[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Litton Das - The Bangladeshi superstar

Brilliant from Liton Das - BD were 5 down and he partnered with Mushfiqur to take them to a pretty good position - currently 127*

Congratulations to Litton Das on completing 1000 runs in T20 internationals. The sixth Bangladeshi batsman to reach the mark.

Excellent innings by Liton Das. Future BD captain all formats. Should make him vice captain in all formats now.

Great Bday! For him and a present to the nation with a quality inning!

Well played birthday boy. Another classy inning from the Bangladesh best batsman. He is so soothing to the eyes when he is in full flow. His hundred against India was one of his best innings.

I have always rated this guy highly and believe he has underachieved so far in his career.

Liton Das possesses the talent to become the best batsman Bangladesh has ever produced.

If he keeps working hard and develops a good temperament, there is no reason why he cant be ranked among the top batsmen of the world consistently.

However, Bangladesh need to play more matches as well against top sides, so that's a bit of a handicap for them at the moment.

Does liton deserve an IPL contract?

Looks like a class act when song. Plays well against India. I remember him scoring a fast 100 Vs India in Asia cup final too

Would be a steal for low price for any IPL team in my opinion

IPL teams need power hitters. As good as Litton is there are 10-15 batsmen with similar style waiting in India. So teams won’t waste an overseas slot. I think he can keep so that’s an advantage but India have too many keeper- bats who open or play in the top order. Franchises pick players on slots available not just big names so won’t be easy for him to be picked.

Not needed. He is a pure batter, and will occupy 1 international slot. IPL teams do not need him unless he is very consistent and starts performing against other opponents as well.

Only scoring against IND will give him fans but probably not an IPL contract.

IPL recruiters always give more importance to non asian players and ignore some quality associate players. Even less known players like Meredith, Abbott, Gurney, Napier, Thornley and Rutherford are picked ahead of proven performers like Liton, Brendan Taylor, Muzarabani and Erasmus.
Hopefully Sikandar Raza and Liton are picked this time.

He will get. Problem is these Australian coaches promote useless Australian players and use IPL as a learning platform for them.

Ryan ten Doeschat had pretty good run in ipl for KKR.. Dirk Nannes too get selected when he's a player of Nederlands.. Sandeep lachimane too get selected, Tim David too..

I was thinking the same..there are so many overpriced ferengies..I understand the sentiment that there are players like Litton in India so why would you waste a oversea slot. This would have been a solid argument if IPL teams were already not eating many oversea spots on some non deserving Aussies...liton on other hand for a low price like $50k would be a steal..you won't play him at the start but can slot him in if some openers are struggling

Ten doeschate is a saffer and nannes and devid are Aussies..IPL coaches likes players from these countries

BD should have won today. Liton threw it away after batting so well today

To be fair it is not a risk to take run against throw of an Indian fielder these days. That was pretty much an impossible angle to hit. I still can't believe how KL Rahul bulls eyed the stump. I say bad luck for him. One time Indians hit the stump directly it had to be him running to the danger end

Tendo came to spotlight by playing well for nederlands, and David by playing various T20 franchise (same to Sandeep lachmanee too).. their root doesn't matter there

Also he slipped little midway..

If you look at stats for the one last 2.5 years litton has been one of the best batsmen in the world all formats considered . I hope he keeps this up.

Australian contingent is the worst. They even decide the playing XI for some teams. They somehow squeeze Aussies into the playing XI.

Now you have to identify a couple more of them. Shakib made debut in what? 2006? BD cannot continue relying on him. Age will catch up with him. Need a couple more impact players. Taskin is already very impressive.

Liton has been superb in all formats for the last year and more. During this time he hasn't even been fully fit and has always been carrying a niggle. There were doubts over his participation in this world cup as well. Hopefully he can regain full fitness and become even better and more consistent.

