He was found guilty of breaching article 2.2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Player and Player Support Personnel

His accumulated demerit points reach six following Saturday’s breach for which he received three demerit points as well as a fine of 50 per cent of his match feeIf the left-arm spinner reaches the next threshold of eight or more demerit points within a 24-month period, then they will be converted into four suspension points**

India’s Ravindra Jadeja has been suspended for the upcoming Pallekele Test after his accumulated demerit points reached six within a 24-month period following his latest breach of the ICC Code of Conduct for which he received a 50 per cent fine and three demerit points.

During the third day’s play in the Colombo Test against Sri Lanka on Saturday, Jadeja was found guilty of breaching article 2.2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Player and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match”.

As Jadeja had received a 50 per cent fine and three demerit points during the Indore Test against New Zealand in October 2016 for violating 2.2.11 of the Code, with the addition of Saturday’s three demerit points, he has reached the threshold of four demerit points, which, pursuant to article 7.6 of the Code, have now been converted into two suspension points*.

As such, Jadeja has been suspended from his side’s third Test against Sri Lanka, which will be played in Pallekele from 12-16 August.

Following this suspension, the six demerit points will remain on Jadeja’s disciplinary record. If Jadeja reaches the next threshold of eight or more demerit points within a 24-month period, then they will be converted into four suspension points**.

Saturday’s incident happened on the final delivery of the 58th over when Jadeja, after fielding off his own bowling, threw the ball back at the batsman who had not left his crease. The on-field umpires deemed the throwing “in a dangerous manner” as it narrowly missed Dimuth Karunaratne.

Jadeja admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees and, as such, there was no need for a formal hearing.

The charge was laid by on-field umpires Bruce Oxenford and Rod Tucker, third umpire Richard Illingworth and fourth umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge.

All level 2 breaches carry an imposition of a fine between 50 per cent to 100 per cent of the applicable match fee and/or up to two suspension points, and three or four demerit points.

*Two suspension points equate to a ban from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, whatever comes first for the player.

** Four suspension points equate to a ban from two Tests or four ODIs or four T20Is, whatever comes first for the player.

Yep, Kuladeep Yadav's turn to get a game.

I haven't watched a single ball of this series so far. Sri Lanka are so boring.

Chalo, blessing in disguise -- can try out someone else.

But he needs to watch it, and not get into this disciplinary issues.

Why don't they just ban the men's game altogether :livid: !!! A little show of aggressive and one of my favorite players gets the chop :sanga

Andy Roberts was absolutely correct, cricket has most definitely become a sissy game.

This is what happens folks when Feminists rule the world sadly......

No wonder cricket is dying. Pathetic rules. If this trend of banning players for showing slightest aggression continues cricket will soon die as a sport. The process has already begun.

These days people see swearing at the batsmen and throwing a hard ball (which has injured many and even killed some) for no reason as aggression

Nice. Kuldeep will get to play. Jaddu and Ash wil lbe useless in SA/Aus/NZ.

Kuldeep can get wickets even on flat pattas though he can be a bit more expensive.

Kuldeep Yadav has bad record in first class where he should be performing alot better.I feel in few days once he is decoded will be normal bowler but one thing he have is won't really need pitches to spin which ashwin & jaddu needs.

To be fair, there was no need for Jadeja to throw the ball aggressively like that. I know he didn't do it intentionally, but it was still dumb.

ICC doing its absolute best to kill this sport even in the countries that play it.

Yes he deserved some sort of warning at the way he threw the ball at the batsman, but wasn't 50% of his match fee docked enough? Why do you have to kick him out as well with the 6 demerit point system which is the most ******** system used by the ICC even more than the DL method.

6 points in a 24 month period = 1 match ban? Are you kidding me. And you get 3 points off for something like running on the pitch.

Pathetic from this idiotic cricket council.

Moral of the story being don't get caught tampering with the pitch and then unnecessarily and aggressively throw the ball at the opposition when you know one more incident will get you a ban.

And for the record as far as I'm aware no one has received demerit points for running on the danger area. Jadeja received his for continuously dragging his spikes through the spot that he just happened to want to pitch the ball on and exploit shortly after. He got warned 3 times in a 27 ball innings (along with him doing it multiple other times before that in the series) and got punished for it on the 4th occasion the umpires had to speak to him about it. 4 times in a 27 ball innings.

No worries, we got too much depth, kuldeep gonna destroy the lankans, what's left of them anyway :rp

Throwing a ball at someone is incredibly dangerous.

Especially after the Phillip Hughes incident (RIP). There's no tolerance for a reason.

I agree. However, there appears to be a much higher level of tolerance for players from other countries.

There can be no objection if these disciplinary rules are applied uniformly on players of all nationalities.

Jadeja becomes the #1 allrounder in the world. Bitter sweet happenings going on in his career at the moment!

Axar Patel has been added to the squad.

Not sure why, considering that Kuldeep Yadav is already available as a replacement.
