Prime Minister Imran Khan visited the General Headquarters, Rawalpindi on Thursday morning for a security briefing, the army's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said in a tweet.

"Prime Minister Imran Khan arrived to visit GHQ. Received on arrival by COAS [Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa]. PM being briefed on defence, internal security and other professional matters," ISPR said.

"Ministers of Defence, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Information and Minister of State for Interior are accompanying the PM," it added.

The Thursday meeting follows PM Khan and Gen Bajwa's first-ever official interaction as chief executive and army chief on Monday this week at the Prime Minister's Office.

A statement following their meeting had stated that the two had pledged to work closely for establishment of peace in the country and the region.

They “expressed resolve to bring enduring peace and stability in the country while also continuing efforts for regional peace”, the Prime Minister Office had said in a statement.

Although the Monday meeting was supposed to be a courtesy call, the focus of discussion, it is said, had quickly shifted to security in the country and the neighbourhood.

The first question the Nooras thought of is- did he use the helicopter? I bet not single one cared for what was discussed. This is how desperate they have become.

Don't confuse him for your beloved Noora. Nobody will be deposing an Alpha, non ****** holder like IK.

:91:

If Mr. Alpha takes a stand against the military, be prepared for the Sita White case to resurface along with the foreign funding case that Mr. Alpha has been running from for four years now.

This is how it works in Pakistan. No PM has survived when he or she stopped dancing to the GHQ tunes and decided to tackle issues on their terms.

When Junejo took notice of the lavish lifestyle of the military elite, he went to China on a trip. When he returned, he was told that he is no longer the PM and that his government has been dissolved. This is the amount of power the men in boots hold in Pakistan.

Either through a direct coup or by using the judiciary system, they always get what they want in the end. Imran Khan has to tread carefully - like all PMs in the past, bravado will not take him anywhere.

It is unfortunate, but this is how the system works in Pakistan. Imran is Army's puppet now, just like Nawaz and Benazir were before him, and if he decides to stand up to their bullying, he will suffer the same fate.

Firstly your idea of the Pakistan army is dated. A Musharraf/Zia/Ayub could not come to power in this age of social media. We're not Egypt, we've had a free media for too long, the people would not stand for a populist regime being toppled.

Now let's say we didn't have Gen Bajwa as COAS & instead had the kind of army general you fantasize about, willing to take on and overthrow Imran Khan, he could bring up what he'd like, if the Noora's, who are the kings of scandal and filth were unable to make the man budge, this army officer won't be able to either.

Secondly you've seen the kind of backing Imran Khan has, its Nationwide, not restricted to Rural Punjab, inner city Karachi, backwater KPK or Fuedal Sindh. He packed out Karachi and Minar-e-Pakistan, nobody would want to go up against an alpha like that.

This isn't a beta male who does his long marches in cars, carries notes for interviews and hides behind his plastic surgery addicted daughter

As usual, this is the truth, but we will chose to ignore it as it does not sit happily with us.

IK is a puppet in the hands of the Establishment. He will do as they say. I really hope he stands up to the military - but after what happened with Nawaz I doubt Imran would try to take a stand.

This alpha-beta dichotomy is nauseating. Are you an incel by any chance?

General saluting the Prime Minister.

This alpha-beta dichotomy is nauseating. Are you an incel by any chance?

No. Zartaj Gul is an alpha. As is Yasmin Chaudhary. Alpha is not defined by gender.

IMHO. What's nauseating for you is we've finally got a PM, a true alpha who'll disprove the neo liberal beta argument that the Army bully the civilian regime because of a thirst for power, and not because the civilian governments have thus far been a bunch of corrupt second rate betas.

Inshallah the PA and the PM will be on the same page to combat the traitors who have killed so many of our countrymen and now cry about FATA rights while their leaders sit in afghanistan..

It seems much more of a general meeting to continue & maybe even expand operations against terrorists.

Look at these pictures and let me know if you see a man in-charge or a puppet. Check posture and body language of Khan and generals around him. You will know who is boss.

The issue with Pakistanis is that they are so used to corrupt politicians that when they finally get a upright and clean man who can stand on his feet, they cannot handle it. Chotay log like Dr. M can only do buk buk. They should be ignored.

You were right when you talked about alpha male, check the pictures I shared. Let Nooras and certain "PTI supporters" cry.

That's such a nice image... civilians on one side and uniformed personnel on the other, both overseen by PM Khan.

Imran Khan is the first Peime Minister to chair a meeting in the GHQ.

Yes, and as per journalist Arshad Sharif it might be also a strong signal on a wider level : the first time that both the civilian and military authorities are on the same page.

Well written, great post.

Inshallah the PA and the PM will be on the same page to combat the traitors who have killed so many of our countrymen and now cry about FATA rights while their leaders sit in afghanistan..
I agree with you 100% that Mansoor Pashteen can not even polish boots off our great Imran Khan.

It is quite clear that people never wanted good civil military relationship otherwise they would have appreciated this. They either wanted their own clowns to be present there instead of Imran Khan or they won't be happy unless Imran Khan goes to GHQ saying "Oye Bajwa, civilians are superior and you lot are just our servants"

This is great to see though, Imran Khan getting full respect from everyone there. Puppets don't get respect anywhere and no matter how much you hate him but no one can deny that Imran Khan has earned respect of the nation and if he gets an opportunity he will prove to be the best democrat we ever had.

I think this is the first time in history where a Pakistani Prime Minister appears to have the full respect of the soldiers, generals

You are inventing a narrative to drive home a point. I did not say that the military will take over; I am simply said that if Imran stops dancing to their tunes and attempts to put them in their place, they will systematically get rid of him and find a new puppet. That is what they have always done.

