Rangpur Riders win Bangladesh Premier League 2017/18

There are 5 foreign players in every team and PAK is the only country outside BD whose almost entire first XI is in BPL, therefore one should expect that available PAK nationals should make the starting XI of any BPL team, ahead of reserves of other countries - in CV's case, you seemed to be not sure whom they should pick between Malik, Hasan, Solmon Mire, Greme Cremer & Mujib Zadran.

More than Malik or Hasan starting for CV, it's surprising that DD benched Amir/Afridi in a match after losing their chances of top 2 finish is almost gone - if they lose to RK in next match, top 4 will be in question - I am sure they were well aware of that before dropping Amir for Cooper.

Amir is playing godawful cricket at the moment.

Let's no do reputation judging. He simply hasn't been very good or anywhere near where he was.

Not bad (overall analysis, but hardly an auto-selection the way Hasan Ali is. On top, he is in bad form recently.

Still he should make the XI for DD or any BPL team - issue is not there. Obviously someone opening bowling for Ranked #1 team should be beyond contemporary form or performance for any PL/SL team. Issue is some people have a false bravado of "Big me" thoughts, which needs to be busted.

In gross words, PAK (& WI) national players are available & cheap, so obviously they are the superstar of BPL, CPL, PSL, SPL ...... because of value for money - this has nothing to do with man crash on PAK players in BPL or Bangladesh. Other way, if they were available, or BPL could have afforded them - among the likes of Stokes, Root, Bairstow, Ali, Hales, Roy, Morgan, AB, Amla, Kok, FaF, Miller, Styen, Tahir, Guptil, Williamson, Boult, Taylor, Southee, Warner, Smith, Strac, Cummins, Maxi, Kohli, Sharma, Dhawan, Pandeya, BK, Bumrah, Jadeja, KL, Angelo ............... you know, whose who.

Then we talk about PCB closing BPL with their might & reach .........

MMHS eye opener for sarafraz.

He was bowling to 2 lefti (3 actually, if I consider Shakib as well), and in this era of gang ho cricket, any spinner flighting & turning it away will do well. PAK had to keep MoHa's seat warm, so everyone was/is careful not to open the Pandora box. Otherwise, not only Malik, Haris was well could have cut the pie of "batting All-rounder" share. In fact Maqsood as well - allow him to bowl regularly when 2 lefties are batting and there is a decent total on a sluggish UAE track.

Eye can be opened for those who are sleeping; you can't awake people pretending slept.

MMHS eye opener for sarafraz.

Not just Sarfaraz. His bowling has been very under utilized for the past few years under many different captains playing for Pakistan.

Be honest, do you think BPL would function if PCB banned Pakistani players? On the other hand , dont think PSL would be affected at all if the two/three Bd players that selected are barred from playing.

Questionable. There have only been a few superlative performances from PAK players, and of those Raza is contracted by Zimbabwe.

Seems to have a lot of breaks this tournament!

One interesting trend this year is that our bowlers are doing well, to my surprise the pacers. Another positive is apart from few known faces like Tamim, Shakib, Mahmudullah, Mushi, Kayes ... almost every local performers are young, U25 players, which indicates the league's quality should grow in coming years as these players mature.

Zakir is very classy batsman and gun fielder. Afif is clean striker of the ball. Willow is showing these highlights always so I see a lot of BPL.

Both are eligible for U19 WC. Zakir is a long term prospect for ODI WC position.

FZ one is explainable actually. Their batting reserves has too many top order players. Among 5 foreigners' spot Malik, Hasan, Bravo makes the team as all-rounder; while Butler is Butler - only slot left is Samuels or FZ. Playing FZ means either he has to bat at 4, or drop one of Kayes or Liton to 7 - that's a wastage of player either way.

Dropping Afridi & Amir may be to prove that BPL can survive with out PAK players - they are playing Cooper over both.

According to Afridi, during the match, he said that he didn't want to play that day due to wet pitch and suggested the management to make someone like Amir play hence they decided to play cooper...

