Some Lahoris are trying to play the popular vote card, but it isn't working. It's the seats that matter after all :yk

True 8 lakh vote lya tha PTI ne Karachi se in 2013 phr be agle 5 saal troll hona pera Karachi walon ko :))

Lahoris haven’t done that bad. Look how much N league has invested in Lahore over the years but they still gave PTI 4 seats and a lot of votes.

PMLN did lot of investment in Rawalpindi too (not just Metro) but was unable to win even a single PP seat out of 15 or a single NA seat out of 6.

From what I last saw, Sheikhoo was on twitter, retweeting all praise and also retweeting people's recommendations to various cabinet positions :))
I think that account is run by someone else. Is he disappointed that IK didn’t give him interior ministry?

Just thought this might be something helpful for people to see how we're doing in Punjab.

As per my understanding about 7 MPs have officially joined PTI. Can you share your source for the 12 Inds?

It's from some PTI guys in Karachi that I am in contact with from campaigning. I am also seeing the same thing on a few very trustworthy Twitter pages.

:))

They are worried that even offers of 12-15 carore per MPA have not worked.

Most of these independents are already very rich people.

If i'm correct, Independents can join a political party within 3 days of ecp notification.

Has ECP issued the notification or not?

I don't think they have.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is bound to notify new members of the National and Provincial Assemblies within 14 days of their election.

The independent members would be asked to take a decision about joining of their party within three days of their notification as member so that they would be counted as part of their party for the election of lady seats and seats for non-Muslims in accordance o the constitution.

Then this hide and seek will linger on for several more days. Few more days of guess work and anxiety.

Abidi losing it is hilarious, especially since MQM are undecided on who to join. They might support IK even without a deal and he will cry when that happens too :)))

Also, he's not mad he lost. He's mad he got humiliated. He lost by 70k votes

The best part is the fact that he was overconfident before the elections. You should have seen his twitter feed :))

Honestly, MQM will probably join PTI in government. It is mainly the guys who did not win that are crying, otherwise I think there have been a good response from Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and co.

I might be late in saying this but what a brilliant victory speech delivered by Imran Khan.

Many of my non political friends actually rang me (Most know me in community as THE PTI supporter) and congratulated and most have become supporters after watching the speech.

At my workplace, at least 5 non Pakistanis (Indians and Australians) have talked to me about Pakistani elections and Imran Khan's speech. Local media covered it quite well and it was a big news.

His speech was awesome, and covered ALL bases. Got decent coverage here in New Zealand too, but the media here keeps on emphasising that Imran Khan was backed by the army, and it is just a change of face because the army controls things from behind. Kind of annoyed me to be honest,

Well Sharif and his cronies like Hussain Haqqani have influenced this in international media but Imran Khan's personality and charisma would crush this soon especially if he is able to perform as per his standards.
They had been doing this for a while to give impression that Nawaz Sharif is an honest fighter of democracy who is being kicked out by Army because he refused to take their instructions. This narrative easily sells in internationally because they have been speaking against Pakistan Army for a while and there is history behind political interference as well.
Also, Americans NEVER like a strong leader openly challenging their pathetic policies, Imran Khan better increase his security.

No surprise that the news here is literally quoting Hussain Haqqani directly.

I expect the international media hype to die down soon, especially if Imran Khan delivers and presents Pakistan positively.

It is partly true hopefully the army will let go of the foriegn relations once they feel the person in charge is a patriotic Pakistani

In another news, all 7 Independently elected MPAs in KPK have joined PTI (no surprises) which means PTI has 73 seats in KPK :)

That's got to be the strongest government ever formed in KPK?

Strongest in KPK without a doubt. This is really amazing because KPK is not like Punjab or Sindh where it's mostly 2 way fight, there was 5-6 way fight in quite a few constituencies (PTI, MMA, ANP, PMLN, PPP, Independent).

That's probably what delivered PTI such a strong government. If there was just one opposition party, we still would have won, but not with such a huge lead.

PPP, PML-N join hands to give Imran tough time

ISLAMABAD: The country’s two major parties — Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan Peoples Party — are set to play an ARD-like opposition role in parliament as they have agreed on formulation of a “coordinated joint strategy”, if the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf manages to form its government at the Centre.

The broad-based understanding on cooperation was reached during the first direct meeting between the leaders of the PML-N and PPP after the July 25 general elections here on Sunday.

“It was an ice-breaker,” said PML-N’s Mushahid Hussain Sayed, when asked about the outcome of the meeting held at the residence of former National Assembly speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

“It was a very good meeting and you can call it a meeting of the minds,” the PML-N leader said, adding that there was complete unanimity of views between the two parties that the “July 25 elections have been stolen”.

