Former Pakistan captain Imran Khan is expected to be sworn in as the Prime Minister of the nation after his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won 116 seats in the recently concluded general elections. Ahead of his sworn-in ceremony, former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar has said that he is confident of Imran's leadership abilities and believes the country will become one of the best in Asia under him.

Former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar has always been vocal of his unfulfilled desire to have played under the talismanic leadership of Imran Khan. The former Pakistan cricket team captain is all set to become the Prime Minister of the country after swooping in the recently concluded general elections. His party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) emerged as the most successful party in the elections.

Khan, who led Pakistan to World Cup triumph in 1992, is expected to be sworn in as the Prime Minister before August 14. Ahead of his sworn in ceremony, Akhtar has remarked that Pakistan as a country would flourish under Khan's leadership and will become one of the best nations in the Asian continent.

“I believe that he (Imran Khan) can help Pakistan become Asian Tiger but the whole nation must stand by his side if we are to succeed,” said Akhtar while talking to media after meeting Khan. Akhtar who played 163 ODIs and 46 Tests for Pakistan reckoned that the former captain will deliver as per the expectations of the nation.

“I’m confident that Imran bhai will deliver in accordance with the expectations of the people of Pakistan," he said. Khan, one of the finest all-rounders to have played the game came into Politics in as early as 1996 but had to wait for over two decades to rise to the summit.

He founded his party PTI in 1996 and contested first ever general elections in 1996. In 2013 his party left behind Bilawal Bhutto Zardari-led Pakistan People's Party (PPP) to become the second largest party in the country. This time around PTI won 116 seats and will form the next government in Pakistan.

On the cricket pitch, Khan played 88 Test matches and 175 ODIs for Pakistan. He scored 3807 and 3709 runs respectively in the two formats. He also scalped 362 wickets in Tests and 182 in ODIs. Pakistan won their only World Cup under his magnificent captaincy.

By 2021 Pak will be a very different country for the better. I will remind everyone of this then, insha Allah. 2018 is just the beginning, insha Allah. I see Pak being a major world player by 2023.

I am hopeful PTI will change the direction of the country towards the right direction.

But those that expect Imran to wave a magic wand and undo 2 decades of what corruption (PMLN and PPP) and terrorism did to the country are going to be very disappointed.

3 years is not a realistic time frame for Imran to make Pakistan into a major world player.

3 years is a long time for sure. I did not say Pak will become a super power rather a country that is greatly respected. I expect us to be in a very good economical position by then compared to where we are at the moment. It will or should not take two decades to rectify problems created by previous governments.

Pakistan will not be greatly respected in 3 years.

2 decades of American and Indian propaganda against Pakistan is not going to be undone in 3 years. Pakistan will continue to be under pressure in the international community.

2 decades of PPP and PMLN corruption which has brought the Pakistani economy to its knees with over $ 90 billion dollars in debt will not be fixed in 3 years.

Again, as long as the direction is in the right direction that should be good enough.

I just dont expect magic as Imran is not Harry Potter.

No one is saying that in three years Pakistan will be major world player, but three years is sufficient time to get the wheels of the economy turning and country headed in the right direction. Keep in mind with a supremely anti-corruption government in Pakistan the Chinese might want to further increase the layout of CPEC. 60-100 billion coming into any country specially one the size of Pakistan is serious chump of change and can result in immediate results.

That is literally what that poster said to whom I was replying to.

Its just not realistic.

But yes I agree getting the country heading in the right direction is possible in that time frame. This is the standard PTI's governance should be based on.

Yes anti Pak forces can greatly be reduced in 3 years. We are talking of 3 years not 3 days. What is all this negativity here with you guys? International community can be dealt with as well if the leadership has guts and courage. You seem to be wanting forever to see improvement in Pak take place then keep waiting until your hair is all white.

Not saying we will be New York City or debt free in 3 years yet it can be greatly reduced if we get good economists on board. Having a strong foreign minister is equally important as well, something we have never had for ages. If the direction is right then there should be many improvements during this period where we can tell the international community to mind it's own business. No one is claiming IK to be a magician, what I am suggesting does not require miracles.

Good luck to Pakistan. As someone rightly mentioned above, decades of global propaganda and conspiracy against Pakistan will take a few years to be undone, but if one man can do it, it is Imran Khan.

A "cornered" Asian tiger, perhaps?

Should meet the foreign delegations wearing this:

Statements like this and expectations like this terrify the hell out of me. Ik is inheriting the worst possible economic crisis in our nations history and there is no quick fix solution. The people of Pakistan need to be patient and need to cooperate with him

These players can all jump on the bandwagon now after the election, but you have to applaud Wasim and Waqar for standing fully behind Imran Khan and showing their loyalty, they did not play 'safe' like or or two other former players and then come out congratulating after the election as if to say we always backed you.

People change directions, leaders guide - no matter how much propaganda, you cant clap with 1 hand so stop blaming others in entirety. Instead, be independent and stick with friendlier countries and seek their help to elevate yours
I saw Modi as new saviour for India and how he will do great things, I saw ppl there - they hate him actually now..only the stupid nationalist will boast but ordinary citizens - muslims and hindu alike are pretty much on the same boat.
I am happy about Immy but so fed up with promises, let it come true first
