Shahnawaz Dahani and Wasim Jr are extremely undercooked for white ball cricket

One positive from this series is that Pakistan now know the pecking order of white ball pacers in the country.

1- Shaheen Afridi
2-Haris Rauf
3- Naseem Shah
4- Muhammad hasnain

These are clearly the best white ball pacers atm for Pakistan.

Wasim is a garbage bowler. Wasn’t he an allrounder? Lol. Can’t even do one skill properly. He’s not faster than the others, does not bring anything new to the table.

I’d rather invest in Aamer Jamal than Wasim. He showed more promise and showed he had the mettle for high pressure which Wasim the supposed AR lacks.

I’m pleased with Hasnain personally. He’s going through the same phase as Haris earlier, where you have the skills but lack experience and thought- will improve.

Dahani's issue has something to do with his fitness or rhythm.

In psl 2021 he was around 5k faster, much greater zip off surface and much much more frequently nailing his yorkers.

He has lost his intensity in 2022 (including psl 2022) but I'm sure he will regain it. His talent is still there.

I hope Saj asks Dahani about this if possible.

Wasim jnr never had a case to be included in t20s imo.

There's too much chest thumping in Pakistan about our pace bowling reserves. We basically have our three frontliners (Shaheen, Rauf and Naseem); Hasnain in the middle tier; then there's Wasim jr, Dhani and the rest.

We know Hasnain can bowl well upfront but loses his head at the death.

Mohammad Wasim jr like many slingy pacers can either be unplayable or go for plenty. Besides for an AR, I cannot recall any significant batting contributions him. He cannot take the place of a specialist pacer.

Dhani needs to learn while hitting a good length is a virtue in red ball cricket, T20 cricket sometimes requires 5-6 different deliveries an over so must develop his variations. He was amongst the leading wicket-takers in two successive PSLs so cannot discard him yet.

Aamer Jamal deserved another go tonight after his death overs exploits the other game.

Both Waseem and Dahani need atleast 2 seasons in domestic cricket before they should get anywhere near the international team in any format.
I agree with OP, the pecking order is quite clear. Shaheen, Naseem and Haris with Hasnain as backup. There is no one else around that is worth considering.

Shahid Afridi:

"Dahani is really a good prospect and he needs regular chances. Bad days come in players' career but benching him won't work"

"Dahani is energetic and pulls the crowd. He needs to be backed by the team management. If they give Dahani more chances, he will get stronger"

That's how it is all the time. Musa, Ilyas, Naseem, Shaheen et al were all thrown into international cricket some years back on the basis of raw talent. Some of them made it, rest dropped out.

It's Pakistan's way of doing things.

Same when Sami, Gul burst onto international scene after one of the early century world cup debacles.

I don’t really understand Wasim Jr’s role. He is categorized as an all rounder but is used as a fifth bowler. If we are to use him as a fifth bowler than I am sure there are better options in domestic cricket.

Same with Iftikhar and Khushdil, the selectors and management keep saying that these are ‘impact’ players that provide flexibility. Yet I never see this impact or the flexibility.

Hasnain isn't far behind Naseem or can say Naseem isn't far ahead of Hasnain.
In white ball formats they are in the same bracket.
Shaheen and Rauf are elites.

Yeah I agree on this, Wasim and Dahani aren't up there yet. Those four, Shaheen, Naseem, Rauf and Hasnain are surely the best of the lot.

Ihsanullah showed more in the few minutes i saw, than Wasim has done in the last 2 years. Dahani lines are too FC and need to be attacking the right handers off stump.

Lol People think they know who is better. One game Hasnain had a bad game and everyone was on him. People were calling for Dahani in the 15 men WC squad.

Now they want Dahani and Wasim Jr gone. Had Naseem played some matches in this series and went for runs, people would've been onto him as well.

Opinions change after every game.

Don’t have anything against Wasim Jr but his role is unclear. He is in the squad as an all rounder but the team is using him purely as a bowler, in which case there are better options available for Pakistan.

I'm glad people are coming to a consensus that Hasnain is ahead of Dahani and Wasim Jr. Back when the squad was selected, people were complaining about Hasnain being selected over Dahani and some were even saying that Wasim is better than both. Pace and aggression is real and Hasnain can provide both of those, making him more lethal and effective overall.

Mir Hamza, Aamer Jamal and Arshad Iqbal are three I thought would be prominet used. Mohammad Umar, Mohammad Ilyas, Mohammad Imran Randhawa and Aamir Yamin are either not quick enough or just not consistently playing enough. There are a few who are not good enough in someone like Salman Irshad & Usman Khan Shinwari and genuinely just a lack of options.

Mohammad Imran, Ihsanullah for KPK are still raw like Wasim Jnr and Dhani potentially Naseem Shah and Mohammad Hasnain as well due to there inconsistency. Ahmed Bashir & Sameen Gul are two pacers clearly better utilised for red ball cricket.

And that's about it, you either then looking at Wahab Riaz (who is injury prone now), Mohammad Amir (who is retired), Junaid Khan (has lost pace due to injuries), Ehsan Adil (who last played cricket in 2021) and finally Rahat Ali or Mohammad Irfan or Sohail Khan who are all old and injury prone.

Ahmed Bashir is meh.

I'd take 33 year old Muhammad Ali over him.

There's Irfanullah, Khurram and Kashif Ali who you missed.

Irfanullah is a red ball bowler, whereas Khurram Shehzad isn't a bad option either but his lack of pace in Australian wouldn't be great. Kashif Ali is still raw.

Oh I thought you were discussing red ball options.
