Plight of Hindus in Bangladesh after coup

Forget about Bangladesh, this would be the future of Hindus in India if Congress/non-BJP party comes back to power.

West Bengal already feels pretty much what we are seeing in BD today. Most of the blame lies with liberal Indians including the OP himself (sorry for being blunt) :)

@HalBass9 still believes these protests are not communal 🤡

@sweep_shot still believes hindus are safe in BD 🤡

There is a reason they say - when Rajdeep speaks, you just listen and move on. I know this world in the palm of my hand and fully aware who is what.

:shh
They weren't when the protest began but could they turn communal, certainly, anything possible among the population whose ancestors are happened to be Indian origin in sub-continent.

13 million Hindus . Even attacking one temple is wrong but pls stop spreading all 13 million are being targeted. Lame really using fellow Hindus to further rss politics

Now, a few Bangladeshis are behaving as Hindutva supporters would if Bangladesh had installed a puppet government in India.

In fact, many Hindutva supporters have been acting in this manner since they gained power from the so-called invaders.

can someone provide a summary of what happened in Bangladesh, were the qoutas wrong and what lead to all this.

can someone provide a summary of what happened in Bangladesh, were the qoutas wrong and what lead to all this.

Go order wise:
  1. Since the 1971 Liberation War, Bangladesh has granted a 30% quota in civil service and public sector jobs to the descendants of those who participated in the movement to free the country from Pakistan.
  2. Students initiated demonstrations demanding the abolition of a government job quota system that allocated a significant percentage of positions to the descendants of war veterans from the 1971 independence conflict.
  3. The quota system was introduced by Prime Minister Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of Hasina, in 1972. However, in October 2018, Hasina agreed to abolish all reservations amid large-scale protests by students.
  4. In June this year, the high court nullified that decision and reinstated the quotas after petitions were filed by relatives of 1971 veterans. Following this ruling, 56% of government jobs were reserved for specific groups, including children and grandchildren of freedom fighters as well as women, and people from ‘backward districts.
  5. This triggered the recent protests, with students asking why the third generation of freedom fighters was being provided benefits, besides demanding a total merit-based recruitment
  6. Last month, the Supreme Court in Bangladesh scaled back the controversial quota system for government job applicants. In its verdict, the top court ordered 93% of the government jobs to be allocated on a merit-based system, while 7% of jobs were left for the relatives of veterans who fought in Bangladesh’s war of independence in 1971, among other categories. Earlier, the system had reserved 30% of such jobs for the relatives of war veterans.

Actually, Hasina agreed to abolish it, but the real culprit here is the High Court, which rejected the government’s decision. High Court decision triggered the students. Anyhow, the Supreme Court scaled it back. Both Hasina and the Supreme Court favor the students, so it's unclear why the students took the High Court decision so seriously and caused so much damage.

so who is at fault here? The PM or the judiciary.

Because by what you are saying, it seems like the Judiciary maybe at fault? No?

The protests started over quota, but later morphed into one over the deaths of hundreds of students, injuries of thousands, and arrests of tens of thousands in last few days of July. When there was a internet blackout, police and ruling activists killed many people, including kids shot dead in their homes
That triggered public anger to a large extent

In last few days quota was not the issue at all. And protests were all over justice for the dead people

Judiciary is at fault; there is no point in extending the quota system to the third generation of war veterans rather than allotting it on a merit basis. I still don’t understand why students took the High Court decision so seriously when the Supreme Court and the Prime Minister favored its abolition. It seems some external force played a role in agitating the riots.
Can't rule out the possibility of the US or the military being involved in this.

Alarming situation right now. The government of Bharat can not stay quiet when our brothers and sisters are getting bullied, murdered in Bangladesh.

But they were OK when Muslim BDs were being killed by Madam. This is what happens when you support dictatorships, and when they fall, anyone is associated with the regime is attacked. For what it's worth I hope The BDs don't attack their fellow citizens, whether they Hindus or Christians. This never ends well for anyone

Qouta is not that big an issue , surely the script writers in BD are more powerful and visionary than their neighbours, put TuQ, TLP and IK to shame who have been screeching Inquilab Inquilab from Vancouver to Zaman Park

I doubt they will riot in London and US and burn down a few buses and cars.
Seems like they are doing nothing apart from making a fuss online.

Indian government must try to apply pressure on the new regime if Hindi minorities lives are in danger

That is how it should be. Bring awareness to the issue. Not riot on the streets in some western nation.

Agreed. We have already seen unpleasant scenes of Hindus and Sikhs clashing in Australia and Canada due to Khalistan issue.

Hopefully this issue is contained and resolved amicably through diplomatic pressure.

