"Sarfaraz Ahmed is not a good wicket-keeper" : Ramiz Raja

His brain fades with bat have been absolutely disgraceful, muppet continues getting out in same fashion.

There was no extra bounce. Sarfraz often expects the batsman to hit it (especially when keeping to spinners) and just sits there without reacting until it is too late.

I get the sense that Sarfaraz is falling out of favor with management.

1) There were tweets that the braintrust labelled his last match innings "selfish."

2) Threw away his wicket today and started the collapse

3) Poor keeping

Sarfraz should be benched for next game. His keeping is leaving a lot to be desired and lack of responsibility is alarming

I did not watch the complete game.

How did he do today? How was his performance?

Missed a potential game changing, fairly simple stumping.

Just read the cricinfo commentary....seems he threw away his wicket when he had done all of the hard work...now a routine practice from him.

Has he now taken his spot for granted and does not care anymore?

The best word to describe Sarfraz's performance is 'Akmalesque'.

He lost us the game with his reckless batting and keeping. He'll be falling out of favour in ODIs pretty soon, he already has Rizwan breathing down his neck.

Seriously lacking the commitment right now. How can an international level keeper have a belly like that!?!?

I'll call it a spade of spade, of I see it. But seems liek many here didn't watch the miss-stumping or have other agendas.

He got blinded by Buttler, who then missed the straight ball which then bounced high on Sarfraz's arm.

Nothing simple about it at all.

Keepers get blinded regularly, in that case, your instincts take over. And no it did not bounce high on his arm, he simply didn't have the reflexes to react fast enough which made it seem so.

Most international standard keepers would take that 9/10, Sarfaraz would miss it 7/10.

Buttler also missed a couple of stumpings similar, if not easier to what Sarfraz missed.

It happens, move on.

Butler isnt a great keeper either .

Sarfaraz is not a natural , hes bound to have bad games & if he does not start scoring , I dont think he should be an automatic choice in ODIs . Thats assuming there are other options though.

Of course. His batting hasn't helped his cause at all. He gets set then gives it away.

What? Really? Its an overexaggeration.
First of it was a seam up delivery by Malik.
Secondly it was played on the full by Butler I think. 3rdly the ball bounced off the pitch and hit him square on the shoulder.
The unpredictable bounce made him miss the ball.
Seriously some people are just messed up.

Yea you would know about keeping maybe coz you are an Akmal fan.

You should have a thesis on dropped catches and missed stumpings.

The pitch had unpredictable bounce and some good turn off the pitch which it made difficult to play spin on both sides.
Morgan and Hales good out to deliveries that had alot of turn. Few of deliveries stayed very low while others jumped off the pitch.

It is also a reason why Irfan threatened so much with the new ball spell because of unexpected bounce that he got. And fast bowlers were bowling alot of cutters because it got them bounce off the pitch.

Of course. His batting hasn't helped his cause at all. He gets set then gives it away.

people want him to play aggressively but the same time if he gets caught in the deep then its throwing away.. he was trying to counter attack after hafeez wicket and target moeen ali not rashid which was good, but unfortunately it dint catch the distance it needed... it happens, what other three batsman did after sarfraz wicket should also be noted, malik completely shut the boundary doors and rizwan threw away his wicket which was childish, and then ifthikar what a hack he is...

Counter attack is fine, but you realise he along with other can hit the ball on the ground and get 4s too. It's not always about the maximum. That was the downfall of Akmal and to some extent Maqsood too.

Also it's not as if he hasn't done this before either, it's been done numerous occasions, in Tests and ODIs.

Being aggressive shouldn't mean getting caught on the boundary. There are other ways too.

And I'm saying all this because I like Sarfarz, but I won't be blinded by his mistakes either.

I've a question for you..is this the first time he missed an opportunity? Isn't it becoming his habit? He dropped a catch off Malik in the 1st ODI too.

Of course it's becoming a habit, but we don't praise him when he converts the difficult chances, yet we're the first ones to moan when a chance is missed.

