Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the Seoul Peace Prize on Friday in South Korea, joining a pantheon of honorees that includes German Chancellor Angela Merkel and former UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon.

He said he would contribute the prize money -- $200,000 -- to the Namami Gange fund, and dedicated the award to the Indian people.

The Seoul Peace Prize, he said, belonged not to him personally, but to the success India had achieved in the last five years powered by the skill of 1.3 billion people.

Besides Angela Merkel and Ban Ki-moon, past winners of the Seoul Peace Prize include former UN chief Kofi Annan, Bangladesh social entrepreneur Muhammad Yunus and Medecins Sans Frontieres.

ON TERROR, CROSS-BORDER STRIKES

PM Modi said that radicalisation and terrorism had become globalised and were the biggest threats to world peace -- his warning comes a week after 40 Indian paramilitary soldiers were martyred in a suicide bombing in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Like Korea, India has also suffered the bane of cross-border strikes," PM Modi said. "Our endeavor towards peaceful development has only too often been derailed by cross-border terrorism."

"While India has been the victim of cross-border terrorism for over 40 years, all nations today face this grave threat which respects no borders."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to South Korea, during which New Delhi and Seoul will seek to enhance cooperation in diverse areas, including trade and investment.

Only Indian to get it. Hopefully this is a precursor to the Nobel peace prize.

As I said, for bhakts, Modi is the only agenda. Nothing else comes close, not even India.

It was the same about Tendulkar, where they more happy for him to score and the win for Ind was just an add on.
That was because we were genuinely crap back then, unlike the case currently. Whatever silver lining we could bask in at that time, we used to do that. And there were very few of those at that time.

We could progress provided the youth of country is not distracted by some for their petty gains.

Its still heart warming to see Indians who can see through Modi. I never comment on Indian politics as its India's own internal affair but every other leader before him, even from BJP for instance Vajpayee, Modi isn't fit enough to wipe their shoes.

Nobel peace prize for a man that has made no efforts to make relationships better with his neighbour throughout his tenure?

He went to Lahore to start a peace process. The result was Pathankot Uri and now Pulwama.

Lahore was just a show for Indian planned attacks to frame Pakistan.
Amazing that a man who promoted killings mainly of muslims in Gujrat as CM 'Butcher of Gujrat' and now with all his war mongering is given such a 'prize'. He can give all the prizes he wants to himself or from his chums but the truth is he is not a man of peace for sure.

Sympathies with people and families suffered in Pathankot, Uri, Pulwama and elsewhere but if your going to kill and torture innocent Kashmiris to a massive scale for decades using an army then sadly your promoting war and backlash and you'll wrongly get inciddents like Pulwama. In a war under the Geneva convention a right to self defence in war isn't terrorim but self defence or battle in war.

I am totally against any forms of terrorism and war but the biggest promoter of war and terrorism is Indian Government and army with what they have inflicted on Kashmiris for decades. Very sad times Modi given such an award. It's like giving Trump, Netanyahu and that Burmese woman given nobel peace prizes.

So far all Indian nationalists have received the proof that Imran Khan's government and pretty much the whole world is yet to see.

The mastermind behind Gujrat genocide, the leader in Kashmir genocide gets a "peace prize". It is like Hitler getting a nobel peace prize.

For those of us who grew up watching Hollywood blockbusters like Schindler's List and reading the tales of Anne Frank's Diary, these are truly strange times. One would have thought that we would never again see the rise of leaders like Hitler, but it's not that hard to understand now.

One of the biggest terrorists the world has known- Yasser Arafat won a nobel peace prize in 1994. Obama won it when USA was waging wars in Iraq and Syria. Nothing should surprise us anymore.

These awards don't mean anything. Interesting to see what the trade-off is? Modi can sell the country at the cost of individual glory, he doesn't have a conscience. So many tribals in Gujarat were destroyed so that this megalomaniac could get the tag of master administrator and build his brand.

Gujarat is very well developed, I can understand your other points and all, but i think you need to visit Ahmedabad once and drive to other cities to see how ahead its compared to other states in infrastructure aspect, plz don't bring in tribals and all, all developed countries have taken tougerstands on infrastructure to be where they are.

This peace prize is a joke obviously

Gujarat may have great infrastructure but HDI is poor. The growth of wealth hasn't been across all strata leaving a large portion vulnerable. I don't remember exactly but before Gujarat elections I read many articles about tribals in Gujarat being worse off than tribals elsewhere. Have to recheck those, but they made for very gloomy reading. I care about all sections of the society not just the elite and middle class. Social justice, agriculture, tribal welfare, affordable healthcare, food safety, environment sustainability all should be taken into account.

No it isnt ,is my point one article doesn't make a difference, its collective which needs to be there.
I can show you 100 articles showing issues in TN but doesnt mean whole state is like that or its a complete picture, heck even in states you can read about existing issues.

You need to have broader perspective, also I understand Gujaratis are better at business which plays a big part in having so many business oriented cities, but he did help enable the ease of business and jobs, there is a reason why output is so huge in exports.
