Too short for my liking but there it is.

2 match series which will be played under the cloud of the current economic/political crisis in Sri Lanka as well as Covid 19

Pakistan squad for Sri Lanka Tests: Babar Azam (captain), Mohammad Rizwan (vice-captain, wicketkeeper), Abdullah Shafique, Azhar Ali, Faheem Ashraf, Fawad Alam, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Nawaz, Naseem Shah, Nauman Ali, Salman Ali Agha, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wicketkeeper), Saud Shakeel, Shaheen Afridi, Shan Masood and Yasir Shah

First Test starts on 16th July

I think we may see 1-1.

Pakistan are better but Sri Lanka are also very good at home.

sri lanka are terrible but this batting line up, especially the lower middle order, can collapse against any attack. wd love a pak win, but most like 1-1.

I am concerned that Pakistan is in Sri Lanka in these dangerous times. Even the Country’s President’s and PM’s homes are not safe, that clearly shows that even the highest level of security in Sri Lanka can be easily breached!!!

Pakistan's spinners aren't better than Lanka's. It's entirely a spin game. Even Cummins has done nothing here.
SL will atleast win one game which means Pakistan won't win the series.

Surprisingly Australia is still playing. Hopefully thing settle down in a few days.

Pak can't play spin and Sri Lanka have a very potent spin attack for home conditions

1-0 lanka

Will be a little embarrassing if Pakistan lose this series.

Hardly embarrassing. They are giving the Aussies a tough time who are a lot better than us

6 expired players (Hasan Ali, Azhar, Nauman, Yasir, Sarfraz, Fawad) in the team. Sl should win 2-0. Would be good if we can get rid at least 3 of them.

1-0 SL are test team is so negative and spinners so poor we will lose the series. Add to that batting snails like imam and Azhar and its asking for poor team results.

It won’t be we are a mediocre team and haven’t won a test in SENA for years lost at home recently aswell it will take another decade with the current set up to bridge the gap with the top teams.

The way Pakistan bat at the moment in tests can see us getting into a hole very quickly batting at a snails pace 80 odd of 30 overs or something then crumbling against the spin.

Changed my mind im going 2-0 SL now.

Yep Lanka 2-0

Unfortunately I have to agree.

1. Sri Lanka coming off a big win and in good form and plenty of practice
2. Home conditions
3. SL has excellent spinners and Pak spinners are dire
4. Pakistan batsmen suspect against spin
5. Pace bowling will be ineffective in SL

2-0 to Lankans

Sri Lanka are difficult to beat in their home conditions.I am sure they are going to prepare rank turners.Sri Lankan spinners are much better than Pakistani spinners. Why is Pakistan not giving chances to young spinners?.

Think we should go with 3 spinners anyway. Yasir, Nouman, Nawaz.

Let's hear some names then?

Let's hear some names then?

Zahid Mehmood is a brilliant legspinner in domestics. Has bog turn and good googly.
Zafar Gohar, M Asghar are good lefties.
Bilal Asif is decent as off spinner.
All very experienced in domestics/A Tours

2-0 SRL
We'd select poor spinners, timid batsmen and an out-of-form Hasan Ali.

Initially, I said 2-0 to Pakistan but after watching Jayasuriya bowl I'm impressed. He might turn out to be another Herath against Pakistan.

This trip of Mendis, Jayasuriya and Theeksana and similar pitches and SL should back themselves to beat Pakistan.

If we continue to play cowardly Misball cricket then 2-0 to Sri Lanka and deservedly so.

Zahid Mahmood is at least 34 years old, why are you calling him a young spinner? Well he is younger than the other name you mentioned in Bilal Asif who is practically in his retirement home. Zafar Gohar is currently playing county cricket and looking extremely ordinary, why would we pick him? Asghar may be worth a shot but he cannot bat at all and nothing suggests he is going to be a worldbeater with the ball.

Pak might lose this one due to no planning for the future.

All top teams around the world have at least one veteran spinner and one emerging.

Pakistan, otoh, never plan

Anyways, it is a win-win for me personally. If Pak win 2-0 then I'll be happy and if SL win it 2-0 I won't be sad as Sri Lankans need some good news due to corrupt politicians!

It is a weird timeline when Pak batters can play pace better than spin!

This Jayasuria guy is lethal!

Pakistan will have to play spin well. I think 2-0 to Pakistan is very much possible with a bit of luck.

Spinners are expected to play the decisive role.

Sri Lanka have better spinners than Pakistan. So, Sri Lanka are probably slightly more favorites.

Sri Lanka skipper Dimuth Karunaratne on Monday said Dinesh Chandimal's double century in their series-levelling Test win over Australia was a good sign ahead of a tougher challenge against Pakistan.

