Lol what? You said we gave the cup for him when I asked how, you brought India's game against England. That was not a knock out game so please explain how is Dhoni responsible for India's exit from the World Cup?
You are showing sympathy towards Pant and highlighting how he came when we were 4 down but intentionally forgeting Dhoni came when we were 5 down.
Jaddu was able to play that because Dhoni stayed there with him. Dhoni was not a hero in that knock out match but he wasn't a villain either. Pant and Pandya had a golden opportunity to repeat what peak Dhoni, Raina and Yuvi used to do for India but they failed.
I know its been more than 5 years but you have surely lost that sensibility and have slowly turned into a whining little fan.![]()
Dhoni should retire now. Everyone has to go some day, so it be.. He doesn't have much to offer IMO. India batsmen and captain should move on from him now.
Pant is the future of Indian cricket and he has shown signs that not only is he an incredible hitter of the bowl but he can build an inning as well. NZ game was an ultimate level high pressure and it was unfair to expect a 5-match guy to lead the Indian inning and save the team from a 5/3 situation. If he had a senior player on other end, he would have played a good support role well.
Remember, when Kohli played that 35 runs inning in WC 2011 final, there was Gambhir who not only was leading the batting but also taking up the charge and removing pressure from a young kohli who was initially struggling.
Pant didn't had any support, which is why MSD should have come up higher and hold one end, allowing Pant to bat sensibly and not been asked to play completely different kind of inning opposite to his natural game.
Really BVB?
Haha.
You have posted a lot of stuff in recent times for which I have had strong reactions.
A LOT of stuff.
I would never call you out just because of old times sake. And trust me, it took a lot of self control.
I have changed definitely over the years.
But you too aren't the same poster you were 5 years back.
The same can be said about you buddy. Looks like you have been on an overdose of the saffron kool aid in the past 2 years. You used to be a good poster, now you are just another bakht.
Good observation! But I don't think Dhoni could handle that role! We needed a proper No.4 specialist batsman! Either we should groomed him by now OR somebody else (Kohli himself dropping to No.4 & maybe including Mayank at No.3 would have served on that day! But the team management persisted with DK's experience, neither he could come at No.4 or even No.5, huh!) Perhaps the initial batting lineup with Dhawan as opener and Rahul at No.4 would have worked well, we should also have stuck to Jadhav (in place of DK) to bat at No.5 or maybe Mayank. Dhawan's injury perhaps acted decisive, so with already underlying under-preparation issues this came like a big blow! Pant should have played in place of Dhoni or should never have got selected, too much to ask Pant to bat at No.4 (unless it is T20) Dhoni stayed in his comfort position (no.7) I don't think he would have done any better at No.4 (that's why he stayed back!) At No.7 he at least tried! Also Pandya coming at No.5 in all the matches was another stupidity!

Stokes playing a similar inning like Dhoni here. Lets see how many fans blame him if England doesn't win the final.![]()
Similar strike rate so far.Are we watching the same match? Lol

Similar strike rate so far.![]()
Dhoni should go, hes done but India needs to find his alternative. They currently have none in terms of stablizing the innings. Pant is hit and miss.

240 was not a huge total, personally speaking. A masterclass inning from one guy was enough to seal the game for India and Jadeja's inning was a masterclass.
Dhoni should have batted at 5, Karthik at 4, Pant at 6, Pandya 7 and Jadeja at 8.
Or if Pant at 4, Dhoni at 5, Karthik at 6 and Pandya at 7.
The idea is that Dhoni would hold one end while the likes of Pant, Pandya and Jadeja would make scoreboard ticking. The depth was there in India's batting for that particular match and 240 wasn't huge total. Should have chased with that lineup.
Yes, I agree that India should have played a specialist bat at 4 rather than wicket-keepers like Karthik or Pant but for that match, India had enough batting depth and 240 should have been chased even after the scoreboard was reading 5/3 considering that Jaddu played almost a masterclass inning.
The absence of specialist batsmen was again the reason for what happened in that match! If there was a specialist batsman there, he would have put his hands up and said that I will do this job for the team, I will take the responsibility (then what else he is there for?) The wicket-keepers just pointed fingers at each other and said you go first, you go next... Pant the junior most was made the scapegoat (No.4), Pandya the next junior became 2nd scapegoat (at No.6)... India just needed specialist batsmen at No.4 & No.5, that's it problem solved! At No.6 - one wicket keeper, No.7 - one A/R - Pandya! Jadeja was a bonus on that day (his special knock was probably not needed if No.4 to No.7 batsmen played their role properly! Of course Jadeja's innings would have made life easier and India would have won comfortably in comparison to how England won the tight game! In fact it looks Jadeja is good enough bat in Top 7, he also has some age left - like Shakib!)
But did we had any specialists batsmen??
Rayudu was dropped after being backed completely before the World Cup. Jadhav wasn't utilized at all after three years of completely backing him up before WC.
India either should have backed Pant post the CT debacle so that he would have had some experience going in the WC or asked MS Dhoni to bat at 4 or 5 in that match. The situation was perfect for him to come, grind out and hold one end. 240 wasn't a big total and his tuk-tuk was the exact need of that hour..
He should have retired at least 1 year before leading into the world cup. Cost India a game or 2 this world cup for sure..

