Why has former Prime Minister Imran Khan reportedly not been allowed to meet his family at Adiala Jail in recent weeks?
Why is he allegedly being kept in restrictive conditions without regular access to visitors or family members?
Is the current treatment of Imran Khan the result of political pressures within Pakistan’s power structure, and what does it indicate about transparency and due process?

Rumours claim Imran Khan is dead; family says police stopping all access

Speculations across Pakistan have intensified that former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been killed in prison. As these unverified claims spread widely on social media, his family and party members accused the police of using force against those attempting to meet the jailed PTI founder.

Three of Imran Khan’s sisters — Noreen, Aleema and Uzma — said they were physically attacked by police when they reached Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail earlier this week. They alleged that officers pushed and hit them, along with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters, as they waited outside the jail gates, according to a report by The Economic Times.

According to them, authorities have not allowed a family meeting with Khan for more than three weeks, despite repeated requests.

Several social media accounts, mainly operating from Afghanistan, circulated unverified posts claiming the Pakistan Army had killed Imran Khan inside prison. Officials have not issued any statement confirming such claims.

What has PTI alleged about police behaviour?

PTI said that Khan’s sisters and party workers were peacefully waiting outside the jail when police “pounced on them” for seeking a meeting with the former PM. The party described the incident as a “brutal assault” and called for a neutral investigation into the actions of the police.

The sisters echoed this demand in a letter to the Punjab police, saying the attack was “orchestrated” and carried out “without provocation”. They urged authorities to take strict action against the officers involved.

Imran Khan has been held in Adiala Jail since August 2023 in several cases. PTI claims he is being kept in complete isolation, without meaningful access to lawyers or basic reading materials.

Khalid Yousaf Chaudry, a member of Khan’s legal team, told Pakistani media that even books and essential items were being withheld. “The law of the jungle prevails here, where only the beast who rules has rights. No one else has any rights,” he said.

Another lawyer, Sohail Afridi, reportedly attempted to meet Khan seven times but was blocked each time by jail authorities

How did the protest near Adiala Jail end?

A sit-in led by Aleema Khan at the Gorakhpur checkpost near Adiala Jail ended after police assured the family they would be allowed to meet the former prime minister. According to an official statement cited by ARY News, officers held talks with Aleema Khan and PTI leaders and guaranteed access to Imran Khan on Thursday and again next Tuesday.

Before the agreement, Aleema had refused to leave the spot, saying she would stay until she was allowed to meet her brother. She claimed Imran Khan was being kept in solitary confinement, calling the treatment “oppressive” and “illegal”.

Some Rumours are ongoing on social media, I don't think those rumours are true and hopefully not. :kp

Hopefully not. I saw all of these rumors coming from Afghanistan sources, and then Indian websites. Pakistan is yet to officiate this news.
We are not ready for this.

Imran Khan probably should've stayed with cricket. He could've been a great cricket commentator or a coach.

It is sad what he is experiencing at this old age.

I've been hearing of some really disturbing rumor.

Yup.

Saw on Facebook that Imran Khan died. Not sure if this is true.

They are not letting his sisters meet with him. Not a good sign.

Despite my differences with the man, I certainly don't want this to be true. It will be shame on every Pakistani if it turns out true. Prayers for him and his family!

He should have never ventured into politics. He got nothing from it other than misery and trouble.

I agree.

He has cricket background. He should've gone into cricket coaching or cricket commentary probably.

Politics is very nasty (particularly 3rd world politics).

Why?

Because genuine leaders who defend their country, and keep doing so despite the cost, are incredibly rare.

Yeah. I respect him for that. He sacrificed his life.

Don't think most people have this type of courage. I don't think I would've done this for my country.

Something must have happened, because out of nowhere the geedar of Punjab has suddenly started giving his opinions openly.

I really feel bad for his sons. Their father has always been very dear to them despite their parent's divorce, and them growing up with their mother.

Despite the differences, have to appreciate him for having a backbone and standing up to the establishment. Only if the other parties had the similar courage, Pakistan might be on a different growth trajectory.

PTI demands clarification from govt regarding ‘rumours’ about Imran’s health

The PTI has demanded a clarification from the government regarding recent “rumours” about the health of jailed party founder Imran Khan, calling on authorities to arrange a meeting between the former premier and his family.

