… (Modi) found them out through satellites”, she claims.

Didn't think it was humanely possible to surpass feku in being out and out illiterate. But our dear Kangana has made that possible.

On Arvind Kejriwal's Bail Plea, Probe Agency's "Health Doesn't Hinder" Jab

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal - on interim bail following his arrest in the alleged liquor policy scam - began his battle for regular bail Thursday afternoon in the city's Rouse Avenue Court.

He has filed two pleas - for normal bail, and to extend the Supreme Court-ordered interim bail by a week, citing a battery of pending medical tests over potential "health complications" from his diabetes.

In the brief hearing that followed the Enforcement Directorate opposed both pleas. The federal agency sought at least two days to respond and took a swipe at the bail plea on health grounds.

The ED pointed out Mr Kejriwal - whom party sources told NDTV has led 67 rallies or roadshows and given 30 interviews since his release on interim bail - seemed to be in fine condition. The agency also seemed irked by the AAP leader filing his pleas a little over 48 hours before the bail period expires.

"He is not in custody... he is, today, in Punjab campaigning. His health does not hinder him from campaigning... and he moves bail on the last date so we get very little time (to argue)," the ED said.

"His conduct doesn't entitle him for any orders today," Additional Solicitor-General SV Raju, appearing for the central agency, told the court, which gave the ED time till 2 pm Saturday to respond.

The Rouse Avenue Court is also due to rule (on June 4, on counting day) on a point of cognisance on the ED's supplementary chargesheet, which is linked to an associated money laundering case.

Mr Kejriwal has been singularly active since his release from jail, leading his party's charge (and contributing to that of the Congress-led INDIA bloc) ahead of polling in Delhi and Punjab.

These are the states where the AAP is in power and send a combined 20 MPs to the Lok Sabha, but the curious case of the alliance with the Congress remains a point of interest. The parties are contesting together in Delhi but as rivals in Punjab, where state leaders have taken regular potshots at each other.

Meanwhile, Mr Kejriwal's regular release plea today is key since it is the first time he has actively applied for bail. His interim release this month was ordered by the Supreme Court as it was hearing his challenge to the ED's arrest. The court recognised him as an elected leader and not a habitual offender.

Mr Kejriwal's interim bail expires June 1, or on completion of polling for the final phase of the Lok Sabha election. He is to report to Delhi's Tihar Jail authorities 24 hours after that, i.e., June 2. On Tuesday he asked the top court to extend his freedom by seven days so he could finish the tests.

However, the court refused an urgent hearing and also seemed put out by the timing.

It was pointed out the plea could have been filed last week, when Justice Datta - part of the bench that granted interim bail - was hearing cases. "Why did you not mention this (then)...?" the court asked.

Mr Kejriwal was, though, given leave to move the lower court at this time, which he did this afternoon.

In earlier arguments Mr Kejriwal had underlined the row between himself and jail authorities over the supply of insulin. His AAP had claimed he was deliberately deprived of the "life-saving" drug.

That row also reached the courts after Arvind Kejriwal criticised Tihar jail and ED officials for being "petty" and "politicising" his well-being. The probe agency responded by claiming the Chief Minister had deliberately consumed foods high in sugar - like mangoes and toffees, in alleged violation of a prescribed diet chart - to place his health at risk and establish grounds for medical bail.

"My health condition is due partly to the insensitive behaviour of the prison authorities. One more week of bail will allow me to take stock of (possible) health complications," he had argued.

Got to go read it yourself. Not spoon feeding you. You have the know how to post the silly YouTube videos constantly- so you can go find this as well. It's the concept I am referring to. Why was Feoze Ghandy and not feroze Khan if you insist rechristened to Feroze Gandhi? Why the shame in using the Ghandy name instead? Why run away from it? Because of the negative connotations. Ghandy is a parsi name and lot of folks assume Parsis as some form of muslims and to avoid that they conveniently used the name Gandhi instead. How shameless. So why not be called Indira Ghandy??

