But they also have 6 time bigger population.
India's population is ~ 6 times that of Pakistan.
India tests 1.3 million a day compared to 45-50 thousand a day in Pakistan. That's ~25-30 times.
Do the math.

Out of curiosity - How do you guys know that vast numbers of players haven’t been vaccinated on their own? I doubt there’s a log of who is and who isn’t.
Secondly - even if vaccinated, doesn’t that still mean you can still contract covid and give positive test results. Only the symptoms aren’t as bad. Is my understanding wrong?
The Delhi Capitals franchise suffered a big blow as their pace ace Anrich Nortje has reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The South African who figured in the first two One-day Internationals against Pakistan recently, was in quarantine after reaching India.
"He came in with a negative report, but has unfortunately tested positive now while undergoing quarantine,"

So how is that possible?
With India now placed on the UK's red list, surely a few of the England contingent would be having some doubts about continuing to play in the IPL?
Naive question, I know, money is a great equalizer for risk.
There's no way imaginable that an organisation like the BCCI will allow players to leave without implying it will affect their future earnings. You can rest assured these messages have been sent to all foreign players in the IPL - leave us and you will be punished for it.

And I would expect nothing less from an authoritarian administration that prides itself on bullying and blackmail.

Guess you guys are happy pakistanis are not part of the Ipl.
Like it or not, the bubble is working for IPL.

Not sure why this thread gets bumped everytime. As I said before, even if there is a world war 3 starts tomorrow, IPL will go ahead as planned. No amount of mental gymnastic can stop it bcoz its just far too important an event to cancel. If this was an international series, it would have been cancelled long ago and we wont even be talking about it. We may see the T20 WC getting cancelled later this year if the pandemic situation dont increase. But IPL cant & wont be cancelled. Its happening now as per schedule and it will happen again in Apr 2022 as per schedule. Adding any achronym or adjective like Circus, Tamasha league etc are good coping mechanisms but wont change the reality.
I smell arrogance, power of money and ego in this post. People are dying left, right, center and outside of pathetic hospitals of India but IPL will go ahead as planned. On top of that someone who lives in UK is going to tell us about the reality of India now. Waah bhaijaan waah.![]()
No one has died due to IPL and neither hospitals are full due to it. IPL has taken all precautionary measures to run the tournament successfully. Apart from some odd cases, no player has tested positive. You are just upset that IPL manage to organize the tournament hassle free again which other leagues couldnt.
Common people of India can use the same excuse and ask government to remove lockdown/curfew. The point is to not spread the virus and stay at home. How does it make sense to you that most of the people are sitting at home whereas players are busy showing their skills in a circus. Hypocrisy at its best.![]()
Or, you know they are so professional and through, players trust them unlike the unprofessional PCB who makes exceptions to every rule
But of fantasy about bullying instead of professionlism should help you sleep better at night
After all, when one gets used to making exceptions and bending rules and seeing unprofessional behavior, the thought of something being professionala and competent wouldn't even enter one's mind
It seems ministers are also filling their pockets and taking money to let this circus go on and on during these times.![]()
BCCI will never allow the loss of face of cancelling the IPL after seeing what happened in Pakistan. They have the financial clout to twist players arms. Yes English and Australian players could leave for their own safety, but the rewards are just too great so they will play along. They don't want to risk being cut off from the gravy train next time round.
Nothing to do with professionalism or lack thereof, the BCCI has hardly covered itself in glory since it became the most powerful board in the world. The formation of the big 3 was predicated on backroom deals and blackmailing boards that didn't acquiesce. Anyone denying this is being deliberately obtuse. The ICC has never been as emasculated and irrelevant as it is now, and the game of cricket outside the big 3 countries remains on a precipice.
For what it's worth, the way the BCCI acts is optimal in terms of retaining the present power structure in the game. It is extremely short-sighted but in the long-term the people that run the game and make money off it currently won't care if the sport dies.
People are allowed to criticize the BCCI and the way it acts on this forum, just as everyone can justifiably call the PCB all the names under the sun for their incompetence.
BCCI is greedy and their ego will get hurt if it doesn't happen.
Money > Life in a country like India anyway.![]()

I just hope pcb does not invite those hypocritical white players back to the psl if psl ever comes back again
Here we have a deadly wave in india , a mutant variant that can infect and kill vaccinated patients, bodies piling up and furnaces at crematorium melting from the heat .
And white sirs are still roaming around in the Corona plague capital of the world .
India is on red list so it will mean all uk players will have to qurantine in a hotel![]()

Wow, what an original flash of enlightenment and observation mate ...![]()
If you really care about not wealthy Indians then you should know that the IPL generates employment for many of them.
But can you accept the fact that they have done a better job with the bubble? That no infections have happened? at the end of the day, players are just concerned about that.
Most of the people are sitting at home during lockdown/curfew but these guys are allowed to work/entertain/play. Can I ask why? As I said above hypocrisy at its best. Different rules for different people.![]()
It's a miracle that amidst the death and destruction (2,94,000 cases yesterday alone), the IPL seems to be going on without a hitch and nobody among players, support staff or administration is testing positive.
Hope I'm not jinxing it!
I assume even if there are cases, they would be contact traced and players / people quarantined. IPL might be continuing.

