He is a clown for a reason.Mark Taylor was ultimately removed and thrown out .cricket has changed a lot . Availability of more options now means every one has to be on toes including captain .it's a good thing in sub continent culture to demand results the captain.Taking out babar and rohit by respective boards during mid series is a wonderful precedents for both countries future.
 
Lol, Sidhu says it doesn't matter what Rohit's form is once he is the captain. Spoken like a typical ex cricketer from subcon.
 
Sometimes I think India ex cricketers and Pakistan ex cricketers are poles apart in one aspect, well most of them anyway.

India's ex cricketers won't bad mouth current Indian cricketers especially if they are under the pump, like Rohit & Kohli currently are unless and until you are Yograj Singh.

However, its totally opposite in Pakistan camp. With an honorable exception of a few, most of them love to get back at current crop of Pakistan cricketers whenever given a chance.
 
Rohit has destroyed his reputation and whatever little legacy he had built with his T20 WC win and the approach he had for the 2023 WC..

Expect a few brain dead cult fans and some PR bots , he has been bashed up pretty bad by everybody in the last 2-3 months and rightly so. His "it's okay to lose once in 12 years" was the final nail in the coffin.

Same thing happened to Dhoni (2017-19) but atleast he wasn't the captain of the side where he was being picked just for that.

India's incumbent captain Rohit Sharma cleared the air surrounding his ouster from the crucial SCG Test, stating that he 'stood down' after talking to the coach and selector.

"The chat I had with the coach and the selector was very simple - runs weren't coming from my bat, form isn't there and this is an important match so we need players in form. Collectively, the batters are not in form so you can't carry many out-of-form players in the team," Rohit told the broadcasters during the Lunch break on Day 2 of the SCG fixture.

"This simple aspect was running through my mind. That's why I felt I should tell this to the coach and selector... that I am thinking this way. They backed my decision. They said you've been playing for so many years, you know what to do and what not to do. For me it was a difficult decision, but it was also a sensible decision. I didn't want to think too far ahead. Rohit Sharma has opened up on his exit from the India Test XI for the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series

A defiant Rohit Sharma says he made the call to drop himself for the fifth Test in Sydney, insisting he was not axed by selectors.

Speaking for the first time since falling out of India's side for the decisive Test at the SCG, India's captain also rejected any suggestion his career was over.

India had refused to say whether Rohit would play the fifth Test against Australia in the lead up, after a series where he has scored 3, 6, 10, 3 and 9.

His replacement as captain, Jasprit Bumrah, stated at the toss Rohit had "opted out" of the match and decided to "rest" from the series decider.

That was largely met with cynicism, given India must win in Sydney to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

But speaking at lunch on day two and with India fighting to stay in the Test, Rohit was insistent he had initiated the conversation with selectors.

"I had a chat with the coach and the selector was very simple," Rohit said on Star Sports coverage of the fifth Test.

"I am not making runs at the moment. I am not in form and it's an important game. We need an in-form player.

"Our batting order isn't in form at the moment. So out-of-form players can't carry the team at the moment.

"This was the simple thing in my mind. It was my understanding that I should tell the coach and the selector and they backed my call."

Rohit's absence has prompted questions over whether he will retire after the Sydney Test, with a battle ahead to break back into the team.

The 37-year-old has played 67 Tests for India, and led the team since 2022.

But across a miserable eight-Test run against Bangladesh, New Zealand and Australia in recent months, he has scored 164 runs at an average of 10.93

Rohit insisted he had not yet made the call to walk away.

"This is not a decision of retirement. I am not moving away from this game," Rohit said.

"But I took a decision to step away from this game because I was not able to score runs with the bat.

"There is no guarantee that I will score runs two or five months from now. I have seen a lot of cricket, every minute, every second and everyday life changes.

"I believe that things will change but at the same time I have to be realistic as well.

"People sitting in the commentary box, or writing with a laptop in their hands, will not decide how my life goes."

The Indian selection committee is expected to meet in a couple of days to finalise the squads for the upcoming white-ball matches against England at home and the Champions Trophy. It’s likely that Rohit Sharma will be remain India ODI captain for the ICC event scheduled for next month.

As per reports, Rohit’s dipping numbers in Test cricket will have no bearing on his ODI future and he will be announced as the captain whenever the India squads are named for the three-match ODI series against England at home and the Champions Trophy.

In the lead up to the marquee tournament, India will host England for a five-match T20I series followed by three ODIs.

It is disgusting to see how selectors don't do their job. It is not government job. You decide the selection based on the output. One might say it is a different format. But one could easily see his reflexes and Kohli's reflexes are gone for good. They are both late. You just don't have to wait for another embarrassment and take the call. THis cycle goes on forever

India head coach Gautam Gambhir was also present in the meeting as the BCCI top brass sought response from the Indian team management over the recent run of results, particularly the 1-3 Border-Gavaskar series defeat to Australia and the 0-3 home sweep against New Zealand. In the meeting, it has been reported, that Rohit expressed his intentions of remaining the team's captain for a few more 'months'.

Questions over Rohit's long-term Test future intensified over the course of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, particularly because of his form with the bat. Rohit even decided to bench himself for the final match in Sydney, though India lost that encounter too.

During the meeting with BCCI, where Agarkar and Gambhir also expressed their views, Rohit is said to have told the board that he wants to remain the team's captain for a few more months. The BCCI, meanwhile, has been asked by Rohit to keep searching for a new captain.