The family who is the champion of muslim minorities in Ind wanted to avoud using a name that sounded muslim- what a bunch of hypocrites. Sonia amma gandhi conveniently left out her italian last name but priyanka still calls her priyanka "Gandhi " vadra still using the gandhi name. If there is a feku family in imd - it is this pappu ghandy family.. and also no one is running away from here - your silly tangein kamprein and all that nonsense. Just because someone doesn't respond to you in a few hours, no one " ran" away. And our responses take time because they are not your silly haha heelhe emojis with no substance or matter..

Does VK Pandian Take Decisions On His Behalf? Naveen Patnaik's Reply

A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged a "sudden deterioration" in Naveen Patnaik's health condition, the Odisha Chief Minister today said he is "very well" and hopes to "continue to serve the people of my state".
The Biju Janata Dal chief, the second longest-serving chief minister of the country, was speaking to news agency ANI ahead of the final phase of polling in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls. The state polls in Odisha are being held alongside the general election.

A series of social media videos purportedly showing Mr Patnaik in a frail condition had prompted the BJP to question his health. In a rally at Odisha's Balasore, the Prime Minister hinted at a "conspiracy" behind the "sudden deterioration" in the 77-year-old Chief Minister's health. "Is the lobby that is currently running the Patnaik government on his behalf responsible for it?" the Prime Minister said, adding that if the BJP comes to power in the eastern state, it will form a panel to probe this matter.

Soon after, Mr Patnaik responded, "Let me assure the PM that I am in perfect health and I have been campaigning in the state for the last month. He has stated publicly earlier that I am his good friend. All he had to do was pick up the telephone and ask me about my health. But a number of BJP people from Odisha and Delhi are spreading rumours about my health."

Asked about his remark in which he said that the Prime Minister could have just picked up the phone and checked on him, Mr Patnaik told ANI, "The PM has said in public meetings that I am a good friend of his. So wasn't it his duty, if he heard these rumours and was concerned, to have just picked up the telephone and asked me about them?"

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared a video of Mr Patnaik in which his hand appears to be shaking. Also seen in the video is VK Pandian, Mr Patnaik's long-term aide and a former IAS officer who has now joined BJD. The BJP has repeatedly targeted Mr Pandian, alleging that he is controlling the state government.

"This is a deeply distressing video. Shri VK Pandian ji is even controlling the hand movements of Shri Naveen Babu. I shudder to imagine the level of control a retired ex bureaucrat from Tamil Nadu is currently exercising over the future of Odisha!" Mr Sarma posted on X. Mr Patnaik responded, "I believe the BJP which is known to make non-issues into issues, are discussing my hands. This will certainly not work."

During the interview with ANI, Mr Patnaik was asked about allegations that Mr Pandian is his "gatekeeper" and takes decisions on the Chief Minister's behalf. "That is ridiculous and I have said this often before. It's an old allegation and it holds no weight," the veteran leader replied.

Odisha is among the BJP's key focus areas in this election, and party leaders have said they are confident of a good show in both the general election and state polls. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said their Odisha target is to win 17 out of 21 Lok Sabha seats in the state and 75 out of 147 Assembly seats. The BJD won 12 seats in the state in 2019, while the BJP bagged right. In fact, the two parties were expected to tie-up ahead of the polls, but the talks fell through.

What will happen to the 'andhbhakts' if Feku loses the election? They will disappear so completely that you won't be able to spot them even with binoculars. 😆 :inti
Nothing will happen unlike the congbhakts pappubhakts who will continue crying for the next 5 years. Congress will be never be a force.like before and thats the greatest achievement of bjp. Followed by the typical 😂

Indian shares fall for fifth session on weak global cues, election uncertainties

Indian shares fell for a fifth straight session on Thursday, pressured by weakness in global peers, while some investors trimmed positions ahead of federal election results. The NSE Nifty 50 closed down about 1% at 22,488 points, while the S&P BSE Sensex lost 0.9% to 73,885 points. The benchmark indexes saw their worst session in three weeks.

