Lahore, 4 October 2019: Pakistan stars Abid Ali and Mohammad Rizwan will return to four-day first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy when the fourth round of the country’s premier tournament begins on Saturday, 5 October.

The two players took breaks from their respective cricket association sides after they were named in the probables camp for the Sri Lanka series, and subsequently were made part of the ODIs team for the three matches in Karachi.

Sindh will be bolstered by the return of Abid, the right-handed opener, after his blistering 67-ball 74, which earned him the man-of-the-match award, against Sri Lanka on Wednesday.

Asad Shafiq, the Sindh captain, however, have some tough calls to take as either of seasoned batsman Khurram Manzoor, who averages 50.75, or 20-year-old Omair Bin Yousuf, who has 244 runs in three innings, would make way if Abid Ali is to be slotted in his favoured opening position.

Sindh travel back to UBL Sports Complex in Karachi to host Southern Punjab. The latter’s captain, Shan Masood also finds himself in a predicament as Mohammad Abbas, who has three wickets in two matches in the ongoing tournament, takes a break from domestic cricket to avoid fatigue ahead of Pakistan’s tour of Australia.

Mohammad Rizwan, who scored a brilliant 176 leading Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in their tournament opener against Northern, will take over the leadership responsibilities from his deputy Sahibzada Farhan in their fixture against Azhar Ali-led Central Punjab, who lead the points table after securing two consecutive innings’ margin wins, at Abbottabad Cricket Stadium.

For Central Punjab, the Abbottabad contest will be a chance to further consolidate their combinations. Their openers, middle-order, all-rounders and bowlers have risen to occasion and what gives them further impetus is their inform captain, Azhar, who tops the run-getters charts after scoring two centuries in as many matches.

Azhar Ali said: “Our morale is really high; we have gelled-in very well. KP are formidable opponents and it won’t be an easy game for us, we would want to continue our form and play positive cricket. If we continue to play on our strengths, I am hopeful of the team doing well.

“I am happy with my own form, in any tournament it always helps if you score some runs at the start, there is as such no secret formula to my captaincy. I just aim to play on strengths of my team. We keep our plans in accordance to the new points system, the aim has been to earn maximum points in each game and we have the same plan for this game.”

The two teams, however, will hope that rain doesn’t continue to play spoil sport, especially, after how it permitted only 86 overs across four days in the last round fixture between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Southern Punjab.

At the KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi, the rain continued to halt action, with the last day of previous fixture getting washed out.

Northern, bottom of the points table with only 19 points from three matches, will hope to compound Balochistan’s woes after the latter’s innings and 12 runs defeat at Bugti Stadium in Quetta in the previous round.

There have been bright spots for Northern. The top run-getters for them are Pakistan U19 opener wicketkeeper-batsman Haider Ali and Rohail Nazir – who have 196 and 140 runs at averages of 39.20 and 28.00, in the tournament so far.

Despite an innings’ defeat against Central Punjab, there was silver lining for Imran Farhat-led Balochistan. Bismillah Khan scored two half-centuries, and his side will be hoping that the wicketkeeper-batsman builds on it.

If teams reduced then they should have reduced rounds also! Have a feeling that people will lose interest in this.

"First Calss" lol, I feel like that should've been an easy one to fix before printing the sheets. The youtube coverage has definitely improved. They're finally getting the hang of using the graphics correctly and consistently. I hope things keep improving.

Azeem Guman, Imran Farhat, Imran Rafiq etc are getting chance after Chances

But Saif badar, Saud Shakeel are 12th man

Yes Saud Shakeel did not get enough chances in previous 3 matches and now he is drops from the XI

This wicket at KRL looks to be the best so far - good carry & bounce, might crack a bit later as well. Baloch team has an exciting (much discussed) pace attack, should be a good contest.

Did you get a chance to see Haider Ali bat?

Will be interesting to see how Sameen Gul performs against CP. I feel he has become a better bowler since last year. He may become a good test bowler.

That was a beautiful inside out loft from Faizan Riaz off Mohammed Asghar.

Haider Ali meanwhile is well set so Northern finally delivering with the bat.

KRL Stadium looks nicer than the dilapidated Pindi Stadium.

He's fully fit now.

He's expected to play in the QeA soon.

Haider needs to work on his back foot technique..otherwise a great prospect

Karachi, 5 October 2019: Skipper Shan Masood produced a workmanlike innings of 118 to anchor Southern Punjab to 303 for 5 against Sindh on day one of the four-day first class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match at the UBL Sports Complex on Saturday.

Invited to bat first by Sindh captain Asad Shafiq, the left-handed Test opener played flawlessly and with precision for 306 minutes and faced 205 balls before he was finally dismissed in the last session. Shan fell to off-spinner, Waleed Ahmed after having hit 13 fours and two sixes.

He also shared a solid third wicket partnership of 134 runs with Sohaib Maqsood (57 from 111 balls) as the two came together with their team on 58 for two.

