What's new

Second ODI between India [321/6] and West Indies [321/7] ends in a tie, India lead series 1-0

Nurse can hit brutally, but his head is like his size .....

Hope really lacks a power game. Reminds me of Babar.

Power game is myth - you need body balance, shift of weight and bat swing with timing, which every International cricketer has. Butler, Russell are exceptional, but our Mushi is 5'2", 125LBs. .......

I always wonder how Mushfiqur hits those big shots. He so short and probably weighs 100 pounds.

Yeah I mean his technique is not great when hitting.

His bat speed is excellent, being WK, wrists are wide & strong, he picks length earlier than most to get under the ball and his body balance with power transfer is one of the best in the game. If he was 6'0" with 170 LBs, he would have been better hitter than Butler, because his footwork is better.

He is very underrated. Don't get the hype that Shakib receives.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLL!!!!!!!

14 runs were too little for Yadavji to defend.

Its Tie :yk

Lmao, good fight from the Windies younguns. But they've got their bowling all in shambles. Alzarri and Gabriel need to be opening with Oshane as one down.

Have to say, very unprofessional chase by WIN, at least didn't lose the game. But, these type of games, if you can win makes teams mentally stronger.

This was more than enough to give them confidence that they can compete with the best in their den.

One of the worst batting performances in the last 6 overs. Shai Hope despite his 122, was diabolical in the last 6 overs.

Match lost by umesh yadav. Against non-sub con teams umesh and any military pace bowler should not be there. Even kumar would have saved the game for India. brainless....and had India been chasing without kohli would have lost by 30-40 runs. 3-man show in batting, 3-guys in bowling (kuldeep, chahal, bumrah). So if someone excludes pant for being a newbie, India is left with 4 non-performers at any point.

Great match. WI ought to be winning given they had three wickets spare. Nurse probably should've played a conventional shot instead of trying to be AB.

Anyway encouraging performance from Windies' young batsmen.

This was a choke from WI, any other team would have won from the position they were in (except BD who have a mental block in these scenarios vs Ind)

True, here a tie is like a win for them - most teams would have folded against spin pair just from the though of 321.

What was most encouraging that it was their two best batting prospects carrying the side. Really shows how mentally strong they are given the situation of their team and where they stand. Truly fearless.

Hope should have been the MoM for bringing WI this close, but who am I to say such things :viru

Misbah even on his day would have struggled to have scored to have scored a ton @SR of 90+ like Shai Hope did.

Today was a good illustration of how he took our team backwards.

But I won't dwell on his failings and say well done to both sides. Hetmeyer is some player I must say!

Happy to see Kohli cross the 10k milestone but as usual we'll hear usual suspects call him an inferior batsman to Amla.

20(25) from Dhoni & 13(14) from Jadeja cost us 20-25 runs at the end

Umesh now has a career economy of over 6
One of the worst odi bowler ever still keeps getting chances

These 3 are the weak link in the sides,we need to kick them out else they will keep costing us the games

All hail genius Kohli for such a tremendous team selection...

I see sage Dhoni failing again. Kohli deserves such 'losses '. Most clueless captain ever.

Great game. WI is shaping up to be a very competitive team and better than us.

I would prefer Shaw over Pant if Pant is not keeping.

Pant does not deserve a place in the middle order if he is not the keeper. Which means, MSD needs to be kicked out.

Rohit
Dhawan
Kohli
KL Rahul
Shaw
Pant W/K
Pandya
Jaddu
BK
Kuldeep
Bumrah

This should be the ideal team for the WC 2019.

MSD is throwing off the teams balance.

KL wont bat anywhere below the top three. So the no 4 is going to be Rayudu.
And two spinners in England?? Are we going to play all our games in Edgbaston?

Hope despite his hundred lost it for WI. Also, Holder played a very Dhoni-like inns, sucking all the momentum for no apparent reason. There is a reason WI are ranked so low in ODIs, they have a long way to go.

Still one of the best country to produce natural talents. They just don't have the leader to put them together as a group and get them work as a unit instead of a bunch of individuals.

They needed 73 in 14 overs! How on earth did they mess this up!

Fear of bottling up. Once that leftie was gone they decided not to lose wicket to spinners. Hope is not exactly a natural hitter. He had to play outside his capacity even to get there.

