[PICTURES/VIDEOS] "There is a huge difference in the Umar Amin of 2010 with the one of today" : Umar Amin

You are missing the point here. He is so "pleasing" to the eye and his "classy" and "elegant" technique should be enough to warrant a place in the team. So what if he was given 34 chances and his domestic record is still under 40.
Even when he got out cheaply numerous times, it looked so classy and pleasing to the eye, and not to forget his walk to the dressing room was very stylish.

I actually met him, and hes really a nice humble guy.

I wish he had succeeded at international level.

If you read his interviews, he himself admits that it was his own mistakes and no one could be blamed. Educated and level headed guy

He was destined to be an opener but Pakistan cricket management (Waqar Younis/Misbah) thought the guy is a middle order bat

He was destined for nothing. He had plenty of chances. An opener should also be able to bat in the middle order. Opening is actually a lot harder.

I saw him and Mohammad Amir both play together for a u17 match against England. Amir was apparently 15 in that game and he was bowling 87mph on the clock. Amin was batting as an opener and you could see the potential he had with his elegant stroke play against the new ball. I thought Pakistan really unearthed a gem in this player. He was so stylish and dominant at the top.

Mentally shot at the highest level, but middle order was not the right idea for him. Pakistan were playing him at 4-5 whilst Imran Farhat was having a free ride for God knows how many Tests as an opener and consistently failing. When Younis Khan finally got his act together and PCB realised they needed the Gentleman Misbah to clean the image of Pakistan cricket, Amin was written off as a middle order player for good.

For a start Amir wasn't 15. The game you are talking about was played at Leicester and I actually went to the game. Its where I met Umar and others. I also spoke to Attari at length and he was also a really nice guy.
Umar never developed, he was also late on the ball and he was so bad that at Walsall in the Bham league they nearly dropped him. I spoke to some players at the club and they thought he was an imposter

wonder why was he able to perform well in our domestic circuit

I don't know, maybe the low bounce suited him on the domestic scene or he was just comfortable. Like many that have met him, I was also hoping that he did well but tbh I knew pretty quickly that he didn't have it. Its a shame

One of the nicest guy i have ever met. Never had that ego that some domestic players end up developing even. Thus, one feels bad for him.

Another player destroyed by Misbah.

Gave him a false sense of confidence when he selected him for the 2013 CT.

I went to the game early and wanted to chat to Amir in pothwari as my Urdu is so and so and because we live only 5 miles apart. I found Amir to be arrogant, which was the total opposite of Umar and Attari. Both were proper gentlemen. Its a shame neither made it

Yeah, I saw him live at the ground there, horrid and absolute useless player.

Then Misbah was revelling in his own glory by tuk tuking his way to one of the last batsmen standing and thinking it was a great achievement while we stuttered to mediocre totals and chases losing all group games.

Look I dont know Umar Amin’s stats are in domestic cricket but every time i see him bat even in domestic T20s, I see a test batsman.

Undoubtedly Umar has been hard done in the past but throwing him out of nowhere into test arena would be stupidity too.

We need to get Imam to open in test cricket. We need Saud/KG/Salahuddin at 3 to replace Azhar. Perhaps in a year or so we need to find someone to replace Fawad too. We also need a second opener with Umar Amin can feature but for that he needs to grow a spine and show some discipline in consistent performances in upcoming QEA.

Amir was arrogant as a 16 year old before international debut?

Umar Amin 94* for Northern v KP in Round 1 of QeA - important innings to help his side to a commanding position

At the NBP Sports Complex, Northern batters Faizan Riaz and Umar Amin stitched a 308-run partnership for the fourth wicket to put their side in a commanding position against Southern Punjab. Resuming their innings at the overnight score of 54 for three, Northern finished at 421 for nine to lead Southern Punjab by 183 runs.

Faizan notched up his 13th first-class century while scoring 168 off 268 balls with 22 fours and two fours, while his partner, left-handed Umar, scored his second century of the tournament as he contributed 158 off 271 balls with 22 fours and one six.

Bagh Stallions have named experienced cricketer Umar Amin as their captain for Kashmir Premier League (KPL) season 2.

In a press conference here on Wednesday, Stallions announced Amin as their skipper for second season.

Amin, last played for Rawalakot Hawks in KPL season 1

Good for him. Very good domestic performer, just couldn't cut it at the international stage.

