Mar 2 (ANI): A day after his return from Pakistan, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman on Saturday informed the top brass of Indian Air Force (IAF) that he was subjected to a lot of mental harassment, though he was not physically tortured by Pakistan military authorities, said a source.

The Wing Commander was also medically examined here, considering the fact that he had ejected after his MiG 21 was shot down in PoK air space while chasing Pakistani fighter planes which had transgressed into Indian air space on February 27.

Before his plane was shot, he had hit a Pakistani F-16.

Earlier in the day, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa met Wing Commander Varthaman at the Army RR Hospital here.

During a separate meeting with the Air Chief, Varthaman briefed him about his detention in Pakistan, officials said.Wing Commander Varthaman was expected to be debriefed by the IAF on his detention in Pakistan, which is yet to take place.

After a delay of over five hours, Varthaman stepped on the Indian soil through Wagah border, Amritsar in Punjab, on Friday night at 9.20 pm. He was in the custody of Pakistan Army since Wednesday when his parachute drifted and fell inside Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

On Wednesday, Abhinandan was chasing Pakistani F-16 fighters which had transgressed into the Indian airspace, and in the process, his MiG 21 Bison crossed over to Pakistani side and was shot down.

He ejected safely but was taken into custody by the Pakistan Army upon his landing.

On Thursday, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan announced the release of Varthaman, calling his move a “peace gesture.”

India also used diplomatic and military pressure to ensure that Pakistan releases Varthaman unconditionally, top sources said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made no compromises on Pakistan’s proposal for holding talks, said sources.

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval held talks with the US and other P-5 countries, sources said. The External Affairs Ministry also exerted pressure on Pakistan through the Arab world, they said. (ANI)

He's not the Saudi Prince to get a hug and a peck on the cheek from Imran. He's a POW. India and Pakistan should move on from this saga ASAP as playing politics on this issue looks cheap.

MIG bhai why you sharing news from this ANI, all throughout this standoff this media group was on the forefront of spreading fake news.

Even in this report they have things like "his parachute drifted into Pakistan side of Kashmir" "He shot down Pakistani F-16" etc etc

Haha it was all expected, so nothing surprising.
A colonel rank person is getting mentally harassed??? So fragile :)

Good catch.

This episode has taught me how cunning, manipulative and shameless the Indian media is while there is hardly any decent person in Indian population to call them out. Instead Indians are blissfully eating up all the fairytales their media feeds them. People in Pakistan may have many traits in common woth Indians but I have come to realize that Pakistani public is a lot more critical about their media, government and leaders.

The Indian media intentionally lies without any sense of shame and when the lie is caught and pointed out the intellectual Indians on the net have a very simple excuse: "No Indian official said that". So instead of scolding their own media for spreading lies they choose to look the other way. While the media keeps on lying despite their own army official clarifying the official Indian stance.

Almost a week has passed by and Indian army hasn't been willing to verify whether 200-300 terrorist died or not. But the media is carrying on with its narrative and the delusional Indians are making posters about it.

Here again another narrative is being pushed that the loser pilot who got captured by the enemy is actually a hero who shot F16. When in reality the most their own official are willing to claim is that the IAF shot down a Pakistani F16. They never said it was the Abhi guy.

But Indian media will do it's best to carry on the myth until it becomes part of Indian folklore. What's the point of Indian officials holding any kind of press conference when Indian people are just going to run with their own stories and wont bother revising their claims once corrected.

ANI

They get their news from Bollywood script.

Mental torture? Hard to believe if you look at his body language and the way he spoke.

Anyway, this was expected.

he doesnt want to lie about shooting f16 so india sending him to a mental asylam, :)))

even indian soliders are safer in pakistan then in that mad country of theres

Every celebrity and sports person has to declare their Nationalism and Patriotism to feel safe in Modi's and loud mouth Aunty of India, Arnab's India.

Imagine this poor pilot might go through, he stand no chance, if he doesn't follow the script he might be called a spy by loud mouth Aunty of India, Arnab.

India’s extremism has now been exposed to the world.

I know a lot of good Indian people and hopefully they will push back against their home grown extremism and restrain its terror...

Indian media lives in their own world lol, the desperation is quite visible to the neutral eye. This is not even fox news level this is more like Alex jones infowars level reporting lol. I asked my colleague who is from banglore about Indian media he told me he never watches or trusts Indian news lol such is their credibility.

They can't.

