What's new

Shahid Afridi - Ducks Watch

Shahid Afridi now has 29 ducks in ODIs, the most by any Pakistani.

Most ducks by a batsman in ODIs: Jayasuriya 34, Shahid Afridi 29, Wasim Akram 28, Jayawardene 26, Muralitharan/Vass 25.

He also has the highest number of ducks in T20Is (6) by a Pakistani.

As we all know.... "most" is a related to number of matches played :sachin .... he also has most MoM awards for Pakistan in ODIs and T20s.

Average of 30 in this series, boosted massively by the 88.

After today's dismissal, it still somehow shocks me how stupid afridi is? Last ball before the power play FFS. Only way he can redeem himself is by bowling us to victory today.

He's a perfect number 8 . . That's why we need hammad azam in the team to bat at 7 and share his overs with hafeez or afridi!

Don't rely on past laurels.....in that way Nottingham Forest are a better team than Chelsea because they have won 2 European Cups............:P

Just in case you did not know.... most ducks also include his "past failures"! Don't they?

He goes totally missing for 9 games then performs every 10th and collects a mom award, this doesnt make him great

Id rather have some consistent performances then someone who performs once in a blue moon and goes away with a mom award

You need to know how to bowl at number 8, looking at his recent bowling performance he would make a very mediocre front line bowler.

Performing every 10th match a is still better than not performing for 3.5 years 60+ international innings... if you know what I mean! :Malik

You mean consistent performers like Malik, Younis Khan, Farhat, Hafeez????

Just because others shouldnt be playing doesnt mean it exempts sir afridis inept performances too Thats a seriously poor way of thinking

So instead of defending your favorite player by arguing that no these are the instances where he has contributed to team recently and based on these he deserves to be in the team your line of argument is that since we have one loser in the team there is no harm in carrying another one. Brilliant logic mate, bravo.

Afridi is one of the reasons I follow Pak cricket. Shoaib Akhtar was another one who excited me.

Why you guys are so jumpy ...just because I replied to "most ducks" post with the "most MoM"post.

Before you jump a little more... read this....

Most isn't always related to the number of matches played.

We can adjust the numbers as we want to in this instance :) but the numbers are there for all to see.

from cricinfo commentary:

Nisar Ahmed: "@ Farid, I can't understand people still have piece of advice for a man who has played more than 350 ODIs and has more than 7000 runs but still can not control himself. Bottom-line: He will never change."

Would you be happy with him playing for team india?

Great question. As an Indian Afridi fan, it got me thinking and you know you're right. It's easier to be a sustained fan of someone like Afridi for years if he plays for another team.

Shahid Afridi : Most Ducks in T20Is & ODIs for Pakistan

The longer Afridi continues to play for Pakistan, the ducks will no doubt increase.

Because maybe your logic of defending shahid was absurd?
OK for third time..... I replied to "most ducks" post with the "most MoM"post.

The emphasis was that..... the more you play, more ducks you'll get!

If I told you Sachin has the most ODI ducks for India...... what would that mean...if anything??

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en...size=200;team=6;template=results;type=batting

Before calling somebody's logic absurd.... try to comprehend what is being said....without acting like a cat of a hot tin roof!

you defend his failures by posting unrelated stats and
Most Ducks .... related stats.
Most MoM ....unrelated stats.

..and you said my logic was absurd?

then further exempt him by saying there are other worse failures than him

.....and is it not a fact?? But then again... facts are hard to digest by a lot of people.

That innings was breath taking but why single him out only when he fails, what about the likes of YK who has been terrible in ODI Cricket forever.

I would drop him too, YK still nearly doubles his batting average.

That's how bad afridi's batting has been forever.

Would you be happy with him playing for team india?

Hell no! The only reason I find him entertaining is simply because his brain farts/irresponsible batting does no harm to my team. No fan would want an irresponsible player like Afridi in their team.

He has 4 more cricket years left in him, I am confident he can score 5 more ducks in that period :)

Agree..... but in "most" :) cases it is!

We can adjust the numbers as we want to in this instance :) but the numbers are there for all to see.

By "adjusting the numbers", if you mean innings-per-Duck to even things out, then let's see....

Salman Butt is the Duck-King!!! Hafeez and Younis have worse out-duck ratio.

Yes i agree when you put it like that that the more games you play the more chances you have of making ducks HOWEVER

You are comparing apples with oranges, tenda has batted in most of the games hes played at top so bats in most games against new ball with the field in hence theres MORE chances of him getting out early for a duck

afridi for a lot of his career has batted in mid order against old ball with the field out and plenty of chances of easy singles, a lot of the times he doesnt even bat cause he bats so low down

In the position he bats in the order, when you have the record for most ducks it speaks volumes

Hope that makes sense

When when you look at "most ducks" list and compare batsmen on the list.... would than comparing apples to apples?? Let me the state the same sentence in the your words....

When you say Afridi has most ducks (more than any other Pakistani) .... are you comparing him with just the "batsmen who batted in the lower order against old ball field out and plenty of chances of easy singles"?? If not ... then YOU ALSO are comparing "apples to oranges"!

Hope that makes sense

Aren't most of his MoMs in the last 5 years against minnows or Sri Lanka?

We can go round in circles all day long, whichever you look at it Having the most ducks record isnt a good thing whether hes played lots of games or not

Duck #30 for Mr. Afridi.

Sanath Jayasuriya has the record with 34 so appears that the record is safe!

Afridi completes a century of ducks

Shahid Afridi’s aggressive batting can bring disaster for any side in world cricket but his hit and miss style often sees him get out cheaply. This style also led to him completing a century of ducks today during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match between Dhaka Platoon and Rajshahi Royals.

Afridi was removed first ball by Ravi Bopara as the all-rounder completed his hundredth duck in competitive cricket. In international cricket, Afridi has scored 44 ducks with 30 of those ducks coming in ODIs. In the ODI format, only Sanath Jayasuriya has gotten out for more ducks with 34 beside his name.

In his career, he has fallen for a duck six times in Tests. In T20s, that number stands at eight. The rest of the 56 zeroes came in domestic first-class, List A and T20 cricket. The BPL return did not start on a positive note for the former Pakistan all-rounder, but if anything is to be expected from him, it is the unexpected. In last edition’s BPL, his side Comilla Victorians clinched the title and there is more to come from him with his side Dhaka Platoon one of the tournament favourites.

I was truly surprised to see that Afridi has played 86 non-international first class matches. Whatever one may say, until 2010 he truly was a committed cricketer. He was famous enough to have stopped playing any first class matches after 99. He wasn’t really playing many tests after that in any case.

100 ducks. Takes a special talent to achieve that :)

Many a batsman before and after Afridi will get out for ducks - but one thing for sure, if you’ve paid money to go and watch a game of cricket and Afridi gets out for a duck — that’s the worst feeling and more disappointing for fans than the same happening to any other batsman in history, I have experienced it.

Indeed Majid.

I think we've seen matches where many a fan has walked out of the ground after Afridi was out, irrespective of the match situation. One thing is for sure, Lala's fans were one of a kind, much like Lala himself.

This reminds me of a scene from the legendary Indian film Dilwale Dunahiya Le Jayenge.

Shah Rukh Khan fails in college at London but his father Anupam Kher celebrates it with a Champagne saying that while his elders all failed in India, he did it London and made the entire Khandaan very very proud :afridi