According to a report in Dainik Jagran, during the meeting, the name of Bumrah as Rohit's long-term successor was proposed but there are a few who remain skeptical of his case. The particular doubt that was raised against Bumrah's case was his ability to lead the team in a 5-match Test series.

Bumrah was part of India's tour of Australia, where he featured in all 5 Tests, even leading the team in two of them. However, he sustained a back injury in the final Test at Sydney and didn't even bowl in the second innings.

Such fitness issues with the country's marquee pacer are bound to see the top bosses doubt his future as a long-term skipper.

Rohit wants to remain India's captain for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, following which the players would join their respective Indian Premier League franchises. After the end of the T20 league, India are scheduled to play England in a 5-match Test series. It isn't yet known whether Rohit will be the captain of the Test team for that event.

The BCCI could take decision on India's long-term captaincy during this phase.

Gambhir pr was not expected by Rohit's team .issue with rohit is that he is not performing to use his pr .everyone wants him out and aus commentators ran a program asking to retire after Adelaide match. That's unprecedented even by aus standards .both rohit and kohli pr is quite silent now a days due to their atrocious batting.this is the first time Indian caoch have pr.so its very different tactics is required from anyone who wants to counter gambhir
 
If Rohit has an iota of self-respect left he should quit from all formats. CLinging onto captaincy will only further damage his name. He extensively used PR to get what he wanted. Now he is at the end of his rope. Jig is up. He should do the honorable thing.

If Kohli had played he would have been brutally exposed by domestic bowlers. He stands no chance against them. He bailed out with injury reason.

He is making fool of himself .he retired after mcg and backtracked in middle of scg test.i dont think he will retire unless thrown out.Agarkar seems to be completely backing rohit as fellow Mumbaikar. kohli is also on the same line.
 
Looks like newer bunch of fans on social media don't even know the difference between a lean phase and terminal decline. I can guarantee they'll still back Rohit and Kohli even if they keep producing single digit scores for another couple of years calling it a 'lean phase'.​

He has already played the last test so no problem for us .

He is not going to play long inning in champion trophy either but can Play a cameo in PP just like World T20 2024 .

I am not sure about his last test match. He must have skipped ranji game , if its already decided .

I don't think he can play any effective innings any more in odis. Every one knows he will be desperate to attack in pp as he cant play beyond that and he will try to hoick. In short ,It's shahid afridi case. Bowlers have to be intelligent. Classic test match bowling should set him up in odis.
 
Rohit is officially is not even fit to play for his own domestic team lol He has conclusively proven. One of the strongest team Mumbai can put out (atleast on paper) played and lost to Jammu Kashmir. It was a comprehensive loss. Would have been destruction had Shardul thakur not batted well. Hope he never plays for India again.

How times change. Rohit Sharma really was a respected leader. During the 2023 CWC he really elevated himself as a batter and as captain in everyone’s eyes despite the heart break in the final and later when he lead the team to ICC T20 2024 victory he was at the top of the world. But it seems like the T20’world cup win brought the worst in him and a few other players. He became fat. His loose talking went out of hand. Looks like a gully cricketer these days with his looks and approach and see the daring (or rather shamelessness) of complaining against arguably the greatest ever test batsman post Bradman while himself averaging 6 in a test series. He’s ruining his legacy and I hope someone close to him has a word with him about that before it gets worse. For his services I want to remember him for the good, not for the nonsense that is going on in the last 6 months or so.
 
Rohit is setting a dangerous precedent here.As a non performing shameless captain , he is trying to suppress the noise by aggression. This is beyond pathetic and shameless to hit back at ur critics than with his performance .He seems to be living in fools paradise to think like a foolish dictator.

As per ct selection process reports, rohit was adamant for gill as vc where gambhir was vying for pandya.seems rohit is having typical feudal lord/zamindar mentality and he wants to step down on his own terms than team's Interests.

The guy he replaced was 17 year old Ayush Mhatre who made a brilliant 116 runs in the last innings. Very similar to what he is doing with national team. Same result as well. So far Ayush has made 465 runs at an average of 65. This guy twice the age of Ayush took his spot and ruined his team's chances as well.

Unfit captain got 30 runs where as bumrah got 31 wickets in bgt series. No way he can surpass imran.At Max he can score 50s by bullying in pp.If the bowling is good he can't buy a run anywhere.
 
Now gill knows he is in contention for the captaincy role along with pandya for odis.gill will definitely try to stat pad or take it slow .rohit can't bat beyond pp and can't bat slow to sabotage his own pr selfless intent drama .Pandya will try to do his own.very interesting times for players but india will be the loser till the new captain.

I'm certainly not going to want him to fail in the CT. That's not who I am. I might want a player to retire or be dropped, but once he is selected in the squad for a series, I'll 100% back him to do well. Wanting him to fail would hurt my team's chances in that series.

What I'll now say is I want him to retire or be dropped after the CT.​

If he does well or Indian wins ct both kohli and rohit will prolong til 27 odi wc with out any shame. Even now both of are unapologetic after test series humiliation.

This is most of indian fan's wish but unfortunately rohit has reached at the stage where he can't score any runs .

He can only Play a cameo in the pp.this is his highest celling in international cricket or even domestic .

He'll be 38 this April. Even Brian Lara and Glenn McGrath retired at the age of 38 and 37 respectively.

How long does he want to play? Until his blind fans give up hope on him as well?