Kohli is such a garbage captain. Poor mentor, poor man manager, poor selector, poor planner, poor field setter, torture watching this clueless hack captain our national side in shorter formats. Can't believe we allowed this buffoon get his way with the Kumble sacking and Shastri appointment.

VIZAG, India – A well-crafted century from Shai Hope and a blistering 94 from Shimron Hetmyer led the WINDIES to 321/7 and a dramatic tie against India in the 2nd One Day International at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vizag.

Virat Kohli won the toss for the second time in as many matches and this time elected to bat first on a pitch that was devoid of green or grass. There would be no repeat heroics for Rohit Sharma as Kemar Roach had him caught by Shimron Hetmyer for 8, India 15/1. Virat Kohli strode out to the middle, 81 runs short of reaching 10,000 ODI runs. He and Shikhar Dhawan added 25 runs to their total before Ashley Nurse trapped Dhawan LBW for 29.

Then came India’s biggest partnership when Ambati Rayudu joined Kohli at the crease. The pair started slowly, easing the singles and twos around the tight WINDIES bowling. But the last third of the overs, the pair exploded and started carting the WINDIES bowlers around the ground. Young Obed McCoy making his ODI debut got Kohli to play a wayward slash only for Jason Holder to spill a difficult backward running catch.

Nurse was reintroduced and struck almost immediately when he bowled Rayudu for 73. McCoy did get his first ODI scalp when he bowled MS Dhoni for 20 and then a second when he accounted for Ravindra Jadeja for 13. Kohli powered on and finshed the Indian innings on 157 not out.

Bowling for the WINDIES, Ashley Nurse had figures of 2/46 and McCoy 2/71.

The WINDIES got a fairly good start from their opening pair of Kieran Powell and Chandrapaul Hemraj. With 36 runs on the scoreboard, Powell tried to go for one too many shots and caught by Rishabh Pant for 18. Hemraj looked set to trouble the scorers and bowlers. He struck 6-fours on his way to a solid 32 before being bowled by Kuldeep Yadav.

Shai Hope and Marlon Samuels joined forces but Samuels was out for 13 when the ball barely shave the stumps, dislodged the bails. In came the napalm of the WINDIES team, Shimron Hetmyer who along with Hope ignited the WINDIES innings. The pair blistered both the pace of Umesh and Shami and the spin of Kuldeep and Chahal. The pair was reminiscent of Usain Bolt on the track, sprinting between the wickets running singles and twos. Hetmyer showed just how special a youngster he is, placing calculated shots well beyond the reaches of fielders, into the stands. The pair posted a staggering 143-run partnership, which set the match nicely in favour of the WINDIES to level the 5-match ODI series. But Hetymer on 94 and a second consecutive hundred in sight, went for one too many big swings, top-edging to a patiently waiting Kohli who made no mistake holding on the catch.

The quick running and scoring continued with Rovman Powell and Hope. The pair added 32 before Kuldeep had Powell caught for 18. Captain Jason Holder then joined Hope. The scoring rate slowed for the first time in match, however the experienced batsmen kept the score ticking over. 47-runs later and some miss-communication saw Holder runout after he charged down the pitch for a single and was sent back by Hope.

Ashley Nurse came in and tried the “Dilscoop” the first delivery he faced. He then settled and gave the strike back to Hope. They added 15 runs before Nurse tried another scoop but was caught for 5. Needing 14 runs from the last over, Shai Hope had strike. He took quick twos, needing 5 runs off the last ball to win and 4 to tie, Kohli set his field to force Hope to hit out. Hope lived up to his name and went for the win. He slashed at the delivery from Umesh and it raced past the fielder on the boundary to allow for a drawn match for the WINDIES. WINDIES 321/7 from 50 0vers.

Hope finished on 123 not out, his highest ODI score and second ODI hundred. Roach finished on 0 not out. Kuldeep Yadav was the best bowler for India, taking 3/67 from his 10 overs. The series remains 1-0 to India with the 3rd ODI to be played in Pune on October 27.

In two consecutive matches, WI young team have scored 340 and 321. Phenomenal achievement for this young batting unit and a real shame for our bowling unit.

Last time when WI scored 300s back to back vs a top side, they won the ODI series in India in 2002.

In the end a great come back from India to tie the game. With 70 odd needed in last 14 overs you’d bet against the bowling side 9/10 games these days.