He said both sides were of the view that they should “completely reject” the election results and should adopt “a coordinated joint opposition strategy” to give a tough time to the Imran Khan-led PTI government while staying inside parliament.

He said the two parties would meet again on Monday as the PML-N had told the PPP representatives that it would inform them about its decision on a proposal of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) to boycott parliament. He said the PPP delegation had informed the PML-N that they were not in favour of boycotting parliament.

The PPP delegation comprised Yousuf Raza Gilani, Sherry Rehman, Qamar Zaman Kaira and Farhatullah Babar while the PML-N side was represented by Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Ayaz Sadiq, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Sardar Mahtab Ahmed Khan.

Later, the PPP delegation also held talks with Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and tried to persuade him to reverse his decision of boycotting parliament.

Talking to Dawn, Sherry Rehman said they had urged the Maulana not to boycott parliament because by “vacating the space we will be providing a walkover” to the PTI.

She said the parties had had a bad experience of boycotting the elections or parliament in the past, adding that the PPP had even questioned the credibility of the 2013 elections and the party leadership had dubbed them “RO elections”, yet they had participated fully in the parliamentary proceedings to strengthen democracy.

“We are very clear that democratic forces while condemning the polls have all the rights to sit on the seats for which they had fought very hard,” she said.

In reply to a question, Ms Rehman said consultations among the parties would continue and they were expected to have more sessions.

Both the PPP and PML-N leaders said that so far they had not discussed any strategy for the upcoming elections for key parliamentary offices of the speaker and deputy speaker, adding that such minute modalities would be discussed at a later stage.

Although the PTI has emerged as the single largest party in the National Assembly after the polls, the final results issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), however, shows that the party is still short of numbers to form its government independently. According to the results, the PTI has bagged 115 general seats — 22 short of simple majority — whereas the PML-N and PPP have won 64 and 43 seats, respectively.

Sources in the PPP and PML-N told Dawn that Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who also heads the MMA, had shown flexibility and might reverse the decision taken at a multi-party conference to boycott the oath-taking session of parliament. They said the Maulana had suggested that they should jointly field candidates for the parliamentary offices and make every effort to prevent the PTI from forming its government at the Centre.

Since the MMA has 12 seats, the combined seats of the PPP, PML-N and MMA become 117 — two more than the PTI’s number of seats.

The sources said that a joint meeting of the leaders of the three parties was also expected to be held on Monday (today).

Last time it was after the 2002 elections when the PPP and PML-N had forged an anti-government alliance — Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) — under Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan. The MMA was another opposition alliance in parliament at that time.

The members of the ARD and MMA had given a tough time to the military government of Gen Pervez Musharraf who had picked Zafarullah Jamali as the prime minister. Over 100 members of the two alliances kept parliament non-functional for a record almost one year through noisy protest against the Legal Framework Order of the military regime, forcing the government to hold talks with the opposition.

The issue was resolved when the MMA entered into an agreement with the military-led civilian regime and parliament approved the controversial 17th Constitution Amendment giving indemnity to the acts of Gen Musharraf, including the amendments he had made to the Constitution.

Political analysts and experts believe that the new parliament will be a reflection of the 2002 assembly when the government had to face a tough opposition in the form of the ARD and MMA.

Just listened to chairman BAP Jam Kamal's press conference, and they are pretty much confirmed to join federal government and are also in talks to invite PTI to form a coalition in Balochistan government.

I also heard that Shoukat Ali Laleka from PP238 will join too, but not confirmed yet.

PTI + PML-Q now on 143 seats, 6 seats short of a majority. If the news of PPP unconditionally voting for PTI is to be believed, PTI have now got the numbers to form Punjab Government.

I had speculated before elections that there might be a combined opposition alliance in KPK from all big parties, but I'm glad it didn't happen.

PML-Q seem really annoyed that the media are even considering that they could be negotiating with PML-N :13:

I'm honestly not sure how a combined opposition would have played out though. Would ANP voters vote for MMA? Or MMA voters for ANP? Or PPP voters for PML-N? and vice versa.

There is too much to speculate there. Yes, if it was simply just PTI vs MMA, or PTI vs ANP on ever seat, then I would expect the opposition to put up a much better show.

In KPK there is no opposition :)) PTI have just done a clean sweep here MashAllah.

ANd it shows, how much they have done for us that's why we have again put our trust in them.