If he had batted longer today, Bangladesh could have won the match but he was very unlucky. Firstly, slipping and hurting his hand in the previous ball and then slipping again and getting done by a direct hit. Contrary to what Gavaskar said in commentary, I do think that the run was on as he is usually excellent at running between the wickets - I think he would have made it despite the direct hit had he not slipped.

Kohli gifts bat to Liton after request

Bangladesh batter Liton Das was gifted a bat by former India captain Virat Kohli after the former asked for one.

Bangladesh had faced India in the Group 2 fixture of the ongoing Twenty20 World Cup 2022 last Wednesday at Adelaide Oval.

Riding on Liton's dazzling 60-run innings, Bangladesh took the game close and lost by five runs (Duckworth/Lewis method) chasing 185-run target that was later revised to 151 from 16 overs.

Liton's 27-ball innings involved seven boundaries and three over boundaries.

According to team sources, Liton had a conversation with Kohli following the game and at one point requested for a bat.

Kohli later got a bat from the dressing room and handed it to Liton.

Exchange of bats and jerseys between players is a common practice in world cricket.

Bangladesh had lost the rain-interrupted game against India on the back of controversies.

The Bangladesh dugout was unhappy with several decisions from the match officials, including that of the fake throw by Kohli, and their urgency in resuming the game without giving enough time for the field to dry after heavy showers.

Bangladesh batter Litton Das scored a 27-ball 60 to give his team a head-start in the chase of 185 against India in the T20 World Cup match on Wednesday. Though Bangladesh lost the contest, Litton's knock was the one of the talking points of the game, which was interrupted by rain in Adelaide. Now, Bangladesh Cricket Board chief Jalal Yunus has revealed that India star batter Virat Kohli gifted a bat to Litton, possibly to acknowledge his knock at the Adelaide Oval.

"When we were sitting in the dining hall, Virat Kohli came and gifted a bat to Litton. According to me, it was a moment of inspiration for Litton. Litton is a class batter. We have seen him play classical shots. He is a brilliant player in Tests and ODIs. Recently, he has started playing well in T20Is as well," Yunus was reportedly quoted as saying by BD Crictime.

True. Australians have been the biggest beneficiaries of name value. Ben Rohrer, Travis Birt, Aiden Blizzard, Ben Laughlin, Neser, Paris, Maddinson, Handscomb, Hastings, Coulter Nile etc. Guys like Stirling, K O Brien, Taylor, Muzarabani, Blignaut would have been much better picks than these guys.

Das currently batting on 58* and is the only one in the way of India winning the series

Bangladesh opener Litton Das produced a stunning knock in Chattogram in the rain-shortened second T20I against Ireland.

Put in to bat, Litton Das had a lucky reprieve in the fourth over when George Dockrell shelled a catch in the deep off Mark Adair and conceded a six. Das followed it up with back-to-back boundaries and never looked back from there.

In the next over, he hit Fionn Hand for two fours and a six to edge close to a fifty. He completed the half-century next over off a mere 18 balls, making it the fastest fifty by a Bangladesh player in T20Is.

Mohammad Ashraful had hit a 20-ball fifty for Bangladesh against West Indies in the inaugural ICC Men's T20 World Cup in South Africa, then a record for Bangladesh.

Das himself came close to breaking the record last year when he made a 21-ball fifty against India in Adelaide in the Men's T20 World Cup Down Under.

At the other end, Rony Talukdar offered Das good company, racing to 40 off 19 balls with two sixes in the Gareth Delany over.

Like with the first T20I, the Bangladesh openers once again set the tone with a fiery stand. On Monday, the duo had put on 81 in the Powerplay overs, the highest score for them in the first six overs in T20Is.

Here, they nearly matched the feat with 73 runs coming in the first six overs. Das eventually fell for 83 off just 41 balls, edging a delivery from Benjamin White to the wicketkeeper.

ICC

Will be interesting to see how he fares in the IPL if he gets a few games. I think he is only the third pure batsman from Bangladesh to get an IPL contract - Ashraful only got one game and Tamim Iqbal was snubbed for an entire season.