The other opener, Sami Aslam had looked set for a big innings when he hit two fours and a six in his 21 runs but was bowled by Waleed who toiled tirelessly for 29 overs in the hot and humid weather conditions. Soon after Aslam fell, pacer Tabish Khan also bowled Umar Siddique for one run to cause some concern in the visitors’ dressing room.

Shan than took charge with Sohaib as both of them first played with caution to take their team to 99 without further loss. The duo opened up against the experienced Sindh pace attack in the second session as the total mounted rapidly.

Shan completed his century in the session but soon after Sohaib was trapped leg before by Tabish leave the visitors on 195 for 3 at the tea break.

Southern Punjab also lost the wicket of Imran Rafique for 39 runs who fell to Sohail Khan as Sindh took the second new ball a short while before close, following Shan’s dismissal.

Wicketkeeper-batsman, Adnan Akmal 39 not out and all-rounder, Aamir Yamin 16 not out than put on an undefeated 42 runs for the sixth wicket before stumps were called after 90 overs.

Waleed and Tabish were the most successful bowlers for Sindh with two wickets apiece as the bowlers had to toil hard for little rewards.

Scores in brief:

Southern Punjab 303-5, 90 overs (Shan Masood 118. Sohaib Maqsood 57, Adnan Akmal 39 not out, Imran Rafiq 33; Tabish Khan 2-52, Waleed Ahmed 2-120)

Frustrating that Badar hasn’t been given a chance yet.

Karachi, 5 October 2019: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa made a strong start to reach 305 for two at close of the opening day’s play in their four-day first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy round four match against Central Punjab at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium on Saturday, courtesy an unbeaten century by captain Mohammad Rizwan and Ashfaq Ahmed’s 98 not out.

The two added 220 runs in their unfinished third wicket partnership as the hosts took the honours on the opening day. The toss was not contested in Abbottabad as Central Punjab captain Azhar Ali elected to bowl first.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa openers Sahibzada Farhan (37) and Israrullah (43) added 77 runs for the first wicket. Both were dismissed in quick succession before lunch as the hosts finished the first session of the match at 90 for the loss of two wickets in 25 overs.

Post lunch, captain Mohammad Rizwan and Ashfaq Ahmed added 104 runs in the session as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa took tea at formidable 194 for two, as Central Punjab toiled hard for a breakthrough.

Rizwan and Ashfaq then took complete control of the proceedings in the final session of the day. Rizwan reached his 100 off 160 balls with the help of 14 fours, he ended the day on 111 off 192 balls.

Ashfaq’s 98 has so far included 14 fours and one six, he has accumulated his runs off 212 balls.

Ehsan Adil and Naseem Shah took a wicket apiece for Central Punjab conceding 62 and 65 runs respectively. The rest of the bowlers failed to make an impression. Play was called-off due to bad light with 2.3 overs remaining in the day.

Scores in brief:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 305 for 2, 87.3 overs (Mohammad Rizwan 111 not out, Ashfaq Ahmed 98 not out, Israrullah 43, Sahibzada Farhan 37; Ehsan Adil 1-62, Naseem Shah 1-65)

Rawalpindi, 5 October 2019: Faizan Riaz and young Haider Ali cracked centuries to put Northern in early control of their first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy round four match against Balochistan at the KRL Stadium on Saturday.

At the draw of stumps on the opening day, Northern, who won the toss and elected to bat, were well placed on 365 for the loss of five wickets in 85 overs in their first innings.

Faizan was called-up from Northern’s Second XI squad for this match and he immediately made an impact. The right-hander was unbeaten on 113 off 175 balls at the close of play -- his seventh century at this level. He has so far hit 13 fours and three sixes during his 257-minute stay at the wicket.

Faizan was involved in a 130-run stand for the fifth wicket with Ali Sarfraz, who played well for his 50 that included seven boundaries.

Giving Faizan company at the other end, at the close of play was Hammad Azam on five not out.

The 19-year-old Haider played an aggressive innings as he registered his maiden first-class century. The right-handed opener, who is featuring in his debut first-class season, was caught behind for 133 off 147 deliveries. He stroked 21 fours and two sixes.

Earlier, Northern lost opener Zeeshan Malik (four) with just 10 runs on the board. But Haider stood firm and stitched useful partnerships of 61, 63 and 84 with captain Umar Amin (34), Rohail Nazir (14) and Faizan Riaz to take his team towards a position of strength.

For Balochistan, Mohammad Asghar and Taj Wali took two wickets each for 62 and 96 runs, respectively. Both sides are looking for their first win in the tournament.

They are placed at the bottom of the six-team points table with Balochistan on 23 points and Northern on 19.

Scores in brief: Northern 365-5, 85 overs (Haider Ali 133, Faizan Riaz 113 not out, Ali Sarfraz 50, Umar Amin 34; Mohammad Asghar 2-62, Taj Wali 2-96) vs Balochistan.

I really like these scorecards as it shows the sorry state of our bowling which is clearly reflected in our results recently especially in Test matches. We have no world class spinner or fast bowler. Too many trundlers were making merry previously with swinging ball without actually working for wickets. This system will reap results only when these players with excess baggage are thrown out.