Saint Dhoni!he could be part of the 15 but not part of the 11. This team needs a guiding hand on multiple fronts and wishing MS away is clearly unhealthy
Not sure what the beef is between Yuvraj's dad and Dhoni but the guy has a severe amount of disdain for MSD.
A former Indian Test cricketer and the father of one of India's greatest batsmen claiming the MSD purposefully under-performed against England to help enable Pakistan's exit, and that It was mainly Dhoni's idea and no one else in the team.

Rishabh Pant was thrown into test team to play in Eng and Aus, but he needs grooming in ODIs to be played in India![]()

Time for legendary Dhoni to hang up his boot. I think he has nothing more to offer.
He wants to play 2020 T20 Worldcup and then take a call.He is not going anywhere.

Pant is not ready yet
I feel Dhoni should play the next T20 WC. Indian blaming it all on Dhoni![]()
Youngsters need mentoring
There is no one better than him. Likes of Gill and others can learn a lot from him by just sharing the dressing room with him
Agreed and I hope Pakistan plays Malik, Hafeez and even brings YK and misbah back for T20 world cup. Pakistani youngsters need the support of these legends in next T20 WC.
HELL NODhoni atleast deserves a crack for the 2020 T20 WC. I think initially he would’ve loved to retire in a home World Cup like Sachin did but don’t think it will happen now.
Also. His performances in World Cup were good if he had been a #4 batsman. It’s Indian managements mistake that he played as a #7 at times

They are not performing and Dhoni is. He averages 45+ with a strike rate of 87 in this world cup. The solution is to weed out the non performers first. Kedar Yadav and DK should be the first booted out of the team .
Don't become Pakistan where everything is radical and the results are zero.

Dhoni, KD, DK all need to go. In fact all should have been thrown out back in 2017 if not 2015 itself. Next world cup is in 2023 none of them will play, no one cares about bilaterals so let's get a group of 20-25 players who will most likely play 2023 world cup and groom them..
Already lost a world cup because of poor management and planning. No point losing another
He should have retired 2 years ago, after CT. India always had and still have similar seniors problem as we do, I guess this is Desi thing![]()
Not Desi thing. What is happening with Malik is Desi thing. What is happening with Dhoni is different. Dhoni is bigger than BCCI, ICC, world cup etc. He is a money-making brand for the game of cricket. He has a staggering PR machinery. He is like a mythological character. He will go on his own terms no matter how much we think he should have gone 4 years back. He is still having ad sponsors queuing up for him.
Yes he needs to mentor the youngsters till 2027 worldcup and guide guys like pant and Gill well in to their 30's.
Yes he is bigger than SRT,Bradman and the game itself.Father time will put everyone in their place,Even the Mythological avatar of MSD.

The fab four
Dhoni, malik, hafeez and mortaza
They will never quit, no matter what!!!

Bhaag Viru Bhaag, don't you think Pant should had a senior player on other end guiding him in that run-chase in such a big game?

Rishabh Pant would have still gone for that glory shot and gifted his wicket away. He was batting alongside Pandya who is an automatic selection for all three formats and has been playing for the last 3-4 years for India.
I know you are thinking he is just 21 year old and he will get better with age. At the same age Yuvraj and Kaif chased 326 against England in 2002 Natwest Trophy final. Big players prove themselves on big occasions. They had no senior player to guide them on the other hand. They were both young and 20-21 year olds. Not to forget there was no IPL and no experience of playing along side big players in IPL as claimed by IPL fans themselves.![]()
Yuvraj had played 50 ODI games by then and he batted at 6 in that match. Kaif batted at 7. Latter is anyways a failure in international cricket, so can ignore.
India vs NZ game was Pant's 8th match. Atleast wait for total 20 games without concluding anything.
And it seems you are having issues with Pant and Pandya only. Why you dont have an issue with Jadhav who was also playing for last three years in ODIs and came the WC, he batted in merely a couple of games including the one vs England and hardly got any backing by team management to bat up the order and take responsibility.

I don't rate Jadhav either. I had issues with Jadhav as well but then sensible indian fan told me he is going be a special player few months back when he was scoring runs in India. I told him then that this Jadhav guy is going to fail abroad. Nobody hyped Jadhav anyway so we are all on the same page as far as Jadhav is concerned.
I am against Pant and Pandya as long as their f@nboys are overhyping them and think that these players are above criticism and deserves more chances. Their hypocrisy is exposed badly when a new comer they don't like plays for India. They want him out asap because they can predict the future then. But they have problems when someone like me says the same thing about their favorite boy.
Pant or Pandya may be world beaters and champion players in your opinion but in my opinion they are mediocre and inconsistent players who are going to cost india many matches in the future.![]()
