Pitch for India vs England 2nd Test expected to offer more turn

Simple FAQ cos a lot of fans seem to need it lol

Is this a sporting pitch in the technical definition of sporting?

Of course not.

Is it an unfair pitch?

Absolutely not.

Batting first is an advantage for sure but its not decisive unlike other pitches that are dead for 2 days and then come to life. Or green seamers that turn brown on day 2.

Is it a poor pitch according to ICC?

Yep. According to the rules, any pitch that spins or seams too much is poor.

Any pitch that is dead as a dodo is also poor.

But a dead as a dodo pitch that turns on day 3 or 4 is NOT poor according to ICC.

Go figure lol.

Also not sure whether any real seaming pitch has been declared poor. Maybe. May not be. I dunno.

Is it a poor pitch all rules aside?

IMHO no.

Cos the turn is there from ball 1.

And bounce is consistent.

Some balls bounced higher which is natural in places like Mumbai and Chennai. It even happened in test 1.

But it hasn't kept low for both the innings.

This is a great advertisement for test cricket as batsman are under pressure to score runs and bowlers are under pressure to get wickets fast as 1-2 partnerships can change the game.

Is it unfair on Indians part to dish out this pitch?

Nope.

Every country presents with a unique challenge.

You have extravagent seam in SA, swing in Eng (tho that ain't related to pitch), bounce in Aus.

Same way, extravagent spin in some Indian pitches is the norm.

Just cos India gives out flat tracks doesn't mean they are "obligated" to give you flat tracks all the time.

The people who rate this pitch as poor should ALSO rate the first test pitch as poor.

How many of them have done it?

Raise your hands.

If you are one, feel free to criticize this pitch.

Why did Indians prepare this pitch after the dull first test pitch?

To take out the toss advantage and this was the only option left in a short span of time.

Are you sure they are not afraid of giving England sporting pitches?

While England is our bogey team, common sense and history would suggest India isn't afraid of giving them normal tracks at home.

I don't like these pitches cos runs can't be scored here. They should be banned,

Good for you.

Don't watch the games.

Hope India gives out more of these pitches JUST to change the perspective of people around the world.

Conclusion

Everyone has their views.

But time to stop complaining and start playing. :D

Honestly if you can have a advantage at home where you can play to your strengths and win. What's the harm in that? If I knew that I could improve my chances of a win by playing a certain way I would be foolish to not do it.

Why do you have to accommodate the visiting team? I say embarass them and send them packing. If they want they can return the favor.

All this accommodation and sporty wicket stuff is nonsense, if you're looking at it from a competitive perspective.

^Ignore the typos & grammar errors in my post above.

Haven't proofread it lol.

Moreover, once you get in, you can actually score.

I agree with most of your points...but these pitches still dont rule out the toss factor.

Winning the toss is still a huge advantage as it's almost impossible to chase anything in 4th innings on these wickets.

Nothing wrong with creating a spinning wicket.

I think that's what puts the "test" in test cricket.

It makes an away series more valuable when you win whether it's green wickets in England, bouncy decks in South Africa, or a dust bowl in India.

They don't.

But they don't kill the game then and there.

Chasing in 4th innings is hard in almost every pitch. Thats why chases are so rare and special.

With pitches like these, you are always in the game.

Thats why in 2 out of 3 examples I posted above, the team batting 2nd won. That too after the team batting first had scored 300.

Issue is that for me this is doctoring and people here denying that it is not... I am not against it but most Indian fans here deny that they need this advantage to win at home easily because reality is that as soon as they are trouble at home they doctor the pitch for next time... Again no issue in that but dont deny it as if we are stupid and cant see straight

India doesn't need this advantage lol.

India just wanted to make sure toss is ruled out.

I am sure you are smart enough to distinguish between the two.

If India "needed this advantage", why didn't we dish it out to England in 2016 tour?

And why was the first test so dull?

What Indians are objecting to is the accusation of needing such pitches to win against England when India just won in Aus lol.

And Indian record at home is there for all to see.

You are not expert neither am I but the expert in Indian team has decided after losing the first test its necessary to make such a wicket as they dont want to take any chances. Winning in AUS has nothing to do with this tour or what happens in India.

Not one Indian wicket in the second innings has fallen to a misbehaving delivery.

This much amount of turn is expected.

The pitch debate is desperately dull. The home side gets to set the conditions — that is a part of home advantage. It’s a shame that these discussions are threatening to take the focus off the numerous examples of great cricket that have been exhibited in this Test match — such as (among others) Rohit’s astonishing hundred, Kohli’s excellent captaincy, the veteran Ishant’s fiery opening spell, Axar’s metronomic control, Pant’s superman catches, the world-class wicketkeeping and stumping from Foakes, a promising fast bowling performance from young Stone, and Ashwin’s man-of-the-match heroics & all-round brilliance.

Nobody is devaluing the players performances although the pitch might have distracted that part.

This.

Stone & Foakes especially have very bright future ahead of them.

Floakes played brilliantly for his 42 not out here as well. It was impressive the way he batted. Now someone can score 42 by slogging and getting lucky, but he batted with assurance against very good bowlers on turning track.

Hardly any English posters whining, even among their cricketers Swann has no issues.
I heard Nick Knight has issues with this pitch. I followed him during our Australian trip and I found him quite nice as well as detailed, technical and analytical in his analysis.

Wonder, how could he be so wrong!

The Indians and the English are enjoying this hard-fought and competitive series. Most complaints about the pitch seem to be coming from outside of India and England.

Not a rank Turner......batsman need to stay 5here and spend time.....run making is possible....Jadeja would have been quite handful here