Given his impressive batting skills and strong leadership qualities, he should have been appointed as the captain of the Bangladeshi team.

Bangladesh opener backed to find form prior to T20 World Cup

An experienced batter from Bangladesh is being tipped to find his touch ahead of next month's T20 World Cup.

Bangladesh batter Towhid Hridoy is not perturbed by Litton Das' recent lack of runs and is backing the experienced opener to find form prior to next month's ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Das has managed just 36 runs from the first three matches of Bangladesh's ongoing T20I series against Zimbabwe and the 29-year-old hasn't gone past 50 in his last 10 T20I matches for his country.

While Bangladesh are yet to name their 15-player squad for this year's T20 World Cup, Das is expected to be one of the first players picked based upon his good record against the white-ball and the fact he was their second leading run-scorer at the most recent tournament in Australia in 2022.

Hridoy expects to see Das find form during Bangladesh's final two matches against Zimbabwe and carry that into next month's T20 World Cup in USA and the West Indies should he earn selection.

"Look no one is willingly play badly," Hridoy said.

"Litton and other top order batters are trying to give their best. A good player will not always play well. In the recent past there are lots of talks regarding Litton bhai's strike rate but if you check you will find his strike rate is still among the top three in Bangladesh.

"No matter whether you are the best batter in the world, you will not play well in all the matches or series. I am hoping those who are not among runs will get back to runs soon. In one game if he does good he will make a comeback and it can happen that he can change the scenario in a big game. We have to keep the faith and it will not help if we lost the faith."

Bangladesh are drawn in Group D for the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies, with the Asian side fixtured to play Sri Lanka in their first clash and further matches against South Africa, Netherlands and Nepal as five teams chase two spots in the Super 8s stage of the tournament.

Hridoy has been pleased with his side's preparation for next month's tournament and is expecting the final two matches against Zimbabwe at home and three-game series against the USA just prior to the commencement of the T20 World Cup to have his team primed for the event.

"I think the preparation is going the right manner," Hridoy noted.

"I don't think the games (against Zimbabwe) are very easy. They are also good team and they also have some good players and every international team is difficult and there is a huge difference between international and domestic cricket so I feel we are having good preparation and we have areas to improve and that remains the case in every game so the more we improve the better."

I still remember his innings against India in the WT20 2022. He was on song and in a position to win for his team then rain came and he crumbled. So did the team.

Decent player but that weak small team mentality will never let him become anything bigger

Liton Das has one of the lowest strike rate for a batter in T20WC

Lowest strike rate in T20WC(250+ balls)

103 - Gerhard Erasmus
104 - Asghar Afghan
108 - Mushfiqur Rahim
108 - Liton Das

Happy for him as a Hindu, given the atrocities they continue to face in Bangladesh under the current oppressive regime. He is in much better place right now. Pakistanis have always opened their hearts for us.

I hope he scores a double and dedicates it to the Bangladeshi Hindu community. They have been through a lot, despite being more talented tham the majority. :(

He has a positive approach and, plays with intent and is now their most dangerous batsman especially in white ball.
In tests also he has done reasonably well averaging 36 as a wk bat, that's gold standard for Bangladesh.

Who is talented than the majority? Dude still to cricket. Don’t get RELIGION involved in this section. Why do you Indian non-MUSLIMS always get religion involved?

This so called ‘talented than the majority’ in his country, scored 58 on a national highway. Mehidy Miraz a tailender outscored him with 78. When the last time Liton Das scored a century against big team in any format? Talented? So was Alok Kapali.

Why so much hate for a minority cricketer? Aren’t Bangladeshis your brothers.

Litton Das in tests
2021- 594 runs at 49.5 avg
2022- 800 runs at 44.44
2023-141+ runs at 47

And now he gets his 4th century of the career against Pakistan in the 2nd test match.
great knock under pressure.

One of the most aesthetically pleasing batters to watch in this modern era. If he works on his consistency and temperament he has all the makings of being a world beater.

