What's new

Second ODI between India [321/6] and West Indies [321/7] ends in a tie, India lead series 1-0

WI should be happy with this total. Restricting India to 321 is a big effort. Had they got Gayle, Pollard, Bravo in their batting, WI could've chased this.

Kohli is a champ. What a player. I wish we could've seen a peak Shoaib Akhtar vs this Virat Kohli in a Test match. That would've been an immense battle.

Decent inning by captain. Hope he doesn't waste it with his captaincy.

He talks a lot about fitness but was almost dead man walking in last overs.

Pitch is very dry, taking turn and two paced. I don't think WI bowlers/fielders should be happy with this effort at all, this is a 260-270 pitch. All bar Kohli struggled here today, even Kohli had a torrid time for his first 50-60 runs. Also Rayudu-Kohli partnership rode on a lot of luck (2 clear dropped catches), another day we would have crawled to 250.

World XI won't chase 321 at Vishak under light - last time I recall NZ chasing 260 were all-out for 80 or so. IND won't have batted first had there not been a distinctive advantage. Also, even batting first Indian innings is built one outstanding innings - I hope WIN makes it within 100 of Indian total.

Coastal Regions do have dew in certain periods too. the_outsider

Yes I know its very difficult. But for WI to restrict India to 320 is a super effort given they don't have even one quality bowler. Also the fact that the two WI spinners went for a combined 94 runs in 20 overs suggests how difficult it is to play spinners on this track. India have got 3. However you never know what happens. A freak innings by someone or massive dew rendering the spinners ineffective and suddenly its game on.

What a load of tripe!

On another day we could have had Rishab Pant smashing a 150 or even MSD returning to his old destructive self.

Bad luck can go both ways. As can good luck.

Kohli has now scored more ODI hundreds since the start of 2016 (13) than any England batsman has managed ever (Trescothick and Root with 12).

Kohli is now fastest to 1000 runs in a calendar year ( 11 innings), beating his own and Amla's ( 15) in 2012 and 2010 respectively.

I was making a point that this isn't a flat pitch and that run scoring is difficult. Pant's list A record isn't flattering and Dhoni is done. I highly doubt on this deck those 2 (+Jadeja, Shami, Kuldeep) would have propelled us to 320.

Man India plays so much cricket... they have had South Africa series, England series, Asia Cup and Windies series back to back to back. So much opportunity to hone skills and test new youngsters. We on the other hand have six months layoffs :danish

We do play most cricket, not just to ODIs or T20s even Tests!

Unfortunately we have not tried enough youngsters. Across all fomats, currently we have 10 players above 30 (Dhoni, Jadhav, Ashwin, Rayudu, Karthik, Ishant, Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli, Shami, Umesh). Only till last year we have gone back to guys like Nehra, Raina, Parthiv Patel, Dhaval Kulkarni and Abhinav Mukund. For some reason, we are extremely reluctant to try out youngsters, all in the name of having experience at the 2019 WC.

Am I the only one who thinks Windies could chase this?

I've just turned it on and the outfield is lightening fast and the pitch looks pretty true (haven't watched the spinners bowl yet though).

Absolutely, he has all but managed to play only decent innings till date in all forms of the game. I wish I could watch him play a borderline good innings before I die, it would really make me glad.

Don't hold your breath. :ashwin

Good luck with that. You should have wished for something less improbable.

Indians getting too cocky in this thread where is BVB :inti

Reality check for the Indian bowlers. This innings from Hetmyer is so similar to the Delhi Odi in 1996 before wc if I am right from Jayasuriya - it was like a sign of things to come. Hetmyer requires good off spinner to be neutralized I think. And the pitch+conditions+bowling type +bowler selection not giving good results to India.

india losing this one. west indies showing 6 hitting provess better than 1s and 2s

That's how they won T20 WC in 2016 as well. If I'm not mistaken the Windies had highest number of dot ball percentage in the tournament as well as highest number of boundaries.

Dumb bowling. This guy hits in only one area. cow corner. That's it. Anywhere you bowl he just taps. 95% of the runs came against spinners.

Fear factor with non-chalance similar to gilchrist, j.suriya. It appears bowlers are afraid to bowl to hetmyer, this after IPL era. This goes to show guts-before-glory type players though very few have been succesful bring more color to the game.

This guy will be found out man. We have seen enough of these west indian sloggers Russell, Sammy, Pollard.

Hetmyet requires good offspinner. Anything into him, it will go into deep square leg or long on. Any why umesh not trying yorkers.

Dew is heavy. I think Kohli wanted to test their bowling line up to defend the total. That is the only reason he chose to bat first. I have no complaints. If WI wins so be it. No problem.

Good game awareness. Taking it easy through singles and doubles instead of being reckless.

Glad to see WI giving a fight, adds some badly needed life to an otherwise one sided series.

Kuldeep even in these conditions is threatening. Apart from few full tosses when he lands the ball batsmen struggle to pick him.

Absolutely fearless batting by these two youngsters. They deserve to win this comfortably

You are 'different' kind of fan

1. Will keep the series interesting.

2. Have always been a WI fan.

3. Our wrong approach to batting (courtesy our non existent middle order) needs to be exposed before the WC. Rather lose here than carry tortoises like Rayudu, Dhoni to next year's mega event.

Absolutely brainless from bowlers. Feeding into his body, easing out scoring for hetmyer.

MMHS this is why I said restricting India to only 321 here was a super effort from the Windies. The dew has quickened the pitch and the spinners are going for aplenty. WI just needs some smart batting here and they're home.

Rayudu already done enough to cement his spot.Dhoni doesnt need to

This loss will be blamed on bowlers

Match will be over , going by current rate in 45 overs. 350 was required here. Ind short by 30 runs atleast.

You were right with your assessment mate :)

Feel bad for the youngster. He played a brilliant knock and deserved a 100 there. Been a long time since I saw any opposition batter destroying our Indian bowlers, especially chaheel Kuldeep duo. Heck, even Litton Das didn't play this kind an innings though he tonked them for sometime. This lad Heytmer is going to be nightmare for all the teams in the years to come. Reminds me of Jayasurya and Sehwag.

Grandpa bowlers getting thrashed - Shami, Yadav and Jadeja

Umesh is bowlig half trackers, has learnt no skills at all in all these years.

Yeah but we still got enough.I agree with your general point, but today we had good score

320 on these pitches is barely par score.

Any good batting unit will score over 350. Our middle order did not fire. Scoring at under 80 S/R is criminal on these pitches. We are not in 90's era anymore.

Umesh Yadav is not an ODI bowler. He may have his good days, but he is still a back up player who should only play if someone is injured.

Overall, a very weak batting effort from India.

Discard this Umesh from LOIs. Let him stick to India B test team. Turning into another Shinwari.

Either slow balls or leg cutters or yorkers - no lenghth are allowed. Spectators know this much, why not umesh, shami?

Umesh Yadav = Shadul Thakur + Pace :))

Both should not be anywhere close to the ODI team.
