Since MQM and PTI are in an alliance I'd expect MQM to not put up a candidate, but we'll see.

They'd definitely put up a candidate and in turn have the gall to ask PTI to not field one.

MQM is not to be trusted. Every day in the run up to the house elections, I wish PTI had won those 12-odd close seats in central Punjab/Sialkot so we wouldn't have to rely on these snakes.

The showboating on Twitter doesn't make things easier either.

This and Jutt family and Dasti's arrogance also resulted in loss of 4 easy seats. PPP took 3-4 South Punjab seats so easily

I hope these two PTM members don't join pti. We are better off without these clowns

Mohsin Dawar posting toxic stuff on twitter against Army, showing burned Qurans to cause unrest.

Didnt he get ticket during the general elections... I thought he got PS ticket

He was going to get a PS ticket, but then PTI decided against it. They probably decided that Imran Khan will leave his Karachi seat long ago, so they had Alamgir Khan as the bye election candidate.

Alamgir Khan would have been better off contesting for provincial seat and getting involved in management of the city

This is such a long interlude.

It seems as if the elections were a million years ago already. No wonder no one votes in the by-election.

Imran having an important meeting at 3pm Pakistan time. He may be confirming his cabinet and ministers.

MQM are also on their way to Bani Gala.

ECP set to void two polls over low women turnout

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is set to void polls, and their results, in two national assembly constituencies over low turnout of female voters.

“A summary has been moved to the Commission by the ECP secretariat recommending that the polls in NA-10 (Shangla) and NA-48 (North Waziristan) — where women votes were less than 10 per cent of the total polled votes — be declared void,” a source in the ECP told Dawn on Thursday.

Read: Thari women set example for all with nearly 73% turnout in 2018 elections

The number of registered voters in a constituency includes both men and women who have registered to vote. The 10pc law was passed to ensure that women participated in the polls, and were not marginalised or coerced into not voting. According to the rules, if among the total votes cast in a constituency, the share of women in the final count is less than 10pc, the results of the polls may be declared void.

In NA-10 (Shangla) the total number of registered voters is 374,343. Out of the 212,294 male voters, 115,639 (54 pc) cast their votes while only 12,663 women from the total registered 162,049 female voters turned up to vote. The total votes cast in the constituency was 128,302 and the 12,663 female votes was less than 10pc of the total votes.

Ibadullah Khan of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz had won the seat by clinching 34,070 votes in a closely contested battle with Saeed ur Rahman of the Awami National Party who bagged 32,665 votes. It was one of 44 constituencies where the number of rejected votes was higher than the margin of victory.

In NA-48 (Tribal Area) the total number of registered voters was 274,205. Out of the 196,668 male voters, 57,600 (29.28 pc) and out of a total 77,537 female voters just 6,364 (8.19 pc) turned up to vote. Women voters fell short of just 32 votes to attain the 10pc share in the total polled votes. The seat was won by Mohsin Javed — an independent — by securing 16,496 votes defeating the PTI’s Aurangzeb Khan who managed 10,369.

There were many other constituencies where the turnout for women voters remained low, but above the yardstick of 10pc of the total vote. In NA-44 (Tribal area), out of the total 114,261 female voters, just 10,849 voted. The total number of registered voters in the constituency was 265,217, which included 150,956 men — 59,295 (37.29pc) of them voted.

Likewise, in NA-49 (Tribal area VIII) out of the total 81,207 registered female voters, merely 12,001 women turned up to vote. In NA-50 (Tribal area IX) just 7,513 of the total 44,865 registered female voters exercised their right to vote. In NA-33 (Hangu), out of the total 118,650 women voters 22,001 cast their votes.

In NA-268 (Chaghai) out of the total 99,613 women voters, 20,606 voted. Surprisingly, the female turnout in terms of percentages — relative to the total registered votes — was higher than the men. Out of the total 134,678 male registered voters in the constituency just 27,618 (20.65pc) polled their votes.

