Shadab Khan and Yasir Shah performance watch in BBL for Brisbane Heat

Sydney Thunder 149/4 (17 ov)
Brisbane Heat 153/4 (16.5/17 ov, target: 151)
Brisbane Heat won by 6 wickets (with 1 ball remaining) (D/L method)
Shadab Khan 4-27-2(might become MOTM)

This was his last game for Heat in BBL - he will now join Pak squad for ODIs vs NZ

Absolutely world class. At 18/19. He is going to take well over 400 wickets.

In LOIs (ODIs and T20s) he'll be a handful. In Tests, he still has a long way to go. Needs to loop the ball more and deceive batsmen in the flight. Currently, he's deceiving batsmen off the pitch with his pace which would not work against quality players in the Test arena.

He's got a bit of a trigger movement in his right arm before entering the final part of his action now. I think it might encourage him to bowl short and quick and will diminish his leg breaks. Someone needs to fix it as soon as possible.

He should have been picked for Pakistan U-19 World Cup Squad.

From what I have observed recently, if any of our players, who are under 19, break into the international scene then they aren't picked for u19 anymore, even if they are viable. Amir and Umar Akmal come to mind. Plus, after having a sip of International Cricket, I don't think playing in lesser or less competitive form of cricket is going to be beneficial and it would be better to expose those with less experience.

You’re right.Shadab would’ve made our u-19 team stronger though no doubt about that.

He's supposed to be Shadab's replacement, so no, he hasn't played yet.

It's assumed he will join up with the team soon, now that Shadab is leaving to join the Pakistan squad.

He has already joined the team.
Yasir was sitting in the Heats dugout (I noticed him sitting there when I tried to catch up with the final overs of the thunder be Heats match)

Stupid that today was his last game. NZ series doesn't start till next Saturday (NZ time). Not really a long flight from Australia. Could have played at least 1-2 more games for the Heat.

Don’t agree with that, the country’s matches are more important, needs to meet the boys and management and make plans and strategies for the KIWI series, can’t just turn up a day before the match day. He is very good but still has a lot to learn and you don’t want him to take the national duties so easy.

Yes but I think Heat's next match is Sunday, he could have at least stayed for that. Can fly to NZ on the Monday and have a few days to train with the rest of the Pakistan team.

IF you had predicted it 20 years ago they would have thought you were mad.

A Brisbane cricket team would draw 35,000 to home games in a 20-over competition and their final play for the year 2017 would be a mid-tournament baton change from one ever-smiling Pakistani leg-spinner to another.

But that’s life in the exotic, ever expanding world of Big Bash cricket.

The Heat have said a hearty goodbye to brilliant young teenage leg-spinner Shadab Khan who took six wickets in three games and was very much a part of the Heat’s two wins.

He is off to New Zealand for a Pakistan limited overs tour while that nation’s gifted Test leg-spinner, Yasir Shah, takes his place for the Heat.

Shadab may yet return for the finals or maybe next season.

There used to be theory in cricket that leg-spinners were the most fragile of bowlers, full of insecurities, unable to bowl with a new or wet ball or on a non-crumbling wickets and often taking years to master their craft.

Then along comes teenager Shadab who made nonsense of all of these theories as he shone with a new ball and a wet one on brutally flat decks, and did it with a smile normally reserved for the likes of veterans Brad Hogg who have been through so much the game cannot destroy them.

Shadab, according to Dean Jones who has coached in the Pakistan T20 league, has the “head of a 30 year old’’ but he was given no saloon passage in cricket.

“I come from a family of eight children and my brothers only played tape ball cricket,’’ Shadab said.

“I have been helped a lot by (former Pakistan leg-spinner) Mushtaq Ahmed who I ring before every match I play and he gives me advice where to bowl.

“I used to bowl a wrong-un which did not spin but he helped me with one that does turn.’’

The only known time Shadab was overawed came when he stepped into a lift with his hero Steve Smith in Dubai and was unable to get any words out.

He has been raised in an era where Pakistan became, until recently, a wasteland for international cricket matches with teams refusing to tour there following an attack on a bus carrying the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore in 2009.

“It has been hard to not have international cricket at home but things are changing with a World XI playing in Lahore and Sri Lanka also touring. Things are changing. People are working hard.’’

Heat add Yasir for NYE blockbuster
Pakistani leg-spinner replaces compatriot Shadab Khan in Brisbane's squad for BBL trip to Adelaide

Brisbane Heat have swapped one Pakistani leg-spinner for another as they prepare for their blockbuster New Year's Eve clash with Adelaide Strikers tomorrow night at Adelaide Oval.