The development comes as Imran’s sisters have in recent weeks been repeatedly denied a meeting with him, leading them to question the whereabouts of the ex-prime minister and stage sit-ins outside the Adiala jail. Further, several social media accounts on X have shared unverified claims of his death, with Indian media also reporting on the alleged rumours about his health. The trend ‘Where is Imran Khan?’ was also trending on X on Thursday morning.

In a statement issued early on Thursday on X, the party said “rumours of a despicable nature” were being spread from “Afghan and Indian media, and foreign social media accounts” regarding Imran’s health.

The party demanded that the “current government and the interior ministry immediately and clearly dismiss and clarify the rumour and immediately arrange a meeting between Imran and his family”.

“A formal and transparent statement should be issued on behalf of the state regarding the health, security and current status of Imran,” the party demanded.

It further called on the state to investigate those responsible for spreading rumours of a “sensitive nature” and demanded that the “facts be presented before the nation”.

The party, in its statement, warned that “the nation will not tolerate any uncertainty regarding the status of its leader (Imran)”.

“The government is directly responsible for protecting Imran’s security, human rights and constitutional rights,” the party said. The PTI also vowed to take “every legal and political step to counter these rumours and bring the truth to light”.

Meanwhile, PTI leader Meher Bano Qureshi, who is also the daughter of former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, said on X that rumours regarding Imran’s health were concerning.

“The government is responsible for Khan sahib’s safety and is duty-bound to issue a statement updating the nation. As far as putting an end to these rumours goes, the best, most credible way possible is to allow Khan sahib’s sisters, lawyers and party members to meet with him,” she said.

‘Imran has TV, allowed use of exercise machine in jail’

Earlier on Wednesday, Defence Minister and PML-N leader Khawaja Asif had responded to a video on X in which Imran criticised ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif for demanding amenities while in jail.

“He (Imran) himself has a TV in his jail cell … and his food comes from outside,” he claimed.

“There are exercise machines available for him as well,” he added.

Asif, recalling his own time in prison, said, “We used to sleep on the cold floor and eat the food [prepared] at the jail.”

He continued: “It was the month of January, and we had only two blankets, and there was no hot water.”

On the other hand, Imran, he alleged, had “a double bed and velvet bedding”, claiming that the jail superintendent personally tended to him.

Asif called on the PTI founder to “listen to his own speech on the jail’s loudspeaker,” adding that “he (Imran) should fear God.”

Imran, imprisoned since August 2023, is serving a sentence at the Adiala jail in a £190 million corruption case and also faces pending trials under the Anti-Terrorism Act related to the protests of May 9, 2023.

The party has previously also raised concerns over the health of Imran, who is 73-years-old.

DAWN NEWS

Pakistanis shouldn't trust the trash put out only by Indian and Afghanistan sources, and nobody else.
It is also quote possible that these are PTI accounts making false rumours to try and get a reaction from the government or more concessions.

Nowdays you cant trust anything online. And when it is an Asian country involved the levels of distrust should be 10X more.

I am hopeful this is a lie, I hope to see him free soon even if a deal needs to be done with Munir.

It would make no sense for the military to kill him, they would probably lose what little support they have left. If he's died then it might be ill health, but again, why cover it up? I would wait for confirmation before commenting further.

Well if it is ill health then the Military/Incumbent Government will also be responsible.

Lets hope he's alive and well

If its True( and at this stage I don't believe the rumours as its an incredibly stupid and evil thing to do) then Munir, NS, SS, Billo, AZ and Maryam will be tried for murder. Politics isnt fixed and events change.

Litmus test for the nation Pakistan if the rumor is true. Do they want real freedom or be the subjugated masses eternally to the leeches? A dead Imran would be far more dangerous than alive for a valiant nation.

Japan Media Also reporting this rumours. :kp

Why can't establishment release a picture/video to his family and fans, if he is fine?. It means they don't either care about his family or not answerable to people . I think both are true .am guessing pti pushed the rumours/news through their indian/afg friends to make a bigger noise .

You could be right I'm waiting for something to come out of isreal so it goes all world wide

PTI> Afghanistan > India > Israel

Pti are friends with Afghanistan and Afghanistan are friends with india and india are friends with israel think isreal will break it worldwide to create noise in pakistan

Government are doing the right thing for now by staying quiet

Absolutely not. IK poses no danger, dead or alive, when the whole nation has decided to accept its fate without question.