I am glad that I was the one who believed in him and created this thread, nine years ago.

He has just played arguably Bangladesh’s greatest test knock ever.

What an effort

Timely century. Much needed. Wanted him to get the 150. But great effort under pressure, 138 - excellent innings.

Hoping more centuries to come from hereon in the next series!

He seems to be finally realizing his potential and the faith that BD have put and invested in him. A genuine class batsman.

Better late than never.

Needs to be more consistent, especially in LOI. He doesnt average 40+ against any top 7sides. Only one hundred against a top side 7 side, that was against India.

He has played 91 ODI, 3 tons against Zimbabwe, 1 against Afghanistan. Not good enough in ODI. Needs to start scoring tons against better teams. Heck, doesnt even have any ODI ton against Windies.

Is Liton Kumar Das the first Hindu batsman to have his name written on the Rawalpindi Honours Board?

Liton Das was the player of the match in the 2nd test match against Pakistan. What a performance from this guy throughout the whole series. Probably played the best inning of his life where he scored 138 runs and most of these runs where scored with a tail-ender on the other end. Brilliant and well deserved award for this man.

This is the fourth time he has done it, the best under pressure player in Test cricket.

Played the innings of his life. Probably one of the best Test innings in Banglaesh history given the tricky phase he had to navigat for a long period.
Agreed, It's the best Innings by a Bangladeshi in Test cricket. Finally he is playing to his fullest potential. I hope the form continues against India.

Litton-led side clean-swept the West Indies 3-0 in the T20I series at Kingstown. After winning the 3rd T20I, he spoke during a media interaction:

"As far as captaincy is concerned, if the BCB asks me to lead then I am ready to do it because there is no reason (not to) and I am enjoying it."

I take a lot of decisions on the field from the experience that I have got playing for so long and the skill that the bowlers developed it is easier to run the show on the field."

"As a captain, I never said that you give everything (on the field). All I said was that they (West Indies) are a better side and on their day they can destroy at their home ground and so the information was like we will go and enjoy the cricket and whatever the result we will take that with a smiling face and we will try to fulfill our responsibility."

Congratulations to our Hindu brother Liton bhai. Great leadership.

Bangladesh veteran speaks out on omission from Champions Trophy squad

The Bangladesh batter, who was dropped from the Champions Trophy squad on Sunday morning, responded with a century later that day in the Bangladesh Premier League.

When Bangladesh announced their Champions Trophy squad on Sunday, a few key players were notably absent from the 15-member team, one of whom was wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das.

The 30-year-old was candid about his non-selection and acknowledged that his exclusion was due to his poor run of form.

"The Champions Trophy selection wasn't in my control. The selectors took the call. They decide whom to play. My job is to perform. I haven't been able to do that," said Litton Das after his explosive innings of 125 off just 55 balls against Durbar Rajshahi in the Bangladesh Premier League.

"I think I was a bit upset about it. I have the same mindset before and after the game today. The day has already passed. I have played a good knock but it's in the past. I start from zero again. I will keep working hard, let's see what happens next.”

Litton has been struggling for form while playing for the national team, failing to score more than single digits in his last seven ODI innings. His most recent 50+ score dates back to October 2023, against India in the 2023 Cricket World Cup.

"I was given a clear message. Maybe not from the selectors but it is easy to find out why I wasn't picked in the team," Litton added.

"I was dropped because I wasn't performing. There's nothing to hide about it. Basic, normal."

Despite missing out on an important tournament, Litton expressed his desire to improve his game and turn it around so that he gets another shot with the national side.

"Fans will support me but then when I don't do well, people will be negative. That's not really my concern," he said. "I am focused on what I need to do. I haven't been playing well, so I need to improve my game. I won't change overnight, so I have to keep trying. People will love it when I score runs.

"I am not out there to prove to anyone. I only look for improvement. I don't think I was playing well for the last few months. I will try to become more consistent from this point, especially after this innings.