Asian stocks fell 1.3%, tracking the overnight drop on Wall Street on increasing bets that global interest rates would stay higher for longer. Investors are trimming their positions ahead of the election outcome as a precaution, said Deepak Jasani, head of retail research, HDFC Securities, adding that weakness in global markets was also weighing.

Retail and high net-worth investors trimmed their net long positions in Indian index futures by a sixth from mid-May to May 28, NSE data showed. Results for India's general elections will be counted on June 4. "The market is completely discounting the fact that the current government will stay. However, if the government is not going to make it to the majority, it will be completely catastrophic for the market" said Aishvarya Dadheech, founder and chief investment officer at Fident Asset Management.

Among sectors, the US interest rate-sensitive IT stocks fell 2.2%, seeing its worst intra-day percentage drop since April 16. The more domestically focused small-cap and mid-cap fell 1.6% and 1.3%, respectively. Bank stocks were lone sectoral gainers, rising 0.4% after S&P Global Ratings raised its outlook on six banks to "positive".

You changed the goalposts. I asked you about Rahul Khan, not Rahul Ghandy. Try again. It's been many days, but you'll achieve success one day. Quote me only when you have an answer. :inti

Congress Will Not Participate In Lok Sabha Exit Poll Debates, Says Pawan Khera

The Congress has decided not to participate in any Lok Sabha exit poll debates on the television channels and said it does not want to indulge in speculation and slugfest for TRP.

Congress spokesperson and media department chairperson Pawan Khera said the voters have cast their votes and their verdict has been secured.

"The results will be out on 4th June. Prior to that, we do not see any reason to indulge in speculation and slugfest for TRP," he said in a statement shared on X.

"The Indian National Congress will not participate in the debates on Exit Polls. The purpose of any debate should be to inform the people. We will happily partake in debates from 4th June onwards," Mr Khera said in a statement.

The decision was taken after consultations within the party, the sources said.

Lok Sabha Election 2024 : 'A farewell party,' BJP takes dig at INDIA bloc's meeting tomorrow

The campaigning for Phase 7 of the Lok Sabha elections concluded two days before the voting day, as citizens across 57 Lok Sabha constituencies in eight states and union territories prepared to cast their votes.

Polling is scheduled in all 13 seats of Punjab and four of Himachal Pradesh, 13 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, nine in West Bengal, eight in Bihar, six in Odisha and three seats in Jharkhand besides Chandigarh.

Voting is already over in 486 seats in 28 states and Union territories. The turnout in the first six phases was 66.14 per cent, 66.71, 65.68, 69.16, 62.2 and 63.36 per cent respectively.

The campaigning saw BJP leaders led by PM Narendra Modi accusing the Congress and the INDIA alliance of being corrupt, anti-Hindu and engaging in loot, appeasement and dynastic politics.

The Opposition parties have been claiming that the BJP is anti-farmer, anti-youth and will change and scrap the Constitution if they win the elections.

The counting of votes is scheduled for June 4.

Mallikarjun Kharge predicts 128 seats for Congress, backs Rahul Gandhi as PM face

As per the Congress chief, members of the party-led opposition INDIA bloc were successful in transferring their votes to each other.

The Congress party hopes to bag 128 seats in the Lok Sabha elections and is confident of stopping the BJP from winning a third consecutive term at the Centre, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said in a media interview, a day before Saturday's seventh and final round of polling.

“From the reports that we have received, we are sure that we will stop the BJP from returning to power. We believe that the Congress has already crossed the 100-seat mark and are hoping to win 128 seats,” Kharge told NDTV.

The senior leader also claimed that parties of the Congress-led opposition INDIA bloc were successful in transferring their votes to each other.

He also revealed what the INDIA parties will discuss in the meeting convened by him on Saturday.

“We have called the meeting to ensure that there is no meddling in the counting of votes. We will tell every leader how EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) tampering works and how to ensure that the tampering does not happen,” the Congress chief stated.

