[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Sufiyan Muqeem: The Left-Arm Wrist Spin Enigma

Mixed performance in the end. Will need to iron out those half trackers quickly as he will get eaten alive by top batsmen if he doesn't.

Agree, does remind me of Kuldeep. SENA teams will struggle against him in spinning pitches at home so he should be in test squad too.
 
kuldeep has a much better stock ball, its early days but this guy is essentially a left arm shadab. not too sure how much he can develop, but hes clearly not a red ball bowler.

not sure why so many here saying he should play first class cricket, dont think playing 2 or 3 first class games will make much difference. just needs to do rounds in the leagues and learn his white ball craft.
 
Saim Ayub looked far better than him. He was the one creating the pressure which led to the wickets as batsmen couldn’t even pick him and so were forced to try against Sufiyan.

Spinners usually need it more than anyone else to learn how to control their line and length. He has potential but it will take a bit of time to work out the issues.

Today he was a bit too wayward and lucked into a few wickets. It's fine in T20I cricket but not as easy to hide in the longer formats but there's no need to give up on him. Just let him go back with a plan and continue to work on his game with the coaches.

I think he has to be part of the team i seriously think this boy has the talent to be pak greatest spinner he just needs to picked in playing 11 and trust him more not drop him after odd bad game.

Rana sahab this boy has what it takes we have to promote this young talent at any cost if you can plz send this to aqib as well lol hopefully this boy gets selected.

Theek hai, I don’t disagree he can be a big asset to Pakistan. But I don’t agree with your insistence that he is what was definitely needed at this moment, or Pakistan dropped their chances to win the CT by not picking him.

Eventually, you have to acknowledge that until your batting doesn’t evolve into a modern outfit, you can have Rashid Khan and he will struggle to ensure you defend par or below par scores.

Agreed 100 percent with you on this rana sahab i really hope fakhar and saim come back if you have to drop babar and rizwan from the team so be it but i would want fakhar and saim as my openers in white ball from now on.
 
The issue with Sufiyan Muqeem is that he isn't consistent with his line & length but has good variations. He bats like a proper No.11 & his fielding could do with some work.

With all that being said, he needs to be persisted with as he is a promising spinner.
 
not sure why he was kept sidelined warming the bench when your other spinners were getting hammered every game... Should have played all 5 games
 
Brilliant so far... 2 wickets for him... Pakistan missed the trick here by not playing him before.
 
He is the kind of wrist spinner you need in T20s. Someone who can bowl fast (95+ kph) and accurately. We never had a spinner like that since Afridi. Sufyan bowled well today and he has a bright future if he can get more accurate.
 
Crazy that he was not given a chance today against kiwis in the first ODI... Haris took his place I think or maybe ali bu this is crazy... AAQIB giving favors.
 
Sufiyan, Haris and Shaheen should be 3 locks for next WT20 in South Africa. Find bowlers with batting/slogging ability to round out the remaining 8 overs

He will go for 70+ in 6/7 overs next game,
Can’t turn the ball much either way he is more of a gentle trundler who can nip the ball both ways slightly and once batsmen start go berserk on him without caring which way the ball will spin slightly then he will have no answer to that.
 
Usman Tariq is a better option and he disguise his deliveries way better and is not afraid of flighting the delivery and turns it more as well.

Based on his t20 performance, I think he should play.. No way he can sit out.

Since we haven’t got Murli or Warne in our domestic cricket so no harm in trying but 90% chance he will go for runs while picking up a wicket or two due to mis time shots from the batters.

He is a wicket taker... His t20 record has been fantastic... I will surely play him ahead of ali next game...

Yes he is a wicket taker only when batsmen are playing defensively and trying to play classical ODI cricket but teams these days don’t play 90s style of cricket anymore.

If only he got high revs then batsmen will think twice before trying to go berserk against him because of high probability of mis timing the spinning delivery.
 
He could have pickup loads of wicket in Anil Kumble way if he was a 90s cricketer where batters were just looking to milk him for singles and doubles and trying to read the spin off the pitch, but teams don’t play that brand of cricket and darters role in cricket is diminished now.

Mehran Mumtaz, Sufiyan Muqeem and Arafat Minhas should be in the mix by now. None of them are exceptional, but as a unit they will be able to bowl well as they have for the Shaheens. Aswell as Abrar, we have four decent spin bowling options including an all-rounder.

Right now we have nothing. We are literally going in one bowler short every single game.

Anil Kumble type accurate darters are extremely valuable in modern limited over cricket. Afridi and Rashid Khan are two examples who succeeded in T20s. Rashid spins a bit more but both Afridi and him bowl quicker than average and are/were extremely accurate. Sufyan is similar kind of bowler. He just needs to develop accuracy. Modern day batsmen with their deficient techniques are suspect against tight bowlers who can turn it both ways even if that turn is not much. Saim Ayub's success with the ball is due to that reason.

The reason Shadab, Usama Mir and Chahal type bowlers are not as successful is that they bowl too slowly on top of being not accurate.

Only Adil Rashid and Kuldeep are exceptions.

All of them have potential but from the little bits of it have seen of them none are shouting pick me and give me a long run. Mehran bowls too quick and has little or no variation on pace, Sufyan has history against him as few chinamen have succeeded and Arafat is tidy but whether he can kick on and become our Jadeja, will depend alot on whether he can keep the best batsman honest with spin like Jadeja and opportunity

They can only get better if they get opportunities, rather than sit on the bench and watch the likes of Khushdil, Shadab and Salman Agha lead the spin bowling attack.

Let them play lots of FC. Nothing like bowling in FC to develop. I am not against giving them game time but their real development comes from proper FC cricket

dont agree with this tbh, some of the top t20 spinners have very limited and unimpressive first class records. rashid khan has played 10 fc games in 10 years, zampa averages nearly 50, hasaranga has 100 fc wickets in 50 games, akeal hossein has played 20 games in 13 years, chakravarthi has played 1 fc game.

what you need is for guys like muqeem to play as many leagues as possible to gain access to top level analytics and coaching. what they do with those resources is up to them. this is all before even acknowledging that pak FC is pbly equivalent to club level cricket in other countries now.

yes some world class spinners are world class across formats, but lets not run before we can walk, if he can specialise in t20s and be consistent, that would be good enough for pak atm.

Agreed but he needs slightly more turn and revs to be successful because he is not that accurate like Afridi , Rashid

if it is even 10% true what you say - then he needs to stay away from Pak cricket team. they will make sure he reaches their level in no time.
 
That was a waste of a review by him. Not sure if it was the right decision by him to go for this.