The days of the Army taking over via coups are over - I agree with that. However, that is why they engage in pre-poll rigging and when the PTI were on their way to winning outright majority, the ECP system "crashed".

When it was functional again, PTI seats were reduced from 124 to 110 odd, and they had to get into bed with MQM in spite of PTI's media cell doing bhangra a few hours earlier over how Pakistan is finally free from MQM's shackles, and now they have two ministries.

The military wanted PTI to win but they did not want a sweeping majority, which is why once PTI got to 124 seats, the engaged in reverse-rigging to weak the parliament.

I am not interested in this cringeworthy alpha-beta rubbish. In his post-oath speech, the "alpha" Khan talked in great detail about the lavish lifestyle of the politicians and the bureaucracy, but the "alpha" could not utter a single word against the lavish lifestyle of the military elite, who are living well beyond their means as well.

There is only one alpha in Pakistan, and that is the military establishment. If Imran Khan wants to complete his term, he has to do as they say. This is not about mutual respect and understanding; it is about the fact that military calls the shots which they should not.

Imran Khan becomes the first Prime Minister to solely chair the meeting in GHQ. In past, all such meetings in GHQ were jointly chaired by the PM & COAS :13:

Amazing that this is something of an achievement!

These traitors who have killed so many of our countrymen were born and fed by Pakistan Army for their own strategic needs.

Whose leaders are sitting in Afghanistan? It is widely acknowledged that terrorists like Hafiz Saeed, Aurangzaib Farooqi, Ramzan Mengal and Kh Hussain Rizvi all live in Pakistan.

Respect and authority comes to those who deserve it and demand it

Never saw Zardari, Gillani or Sharif solely heading a meeting with the top brass military

Wouldn't trust those 3 to run a meeting with the neighbourhood watch, let alone the top military brass. What an absolute disgrace that those 2nd rate beta's got anywhere near the corridor of power. No wonder the army bullied them relentlessly. You can't buy respect. It's why LPG Abbasi was stripped down to his underwear at passports control by US Customs, & he stood there and took it like servant class. They can sniff out weak personalities.

You're not gonna get involved in the alpha-beta rubbish, yet then go and do exactly that. Yet another u-turn Mamoon ! Add it to the fact you've accused me of inventing a narrative to fit my point, but then go on a diatribe short on facts, high on conjecture, to do exactly that on why Imran Khan only ended up with a coalition government.

And I love the way you're throwing around that the military live lavishly, yet posts over the past couple days have proved this to be incorrect, especially when compared to the crooked politicians you love so much, so none of your points stand.

Kudos to Bajwa for stepping aside and setting the tone. I feel Bajwa is very different from the past generals and he understands military and civilian institutions need to stop fighting if Pakistan is to prosper. I don't get the non stop bickering over every little thing, seriously some people have too much time on their hands.

Excellent post.

Completely agree with the second paragraph

These traitors who have killed so many of our countrymen were born and fed by Pakistan Army for their own strategic needs.

Whose leaders are sitting in Afghanistan? It is widely acknowledged that terrorists like Hafiz Saeed, Aurangzaib Farooqi, Ramzan Mengal and Kh Hussain Rizvi all live in Pakistan.

yes your right Maulana fazlulla was fed by the PA..i forgot about that one..and also the masoods..all fed by the PA..and who can forget the TTP? all fed by the PA..I mean the PA just love feeding these terrorists who kill them..great strategy I must say..

If Raheel Sharif was the COAS, he would have done the same thing. There is a clear difference in the perception of IK and Ganja

This is the key thing to understand. NS was seen as a security threat. And we all know how the PA gets when they think their PM will end up being a sellout..They need someone trust worthy at the top who can work with both the judges and the security establishment. IK can do this. The country needs a triumverate and when this is out of balance we get problems.

NS was percieved as a security threat hence why he had so many problems with the PA..by the way they had mountains of evidence about NS and his harkatain.

COAS calls on PM Khan to discuss security matters

Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa called on Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday at the PM Office.

A statement by the PM office said "matters related to security were discussed" in the meeting — the third one to take place between Gen Bajwa and PM Khan since the latter assumed the prime ministerial office on August 18.

The meeting comes ahead of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the US Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen Joseph Dunford's scheduled visit to Islamabad on Wednesday to meet their counterparts.

They are also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Khan.

In their talks with Pakistani officials, the delegation will “make very clear what we have to do, all of our nations, in meeting our common foe, the terrorists”, US Defence Secretary James Mattis had said last week. “And make that a primary part of the discussion.”

Busy week
Last Monday, the army chief during his maiden call on PM Khan had congratulated the latter on assuming the prime minister’s office.

Both had “expressed resolve to bring enduring peace and stability in the country while also continuing efforts for regional peace”, the Prime Minister Office had said in a statement.

A source had claimed that Gen Bajwa also briefed the prime minister about his meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman at Mina.

Then on Friday, PM Khan made his first visit to the General Headquarters for a briefing on matters pertaining to national security.

“COAS thanked PM for his visit and posing confidence in the army,” the Inter-Services Public Relations had said in a statement.

The prime minister was accompanied during his visit to the military headquarters by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, Finance Minister Asad Umar, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry and Minister of State on Interior Shehryar Afridi.

The briefing — which reportedly went on for more than seven hours — covered security environment, threat spectrum and response, counterterrorism operations, the situation in Karachi and the Khushal Balochistan programme.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in his last tenure got his security briefing five months after assuming office, whereas ex-PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi only got a chance to visit the Joint Staff Headquarters after eight months in office.