While the INDIA bloc has not projected a PM face against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kharge backed senior Congress member Rahul Gandhi, also a former head of the grand old party, for the country's top office.

“Rahul Gandhi is my choice as Prime Minister. He represents the youth, and the length and breadth of the nation,” Kharge, whose name was suggested for the PM's post by Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal before he himself shot down the proposal, said.

The counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections will be held on June 4. The Congress is looking to improve upon its tally of 44 seats in 2014 and 52 seats five years later. Both times, the BJP secured single-party majority, a feat it aims to achieve this year as well.

ELections coming to an end in India. BJP to win again???

India votes in final phase of elections as both Modi and Rahul Gandhi eye victory

India voted on Saturday in the final phase of a long-drawn general election, held in record summer heat in many parts, as both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his challengers said they would win the polls centred mostly on inequality and religion.

The seven-phase vote, in which nearly a billion people were eligible to cast their ballots, began on April 19 and will end with polling in the last 57 seats - including in Modi's constituency in the Hindu holy city of Varanasi.

More than 100 million people are registered to vote across eight states and federal territories on Saturday, including in the northern state of Punjab and the eastern states of Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha.

"Calling upon the voters to turnout in large numbers and vote," Modi said as polls opened. "Together, let's make our democracy more vibrant and participative."

Modi is seeking a rare, third straight term as prime minister as his Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) battles an opposition alliance of two dozen parties led by the Congress, and is widely expected to win a majority.

But he and his party have run into a spirited campaign by the opposition alliance called 'INDIA' or the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, sowing some doubt about whether Modi's expected victory would come easily.

Scorching summer temperatures with unusually high heatwaves have compounded voter fatigue in the majority-Hindu country of 1.4 billion people, where unemployment and inflation are the main concerns for voters.

Nearly two dozen election officials died of suspected heatstroke in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh ahead of the vote on Friday, authorities said.

Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi have both predicted heavy defeat for each other and said their respective alliances were set to form the next government.

TV exit polls expected after the conclusion of the vote will project how well or poorly the parties are faring ahead of the results, due on June 4. Exit polls, however, have a patchy record in India and have been widely off the mark previously.

Modi began his re-election campaign by focusing on his achievements over the last 10 years but soon switched to mostly targeting the opposition by accusing them of favouring India's minority Muslims, comprising roughly 200 million of the population.

This change of tack, analysts said, was likely aimed at firing up his Hindu nationalist base after a low turnout in the first phase sparked concerns that BJP supporters were not voting in large numbers.

The opposition campaign has largely focused on affirmative action and saving the constitution from what they say is Modi's dictatorial rule.

‘It’s bye-bye to Modi this time’

People queued early outside polling stations in parts of Punjab state, where farmers had been protesting against the Modi government for minimum price guarantees for their crops.

Sarabjeet Kaur, 51, said she was dismayed by all the mainstream parties. “No party is bothered about us until elections arrive every five years.”

Harpreet Singh, 32, from Punjab’s Ferozepur said, “BJP will not be successful here. It’s bye-bye to Modi this time, Congress will be winning.”

Rahul Gandhi predicts a ‘new dawn’

The main opposition leader says he is “proud” of citizens who, despite high temperatures around the country, “have come out to vote to protect democracy and the constitution”.

“Even today, please come out in large numbers and give your vote as the ‘final blow’ to this government which has become a symbol of arrogance and tyranny,” the 53-year-old Congress leader posted on X.

“The sun of June 4 is going to bring a new dawn to the country,” he added, referring to the counting day.

India government agency spends millions to promote BJP

In November, as India’s election campaign was beginning to take shape, a catchphrase coined by Modi’s BJP gained traction. “Modi ki guarantee,” or Modi’s guarantee, was positioned as the prime minister’s personal promise to Indian voters.

