Sarfaraz Ahmed to become 8th Pakistani player to captain the national side in a World Cup

Regardless of their poor captaincies, they were great players, something Sarfraz has no claim to.

He is literally the captain who does nothing.

He does shout at his players and takes full credit when team wins. Mediocre players like him leading Pakistan national team in a world cup will always be remembered. It's not just a out his mediocrity alone but the way he captains and hides himself from tough challenges in batting and the way blasts his players in the media also adds to why people consider him worst ever captain to lead us in a world cup.

Rizwan scored 2 centuries against Aus despite being a water boy for literally 2 years and he is not even rated that much as a batsman. It really shows how lucky Sarfraz has been hiding behind the excuses of no one's better than him.

I am going to really love how he will be hiding behind Imad in the batting order and will be shivering in the dressing room during tense moments. Talk about being a socialist captain. He is not even good at that.lol on merit he worst not deserve to be captain but here we are.

The question is can Sarfraz inspire his team with his performance in the 2019 world cup?

Do you honestly think Sarfraz can do what Clive Lloyd did in the inaugural world cup final or how Steve Waugh lifted his team in 1999 by scoring a century in a must-win game against South Africa? Can you expect Sarfraz to take the additional responsibility like Imran did in 1992 and Dhoni in 2011? Is Sarfraz capable of taking the game away from the opposition like Ponting did in 2003?

I do not want to sound pessimist but I really do no see Sarfraz emulating any of the world cup winning captains.

the closest thing to that was his 61* versus Sri Lanka which was pretty much a Quarter Final.

But it did take multiple dropped catches to get there

You are forgetting he is a wicket keeping batsman. I would not mind him not playing exceptional innings like the players you mentioned but as long as he captains and keeps well and plays useful innings here and there I am happy..

He is a utility captain and we don’t have any better options.

And then you wonder why Pakistan is at the bottom of the table

You have to make do with your resources. If you do t have anyone better what can you do? Complaining about it doesn’t do anything.

He is a utility player. Dhoni was never a test class batsman but he is considered a legend.
If Sarfaraz can achieve just half of what Dhoni did being naturally and technically not a test class batsman (leads and keeps well and bats decent) we should be happy.

Now in the meantime if we find a better option, I would be all for replacing
Him but at the moment we don’t!

Fair point

There are better keepers and there are better keepers who can bat.

Sarfraz has nothing.

Four years ago we were all singing a different tune. I am sure in due time the players you have in mind will replace him like Sarfaraz replaced ones before him but it’s folly to think we should replace him so close to a World Cup. He has won us a big tournament in case you don’t remember and most of the guys are behind him..

So its best to shut the yapper and support your team! In my humble opinion :)

The myth that Pakistan does not have any better options has been busted big time. Rizwan in his first full series scored two centuries, something which Sarfraz has not done in more than 2 years. His captaincy is better but he's no Dhoni or Imran, otherwise Pakistan would not have lost almost every single match against any decent opponent under his captaincy.

Exactly.

Rizwan is as good a keeper and a better bat, so he is kept simply for captaincy?

Merit due to performance is more important than captaincy, always.

Rizwan keeping skills are worst than adnan akmal.......as a keeper he is not up to the mark....

Is the discrepancy with his keeping more than the discrepancy with the batting?

Not sure why we are acting as though Sarfraz is this great keeper. Further, Adnan is the best keeper of the three, and very good, not sure why you're comparing to him.

This is absolute myth. He made a couple of mistakes in 1 game against Australia and after that his keeping has been labelled rubbish.

Name me 3 more mistakes he has made it the last few games he has played for Pakistan?