Hes so bad. I remember once him and someone else opened in Srilanka. They couldnt even touch the ball.

I still believe there is a test player in this guy. Hopefully PCB is smart to extract the remaining cricket out of him.

Then your belief is merely that..hopeful nonsense. He is rubbish. Proven useless international player. Some players are good domestic players and should stick to that.

Bit harsh here.

He played 4 tests in the most extreme swinging conditions Ive seen.

Should have been given a test chance in the UAE before discarding him.

In LOIs he wasnt great I agree with that.

Over at the National Bank Cricket Arena (National Stadium, Karachi), table-toppers Northern resumed their first innings at 350 for one and went onto cross the 600-run mark to finish with 605 for eight (declared) against Sindh.

Umar scored 140 off 198 balls (11 fours, two sixes) to spearhead his side’s batting performance following first day centuries by openers Hasan Raza and Mohammad Huraira. Faizan Riaz contributed 47 and Umar Waheed scored 35. Northern called-off their innings after 154.5 overs batting.

Classiest Pakistani left hander since Saeed Anwar. Deserved more chances in tests. He was unlucky to miss out on the batch of Pak batsmen who cashed in and made careers out of flat track bullying in UAE.

After 4 tests at 21 in England he never got another chance to be fair he had his chances in odi and PSL but always looked a deer caught in headlights once the camera was rolling.

Hid ship has sailed however respect for turning in to a good domestic stalwart these types are also needed in your system to help the younger ones.

This guy should have played 50plus Tests for Pakistan if he had played to his potential.

Sadly though like so many Pakistani batters he didn't quite hit the heights that he should have.

There's a decent queue of test match batsmen to replace Fawad and Azhar so it would be very surprising.

Shakeel, Salahuddin, Ghulam, Shan Masood all ahead of Umar right now.

People are not going to like what I'm going to say. Saud Shakeel will be next Umar Amin if he does not address his flaws before playing for Pakistan. Saud has a tendency to play very loose not only early in his innings but also midway in his innings. Playing loose against domestic teams might not hurt you however in international cricket loose play will haunt you.

Kamran Ghulam and Shan Masood are a no brainer that should ideally be playing for Pakistan already. Usman Salahuddin unfortunately is a Misbah mould player that would do well on flat tracks but not in SENA conditions and also his defensive mindset might not work in this Pakistan team.

For me ideally I would like to see Umar Amin in the Pakistan test line-up but I also understand that at this point there is unfortunately no room for him. He can potentially be on the bench though.

Agree, Amin still has some years left in him to play for Pakistan .

When Azhar gets dropped or retires Babar Azam should bat at 3 and the newcomer should bat at 4

Leicestershire Sign Pakistan Star Umar Amin For County Championship Run-In

Leicestershire CCC is excited to confirm the signing of Pakistan international Umar Amin for the final four LV= Insurance County Championship fixtures of the season.

The 33-year-old will replace Peter Handscomb in the Foxes’ four-day side after the Australian star returned home following Leicestershire’s Metro Bank One Day Cup semi-final victory over Gloucestershire on Tuesday.

Amin arrives with a wealth of experience, having scored a colossal 19,770 career runs across 467 appearances in all formats – including 34 for his country.

The top-order batter has enjoyed a flourishing career in first-class cricket, registering more than 10,000 runs at an impressive average of 41.13. Amin has notched 28 centuries in the longest form of the game, headlined by his career-best score of 281 during the 2012/13 President's Trophy.

The Rawalpindi-born star also offers a medium-pace bowling option, picking up 91 wickets to date, including 49 at 34.30 in first-class cricket.

Amin holds vast knowledge of English conditions, having made his Test debut at Lord’s during Pakistan’s series against Australia and England in the summer of 2010. That tour included a two-day fixture at Grace Road, with Amin retiring not out on 51.

The left-hander has spent this summer playing for Cavaliers and Carrington CC in the Nottinghamshire Premier League, top-scoring for the side with 758 runs at an average of 50.53, while he made his LCCC Second XI debut at Loughborough this week – scoring 47 with his maiden knock.

Discussing his move to Uptonsteel County Ground, Amin said: “I am delighted to sign with Leicestershire for what promises to be an exciting end to the season.