ANd it also shows, how those people were wrong ( who claimed to be living in KPK, but actually not ) :))

PTI can effectively pass whatever they want, they have more than a two-thirds majority!

And if you have noticed, some people are gone back into their caves when they saw victory of PTI in KPK :)))

PTI is putting trust in PML-Q, but i dont think its a wise idea. Chouhadary brothers will stab PTI in the back for sure or they will ask for CMship of Punjab.

Alhamdulillah! we have crossed the landmark of 10K posts.

Just woow. I have total of 1500 posts but am sure my 5,600 posts came from this thread. :))

does anyone have the site where you can view all the results of all the seats with number of votes for each member

As predicted many times, greed of this Jutt family ruined 2 SURE NA seats (and 2 PP seats) for PTI :12::12:

NA 162

PMLN 82,000
Ayesha Jutt 65,000
PTI 59,000

So this was 100% confirmed seat for PTI as ticket was given to Ayesha by PTI

NA 163

PMLN 70,000
PTI 57,000
Arifa Jutt 30,000

This was also guaranteed win with Jutt family's help as their candidate only got 30,000 but PTI lost by 13000

I hope they are kicked out now forever, their family still would have won 1 NA and 2 PP seats if it wasn't for their extreme greed.

Imran Khan summoned before ECP today over controversial vote casting

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan is summoned to appear before the Election Commission of Pakistan today for casting his vote in violation of the code of conduct during the general election 2018.

The ECP issued a notice to the PTI chief for violating the secrecy of ballot after he, surrounded by his friends and supporters, openly cast his vote in the NA-53 constituency on July 25. Instead of going behind the voting screen to cast his vote in secrecy, Imran was seen publicly stamping the ballot paper on the table with TV cameras filming him.

Neither the presiding officer nor other polling staff objected to the violation.

According to Section 185 of the Election Act, a person can be given a six-month jail sentence and/or fine of Rs1,000 for not casting their vote in secrecy.

‘Polling staff to be blamed’

PTI leader Naeemul Haque has placed the blame for Imran’s controversial vote casting on the polling staff present at the occasion.

Speaking on Geo News programme ‘Capital Talk’, Haque argued that there was no place to cast vote in private as the polling booth had become crowded far beyond its capacity, for which the polling staff are to be blamed.

Earlier, PTI leader Faisal Javed also defended the party chairman saying that Imran was not at fault for the mistake during casting his vote. He said that media personnel were present inside the booth and it was the job of the polling station’s staff to stop them.

The Imran Khan-led PTI witnessed a resounding triumph in the country's general election, whereas rival parties planned protests over alleged vote rigging.

The PTI won 116 National Assembly seats in the ballot, short of the 137 needed for a simple majority but a surprisingly strong showing that helped fuel suspicion of rigging.

Exactly. Their greed is just too much. Their family got 3 tickets but they wanted more. No other family in Punjab or elsewhere got three PTI tickets.

PTI + PML-Q now on 143 seats, 6 seats short of a majority. If the news of PPP unconditionally voting for PTI is to be believed, PTI have now got the numbers to form Punjab Government.

Not sure how true this is, but PML-Q also roped in one independent. That means we're now on 144 seats, and just 5 seats away from winning a majority. Expect good news soon!

Inshallah we should have Punjab in the bag by late evening today guys, inshallah.

I can also confirm that Imran will start to announce his key ministries team from tomorrow onwards.

Imran Khan says will take oath as premier on Aug 11

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said that he will take oath as prime minister on August 11, Radio Pakistan reported on Monday.

Khan shared this information while talking to the newly elected lawmakers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Islamabad. He said that the name for the slot of KP chief minister will be announced soon.

Speaking on Sindh, he said alleviation of poverty from interior Sindh will be among the top priorities of PTI government.

Although the PTI has emerged as the single largest party in the National Assembly after the polls, the final results issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) show that the party is still short of numbers to form its government independently. According to the results, the PTI has bagged 115 general seats — 22 short of simple majority — whereas the PML-N and PPP have won 64 and 43 seats, respectively.

To meet the required number of votes, the PTI leadership has reportedly been approaching the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), PML-Quaid (PML-Q), and the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), as well as independents.

Meanwhile, two major parties — Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan Peoples Party — have agreed on formulation of a “coordinated joint strategy” if the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf manages to form its government at the centre.

Pims private ward where Nawaz is under treatment declared sub-jail

After former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was shifted from Adiala jail to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) due to health complications late Sunday night, the Islamabad chief commissioner declared the private ward of Pims' cardiac centre — where Sharif is being treated — as sub-jail.