Hindutva extremism is so prevalent and loud in India that it would years to tackle it back.

I wouldn't be surprise if there is communal violence before it is subside.

Yes that is my fear too.
The quicker India is declared a terrorist state/country the better.
They have so much blood on their hands.

Wonder how the Indians here on PP feel about this? To be living in a terrorist country..

Sources:
we were in pakistan airspace for 21 minutes, stopping by the duty free shop on the way back
we flatted a training camp
300 people died
our brave pilot in his widow-maker shot down and f16
see this picture of debris : this is f16
see this picture of debris: this is an american made missile that can only be fired f16 (waaah! daddy daddy - ie US - look he hit me with your weapon, which you told him not to use against Us waaah!)
well, we hit what we wanted to hit, but it would premature/immature/(amateur?) to say what how many people died
we cant confirm 300 kills, but we do hope to get 22 more seats in the election
no point in showing any videos of our mission because the other side would deny it
sooo...about that early incursion, we didnt technically go in to Pakistan, we just fired from our side using stand-off spice missiles
so about that 21 minutes time in Pakistan: that time was from the whatsapp notification i received of this news from bakht-central to the time it took me to write a click-bait article.

What a bunch of amateurs.

India isn't a Muslim country nor India has oil.

Same here. Can't stand some of these loudmouth and joshilay anchors like Arnab.

Mentally weak. No wonder he got shot down

Lol.
I think that Arnab guy is a copy of Alex Jones. NDTV seems the best for me. They have decent anchors who analyze better than others. The English channel is free on their website.

Even if he was, then it's NOT against the laws. A lot of pakistani and Indian POW used to get mentally harrassed.

These Indians should look up how POW's were treated by Nazi Germany, Japanese, Soviets during WW2.

He was kept in solitary cell - This is best for his security safetye also. No other prisoners can cause him harm. A soldier should be able handle solitary confinement, they are warriors of their nation.

He wasn't given access to internet or tv - Haha this one cracks me up. He wasn't invited here on daavat that we give him internet to check his facebook and watch cartoons on tv.

He was put under lot of mental stress by our army - He is an enemy of the state. He was on a mission to invade Pakistani airspace and drop bombs in our land. What did you expect? Maybe army should have played loodo with him, but he has to choose one of the colors besides green. Green is our color. Would that be too harsh?

Funny post. :misbah

This was pretty obvious from those forced videos. Hopefully it wasn't too traumatizing.

Some people here think that it's not torture unless you cut off their fingers.

Mental torture isn't accounted for in the war. You're allowed or at least not banned from doing it. U just can't physically harm them. So it's better if you don't cry over it.

I think the Pakistanis treated him incredibly well and deserve credit for his treatment and swift release.

However, put yourself in his shoes for a second. He gets shot down and then smacked around by villagers.

He is then captured by Pakistani army. Over the past few days we have seen a glimmer into the hindu establishments mindset. Who knows what level of indoctrination this chap has been subjected to in his 'training'. In India even pigeons are deemed as Pakistani threats.

Now having had all that indoctrination about the dangers of Pakistan, one can only imagine the type of scenarios going through his head.

In fact one can reasonably say that the lack of torture would have felt like torture. This poor fellow must have been wondering what the nefarious Pakistanis were upto and what he would have to go through.

So in all honesty I have some sympathy for his plight and his ordeal ( or lack thereof) should not be dismissed so flippantly.

In Pak he was singing our praises and now on about how poorly he was treated. He would have been harshly interrogated and questioned for sure. If this means mental harassment then so be after all he was from the enemy camp.

I have contrary information. He was staying with PAF pilots and was given access to tv. The bad part was PAF pilots had the remote and there are reports he was continuously shown Indian news channels and how he bravely shot down an F-16 etc.

It was a lot of mental harassment for him so give him a break please.

God level Trolling activated:maqsood

:)))

Just imagine that for a sec - you are abhi a defeated man, failed on your mission caught by the enemy, in there lockup

Completly exhausted thinking how you let your nation down and what your family must be hearing about your failed mission

Then the PAF pilot comes in and says 'i want to show you something'

He puts on the indian news and you hear your a hero in your country for taking out an imaginary f16

WHAT WAS ABHI SERIOUSLY THINKING AT THIS POINT?

Did i suffer concussion and memory loss from the fall or the mob attack??????

:)))

Can someone confirm if he came to Pakistan to visit his puphi? Looks like the tea wasnt fantastic after all