In as many as 18 constituencies, the women voters’ turnout was higher in terms of percentage against male voters. In NA-271 (Tharparkar i) 72.83pc of the total registered voters cast their votes. The proportion of male voters in the constituency was 65.39 percent. NA-222 (Tharparkar II) was similar — with a positive that this was the only constituency where over seventy percent of the voters, both male and female, exercised their right to vote. 71.40pc of the registered female voters and 70.51pc of the male voters cast their votes. In NA-56 (Attock) 63.03pc of the women polled their votes compared to 62.19pc male voters. In NA-186 (Muzaffargarh VI) 61.85pc women and 58.85pc men polled their votes. In NA-1 (Chitral) 61.57pc female and 60.49pc male voters exercised their vote.

In NA-64 (Chakwal I) 60.72pc women and 55.67pc men turned up to vote. Other constituencies where women voter turnout was higher than the men included NA-46, NA-58, NA-65, NA-66, NA-67, NA-68, NA-70, NA-71, NA-72, NA-74, NA-76, and NA-77.

Still however — overall — there were many constituencies where women represented less than one-third of the total votes cast that showcases that we are from inclusive elections in the country.

MQM-P delegation reaches Bani Gala after successful talks with Tareen

ISLAMABAD: A delegation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) reached Bani Gala to meet PTI chief Imran Khan after holding successful talks with party leader Jahangir Khan Tareen on Friday.

Accompanied by PTI leader Imran Ismail, the delegation had left Karachi for Islamabad earlier today to hold talks with PTI leaders about forming a government at the centre.

Party convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, who is leading the MQM-P delegation, presented his party's demands to Tareen in exchange for joining the treasury benches with PTI, sources informed Geo News.

After successful conclusion of the first round of talks with PTI leaders Arif Alvi and Tareen, the delegation is now holding an important meeting with Imran at his residence in Bani Gala.

The MQM-P team includes Amir Khan, Faisal Subzwari, Waseem Akhtar, and Kunwar Naveed Jamil.

MQM-P had earlier decided to join PTI to form the federal government.

Siddiqui while speaking on Geo News programme ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath’, confirmed his party’s leaning after the results of the General Election 2018.

“The Pakistan Peoples’ Party does not need anyone in Sindh. The MQM-P will sit alongside the PTI on government benches,” he had said. “We respect everyone’s mandate and want everyone to respect ours.

He said that after a ‘series of experiences’ it was unlikely to join the PPP.

The MQM-P clinched 16 seats in the Sindh Assembly in the July 25 general election, and has six seats in the National Assembly. The PTI had invited the party to join it in the centre.

Eight of 13 independent MNAs with PTI

A total of eight independent candidates elected to the National Assembly have joined PTI so far, party spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry claimed on Friday.

A total of 13 independents won seats in the National Assembly during the general election on July 25. Six of these have already joined the PTI.

The number of converts, however, is set to rise as two more independent MNAs-elect are in talks to join the Imran Khan-led party, Chaudhry said.

The PTI chairman has summoned an important meeting at 3pm today, where party leaders would discuss how to go about forming a government in the centre and provinces with allies.

Among the leaders to attend the meeting are PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Tareen, who has been wooing the victorious independent candidates and other parties following the PTI’s triumph in the election.

MQM-P are snakes of the highest order and it is a great tragedy that we are having to shake hands with them.... still rueing PTI electoral performance in certain areas of Punjab specially the "educated" folks of Lahore who didn't vote for PTI and instead chose to vote for the Nooras

We lost 6 to 7 confirmed seats from Punjab thanks to ticket allocations blunder.

Too many people in Imran's ear.

That's where we need someone with a big stick to be by IK's side. Who do you suggest for the job? Who's feared and respected enough that nobody would dare try a chinese whisper and ensure everyone is pushing in the same direction?

Asim,

The thing is Imran needs someone as his right hand man who can give him honest and sincere advice, particularly regarding Punjab.

SMQ: Known to favour his clan and has given Imran bad advice imo. When it came to ticket allocations in Multan some of his nepotism came to the fore. This was the reason behind his tension with JKT.