Also the commies also stated the chance he missed in the 1st ODI was a difficult one for any keeper, but hey whatever.

so he can only take dolliest of dolliest catches? What kind of a speciliast wicket keeper he is? I thought he was the next coming of Rashid Latif with his gloves? I thought he was super fine keeper? what happened to all these myths? I'm sorry but this is not the best excuse unless we all agree Sarfraz is a great ODI batsman who is a part time wicket keeper. DO you agree he is doing with the bat to hide his weaknesses with the gloves?

If he can't grab tough chances then we might as well throw gloves to Hafeez.

I don't know who called him a "super fine keeper" because it wasn't me :))

All I heard was Latif saying he was our best WK in Pakistan currently.

But I also realise there's users on here with agendas, that have issues with his presence in the side and whatever he does/doesn't do is magnified 10x.

But I'm just interested in who would be his replacement that can also bat?

That's the question some need to ask, and only then we'll know. As long as it's not Akmal I'm fine with it.

Btw your reply is very confusing regarding taking touch chances :P

Read it back to yourself but after you've read my post.

Rather have Rizwan keep but thanks to our fielding standards people are desparate for him to be in the field.

What other options do we have? Youngsters like Rehan Afridi are a bit too raw imo.

Umar Akmal is no happy with the job and isn't very good at it.

Kamran and other TTF's shouldn't get near the squad so they shouldn't even be considered.

What do we do?

Thread full of knee jerks. As someone said above, one bad game gets magnified 10x.

However, the same guy has been taking brilliant catches for months and some amazing stumpings, keeping against Yasir/Zulfi/Ajmal - they all sleep and no appreciation thread is created.

Butler/Watling who are either a level below or similar don't get the same attention, nobody watches their every fumble and magnifies it 10x.

There's no better option atm, Rizwan is a poor keeper and a great fielder, Akmals no way. He's the best in the world right now, but his competition isn't great either.

I think now you are going way out of line here.

I hope you are not just trying to spread rumors here....How many bad games Rizwan has had as WK that you have seen?

The problem for a wicket keeper is that it is his job to take any catch that comes his way. One dropped catch can alter the result of a match. For a wicket keeper to be missing out on regulation chances is unacceptable.

a poor keeper wont be so good behind stumps in test matches . if he is so poor he would have been exposed in Test matches itself . he has missed one or 2 chances only in last 3 Test series (BD,SRL,ENG) and taken some great catches
all the commentators were praising his keeping in last test series .
Dhoni, Sanga etc miss chances easier than this that doesnt make them poor keeper

seen domestic games, rizwan's keeping is not much better then umar akmal. Rizwan also started keeping relatively late as well (20 years old)

In t20s you can get away with it, in odis probably not.

so you are comparing Sarfraz with Dhoni and Sanga now..HILLARIOUS! First of all they aren't this bad keepers. They don't have a habit of dropping catch per innings and secondly they 20x the batsmen Sarfraz would ever be. Sarfraz even averages below Kamran Akmal in ODIs. That speaks volume of his utility as a batsman.

Stick to Sarfi and Rizzu that's it. Rizwan do have technical flaws, but he can become better if PCB hire him some better keeping coach in NCA.

Ghar ki murghi daal barabar. He doesn't have great competition, so "best" is relative here.

He's been excellent and was all praises specially in the Test series, keeping against spinners and pacers both. That's where you're truly judged.

One bad match doesn't prove anything.

and you know about so much cricket because you have done A level coaching course?

You don't need to be a professional to see the mistakes Kamran Akmal has made, and the global fame he has received in making those errors. Foreign Commentators refer to the word Akmal in context with dropped catches.

What about Test Matches? Aren't Test Matches the standard with which a player's career is measured?
Unless you are a Malik fan ofcourse.

By any chance do you support Malik ??

What has this got to do with the comment I made? I support him because he is one of the better batsmen in this current team and he has proved that in the last few series. After being whitewashed from BD boys it was Malik and Hafeez who saved us from many embarrassing knocks and helping us qualify for the next champions trophy. When they fail the result is in front of everyone to see.