Pretty shocking to continue in this deadly wave, they should called off IPL immediately for safety of people. Life is more important than cricket
Govt is allowing people to continue work if there is any way to keep working without spreading virus. That's why millions of people working from home since last year. That's why IPL is allowed to happen as scheduled because it's not spreading virus.
So not sure what you exactly expecting here. May be you expect WFH people also to stop working since other people can't work due to corona. By your logic not only IPL but all work should be stopped till corona stays.
The situation is very bad in India currently.
Considering that, BCCI deserves all the applause and appreciation for pulling off the tournament successfully.
BCCI has proved everyone that in such tough circumstances, if there is one cricket body that could have pulled off the tournament successfully, it is none other than them. Undoubtedly, the most smartest and powerful cricket body in the world.
So what you are saying is that the BCCI should be running the hospitals in India?
No the big wigs will not allow for it to be cancelled. The corrupt politicians and Bollywood star's have to big a share in it for it to be discontinued. In tough times Sport often gives people hope.
Is the IPL taking up hospital beds or oxygen, or impacting anyone in a negative way? Or should it be canceled just because you (and many others on this thread) are jealous?

Did you even read my post properly? You tell me which world are you living in? Not every work can be done from home.
The situation is quite dire in India right now. I wonder if it is wise to carry on with IPL. Ofcourse, BCCI has done a great job so far in keeping the bubble intact, but I think it's a ticking bomb, I won't be surprised if Covid breaches the bubble any moment.
I read what you said but don't think you've read properly what I posted above. You asked why these players are allowed to play/entertain when others are sitting at home. The answer is simple, they are allowed because they are playing in a controlled environment and not spreading virus. Just like WFH people.
WFH is just used here as an example that work can be allowed if it doesn't spread the virus.
You'll see it if you remove IPL hatred glasses from your eyes.
BCCI is a governing body for cricket in India.
It is not a governing body in medical field. Their roles and responsibilities are different.
If you are not aware of the roles and responsibility of a cricket administrative body, you can probably do a google search. But running the hospitals or providing ICU beds to common people does not fall under the functions of a cricket administrative body.
Right so then surely it should be postponed?
Your WFH example is pretty useless. If you are trying to compare an individual working alone from his home with a team of 20-30 people(including staff) playing a match then I can't help you much. Your comparison would have been valid if someone like Virat Kohli was batting and Bumrah was bowling from their own respective homes lol. You will see it if you remove your cheerleader printed glasses from your eyes.![]()
Why should it be postponed? Leagues in rest of the world continued through waves of Covid 19.
Very much expected response. Expected that you are focused more on whether the example is proper fit or the actual point that IPL21 is allowed only because it's played in controlled environment and not spreading the virus.
And yes, that cheer leader glasses is lame attempt because unlike you who has blind hatred for IPL, I am not someone who blindly support IPL.
I hate it when IPL cannibalise international cricket, hate it when player like Bumrah finds excuse for national games but ready for all 14 + knockouts in IPL etc. etc.
But I've accepted the fact that it's not going anywhere. It's happening in this tough time and I am interested only to see whether they can pull this off or not. If BCCI successfully organize this season, it deserves appreciation, if it gets postponed like PSL, I won't blame them either but will appreciate the effort.
Anyway, please continue your hatred and the argument that it should be cancelled since how come they work when others are not working. No one could help you so far and I doubt if anyone can in future.
Well I'm going by the news I'm seeing here in the UK.
What's occurring in India doesn't look like what's happening in Europe.
Whist football has carried on through the second wave there hasn't been a shortage of ventilators and frankly the scenes we're seeing is quiet disturbing.

Well IPL doesn't use ventilators.
Everyone saw the scenes in europe esp spain and Italy.
India just has more total number of cases due to the population. The cases per million of population is still less than US and many other countries of the world.
The panic is because the wave has caught people off guard and there have been far more disturbing scenes that came out of Europe last year and Italy.
Please - dont come up with such comparisons based upon statistics - these are human lives of your compatriots we are talking about.
I am just wondering that when you have so much misery around you, as an Indian player (of course overseas guys are there for the money), dont feel odd to be enjoying yourself and trying to create the same glamour that a normal IPL season would hold?
Think this is the point most people are trying to make.
The bubble has thankfully proven to be airtight and that is great credit to BCCI.
Not sure why people are defending India cases by saying the record numbers are due to the population size.
Either way, the hospitals are overwhelmed with Oxygen and Ventilators are in shortages. People are dying due to the infrastructure not being suitable for the population size.
I don’t see IPL being cancelled even with the bubble being breached. There is too much money at stake.
Should people stop living their lives? People are getting married, having kids and everything else.
The only reason to stop IPL would be a bio bubble breach.
Exactly. He hasn't even provided a source yet.
I think the IPL is needed to bring a smile on people's faces and keep them entertained during these tough times. Viewership has increased as people are stuck at home with no other entertainment like movie theaters or malls.I am just wondering that when you have so much misery around you, as an Indian player (of course overseas guys are there for the money), dont feel odd to be enjoying yourself and trying to create the same glamour that a normal IPL season would hold?
