That Pakistan cricket is in a disarray is not in understatement. In fact, the entirety of the year 2019 has been one-never ending nightmare for all those involved with Pakistan cricket as well as their fans. The year started with a Test series drubbing at the hands of the Proteas which was followed by a sequence of 11 back-to-back defeats in One-day cricket, including a 0-5 shellacking at their rented home in Abu Dhabi at the hands of the Australians.

The World Cup did not start well, either! A chastening loss in the tournament opener where their batsmen were bounced out by the West Indies pacers was followed by an equally disdainful loss at the hands of arch-rivals, India. All hell broke loose following the defeat against India and skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed’s nonchalant yawning during the matters even worse with fans trolling the hell out of their captain on social media by posting hilarious memes, GIFs and whatnot!

Pakistan did recover after that set-back, and went on to win their remaining four games but was ousted from the tournament courtesy their poor net run-rate. Following another failed World Cup campaign, the PCB made sweeping changed in the selection panel and the team management. Sarfaraz Ahmed was retained as the captain while Misbah-ul-Haq was given the triple responsibility of a head coach+ chief selector + batting coach.

But, with his first series under the new role ending in a humiliating 0-3 whitewash against an inexperienced Sri Lankan side at home, criticism has galore on the former skipper and the current one, Sarfaraz. There have been growing demands of removing Sarfaraz from the role of the captain.

Misbah-ul-Haq urges PCB to remove Sarfaraz as captain
And, now if the reports published in The Express Tribune are to be believed, Misbah-ul-Haq has made it clear to the PCB that Sarfaraz should not continue as captain and has already communicated the same to PCB’s CEO, Wasim Khan. Test opener Azhar Ali has emerged a strong candidate to take over as captain in the purest format of the game with wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan serving as his understudy.

As far as the limited-overs team is concerned, all-rounder, Mohammad Hafeez has come under consideration as Babar Azam is still inexperienced as skipper. The PCB is, however, reluctant to name a new captain for what is expected to be a tough tour of Australia. According to the source, the management is looking to give chance to youngsters in Australia. So, in case they fail the management can hide under the garb of transitions.

Before everyone starts raging, it's a "report" from an probably unrealiable source. So take it with a grain of salt

Also when is the squad going to be announced? I'm really interested in seeing the changes made. Probably going to be announced within a few days?

If that happens I will definitely boycott Pakistan Cricket team.
But don't see this happening even under Misbah ul Haq.

Are next ODI series isnt for ages, so no need for hasty decisions in naming a new skipper now.

Oh dear, please someone invent a new sport - I’ve had enough of cricket, can’t take it anymore.

*sigh... if it means giving Babar more time to blossom in all formats before being given captaincy, then sure I'm for it I guess. That is, assuming these reports are true.

The Professor's experience can not be matched. :hafeez will make us #1 in Test, ODi and T20. Watch. Storm is coming in face of The Professor :hafeez2

I think anyone who believes this is a good decision should go back and study Mohammad Hafeez's tenure as a captain. I would do the same for Azhar Ali.

On Sarfraz: Historically I've supported Sarfraz. I believe that Kamran Akmal overstayed his welcome in the National Team and Sarfraz was his rightful successor. Unfortunately for Sarfraz, he had to live through Adnan Akmal. That said, Sarfraz has been given more than enough opportunity to establish himself. He has failed to create a positive identity as a captain and he's never taken responsibility as a batsman. Sarfraz is now overstaying his welcome. It's now time for Mohammad Rizwan to take the gloves and a position in the middle order.

Mohammad Hafeez doesn't have a place in the team, so making him captain makes very little sense. Yes Pakistan hasn't groomed a captain. Even Sarfraz who was groomed, wasn't groomed correctly. Babar isn't a leader but he's our best professional. Give it to Babar and give the VC to Haris Sohail. Finally, develop cricketers to think freely and end this culture of sycophancy.

If Hafeez becomes our captain - I will personally boycott all our games

Misbah saying the captain has to perform and lead from the front, then he considers appointing Hafeez captain.

I could be spectacularly wrong but this is either

(a) Classic media kite flying where some random folk have too much time on their hands, not many real stories to write, and too much blank space to fill

Or

(b) Classic politicking where you float the name of a ridiculous candidate not just to discredit him, but whoever is the real appointment - however mediocre they may also be- comes in as a 'saviour' and is welcomed with relief.

It was a mistake to remove Hafeez from captaincy after 2014 T20 WC. He is one of the best tactical captains we have. But I don't think we should go back, it's time to go forward.

All pakistan fans should boycott watching cricket if hafeez is made captain.

Losing sleep until 4 AM tonight is fine, but if I find out here that Hafeez is the new LOI captain, tonight's not gonna be the only sleepless night I have as a Pakistan fan. :hafeez

Anxiously waiting on the official announcements.

According to the Express Tribune, the PCB will try and convince Babar to become LOI captain.

Which means if he doesn't agree, Hafeez will probably take charge temporarily.

I don't think the LOI captain will be announced today. They are going to talk to Babar tomorrow and then decide who will become captain.

If this happens then Wasim Khan and Ehsan Mani are the biggest frauds ever seen.

Babar is in line to be captain, if he declines then Hafeez will be temporary captain untill Babar is ready.

Let's hope Babar accepts becoming captain.

LMAO. Has Shoaib Malik retired? Because, we could just give him the captaincy and not bother with 2nd tier sportsman who has completed his useful life.

Is Imad Wasim dead? Selecting Hafeez makes no sense

There is no excuse or justification for giving Hafeez captaincy in 2019. He is 39 years old. 39.

There are several more reasonable candidates than him even if Babar declines the offer - Imam, Haris and Imad are all better candidates than Hafeez.

Heck, even Amir in spite of his past. He has retired from Tests and can fully focus on the ODI/T20 formats.

If PCB pull off this stunt, our fans should have enough shame to not support this farcical decision.

Hafeez shouldn't even be in the team, it would bascially be a Sarfaraz case again. A non-performing captain.