Wired though - first I am not sure if Afridi can interpret wet or dry wicket; because being a fastish leggi, he should be more effective on wet wicket, but dry condition.

2nd part I didn't understand - he suggested Amir, so they played Cooper .........

I haven't enjoyed these frequent breaks because it kinds of kills the interest. Not the greatest scheduling.

Good to see BPL this season has had a lot of interest from foreigners. I am sure in the future even better cricketers will want to be a part of BPL.

Amir definitely a class above Cooper with the ball. But on flat but slow wickets they wanted to have Cooper who can also wield the willow.

The team lost tho, because batsmen failed.

Absolutely bizzare game to start today.

Rangpur Riders collapse for 97 after being 58/3 in 9 overs. Comilla in response were 90/6 in 18.5 overs and in real trouble until a Hasan Ali first ball six on the last ball of the 19th over.

Unplayable pitch and bizzarely slow chase.

Amir can bat a bit as well but you are right cooper can use the long handle better

yess...at least they have caught my eyes after pakistani player allowed and the way they give chance to evry player....

Dropped because he genuinely isn't good enough to waste an overseas slot.

Played average in the games he did play.

In which world were you watching him play?

In the 2 games he played in the BPL, he averaged 20.66 with the ball at an economy of 7.5, which are exceptional figures.

How are these poor or average performances?

ICC should investigate this game. Vikings are out of BPL and next match they have sold 2 points & a healthy NRR to a side still can make top 4.

These things happen when some of the dirtiest people pour their black money for something they are least passionate about.

Irfan guy looks better t20 bowler than Yasir Shah MMHS

Have to see him bowl more, one match doesn't tell much. Yasir's economy in domestic T20 is better for 8 times more matches, which I think is the biggest factor in T20.

Malik with 1/25 in 3 overs and 36 off 23.

Malik was looking dangerous but Irfan got his wicket and Comilla eventually fell short in the chase.

Irfan 1/26 in 3.

Mohammad Amir playing for Dhaka today, in a must win game for them to be in the Top 2.

Amir 1/15 in four overs.

Unusual tactics by Dhaka - Amir bowled his first over after the powerplay. Anyway, guess it worked as they comfortably won by 43 runs.

Brilliant bowling by Amir, didn't give away even a single boundary in all his four overs which went for only 15 and bowled a excellent reverse swinging yorker to take the wicket in the end.

Wicket was pretty slow and good for spinners, therefore they cleverly bowled all six overs in the powerplay by spinners which proved out to be a excellent decision, and in the process they also saved Amir for the middle and end overs to prevent big hitting during them.

Probably another “deal” match - RR would have been 3rd/4th either way, but a “solid” win takes DD to 2nd over Khulna. Tough to believe that last 4 batsmen (including Bopara & Nahid) played 66 balls for 48! runs in a small chase and team still ends 94/7 in 20 overs!!!!!

:salute only you can do such things

Jos Buttler has been such a TTF in this tournament.. why hasn’t he been benched yet?

There was no need of a solid win, Dhaka's net run rate was pretty good and probably the best among all teams before the match. So even a victory by small margin would have ensured they play the qualifiers. Dhaka's bowling was simply too good for Rangpur's batsmen.

What happened to Tamim Iqbal? Why is he not playing?

Good to see Shoaib Malik handed the responsibility of captaincy and Hasan Ali returning to the playing eleven.

Jos Buttler has been such a TTF in this tournament.. why hasn’t he been benched yet?

Because he is a very good player and the sample size is small.

That's probably why they are top of the league. Because they don't drop their world-class player because of bad form in a very small sample size.

Why do people actively want this mentality where world-class players are dropped for a few bad games.

Yes, there seemed little doubt of the result even when Dhaka were 48/5 in 10 overs.

You are right that he should have been benched in favour of maybe Dwayne Bravo who could have made more runs than him and also bowl a few overs. He has been playing consistently on his reputation of a big hitter without much results, He is struggling big time on these slow pitches.

If you’re not performing, you shouldn’t be in the team. I don’t know how many games he has played but every time I have checked he’s failed.

