Leicestershire Sign Pakistan Star Umar Amin For County Championship Run-In
Leicestershire CCC is excited to confirm the signing of Pakistan international Umar Amin for the final four LV= Insurance County Championship fixtures of the season.
The 33-year-old will replace Peter Handscomb in the Foxes’ four-day side after the Australian star returned home following Leicestershire’s Metro Bank One Day Cup semi-final victory over Gloucestershire on Tuesday.
Amin arrives with a wealth of experience, having scored a colossal 19,770 career runs across 467 appearances in all formats – including 34 for his country.
The top-order batter has enjoyed a flourishing career in first-class cricket, registering more than 10,000 runs at an impressive average of 41.13. Amin has notched 28 centuries in the longest form of the game, headlined by his career-best score of 281 during the 2012/13 President's Trophy.
The Rawalpindi-born star also offers a medium-pace bowling option, picking up 91 wickets to date, including 49 at 34.30 in first-class cricket.
Amin holds vast knowledge of English conditions, having made his Test debut at Lord’s during Pakistan’s series against Australia and England in the summer of 2010. That tour included a two-day fixture at Grace Road, with Amin retiring not out on 51.
The left-hander has spent this summer playing for Cavaliers and Carrington CC in the Nottinghamshire Premier League, top-scoring for the side with 758 runs at an average of 50.53, while he made his LCCC Second XI debut at Loughborough this week – scoring 47 with his maiden knock.
Discussing his move to Uptonsteel County Ground, Amin said: “I am delighted to sign with Leicestershire for what promises to be an exciting end to the season.
“I have been very impressed with the team’s performances this year, particularly in red-ball cricket, and hopefully I can contribute to some more wins in the month ahead.”
Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, said: “We are really excited to welcome Umar to Leicestershire. He will bring a wealth of experience to our changing room, as well as our batting lineup, and will provide the ideal balance to the team at a crucial stage of the season.”
Amin joins the Foxes ahead of Sunday’s County Championship clash with Gloucestershire at Uptonsteel County Ground, with the Club still in the promotion hunt from Division Two.
Competition rules will not permit Amin to feature in next month’s Metro Bank One Day Cup final against Hampshire at Trent Bridge.