Why should secular India care about hindus in another country?

Did they burn down public property and chant religion slogans?

I can confirm Hindus are not under attacks in Bangladesh at the moment. I am active in various Bangladeshi social media platforms and can confirm this is not an issue right now. This is fake news from BJP folks.

Bangladeshis are too busy celebrating Hasina's defeat. They are too busy going after Awami League leaders (Awami League has both Muslim and Hindu leaders). They are too busy in planning for the next government.

I repeat there is no Muslim vs Hindu issue in Bangladesh right now.

Some Indians get mad when non-Indians comment about their country's affairs. Why are now these same Indians getting involved in Bangladeshi internal matters? Hypocrisy much?

I think they are just mad their little agent (Hasina) has been dethroned. It is for Bangladeshi people to decide who they want to keep in power. Indians have no say.

Minorities (including Hindus) in Bangladesh are treated much better than how minorities are treated in India. They should worry about their own country first.

It seems like propaganda from India as they have lost their puppet .

They also believe this is a CIA coup & millions of Hindus will now be refugees.

On the other hand they don’t want poor suffering fellow Hindus to enter India .

This is narrative to keep the rss happy , while painting a scene of India being powerful to invade & make a new land in Bangladesh for Hindus.

Bangladesh today was victorious in a popular revolution, showing extreme bravery & love for their nation & justice for all . Historical event which will
Make it stronger . Indian whining & threats are nothing for these people right now , as you point out are rightly enjoying their victory

Some of these BJP folks are claiming there would be thousands of Hindu refugees. So funny! It is like these people live in an alternative reality.

There is no talk like that even among Hindu Bangladeshis.

why are Indians concerned about this?

As long as none of this precipitates a refugee crisis in India i am ok.

What happened to Pakistan's strategic depth in Afghanistan?

LoL. Atleast don't lie.

A handful of isolated cases are not the norms. Bangladesh have over 160-million people. A few incidents here and there don't signify anything.

If any innocent Hindu is attacked, I definitely condemn it.

This is the difference between Bangladeshis and BJP Indians. We Bangladeshis condemn when we see something wrong. BJP Indians don't condemn when their own people do bad things.

There is no Muslim vs Hindu issue in Bangladesh right at this moment.

Nonsense , I have BD muslim friends in States and they have shared numbers from Bd pages for minorities affected in any area.
Same ph numbers are shared by Bengalis of NY which are anti Hasina page of BD, even they have acknowledged the threat and issue, so puhlease, go check the pages, if there wasn’t an issue why would numbers be shared.

What happened to Pakistan's strategic depth in Afghanistan?

Pakistan is safer now than it was when Afghanistan was occupied.

India has been struggling with occupying kashmir, with your soldiers dying regularly to this day . It never works . Every country has a right to self rule , leave Bangladesh alone now ….its over ….its 2024 not 70’s. A certain statue in Bangladesh has been torn down..

Please check the terrorism reports that your Army blames Afghanistan for from 2018-2024 and you will get your answer

Pakistan is still dealing with TTP and Pak army is forced to come up with some amazing names for Operations to destroy TTP.

The same TTP that is part of Afghan Taliban.

It’s nothing compared to from 2001 . I don’t need to , see my posts on those old threads .

Are you seriously suggesting India goes into parts of Bangladesh with its Bollywood army ?

What Army, I’m talking about Afghanistan - Pakistan.

Why would India go to bD, BD is still democratic in its own way.

On this historical day for Bangladesh let’s dump Indian divert tactics & instead pls give lengthy details of Hindutva sadness & worry right now . Thanks

Some Indian posters here want India to invade BD (as if they are in charge of Indian government). Very funny.

Bunch of powerless nobodies who act like spokespeople of Indian government.

India have bigger things to worry about than invading Bangladesh. Bangladesh also have bigger things to worry about than to make it a Muslim vs Hindu issue.

well if there are worries for Hindus in BD then this will be a perfect use of that act I keep hearing about. India should take all these Hindus in since the law allows for their acceptance in India now. Should not be a worry!

Maybe India can make a Bollywood movie where they can make their dream come true (of invading Bangladesh, Pakistan, and China).

They can have fat Kareena Kapoor and old Shahrukh Khan dance on top of a lungi or something. They generally come up with strange dance ideas.

We already invaded East Pakistan and made a new country. We have movies on it. You can watch and know how new countries are created.

Leave 1971, even today it won't take Pakistan army 10 days to capture dhaka.

You guys couldn't save your own people and Indians had to come save you and your country and its people.

Then you talk big. Lol.

You don't even live in BD.

Here is one Facebook post I have just seen a few seconds ago.