In February, a TV advertisement showed an actor portraying a young entrepreneur reassuring his father about his career choice by telling him: “Papa, there is Modi’s guarantee. Modi ji has promised that he will make India one of the places with the most unicorn startups.” At the end, he says: “Thanks to Modi’s guarantee, every startup will start in India.”

Only these advertisements were not from the BJP. They were paid for by the Indian taxpayer and were part of a campaign rolled out by the state-run Central Bureau of Communication, whose job it is to publicise government schemes.

Modi’s BJP-led alliance projected to win parliamentary majority in India’s election, exit polls show

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi looks set for a rare third consecutive term in power, as local exit polls on Saturday suggested his Bharatiya Janata Party-led alliance will clinch a parliamentary majority.

According to an exit poll summary by local news channel NDTV, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance is expected to secure around 365 out of the 543 seats in the lower house of parliament. The party or coalition that wins at least 272 votes will form the government. Final results, expected on Tuesday, can diverge from exit poll projections.

If the exit polls, which have a patchy record, are confirmed, Modi will serve for another five years as the country’s prime minister — a position he has held since 2014.

India’s vote, the world’s largest democratic election polling just under a billion eligible voters, panned out in seven phases over the last six weeks and started April 19. There are a total of 543 contested seats in the lower house, and the party or coalition that wins at least 272 votes will form the government.

Under Modi’s decade-long reign, India has witnessed robust economic growth and a leap in its global reputation. Home to 1.4 billion people, India has one of the fastest growing economies in the world, which expanded 7.2% in the fiscal year 2022-2023 — achieving the second-highest growth rate among the G20 countries. The International Monetary Fund projects that India’s economy will grow 6.8% in 2024 and 6.5% in 2025, compared to China’s predicted growth of 5% in 2024 and 4.5% in 2025.

Some economists are even more optimistic. “The larger you grow, the more difficult it becomes to sustain a very high level of growth, but I think 7%-7.5% growth is possible to achieve,” Sujan Hajra, chief economist at Anand Rathi Share and Stock Brokers, told CNBC adding that improving infrastructure will be a big priority to boost growth.

“Soft infrastructure such as improving the country’s health care network will get significantly more emphasis this time around as compared to the hard infrastructure because a lot of work has already been done on that,” Harja said.

In the BJP’s manifesto for the upcoming term, Modi pledged that his government will propel India to become one of the world’s top three economies, aggressively fight poverty, open up new avenues for growth and tackle corruption.

Despite the optimism global leaders have about India’s growth trajectory under Modi’s rule, observers and critics have warned that the prime minister’s third term in office could bring about more signs of a democratic backslide. He has also been accused of hate speech for calling Muslims “infiltrators” at a rally days after voting began. The religious divide in India continued to be a hot button topic during the election, as well as unemployment.

According to a survey conducted by the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, unemployment was the top concern for 27% of the 10,000 surveyed. More than half (62%) of those surveyed also said it had become more difficult to find a job in the last five years during Modi’s second term.

Modi reportedly said in March that he was confident the BJP and the wider National Democratic Alliance would secure a total of 400 seats, but analysts say that’s less likely to matter as long as he is close to the 303 seats he clinched in 2019.

“It will still be a very positive outlook for the Indian equity market as we’ve seen the type of progress and efficiency that he’s been able to bring from a governance perspective since 2019 with 303 seats,” said Malcolm Dorson, a senior portfolio manager and head of emerging markets strategy at Global X ETFs.

BJP alliance to win a supermajority according to mutiple exit polls.

Nda should win 270 plus and form government and I will be happy to be proven wrong but 365 seems to be a stretch. That's more than 2019. I dont know- that looks optimistic considering anti incumbency will be in play. Let's wait and watch I guess

Hearing in exit polls BJP getting 23 out of the 28 seats in Karnataka which Congress only won 12 months ago.

If true, that is a huge change of events, just shows how pathetic Congress has been.

My family in Karnataka did tell me a few months ago that things went totally backwards after Congress won, Gas prices, fuel prices all shot up and it became a nightmare.
