Politics - Pakistani 2018 General Election and post-election discussion

Which will be the top party after the upcoming general elections?

PTI will do even worse this time, the urban areas in this constituency from last time have mostly been cut out and added elsewhere. Don't go by that margin though, many seats across Karachi were like that, we all know the level of rigging MQM did to win.

I think most of the urban area has been granted to NA-253 Karachi Central-1. There is a candidate named Muhammad Ashraf Jabbar contesting from PTI ticket. Mustafa Kamal will basically slaughter him, because everyone knows Mustafa Kamal in that area and he’s quite popular there.

But still Arif Alvi managed to win a seat in Karachi so wouldn’t give too much credit to dhandli.
Not just rigging, but forcing people to vote in many constituencies. My whole family in Gulshan went to vote for PTI, but came back home after stamping on the "patang" because MQM workers had a gun on them in case they voted for someone else.

Yup, this is the one seat that is pretty much guaranteed for PSP. PTI won't even be second on the seat, it'll be MQM. District Central is still very much MQM territory overall.

I wouldn’t underestimate TLP. They may win one odd seat from district central. Perhaps more than one.

No chance. Having street power does not translate to winning elections. They will steal a few thousand votes in many constituencies, maybe spoil things for some candidates, but they won't win a single seat.

Perhaps. But it’s hard to predict any win from Karachi Central. No one, except for Mustafa Kamal, stands out as a candidate with enough ‘sex appeal’.

Karachi has never been about candidates, Karachiites vote for parties. There are very limited cases in urban Karachi where people are voting based on candidate. Mustafa Kamal and Imran Khan are probably the only two, and even then, PTI had has good support in NA-243, even without Imran running.

Mustafa Kamal may be getting votes, but I can guarantee MQM will give a very tough fight, all of district Central has a massive MQM votebank, will be difficult for any party to break it.

District central had a massive MQM vote bank due to their poster boy MK. Now he in PSP. So I think they’ll vote for him. Secondly, I just realised how PPP basically divided Urdu speaking areas, putting these smaller areas into larger Balochi and Sindhi speaking areas. Now that’s just wicked. They are like evil geniuses. Also, Bilawal is now giving me Luke Skywalker vibes. Now you can guess who Zardari is.

And NY Times come up with this garbage headline? (written by Salman Masood)

Cricket Star. Sex Symbol. Prime Minister? It May Be Imran Khan’s Time.

So those wanting to know why we are against this type of FAKE opportunistic liberalism (not liberals in general). I have seen countless trash on international media mostly written by these jealous duffers who would stoop low.

I don't know if people know about Kamran Shafi who was once very active on social media against Imran Khan and then he disappeared, now i found out he is our ambassador to Cuba. Most of these love status quo for their own personal benefits.

Ha ha ha. Cuba deserve him.

Even though we probably won't form Sindh government, I am really looking forward to some of the PTI MPAs who are going to be elected. PPP had an easy time for the last 10 years, the likes of Arsalan Taj Ghumman, Khurram Sherzaman, Haleem Adil Sheikh, Irfan Jilani, Adeel Ahmed, Sidra Imran, and Dua Bhutto are going to give them hell. Add Jibran Nasir into the mix if he beats Imran Ismail, and PPP have a real problem on their hands.

One guy I really want to mention is Adeel Ahmed. Most of you won't know him, he is really new. I know him, and have talked to him many times, great guy. He was a communications guy volunteering for PTI just a few months ago, but PTI gave him the opportunity to run for office. He has run an outstanding campaign in Shah Faisal Town, and I really hope he wins, he thoroughly deserves it.

Last time, people complained that PTI have not found or backed any new faces in Karachi. This time, people should have no complaints. A good crop of young people are coming through, and they really have the potential to do something big.

Why not? Strong backing

Guys mention the 3 candidates you really want to see losing tomorrow?

Mine are these 3 in this order

Khawaja Asif

Rana Sanaullah

Khawaja Saad

Rana Sanaullah

Khwaja Asif

Abid Sher Ali

Hanif Abbasi would have been first on my list but got lot more than my expectations :))

TLP will not win a single seat. They will take away a few thousand votes from PML-N’s votebank and that’s all.

They will also probably ensure that Amir Liaquat doesn't beat Farooq Sattar in NA-245. Barelvi votebank would normally play into ALH's hands, but TLP are going to steal a few 1000 votes.