Poster (a Muslim person) urged Hindus to contact them if they are getting attacked. A Muslim is trying to protect innocent Hindus. Good to see.

Screenshot 2024-08-05 171838.png

Translation: Those Hindus who are in Shatkhira. If your homes, mandirs, and businesses are attacked, please contact. We would protect with our lives in sha Allah.

This is the approximate translation. I didn't add or subtract anything. Bangla speaking Indian posters can verify the translation.

India does not invade any country. Not our style.

However, there are countries that try to invade and take territory by force only to get humiliated. Their track record is unbeatable in that.

I like you as a poster as you stick to your guns. I hope your dream of BD becoming Islamic comes true.

I would welcome any such move. It would be inspiring for the Muslims of India.
Muslims of India already have got a homeland. Its called Pak and BD. Anyone who does not like it in India can always pack their bags and go to the divine lands of Pak and BD.

The only issue is, no one wants to move there in spite of constant fear of genocide. I wonder why.

Yes what could be the reason. Because record number of indians are fleeing India for Europe, Gulf, and North America

You again started dreaming.
it all starts with a dream when faced with oppression. Iqbal had a dream as well. I am glad our forefathers turned into reality.

It is just a warning to people who victimize minorities and enforce oppressive policies. Unfortunately, our own leaders did that to East Pakistanis and the nation paid for it. Let that be a lesson. You cannot undermine other people who are different from you in their own homeland. There is always backlash. There are are people here who claim less than 1% of Indian Muslims are loyal to India. Then you wonder why you guys get criticized.

Bangladesh’s golden era seems to be over (like cricket team), with the country falling into the hands of extremists.

They may face a situation worse than Iraq and Syria.

The house of former Bangladeshi captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza has been burned by extremists in Bangladesh.

And you think they will spare minorities ?

Iraq and Syria had brutal civil war, foreign occupation, terrorism and sectarianism.

Why do you think Bangladesh will fare the same?

This could be their chance to move forward into a golden era.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) has said that Sheikh Hasina's rule had a detrimental effect on Bangladesh's independent institutions.

"These last three terms of the Sheikh Hasina government has really damaged...independent institutions, including the judiciary, the National Human Rights Commission, the police," HRW's Asia Deputy Director Meenakshi Ganguly told Reuters news agency.

"Everything had become tainted through political pressure. There needs to be a rebuilding of independent institutions. There needs to be better human rights protections."

She said people across the country were celebrating Hasina's departure because "they will feel that they have won today".

Source: https://www.bbc.com/news/live/ckdgg87lnkdt

Some golden era that was and some extremists who are fighting against oppression.

I got confirmation from Bangladeshi social media again.

Indians are spreading false information on Twitter.

Leave our country alone.

I strongly believe this will lead them forward. I actually personally wish Pakistanis had half the passion for their country that BD has shown. They have won my respect for sure. You don't lay down when faced with oppression and take it as if you have no control over your own destiny. Pakistanis have given into a select handful of elites like the ones trying to strong arm the whole nation of BD and the Bangladeshis showed them the power of the people

Did they even have a bronze era? Golden era - c'mon! This is more like the 79 Iran revolution. Bangla military will be the defacto ruler now Pak style.

I will guarantee you that nothing like that is happening, these are some isolated incidents. Yeah right! This will be a bloodbath for minorities there now..

no its not.

TTP is back in Swat. Pakistan is dealing with a Taliban issue currently.

The reason why India and Isreal get along is because the play the victim card very well.

Plight of Hindus. LOL. Hindus only have themselves to blame.

There are so many posts on SM on Bangladeshi forums itself with videos , not Indian forums And these are the saner people who are advocating against minority abuse but they are vastly outnumbered by the Islamic extremists though

Yes, by being tolerant and not forcing religion upon minorities. For what its worth , Ind is 80% Hindu majority and is secular with equal rights for all religions. Cant think I can say the same for Islamic sharia law ruled nations.

The Hindu disinformation campaign is full swing working over drive right now.

None of our business. While I wish Bangladeshi minorities well, I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

How's the caste system doing? Asking for a friend.

Resolve your divisions before lecturing others on unity.

Looking at the all our Neighbouring country's conditions like Pakistan ,Bangladesh Srilanka and Afghanistan etc thanks God I'm living in India.

We have 100th problem but this country will never fall in hand of extremists and goon.
If the comments and posts of the Hindu Indians posters here are anything to go by, I am afraid what you fear has already happened.

Your country elected a hindutva extremist that encourages mob violence against minorities in India.

You’ll know how it feels IF the next PM of Bangladesh calls for the destruction of temples.
