The Akmals' mother was hospitalised yesterday after a heart attack. They aren't playing due to that.

What has happened to Farhan, Shafiq playing at strike rate of 120 and Farhan scores 40 of 66 balls.. why slow bro

Asad deserves his chance as an opener

He has played only 4 ODIs in that position. .We must try something new and hopefully a miracle happens :))

A clear mistake

Unless Asad Shafoq has changed his team and started playing for Peshawar.

Shan Masood in superb form.

He got selected when he was in crap form.

God knows what will happen this year, now that he's in superb form. Hopefully he gets Fawad Alam-ed and doesn't get selected again. :ashwin

Shan Masood is in the form of his life, but may be it reflects the quality of bowling as well. 46 of Umar's 64 in boundary and he batted outside 1st PP.

Whenever Azhar ali scores a hundred his team loses.

Just look at the quality of the bowling lineup he faced...:malik

How is sadaf doing? Has he played just the one match for two wickets?

If not Umar, Rizwan should be in ODI squad always. He is batting good enough for a posdible spot as specialist bat in squad.

A couple? He had a full series out in Australia and looked absolutely awful.

It's about having a 2nd keeper in squad. Now, the game has diversified so much that these days, teams can't take 2 specialist WK in the squad (needs more variety in squad). I can recall in my early days, teams used to tour with 15/16 players for 10-12 weeks and same players used to play 5 Tests, 6 ODIs and may be 7/8 side games.

These days, teams needs multiple options in squad, but a cover for WK as well. For PAK, it's elementary, because the Captain is WK, who has to carry his 20% heavier body even in side games, as WK. Best solution is to pick one player who makes the squad as batsman, but can keep in crisis. WKeeping is such a specialist task that, if somehow Srafraz had knocked his thumb in NZ and MoHa had to show his 4th facet and that would have cost PAK at least 25 more runs (even considering Sarfraz's keeping quality). It's like using Umar Amin as opening bowler as replacement of Amir, but since WK is a thankless job, no one bothers to recognize their contribution.

Umar is still, by far the best option as WK-batsman for the LO squad and he can bat across every spot from 3 to 7 (can open as well and will do better than most PCB had tried in last few years, but I can't prove that). Unfortunately, that idea isn't welcomed in PP even for discussion - because of Umar's personal issues, and because of Pankha base being too insecure about Sarfraz's position in the team.

PP experts wrote him off after a couple of bad games.

hardly a couple of bad games - he averaged 28 after 22 innings, he was given plenty of opportunity, just not a good enough batsmen

this is the first time he's crossed 50 in his last 10 domestic OD games

Lol. Instead of Rizwan, they should try some other wk/batsman as backup. Umar Siddiq is a good shout.

Welcome to opening spot, Mohammad Hafeez. Der aaye, durust aaye ......

Who want's to bet with me - he'll play Test cricket for PAK as opener in UAE this year. (one disclaimer, Ul Haq & Sarfraz has to be in charge till then).

Abdullah719

Just for my interest, is their any official or personal video available of Asad's batting? This can't be fluke - either guy is batting exceptionally well, or these games are absolute waste of time. I believe as I see - 90 of 145 through boundaries (21 X 4), is absolutely what one needs as ODI openers in PP at any level.

Imam is exposing his uncle, more than himself. I think, kid was told by Arthur (& Grant), about his improvement areas during Kiwi tour, sadly he tried to implement that in domestics List A, hence ....

History repeats itself - PCB's pundits tried Taufiqe Umar for ODI, because of his Test batting; he lost both. Otherwise, he could have been first/2nd PAK player to reach 10K Test runs.

Amin is killing it these days with ball - need to see some of his bowling. That wicket, doesn't look like a seemers paradise.

None are available in public. The team analysts will have the videos and might give them to some journalist or post them on social media but chances are low.

I wonder what the 'contractual dispute' was all about which led to PTV Sports cancelling coverage of this tournament...

May be "payment dispute" .... or "revenue sharing" issue .....................

Sethi did say something about TV broadcasts for domestic tournaments etc. during a recent presser, just around a month ago.

I'll try and dig that out when I get some time ;-)

I didn't notice - 56 of MoHa's 64 came from boundaries ..... better than Mazid for sure. Mazid hit a 80+ at Oval '79 in WC SF, against WI with only 7 boundaries, which still people talk about - sadly those people (one being myself), aren't lucky enough to watch this master piece.

^ yeah, I just saw Hafeez's boundary %

so he has a minimum of 45 out of 65 dot balls (not including the wicket taking ball)

that scorecard looks like hafeez dominated with a 66 at a high SR, but the dot balls make the innings quite extraordinarily pathetic

He was batting as opener in PP, therefore more than dot balls, I think boundary hitting ability is bigger KPI these days. However, yes - if I take all 8 singles; that's 21 scoring shot in first 20-21 overs (played 66 balls, so I take about 50% of balls) - but, this little you can overlook for the sheer class of the man. PAK cricket establishment as a whole has overlooked his tail-enderisque stats when chips are down for that sheer class & elegance for a decade.