That's an interesting point, and it would be good if PSP can steal a few extra seats in that district. However, from the feedback I am getting on the ground, district central seats are very much in MQM's favour, with some PTI pockets here and there. MQM will win 3 out of 4 of these seats, but some of the provincial seats will probably go to PTI.

For me, voting for MQM is even worst than committing suicide.

Likely. This party is more of a spoiler for everyone else. It doesn’t have winning potential.

It just irks me that people are seriously voting for a party with literally no plan or policy. They only have one campaign point, "Islam, Khatam e Nubuwat, etc". They have no economic, foreign, etc policies. It just sums up the level of jahalat in Pakistan that such people are being taken seriously.

And the manner in which he was ousted shows who is pulling the strings.

If it takes someone to pull the strings to punish a known criminals who might have sold drugs to thousands ruining their lives then who cares?

I remember how this filth Hanif was almost arrested before 2013 elections but Nawaz Sharif saved him and he was awarded more projects. Nawaz pulled the strings when he had power and if someone is doing it now, people must stop crying. Either give the institutions powers to act independently or give chance to others to make things happen.

I tried convincing a TLP supporter, he agreed to most of my points but said in the end "At least by voting TLP i will register my love for Prophet PBUH..... Ab banda kya samjhaaye inko

I agree. But why not an year back or a month back. Why a couple of days before the elections.
Pulling the strings. It was wrong then and wrong now. It's not on defending a wrong thing by citing that it happened in the past

Religion has it's importance, but people in Pakistan really need to learn that religion should mostly be kept to a personal level. When it comes to elections, you need to vote for the person who will bring a real positive change to Pakistan.

Unfortunately, this is just jahalat. I know educated people whose voting intentions are based on religion too. There are even a few Shias who won't even vote because "democracy is unislamic, and a leader can only be appointed by God like Imam Ali (as) was."

I think i am being too Punjab centric so i will revise:

Abid Sher Ali is just a foul mouthed idiot who doesn't even deserve to be named.

I think more than that i would want Fazl ur Rehman to lose, would be so great if we get rid of this greedy opportunist & FAKE maulana.

Prostration at a Sufi shrine is jahalat as well. And much more than that

I am too nervous. Can't sleep. Just can't close my eyes. Hoping for a miracle here for Imran Khan..

Gonna be a long day...flashback of 2013.. When I spilled my corn flakes in anger., or despair..

Hoping Khan pulls this off somehow. He deserves a chance. Dont have much expectations from him because he is a changed man from 2011-2013.

Just want to see if he can deliver against corruption if elected (dont know how since he has shook hands with many crooks).

Asad Umar is the best man to lead Pakistan and to put country back on track.

Okay, guys. So going to the polling station in Pindi here. This is it.

All the best!

This time my facebook wall is full of people going to vote early which is great to see.

Posted emotional post in regards to elections (request to vote PTI) on my facebook tagging even distant friends. Luckily, i have bit of influence and reputation in family so getting good response from people :)

I have quite a few friends voting for PML N and some whose family are running on N tickets. Probably why I am so negative

I am going to try sleeping right after polling starts.

I know bro, my feeling exactly.

It's now or never guys! Let's do this, for those of you in Pakistan (I wish I was) help as many people you can get to the polling station. Change is needed and change will come! Pakistan Zindabad!

:pakflag2:pakflag2:pakflag2

All these years we have been asking for change, now it's time to take action! Insha'Allah aj raat ko Naya Pakistan will start becoming a reality!

March 25, 1992, Imran Khan led Pakistan to World Cup Glory.

July 25, 2018, Imran Khan will Insha'Allah lead Pakistan to it's destined pathway to stability and prosperity.

I can't sleep.. so stressed. Results will come in during an important meeting for me at work but work seems meaningless compared to this!

What sort of unprofessionalism is this, why are all polling stations not open at 8 AM?

Edit: Just heard on Samaa, whatever delay polling stations have that's how much time they will add on towards the end.

5-10 minute delays for a few. I don't think it's a big deal. They will have them open till late as well. Besides, this is only a few votes. It will really pick up after noon

Yess okay, sounds good.

When do we actually start knowing what's good in terms of results - after 6 PM right?

WTH one polling station doesn't have electricity, another one has no media coverage.

Another chor about to go cast his vote, Ayaaz Sadiq...he's competing against Aleem Khan I think