Chandimal hit an unbeaten 206 in Sri Lanka's thrashing of the tourists by an innings and 39 runs in the second Test in Galle to end the series level at 1-1.

Debutant spinner Prabhat Jayasuriya took a match haul of 12 wickets to bundle out Australia for 151 in the final session of day four.

But it was Chandimal who set up victory with a batting assault to reach his maiden double ton with a four and two sixes off Mitchell Starc as Sri Lanka posted 554 all out.

"I told Chandi to come up with a big knock. Last few years he was not very successful," Karunaratne said of his senior batsman, who has been in and out of the national side.

"When your senior player gives a knock like that, as captain it makes things easy for me. Angelo (Mathews) can fail, I can fail but I know that someone will fire for us. That's a good sign for series that's ahead."

Sri Lanka next host Pakistan, who are already in the island nation playing a practice game, for two Tests starting Saturday in Galle.

Sri Lanka's big win gives them confidence ahead of the opener but Karunaratne said Pakistan would be a stronger force than the Aussies, with their ability to handle spinners better.

"Pakistan is a strong side, a brilliant team," said Karunaratne. "I think it will be more challenging than Australia. They play spin well."

Skipper Babar Azam has been in top form, scoring consistently including a 196 against Australia at home in March.

Opener Imam-ul-Haq has also been among the runs and Pakistan have bolstered their bowling attack by bringing veteran spinner Yasir Shah back into the team.

Dangerous at home are Sri Lanka as they have recently shown against Australia.

Sri Lanka might not have the greats of yesteryear but they will be a tough side to beat.

1-1 I reckon.

Will be interesting too see what combination Pak go with. Will it be Yasir, Nauman and 2 pacers plus Fahim or Yasir/Nauman plus Nawaz/Salman and 3 pacers(no Fahim) or Yasir, Nauman and Nawaz/Agha plus 2 pacers?

Imam
Abdullah
Azhar
Babar
Fawad
Rizwan
Nawaz
Fahim/Agha
Yasir
Shaheen
Hasan/Naseem

I'd go with this. I think Nauman is too harmless to cause any troubles. Nawaz can provide the similar SLA defensive option with some added batting bonus.

Pak should win 2-0. SL is fairly decent team and will beat, BD, AFG and WI consistently. They will struggle against India and Pak.

I don’t see 2-0 to Pakistan at all.

The question is not who you want to win but predict who will win.

Heart vs head.

I am really worried about Pakistan’s ability to play spin on spinning wickets.

1-0 to Sri Lanka is my call.

I doubt the SL top and middle order is flash against pace and reverse swing which SS Afridi, ali and the other pak pacers are bound to get in asian conditions. will be a tight series but i think pak will prevail.

I would now go with

Imaam
Abdullah
Azhar
Babar
Fawad
Rizwan
Agha
Nawaz
Yasir Shah
Shaheen
Naseem

SL always has a chance to pull off one Test win when they are playing at home. The logical score line would either be 1-1 or 1-0 to one of the teams if rain intervenes.

Sri Lanka 18-member squad for the series:

1. Dimuth Karunaratne - Captain
2. Pathum Nissanka
3. Oshada Fernando
4. Angelo Mathews
5. Kusal Mendis
6. Dhananjaya de Silva
7. Kamindu Mendis
8. Niroshan Dickwella (Wk)
9. Dinesh Chandimal (Wk)
10. Ramesh Mendis
11. Maheesh Theekshana
12. Kasun Rajitha
13. Vishwa Fernando
14. Asitha Fernando
15. Dilshan Madushanka
16. Prabath Jayasuriya
17. Dunith Wellalage
18. Jeffrey Vandersay

Zahid Mehmood is 34, Bilal Asif is 35. Is that your definition of young?

Pakistan to loose the series by 2-0. Babar, Abdullah, Imam & Rizwan all will flop because they're bad against spin & SL do have very good spinners.

Fawad will have a decent series & because of that we will have to suffer him & his awful stance for few more years. Azhar Ali might perform well but either way he's not going anywhere unless he plays 100 tests.

In bowling Shaheen & Naseem won't be effective because of lack of assistance from the pitch. Less said about our spin department is better. We really have a minnow level in spin bowling, on par with Ireland & Zimbabwe.

:)

Well done to Pakistan - lets win this series now

The key is the selection for the 2nd test. If Shan is not picked, the selectors need shooting.
As a minimum, drop Azhar and Agha (both permanently). Shan at 3. Saud Shakeel at 5. Job done.

What will happen in reality is the selectors will only drop Azhar when he begs to be dropped or becomes a grandparent. And they will bring in Fawad for Agha.
Cowardly and spineless selectors.

1-1 is a fair result although we are lucky didn't end up at 2-0 to SL!

1-1 is a fair result.

This series has shown both sides are at the same level when it comes to Test.