Fakhar has only got one chance this BPL and i’m quite sure he would have done a better job than Buttler.

It's entirely untrue that "you shouldn't be in the team if not performing".

Virat Kohli will be in Indian team irrespective. Why? Because he's the best batsman. Anybody can have bad form and this Pakistani habit of dropping every guy who has a few bad games won't make them better it just makes them selfish and nervous. Only recently Pakistan results have improved and that's because Arthur has brought more stable treatment.

Obviously Fakhar would do a better job then Buttler has in these games. If you play a game tomorrow, I would expect Buttler to do better than Fakhar because he's a slightly better player (though i don't think u can compare a keeper with an outfield player as a like for like replacement).

It doesn’t work that way - by reputation JB is far better player. FZ got his chance and failed to capitalize - would he had scored more, may be, may not be; but one had to make the chance count.

And yet the same team dropped a much better(Hasan Ali) in their last match based on 1 bad game, where previously he had taken a five-for.

Babar Azam 20(19)
c (sub)Fahim Ashraf b Cremer

Which fahim ashraf is this? I thought he is not yet fit

Gaylestorm.

Chris Gayle hits a century and knocks out Khulna in an eliminator. Chasing 168 and two wickets fell fast including Mccullum for a duck but Gayle just kept going and ended it.

If CG plays for more than 15 overs, it’s impossible to win that T20 game. I think, he chased 225+ twice in SAF as well. Best medicine against such players is to get him out. If he has 2 more good days, RR is going to win it.

On contrary, BMac now should go for coaching role.

Comilla probably won't mind chasing 180, but they should look to restrict DD at around 170 target.

They'll have to chase close to 200 which is very tough given the structure of their line-up and that the only 100% big hitter Jos Buttler is very out of form.

Their best idea ought to be Hasan Ali doing a Narine job.

They won't chase 200 - Hasan & Saifuddin has 4 overs.

Tamim made another blunder today - Hasan is bowling 19th over, means Saifuddin will bowl the last one, coming for a single over.

For T20s, PAK should use Hasan straight 4 overs out of last 7 - he'll reduce target by 20 or defend 50 in last 7.

That one extra over of Bravo (& that bye 4), has cost CV at least 10 - should be the deciding factor at the end.

First over inside 10 and if he doesn't go for many, 3 in last 6.

With 4 of last 7, it becomes race against tide if first over is expensive.

I meant Narine job with the bat. Hasan Ali is a very very good hitter.

CV could have blocked them under 180 - still too many.

DD's team is exceptionally good with Salman F Rahman's black money - it was surprising that, at the end he had to buy 2 points from RK to finish in top 2.

Fast bowlers are rhythm bowlers. 1 over spells are just not worthy - it might look good one day, but in critical moments often fast bowlers coming for a single over bolts it. Ideally, PAK should look to bowl like -

Amir/Irfaaan 2+2 = 4
Imad/Irfaaan 2+2 = 4
Imad/Shadab 2+2 = 4
Shadab/Hasan 2+2 = 4
Hasan/Amir 2+2 = 4

In Asian T20s, Fahim shouldn't play ahead of Shadab or Imad; outside Imad shouldn't play ahead of Fahim.

T20 franchises need to bring more subjective judgement in their scouting. In BPL, hard hitting Pom players won't earn much because of their zero footwork & spin playing ability. This guy josh Butler is a monster where he can hit through the line against medium pace bowling coming at a nice height & steady pace.

It's not just English players.

The larger issue is that the Blast is one of the most batter friendly tourneys on the circuit so lots of great hitters in the Blast are doing so just because it's easy, while historically BPL is very bowler friendly.

Buttler is a good batsman. Not just a trundler basher. He has hit it at all levels. Just in abysmal form at the moment.

CV is a much better unit, but RR has Gayle.

I think, for tomorrow's match CV should take a risk and bowl as many overs of Hasan as possible when CG is in middle - if he gets him out, game over; if he doesn't, I don't think preserving Hasan for last overs matters much.