A notification issued by the office of the Islamabad chief commissioner — dated July 29 — said that the capital city's administration had decided to declare premises of the Pims Cardiac Centre's private ward "as sub-jail for keeping Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif, convicted prisoner in NAB case with immediate effect".

The private ward will serve as sub-jail until the time Nawaz is kept there for medical treatment.

The capital's police will provide security to the convicted three-time premier, according to the notification.

Following news of Nawaz's health complications, PTI chairman Imran Khan prayed for Sharif’s recovery and directed party workers to stay away from the premises of Pims and not to hold any demonstration against the ousted premier.

Sharif, who is serving a 10-year jail term after being convicted for owning assets beyond income in the Avenfield reference, was shifted from Adiala Jail to Islamabad's Pims after developing serious cardiac complications on Sunday.

Dr Naeem Malik, head of the Pims cardiology department, had suggested that authorities shift Sharif to the hospital as his blood tests showed clotting which, according to the doctor, was an alarming sign considering his medical history. The PML-N supremo lives with diabetes and has also undergone bypass surgery. He currently takes medication for his heart condition, cholesterol and diabetes.

Sharif's personal physician also reached Adiala Jail to examine him. Later, a meeting between Sharif and his daughter Maryam and son-in-law retired Capt Mohammad Safdar took place to discuss his health condition.

Extraordinary security arrangements were made ahead of Sharif's arrival. Walk-through gates, CCTV cameras and mobile jammers were installed in the hospital, along with the deployment of security forces.

Great news if true! Congratulations everyone!

Maybe due to rural area and the holds the Sardars have in playing the Baluch card, the message of IK has no resonance.

Maybe message of IK has no resonance because he didn't even bother to visit Balochistan during the election campaign and only visited after the Mastung attack.

I hope BAP proves me wrong, but they are effectively a party completely made up from PML-Q and PML-N electables, who simply travel from party to party in search of the best deal. These people have done nothing for Balochistan.

This is the problem with BAP - the party is just an establishment backed vehicle for electables. These people have left Balochistan stranded in the darkness but are happy to cash in on the Baloch discrimination card when the time comes for elections (https://www.dawn.com/news/1408175/j...bap-chief-urges-unity-for-balochistans-rights). Most posters here aren't that interested in Balochistan or in Balochistans issues, but with BAP in power, things are unlikely to change in Pakistans biggest province.

Very shortsighted from PTI to not have actively campaigned in Balochistan.

Syed1 PML-N was the most popular party in 2013 elections, yet we would both (I hope) agree that it was bad for its people.

Last time, PML-N, PML-Q, and PKMAP were in power (BAP is just PML-N and PML-Q people from that coalition). PML-N and PML-Q had 35 seats between them in coalition, and could even have governed without PKMAP. This time, BAP are short of the amount needed for a coalition by a good 8 seats, meaning important cabinet positions could go to PTI, HDP, and ANP. Do you think other parties, like PTI, HDP, and ANP in the mix and make at least some difference?

And do you think BNP would have been better than BAP?

PML-N trying their very best to make things difficult for PTI forming federal government. Mohammad Zubair meeting with Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui today, Jahangir Tareen also rushing to Karachi now.

Great i hope Pervez Elahi meet IK soon so we get a better idea

Meeting is due today and some reports says Showbaz has offered Pervez Elahi CMship......

Parvaiz Elahi and Moonis Elahi have both denied wanting CM'ship.

PML-Q had a meeting last night, and they have already decided that they will go with PTI and strengthen their ties with them. It is pretty much confirmed now, just waiting for the formal announcement.

I think BAP is going to join PTI.

They are definitely joining PTI. Jam Kamal said in his presser that they WILL join federal government as many issues in Balochistan need sorting from the federal level, and they want to have a good working relationship with the federal government.

Ali Zaidi to be IT minister? :13:

I'm not happy with this.

We need a forward thinking dynamic IT Minister with excellent pedigree in this area.

Someone who can accelerate Pakistan's internet and broadband throughout the country and who can really make information technology an integral part of institutions such as banking, education and health so that Pakistan has an IT infrastructure that makes the lives of people easier.

PMLN-PPP can promise to give PTI a tough time all they want, let's see how they do it from jail when NAB gets them all. :))
Bewal Express, just read your exchange with Schultz where you said 'I thought you were a Noora' made me laugh for some reason :91: As i thought the same

So, officially, PTI and PML-Q are sitting on 148 seats. From what I know, they are actually on 151, but the last three won't officially be joining PTI today.