Even in tests he has been an average keeper but he did have a decent last series with the gloves. If he was doing okay why would threads like this get bumped again and again? You need to read "Sarfraz Support thread" to get glimpse of his great wicket keeping skills.

As far as his batting, he averaged 27 in the last series. But let's look at where he has scored most of his runs.

in UAE, 10 games he has averaged 47.
in SL, 2 games and he has averaged 78.
in BD, 2 games and he averages 121.

He averages 13 in SA, 3 in Aus and he is yet to play in NZ, WI and Eng.

UAE is Pakistan's home. Even Kamran was nothing short of a great batsman at home. He also averaged close to 50 odd at home.

His true test is coming up soon. and we shall see how much of test quality he possess? or he is just an ftb as his stats suggest?

He better delivers with the bat today. He is slowly turning into another Kamran.

Yasir Shah to Roy, 1 run, edged and dropped! A loose poke to a gentle leg-break, and that looked to have taken a deflection off the tip of the keeper's gloves which in turn baffled Rizwan at slip

an opportunity missed per innings..Sarfraz just being consistent!!

^ thats a deflection from keeper

either he should have gone for the catch or he shouldn't..Sarfraz struggles to make decisions at run time..Some times he lets catches go close to him by ball watching as well. You can't expect this stuff at this stage especially from supposedly a specialist wicket keeper.

Aaj plz sindh card karachi card na khelo. I support sarfraz. But admit it he is overweight and in last 3 series he is not satisfactory with either bat or gloves at any position in any format.

Not saying that bring kamran or Rizwan. But being professional sarfraz is not upto the mark. With the bat it's not like he is out of form or technical issues but he is playing such irresponsible shots every match at wrong time. Umar Akmal ki tarha bilkul 100 %. And very very average keeping .

He was our best player by a distance 3 series before and look at him now. With time you get better and you get mature. Not that ulta geyer and regress.

Ye pakistan ki team hai karachi ki nai. Bouncer is doing absolutely right.

Bro i neither mentioned any regional thing. Anyway coming to the topic here.
Pakistan needs to come up with 6 specialist batsman in top 6 and make sure that they have a settle batting order. You can't blame when the others are not supporting from the other end.
It's not about his weight or technical flaws. But the whispering that sarfraz has heard of his innings when he played a innings that setup Pakistan to a respectable total. He wants to slap critics with a quick fire innings.
Secondly it's a brain **** that it's a karachi or punjab side. Ye pakistan ki team hai and everybody who plays for pakistan is best in the lot.
Talk about a guy who knows what cricket is. Bouncer shouncer are totally nonsense. They play on regional biases and absolutely talk rubbish.
Sarfraz is a genuine match winner and Pakistan banks on Sarfraz

He's definitely gone missing this series. He doesn't look his fittest. Hasn't looked himself since he came back from Hajj. Maybe its the mental fatigue of playing a long series. Should've performed better than he did no doubt about it.

Agree with this, people want to drop Sarfi, then who will come? Rizwan? He isn't 2nd coming of Dhoni.
But i must say management should rest Sarfi in T20I series against England, he needs rest ( I hope people and media won't make a fuss if management really rests him in T20I series ::) ).
Just stick to the players you have, but give them proper run, proper position in team. There is no point shuffling position after every position, drop player after one match. If you want to bring stability in your team, then at least give them proper run.
Every one knows Sarfi is a hard working cricketer, i am sure if management rests him he will hit the nets hard and will try to regain his confidence. And if you bring some one else like Rizwan or any other new keeper, he will fail in one match or series and people would like to throw him out of the squad and to bring back Sarfi.

Who is rated then? Your rizwan? Or your akmal?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sarfraz is overrated in his own right, bringing Rizwan/Akmal to the table doesn't justify his poor performances both with the bat and gloves lately.

Fanboys will be fanboys of course.
