[REPORT] ICC referee Andy Pycroft apologises to Pakistan team over handshake row [Update@ Post 310]

Are you sure?
It might happen again today.
Well. As I said, if India wants no handshakes, then so be it.. Make it a habit for every upcoming game.. No handshakes between India and Pakistan... Simple.

But hypocrisy comes when Surya shakes hands with other Pakistanis like mohsin naqvi, or oman, or UAE players, or pakistanio umpires...

Issue is not with Pakistanis.

Issue is with Pakistan. Since the team represents Pakistan, no handshakes.

The individual players who play for Oman or even the umpires are not out there representation Pakistan as a natiion.

These aremy humble findings

Indian volleyball team shook hands with Pakistani volleyball team without any drama.

So, all of these are just gimmicks. They believe in selective boycotting. :yk

This whole drama is for cricket.. Hypocrisy it is

If I were Andy Pycroft, you would be apologising to me': R Ashwin rips apart Mohsin Naqvi's PCB for unnecessary drama before UAE game :kp

Ashwin himself was a big drama queen.

I still remember Ashwin making drama during South Africa tour. He also made drama with various mankading incidents. Even his retirement was dramatic.

Naqvi did the right thing regarding Pycroft. Pycroft acted like an Indian agent. It was good that Pycroft apologized. :inti

True, it was fun seeing a terrified Pycroft apologising in the muted video.

That's what you get for acting like an Indian Agent. Hope the other match referees and umpires who are bought out by BCCI gets the message.

Naqvi is not man to be messed with.

Ravichandran Ashwin speaking on his YouTube Channel:

“Understand what a match referee’s role is. The point is, if the game is being conducted properly, then the referee has actually done the right thing. Just imagine—if after the toss, Salman Ali Agha had gone to shake hands with Surya, and Surya had turned away and walked off, how bad would that have looked?. So Andy Pycroft actually saved everyone from witnessing such a poor spectacle. And India had already informed the match referee in advance that this was their decision and they would stick to it.”

“Now, after all this, the match was lost. Pakistan lost the match. So go and figure out what could’ve been improved in the game. Please—just because there was no handshake doesn’t mean that’s why you lost. You’ve actually put your own team in a tight spot. Your team—you’ve cornered it yourself. Now I don’t even know who’s under pressure. India won’t be under pressure because they’re playing really well and will come even harder. Pakistan will have to somehow find a purpose that’s at least competitive.”

“If no handshake was your problem with India, why were you looking for an answer to that problem in the UAE game? Why did you have to make Andy Pycroft the scapegoat? He has done nothing wrong.”

“He is not a schoolteacher. He’s not a principal. He can’t go and bring Surya and say, ‘Come shake hands’. That’s not his job. What exactly is Pycroft’s fault here?”

“You filed a complaint against India, and when the dust settles, you’re saying Pycroft apologized? If I were Andy Pycroft, you are apologizing to me. What would I even be apologizing for? ‘I’m sorry that Suryakumar Yadav didn’t shake your hand’? Really?”

“When there was no handshake, what did Pakistan do? Salman Ali Agha showed his dissent during the post-match presentation, and that’s fine. If you wanted to make a statement, you’ve made it—now leave it there. Saying “I won’t come for the match” or taking it further isn’t the way forward.”

Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin on PAK vs IND handshake row:

"I feel that there was nothing wrong with shaking hands. When you are playing the match, you might as well play with everything, like shake hands or whatever. I don't know what the problem was. I really cannot understand. But I don't feel there was anything wrong," he said.

"When you're playing in protest, you might as well not play. There's no point playing under protest. Once you've agreed to play-be it ICC events or the Asia Cup-then you must play with full intensity. Otherwise, there's no need to play at all."

PCB's mishandling of the situation or losing the match doesn't excuse India triggering this whole affair. Pycroft was only told four minutes beforehand of India's decision to not shake hands.

Both boards were remarkably naive and incompetent going into this Asia Cup with their business as usual mindset and not preparing protocols for exactly these kind of potential banana skins.

Better lock his doors Azharuddin

This no handshake thing has certainly spiced up things even further and it will be interesting to see what happens today with all this stuff apart from the bat and ball battle.

Part of his job is ensuring the players show respect to their opposition and thank them after the game. India clearly didn't do that so he should be punishing them. Pretty simple.