I can see CI is broadcasting Vijay Hazare Cup live - that can be for BCCI kanspirecy (& gold), but Dhaka Premier League and WICB's regional Cup as well - BUT, not even delayed scorecard for PCB's domestic cup - surely this can't be only for kanspiracy (& gold).

May be CI's marketing team isn't competent enough to crack a deal with their dynamic PCB counterparts ......

Is Zafar Gohan not playing this tournament?

He's playing for Lahore Whites, even though his name was not in the initial squad list published in OP. Played four matches without any real standout performances, but I believe this is his first tournament in a while as was recovering from a long term injury.

I don't disagree with you about the need for a 2nd WK in the squads. Especially with Sarfraz's workload being so heavy these days.

I was just responding to Hasan123 who thinks that its only on the basis of a 'couple' of games that Rizwan's stocks have fallen. That Australian series was an ideal series for him to show that he could bat at the highest level on wickets which were pretty flat. Although his keeping was excellent, the failure with the bat was very disappointing and therefore its unfair to take potshots at posters who don't really rate him anymore.

Abid Ali 209* against Peshawar. Highest individual score in List-A cricket in Pakistan? Abdullah719

yes it is,..but shows the quality of bowling..thats why asad shafiq has been the beast...

This time the SF is going to be between 2 Cities - Peshawar, Lahore, Karachi & Pindi.

I didn’t follow it much and I thought Faisalabad was doing well, but they must have lost last 3-4 games to miss out the cut.

Yes.

Abid Ali 209* in 2018
Mohammad Ali 207 in 2005
Khalid Latif 204* in 2009
Kamran Akmal 200 in 2018
Sajid Ali 197* in 1997
Saeed Anwar 194 in 1997
Sharjeel Khan 194 in 2013
Imran Nazir 189 in 2013
Mohammad Nawaz 187 in 2016
Khurram Manzoor 187 in 2018
Saeed bin Nasir 186* in 2003
Fakhar Zaman 180 in 2016

No video footage available for most of the tournament barring the matches Akmals are playing,

PSL in a months time meaning this tournaments performances would be forgotten sooner as there is no clips to look into. A wasteful tournament just to fill the slots for the PCB and the selection committee nothing to come out of it, batsman wise.

Can see Mukhtar Ahmed and others don't have the heart to do well, they already feel this sytem has no place for them. Not everyoine can be a FAwad Alam or a Fakhar Zaman who keeps on toiling and never lose hope with nothing but talent on their side.

Was watching Fawad Alam interview yesterday given how he was thrown out of the side for a non-performer like Shoaib Malik and still striving to work hard, made me more angry than happy on the PCB's corrupt ways.

do u think the guy is suitable for odi openeing?? he must be good to do it regularly in domestics.

Who knows but he gets lots of hate at pp
Guy was given too many chances in TESTS but has been a big fail in Tests.
Needs to be tried atleast in few ODIs

He's the reverse Fawad Alam.

Khurram was great in List A Cricket never got a proper run, instead got chances in TESTS, disappointed, got dropped forever. Fawad was great in First class Cricket, never got a proper run in Tests.

We all know there can be max 1 or 2 players from Karachi in the national side, otherwise it becomes Nazimabad XI and not acceptable to Punjab Cricket Board. If Saud/Khurram have to be selected one of Sarfaraz or Rumman will have to be dropped.

Amazing knocks by Khurram Manzoor, Saud and Fluke Lord Abid Ali.

Good innings by Mukhtar and Khushdil as well.

Rumman is meh in Odis, replace him with Khurram, if he fails then Saud.

Khurram is an A-grade domestic bully who is 5-7 years too old to be inducted now. Plus his technique isn't all that, he can only play on slow and low pitches of Pakistan. Saud Shakeel is very classy player, but he is in the mould of Haris Sohail and cannot really blast bowling attacks which really is the requirement of our tuk tuk batting lineup.

will be massive upgrade on Hafiz and co....a handy bowler and a genuine strike rotatotor. You have to pick the best available squad and he makes it on merit but it looks like they don,t like north Nazimabad team.

Khurram is a hack agreed, but he deserves his chance in Odi because of his List A record, he has the ability to play
aggressively, he's better than Azhar and Imam for our Odi squad of 2018. I'd rather have Khurram and Mukhtar in the team instead of Azhar, Imam, Shehzad, Shan, Butt.

Fakhar and Sharjeel were also dismissed as hacks, domestic bullies as well, but they deserved a chance because of their performances in the domestic cricket. If Khurram and Mukhtar fail after a run of games, drop them, as simple as that.

Good to see Fahim scoring runs consistenly. The improvenent in his batting can help our ODI team a lot.

Looks like 2 teams from Lahore cost the City.

This (splitting) is a joke to be honest - if there has to be multiple teams for a large Metro, it should be 1st team, 2nd team, 3rd team ... not splitting top 15 players and make both teams weak.

No interest in Abid Ali scoring 209* off 156 balls? He is a wicket keeper too.