Teenage sensation Shadab Khan has completed his three-match stint with the franchise, and has been replaced by countryman and renowned Test performer Yasir Shah in the squad named for the fixture.

Shadab took six wickets at the impressive economy rate of 7.08 and now flies to New Zealand to join Pakistan's limited-overs touring squad.

Yasir however, is no certainty to play, with off-spinner Jason Floros – who, like Shadab, is a handy lower-order option with the bat – also drafted into the 13-man list at the expense of Marnus Labuschagne.

The 31-year-old has a glittering Test record, having collected 165 wickets in 28 matches, however he experienced a tough time of things last summer in Australia, taking eight wickets at 84 across the three-Test series.

The Heat have won two and lost one of their opening three matches, while the Strikers are unbeaten in two, with wins over Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers.

The New Year's Eve clash, which has fast become one of the highlights of the summer's cricket calendar, this year brings with it the extra drawcard of Heat superstar Chris Lynn.

Lynn returned to action on Wednesday night after a shoulder reconstruction, and promptly blasted a quick-fire 25 from nine deliveries in the Heat's thrilling final-over win against the Thunder.

"It would've been nice to have faced a few more balls, but it wasn't to be," he said. "I'm (confident) I can really build an innings when I go out there in Adelaide on New Year's Eve."

The Strikers are unchanged from the side that beat the Sixers at the SCG on Thursday, and boast a proud tradition in the fixture; since it began in BBL|03, they've managed four wins from four.

will be interesting to see how Baz uses him this time.Thought he did a brilliant job with him in PSL

Brisbane Heat: Brendon McCullum (c), Jimmy Peirson (wk), Chris Lynn, Joe Burns, Alex Ross, Ben Cutting, Cameron Gannon, Josh Lalor, Mark Steketee, Yasir Shah, Mitchell Swepson

Heat bowling first after losing toss

Outstanding start by Yasir, got his length perfect right from the start, glad to see him use an effective wrong'un too.

2-18 from 4 overs for Yasir Shah today. 2 big wickets: Travis Head and Colin Ingram.

Bowled better than Rashid Khan as well, great comeback on Australian soil considering what happened last time he bowled there :smith:warner

It's what happens when you have a good attacking captain like McCullum

Problem with Yasir is unlike the other two he will be going at economy of around 10 in the next game.

Hey, can you please make a new thread and just list what is going to happen in all future international matches, it will saves us a lot of time as people wont have to actually watch the matches . It would be great if you could also make a separate thread for future lottery numbers as well.

Thanks

Yasir Shah playing again tomorrow. He done good yesterday but hopefully this time his team actually win.

Game coming up soon, lets see how Yasir does

Yasirs second game in Big Bash - 4 overs, 16 runs, 1 wicket. A wicket and measly economy... superb!

Also should have got Quiney lbw but for a rubbish umpiring decision and he played a part in the run out of Stoinis. Bowled really well, didn't give anything away. McCullum getting the best out of him it seems.

Another good performance by Yas boy.Very happy to see him performing good

Cannot believe how well YShah doing!? And here I was thinking he will be destroyed! Is it him or is it the captaincy of Baz?

He was under his captaincy in PSL too but wasn't that impressive, he's worked hard and improved him himself, good on him

Yasir has always been pretty good in T20s. It's in ODIs where he really struggles.

Don't u remember his spell of 4 overs 7 runs and 4 wickets against Zalmi in last PSL?

1-27 for him today from his 4 overs including the wicket of Adam Voges. He's proving us all wrong, Brisbane Heat should win this match easily

Yasir will be playing soon

Jan 10, 2018 - 24th Match at Brisbane Cricket Ground, Woolloongabba, Brisbane (night)

Match scheduled to begin (18:40 local | 08:40 GMT | 11:40 +03)

Yasir Shah playing today - his team batting atm

his team thrahed today

Brisbane Heat 73 (16.4/20 ov)
Sydney Sixers 74/1 (10/20 ov)
Sydney Sixers won by 9 wickets (with 60 balls remaining)

Shah 37 runs for 1 wickets (only wicket taker)

Agreed

He has not been a game changer and not had the sort of impact you would want from an overseas signing

What game can he change if your side scores 73?

What game can he change if your side scores 73?

obv speaking generally

he has been good and not been a disaster at any point but while 1/27 is good it wont win you games