“I have been very impressed with the team’s performances this year, particularly in red-ball cricket, and hopefully I can contribute to some more wins in the month ahead.”

Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, said: “We are really excited to welcome Umar to Leicestershire. He will bring a wealth of experience to our changing room, as well as our batting lineup, and will provide the ideal balance to the team at a crucial stage of the season.”

Amin joins the Foxes ahead of Sunday’s County Championship clash with Gloucestershire at Uptonsteel County Ground, with the Club still in the promotion hunt from Division Two.

Competition rules will not permit Amin to feature in next month’s Metro Bank One Day Cup final against Hampshire at Trent Bridge.

How desperate are counties these days. Seems like a shortage of decent players in the circuit.

Good news for guys like Umar Amin though.

Had good prospects, stroke play made for great visuals. Was definitely captaincy material if he had been groomed correctly. His english was very good also so would have looked better and more classy in press conferences and post match presentation. Shame the management never gave him an extended run. What a waste!

What's this Pakistani obsession with English speaking captaincy material

Your country representatives need to have some personality as well. The captain has to face the media and be eloquent. So good english helps with that, especially in the Pakistani context.

Good opportunity for him.

He was already in the UK playing league cricket in Nottingham.

I'm pretty sure he's another who will become a UK citizen at some point through his spouse.

Amin's debut for Leicestershire - out for 0 (4).

I have met him and he was very generous with his time but I am afraid the boat has sailed. Hopefully he makes runs for Leicester and gets a contract

Umar 61* (127) overnight for Leicestershire against Sussex with the team 221/3 and needing 278 more runs. An opportunity to get a big score to take his team over the line tomorrow.

Amin hits 94 from 185 in Leictershire's 2nd innings against Sussex in the LV County Championship (2nd division). He got bowled in the nervous 90's, attempting to extravagently cut Carson, the offspinner. Leicester require 153 more runs with 4 wickets in hand to win the match.

If we are talking about middle order batsmen that can bowl military medium than I think Danish Aziz is someone similar to Umar Amin but far more capable

The thing I remember the most about him is that he had a lot of class in his batting.

The shots he could play had the hallmark of royalty on them.

Indeed, even the way he got out today, looked like it was going to be a classy back-foot guided cut haha

As per reports:

ECB is investigating allegations that Sussex bowler Ari Karvelas used discriminatory language towards former Pakistan batter currently representing Leicestershire, Umar Amin, during a County Championship match.

Karvelas is alleged to have remarked to Amin, "Send him back to the village he came from," after he was dismissed in the second innings. Amin played a knock of 94 runs off 185 deliveries in the second innings of the match.

The ECB has confirmed that it is aware of the allegations and that an investigation is underway. Once the investigation is complete, the ECB will decide whether to take any disciplinary action against Karvelas.

It is such a shame that he couldn't perform well at the international level with the kind of batting talent and style he had. His first-class average is over 41 but his test average is only 12.37. For me, he was a better batsman than Azhar Ali but somehow he couldn't shine at the big stage.

no one.

Him and Azhar debuted at the same time and Umar Amin got an extended run and double chance. Azhar Ali wasn't in contention and only got selected at the last minute. He performed and kept his spot in the team.

Yes, Azhar did manage to cement his position in the national team with his decent performances but Umar Amir failed to do it. In my view, Umar should've played more international cricket with the kind of batting talent and class he always had. Even today, it you see him bat, he looks great.

He did get a chance but at #3 in England in conditions that suited bowlers even more than usual and against peak Anderson. Terrible time to introduce a new batsman. Most others would have failed and our batting unit failed often on that tour.

Shafiq on the other hand lucked out debuting in the UAE later that same year.

bro he got chances alot more. He started from Asia cup till england series and failed everywhere.

Azhar Ali who was half as talented as him scored 92 runs in an innings.

Umar looks a better player now than he has ever done. The impact of professional county cricket is huge on most player. On the other hand you have to be as thick as HA to become worse

I have to disagree. His strokeplay still looks very limited. Yes he looks more confident but why wouldn't he be in a National t20 cup? I've only seen the highlights but all the boundaries look predictable and of the same shots. 90% of them are flicked off the pads or hammered near/towards mid-off. His runs came to be from poor fielding and predictable bowling. He still can't survive as he is in the modern game. But I'm happy to see him enjoying himself out there and making runs for his team.