JKT: A very good doer and a massive support for Imran and PTI. Deserves huge credit for operation "secure the independents" but politically not very astute as shown by his blunder by naming Balochistan CM without speaking to Imran.

Asad Umar: Future PTI leader but doesn't possess political negotiation skills and doesn't have the energy that JKT has. Performance as finance minister will make or break him.

Naaem ul Haque: Very sincere guy but not a political worker. Questionable temperament.

Chaudhry Sarwar: Easily Imran's biggest asset IMO. Think of JKT but with political acumen and true international political influence. Perhaps SMQ is a stumbling block for him in truly getting through to Imran at the level he should be.

Thanks for this breakdown, from what little I know (mainly gauged from the knowledgable posters on here) I'd agree with everything you've said. Ch. Sarwar is capable,I remember him as an MP in UK, and was shocked to realise he was the same guy. I recall him rescuing some girls who were being led into a forced marriage and also there was a murder where some lads escaped to Pakistan, and he brought them back to face justice in the UK, so he's very capable.

Aside from Naeem, all the others have either been in other parties or only joined PTI recently, I wonder if this is an issue why there isn't a bonafide number 2?

MQM and PTI doing a press conference now. A memorandum of understanding has been signed, and they will both get into a coalition together now.

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui seems a lot more level-headed and calm than the likes of Ali Raza Abidi, Faisal Subzwari, and Farooq Sattar, so I hope they stay relatively calm throughout this coalition government.

Yes Chaudhry Sarwar is the same guy who brought those three lads back for that murder in Glasgow.

He really is a massive asset for PTI.

Yes there is not a bonafide number 2. That's the problem.

SMQ likes to think he is the number 2 but if he ever was to take over PTI then that would be the downfall of PTI.

Asad Umar really isn't leadership material at the moment. If he does spectacular things as a finance minister then that would push his chances.

Imran needs to look out for a young leader from the age of 35 to 50 to lead PTI from 10 years from now.

At the moment there is a trickle of these leaders coming through particularly from the young women in PTI.

Was really impressed with him at the Press conference in Karachi, him and JKT really complemented each other really well against a pack of vipers in the press.

It really feels like PTI and MQM will form a good working relationship and understanding. If we forget about the old MQM with Altaf Hussain, Bhatta Khori, etc, MQM's core values and policies are very similar to PTI. On paper, they should be able to work well together.

Completely agree.

Also don't forget Imran is the leader of the country now. He is not like Nawaz Sharif who left Karachi alone(apart from 90s operation). If things go awry he as PM can take control and launch operarions at a federal level and even enforce Governor Rule in Karachi.

Zartaj Gul has been spectacular, I can see her playing a significant role in a few years, if she's managed to get ppl on her side and against the Sardars, that's about as difficult as it's likely to be, I know IK has taken a great interest in her and it's led to jealousy from some lol.

How about someone like Faisal Vawda? He defeated Shehbaz, so maybe now with that behind him he's got confidence. Maybe a little too hard hitting & blunt.

Zartaj Gul is the exact person I've been thinking about and she is definitely future PM Material.

She's only 32 so she has another 20 years to gain experience(if not sooner) and become the PTI leader.

But the problem is guys like SMQ will need to move aside. He is already grooming his son.

Faisal Vawda is very good and a massive asset in Karachi but I don't think he possesses the temperament or nuance for the top spot, unless he develops these skills in the next few years.

I'm a big fan of Zartaj Gul. Imran Khan and PTI really need to keep a lookout for young leaders in the party who can potentially take up top leadership positions in the future, including prime ministership.

Zartaj Gul is definitely on my list of people who could be future PM. We just need to ward of oppurtunists like SMQ and all. That is why I say CM Punjab should be a nazrayati leader, because it will set the right precedent. Once PTI start giving preference to ideological workers in ticket allocation, leadership, etc, we will have a truly genuine party in Pakistan.

If they are looking for a future leader, I know of a cricketer with leadership credentials who supports PTI and will be looking for a new job soon, might be ideal opportunity for him.