Was listening to Wasim Khan's commentatory in the 1st T20I and clearly he was not happy with current pitches suitation in domestic cricket. Was saying that we have to work on our pitches to create the right balance

Not at all.

Look at the scores England and South Africa made at home against Pakistan.

These scores are what happen when you use a rubbish Kookaburra ball with no seam on flat tracks with no bounce.

Rawalpindi, 6 October 2019:

Imran Butt and Abubakar Khan helped Balochistan make a steady reply to Northern’s big first innings total on the second day of the first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy round four match at the KRL Stadium, Rawalpindi.

When bad light ended play on Sunday, Balochistan were 119 for two in 42 overs -- 27 overs were lost in the day. This was in response to Northern’s first innings score of 450 all out in 105.4 overs.

Balochistan lost Azeem Ghumman with just seven runs on the board, but Imran Butt and Abubakar joined hands to steady ship with an excellent second wicket stand of 110 runs.

Things were going good for Imran Farhat’s team when against the run of play Abubakar was bowled by spinner Nauman Ali for exactly 50. His knock included seven fours and came off 106 balls.

Imran Butt, however, was looking solid. The right-handed opening batsman will resume his innings on 58 not out on Monday. With him will be his captain Imran Farhat who will resume on one not out.

Imran Butt has so far faced 128 balls and hit nine boundaries. Nauman and Haris Rauf bagged a wicket apiece for Northern.

Earlier, Northern could only add 85 more runs to their overnight score of 365 for five before losing their remaining wickets. Faizan Riaz, who began Sunday’s proceedings on 113 not out, was eventually bowled by Pakistan Test leg-spinner Yasir Shah for a well compiled 141.

The right-handed middle-order batsman hit 18 fours and three sixes in his 207-ball innings that lasted 307 minutes. Nauman Ali contributed 21.

On Saturday, young Haider Ali had scored 133 for his maiden first-class century while Ali Sarfraz had added 50.

Amad Butt was the pick of Balochistan’s bowlers. The right-arm pace bowler took three of the five wickets to fall on Sunday to finish with figures of three for 57 in 13.4 overs.

Mohammad Asghar bagged two wickets for 62 runs, Taj Wali took two for 108 and Yasir, who went wicket-less on the opening day, claimed two scalps for 119 runs.

Northern collected five batting points while Balochistan got three bowling points.

Scores in brief:

Northern 450 all out, 105.4 overs (Faizan Riaz 141, Haider Ali 133, Ali Sarfraz 50, Umar Amin 34; Amad Butt 3-57, Mohammad Asghar 2-62, Taj Wali 2-108, Yasir Shah 2-119)

Balochistan 119-2, 42 overs (Imran Butt 58 not out, Abubakar Khan 50; Nauman Ali 1-23, Haris Rauf 1-26).

Karachi, 6 October 2019:

All-rounder Aamer Yamin reminded the selectors of his all-round utility with a belligerent 142 runs and left-arm spinner, Muhammad Irfan scored his maiden century to put Southern Punjab in a commanding position against Sindh on day two of the four-day first class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy round four match at the UBL Complex Karachi on Sunday.

Sindh in reply lost Khurram Manzoor for 36 when he was bowled by the lanky left arm pacer, Rahat Ali. The in-form Abid Ali (42 from 40 balls) and Omair Bin Yousuf (five) took Sindh to 90 for one in 36 overs at stumps.

Aamer faced just 189 balls, hitting 15 fours and six sixes as he put on 206 runs for the eight wicket with Irfan who also enjoyed himself in good batting conditions hitting eight fours and two sixes in his 104-ball score of 101 runs.

Sindh who were looking to capture the last remaining five wickets of the visiting team quickly this morning when play resumed on 303 for 5 toiled hard to break the late partnership without luck.

Sindh got an early breakthrough when Sohail Khan bowled Adnan Akmal after he had added just five to his overnight total of 39 while soon after Bilawal Bhatti was run out for 1 to leave the visitors on 314 for seven.

Aamer who had resumed on 16 took charge from there and was in brilliant form to remind everyone of his all-round abilities as the bowlers wilted under the pressure in hot conditions and the eight wicket stand grew in confidence.

He scored his fourth first class century as Southern Punjab were eventually bowled out for 546 in 140.2 overs, soon after the big partnership ended with Irfan’s run out.

Fawad Alam, Tabish Khan, Sohail Khan and Waleed Ahmed took two wickets apiece for Sindh.

Southern Punjab (383 for seven after 110 overs) collected four batting points, while Sindh had to be content with two bowling points.

In reply, Sindh survived some anxious moments against a pumped-up Southern Punjab bowling attack before Rahat made the breakthrough.

Scores in brief:

Southern Punjab 546 all out, 140.2 overs (Aamer Yamin 142, Shan Masood 118, Mohammad Irfan junior 101, Sohaib Maqsood 57; Fawad Alam 2-63, Tabish Khan 2-101, Sohail Khan 2-102).

Sindh 90 for 1, 36 overs (Abid Ali 42 not out, Khurram Manzoor 36; Rahat Ali 1-26)