But sure, Lahore’s shiny new roads mean Pakistan is suddenly doing great.

So long, Imran Khan.

He thought he could rely on enough people in Pakistan to get his justice movement going and shield him from the might of the establishment. Alas .. all of them turned out to be spineless cowards, who ran away at the first sight of the khaki danda. Tragic.

Most of his following is actually from overseas Pakistanis he’s got only around 30% support within the country its the most in the country but all other parties combined out do him

Those that expect a revolution, people coming out on the streets, remember the country is run with an iron fist, by those that have no hesitation jailing or even killing women let alone men who want to stand up to them.

This isnt a PK army, its an occupying force that kills anyone that challenges their rule and privileges and most importantly backed by the West. The mask has well and truly come off- you worship at our feet or we kill you. There is no Islamic values, no Liberal values, no humanity or a conscience, worship us or prepare to die.

Hope IK is ok. I don’t think the Pak deep state is so dumb to assasinate him and cause more anarchy when the internal situation is already tense. They are backing themselves to a corner. Pakistanis think IK is indestructible and fit because he was an athlete 40 years ago; he is 70+ , wish him good health but at his age even if there are some natural health issues, public will blame the “Pak establishment”. Very confusing and shady whatever is going on.

However what is confusing to me, is if Pak isi media wing can photoshop and manufacture proofs for public consumption about Rafael etc, how difficult it is to just show a leaked pic of Imran 🤷‍♂️

Imran Khan’s fans are overseas Pakistanis and middle class-urban Pakistanis. Those are not the kind that is associated with street power. Forget pellets, guns etc, a couple of wooden lathis from a couple of out of shape constables is all that’s needed and they will disperse in 10 mins. You need street power.

He won a 2/3 rd majority in PK. The overseas guys didnt vote. Punjab has always been docile and has never shown any passion for anything.

Funny how Afghan and Indian media were trying to spread this news as if it will cause some ruckus in Pakistan.

If he is sick or just too old, i think its better if he is placed under house arrest in Zaman Park.

Dont need to make a false martyr out of him.

The only issue is, once they allow him out, he does start doing campaigns, that will be a problem. He is a criminal at the end of the day, and unless he promises to not do campaigns and stay under house arrest he cant be let out.

Why wasn't KP CM not allowed to meet him today despite having the court approval?
If after getting elected to CM, your priority is to meet the party head instead of looking after your province, than that shows how messed up the party is and that province is also doomed.

Imran is a criminal and is in jail. The KPK CM needs to worry about the mess KPK is.

Oh plz.

This isnt a hollywood movie.

At the end of the day, he is in a jail surrounded by police officers. Police officers are the biggest touts in Pakistan, and there are always supporters amongst them aswell.

If any such death does take place, the news would get leaked to the family and the party officials.

According to Geo, the jail officials from the Rawalpindi prison said the following in a statement.

"He is fully healthy and receiving complete medical attention."

They also stated that there is no truth to reports about his transfer from Adiala jail.

Wow, this answer I would expect from the likes of @Devadwal.

He is allowed to meet anyone he wishes, and besides he had authorisation from high court. How can he be denied? Why have the pretence of rule of law then?

Like i said, your concern should be why the CM is not focussing on his province which is a mess at the moment. Him meeting a criminal is not important.

No one cares who he is allowed to meet. He only makes himself look like a joke when he is sent back every time.

If the establishment is confident that Imran Khan is safe and healthy then allow him to meet his family and lawyers today. Munir itself is creating all the chaos but some idiots blamed on Afghanistan and india.

:kp

If he makes himself look like a joke, how do you think most good people here perceive you?

If that was true, then why would the army even fear him? Overseas Pakistanis can't organise protests or street power. It's exactly because they fear he can stir the masses at home that they have locked him up and won't allow him access to the media.

You make no sense.

It makes a joke of the country and its constitution and exposes hypocrites like you.

when your main concern of a CM is not his performance in a province but doing hazoori to a criminal, you know the party is a cult.

Nope. He is a criminal. He cant be directing a party from jail or organizing political campaigns.

Cm KPK is sitting outside adyalla jail ike a dog, instead of focussing on what is happening in KPK