I honestly think with some media training Faisal could be great, maybe not in the top leadership position, but an important minsterial portfolio, maybe starting with Mayor of Karachi with IK has proposed and then stepping up to National level. I love the fire in his belly. I honestly thought he was one of the problems in Karachi for PTI, and really underestimated him but the way he's proved me wrong has really made me a beleiver.

Agree, we've awoken the awaam and the numbers the young tigers and tigresses put up againt established politicians, whereas the lotas and electables failed, tells me Pakistan is ready for politicians with PTI DNA imprinted in them.

Very reasonable, sounds like they want what's best for Karachi/Hyderabad. Number 3 is very vague though.

Not happy with the 3rd point. Karachi operation is one of the main reasons why we won so many seats. We can’t undo all the good work which brought peace in Karachi.

IK is really serious about education and it looks like on top of his list. After British high commissioner now Japanese ambassador also said they are ready to help 22 million out of school kids to get education. I guess IK is asking every ambassador meeting him to help Pakistan handles this situation.

Army has full control over security policy so they won't let any party intefer in any security suitation. The army operation against mqm militant is fully completed, it's about not letting that militant wing back.

If the karachi peace is lost again because of PTI then I will never vote for Imran again.

ISF leader and MNA elect Farrukh Habib has potential but currently I would rate Hammad Azhar higher.
Hammad Azhar has energy, skills and philosophy of a leader.

I don’t believe Imran Khan would ever let that happen. I’m more concerned about MQMs blackmailing. They will use that point to cry and blackmail IK.

Asad Umar can be PTI’s next leader. PTI supporters will vote for him. However he needs to get involved in day to day politics.

If the peace is compromised because of Imran being blackmailed then he will face a huge defeat.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf one more federal seat as the Election Commission of Pakistan rectified its data entry error, sources within the institution informed Geo News.

The ECP in its website showed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaniyat won a seat in the polls held on July 25, the seat in actual was won by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

With the addition of one more seat, the PTI is now leading the seat tally with 116 seats.

PTI needs a simple majority of 172 members in its favor to get its chief Imran Khan elected as the next prime minister of Pakistan. With one more seat under its belt and support of eight independents, the party's seat tally now stands at 124, at least on paper.

Imran's party is expected to get 27 and five reserved women and minority seats on its claimed 123 seats. With the addition, PTI's seat share stands at 155 marks. But as Imran has to withdraw four seats, Major Tahir Sadiq and Ghulam Sarwar Khan to leave one each the tally shrinks to 149.

Sheikh Rasheed and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid's support will boost the numbers to 154. Alliance with Balochistan Awami Party and Grand Democratic Alliance will take the party to 161 seats.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan's support of six general and women reserved seat will take the Imran-led alliance to 168 seats.

PTI has claimed that Balochistan National Party (Mengal), Tehreek-e-Insaniat and Jamhori Watan Party will put their weight behind Imran. Their votes will take the alliance to 173 seats, making Imran eligible to secure premiership.

BNP hasn’t confirmed that they will support PTI.

IK is really serious about education and it looks like on top of his list. After British high commissioner now Japanese ambassador also said they are ready to help 22 million out of school kids to get education. I guess IK is asking every ambassador meeting him to help Pakistan handles this situation.

His first tweet since he won the elections a week ago

And here is the official MoU between PTI and MQM.

Nothing unreasonable. Looking forward to seeing them work together!

Don't agree with points 3 and 9 - at all.

The Rangers operation has been absolutely vital in restoring normalcy to the city. It absolutely should not be up for review or anything, particularity from the side of the party that it had been launched against.

Point 9 is very vague, if election audit involves thumbprint verification (which it most likely does), NADRA won't be able to verify about half of the prints due to technical limitations. MQM will use this as a rallying cry for having their mandate stolen and thus undermine PTI's stake in Karachi and question their electoral performance. I won't be surprised if MQM leaves the coalition once the foggy results of the audit come in.

I am really not liking this alliance with MQM.

SMQ for NA Speaker? Rumors in market

Would that be good?

I think we need someone experienced and strong to be speaker, considering that we will have a strong and hostile opposition to deal with. Mian Mohammad Soomro would be a good choice in my opinion.
