Should Pakistan boycott the ICC T20 World Cup if Australia abandon the tour of Pakistan?

Short term pain for long term gain is a thing. There are countless instances where countries or companies have lost money in the short term for a better long term. Cricket is already a very small sport at the global scale. The big 3 situation has made is much worse. Pakistan not playing NZ and Australia will compound the situation. Think of what ICC and cricket have to lose as well, not just what Pakistan has to lose.

What long term gain? There's no telling anyone will care about a ruse like this. Its more likely that they will be angry at Pakistan for pulling out of a global tournament with multiple stakeholders because of Pakistan's beef with one board. Its an illogical idea with no tangible goals to achieve. Its akin to something a child would do to get the attention of his or her parents.

I’m reading reports of Australians finding the excuse they need to abandon the tour of Pakistan in March, be it the bomb blast in Anarkali or the Omicron variant.

I think Pakistan should simply boycott the T20 World Cup later in October if we are taken for granted again. Enough is enough now. There is a huge cash cow/money maker for CA and ICC on the 23rd of October where they have placed India/Pakistan in a 100k capacity stadium. The revenue generated in this match will be gigantic and they are simply using the PCB brand in order to make this possible for them.

IMO, it CA want the cash, they need to make sure that they do not backstab us like NZCB or ECB.

The next T20 WC is being held in Australia. So yeah, if God forbids, there are public bomb blasts in the thickly populated Aussie cities a month or so before our games then we have the face to boycott the tournament.

But for now, we need to get off of our high horse of self righteousness - which actually is a classical example of “Pichwaaray mein dum nahi, hum kisi sey kum nahi”

This obsession of Aussies visit to Pak leading to boycott ICC is more of an idiotic rather than knee jerk, reaction to boycott ICC, is laughable.

Pakistan hasn’t been as safe for foreign teams as many other countries are.

The amount of presidential level security we are forced to provide should give you an indication.

Unfortunately, our country is not safe for high level and leading foreign teams.

We need to fix our house first before boycotting ICC.

You’ve got to put curfew in place, keep the visiting teams locked up in their hotels, have thousands of commandos put in place with loaded guns, and military armory in place - what the is that you don’t get about it?

Way too much exxageration again. You are more likely to get hit by lightning than being caught up in one of these blasts. Or heck, die after taking a vaccine (and I am extremely pro-vax). Not sure if you know this but it's not 2009 anymore, terrorism is down over 90% from that time.

The security provided is more for peace of mind of these teams.

Players are fine with being in bio bubbles for COVID-19 and staying locked up, surely they can do the same to be given security.

OK, two things here, if you don't believe in security measure that we provide (no matter what they are), take them away and then try to bring any team under the premise of "Chances of lighting hitting you, are higher then getting caught in a bomb blast".

I mean, how stupid is this thought to convince any team to visit Pakistan?

Second, we don't stand a chance to twist the arm of ICC or any other board by "boycotting" the ICC event.

We have been a weak, corrupt and very incompetent cricket board in the last few years. Who is going to bow down to you? Not even Afghanistan.

Is this recent blast even surprising?

I already had doubts of such an event happening a few weeks ago.

Take a look at post # 278 here

I think to start off with, we need to be realistic and acknowledge that the our country is NOT as safe for top leading teams, as many other countries are. IT'S A FREAKING FACT.

Top cricket teams visiting Pakistan are mostly likely to be SPECICALLY TARGETTED.
Anyone who doesn't believe in this, needs to crawl back under the rock.

Our best chance from here, is to keep playing international cricket at neutral venues and/or keep visiting other countries while we work towards stabilizing our internal security.

Our focus should be to consistently produce world class megastars - and playing in the backyard of other teams, should help us build battle hardened warriors.

If you can build a super strong team with super stars, the value and worth and incentives of other teams inviting you will increase.

But with this absolute broken and super corrupt and third class domestic cricket standard, our crying a river of Australia not visiting is ironic.
Our focus is totally at the wrong place.

FIX YOUR DOMESTIC CRICKET, REMOVE CORRUPTION AND RAISE IT'S STANDARDS BY SCHEDULING MORE AND MORE A TEAM INTERNATIONAL TOURS. This should be # 1 priority.
Building a great team should be our goal.

Wasting our time and energies to invite top level teams to Pakistan is a useless and very delicate and super risky endeavor.

A small blip and you will be pushed back 10 steps in an effort to take on step forward. There is no point in taking such a high risk.
Shift your focus to where it's needed.

Pakistan should not boycott the T20 World Cup in Australia however they should not tour Australia until Australia completes its commitment and tours Pakistan. If that means 10 years then so be it. The same policy should be in place for the other teams too (New Zealand and England)

So Pakistan is safe for PSL and lower teams like SA/SL but then magically becomes unsafe for big teams? That's not how it works, security is same for all people. Any international team or PSL is a so called "big target".

Tickets for this all are sold out I am hearing from multiple friends in Melbourne.
Average Ticket price is between 30 AUD to 50 AUD and 100,000K Capacity. Looks like Melbourne local hospitality will have a major windfall after so much struggle for last 2 years. I have few desi friends from SubContinent who are restaurant owners in the city, who have struggled a lot due to COVID and they are already making plans to prepare for this event.
2015 in Adelaide WC Match, the food/beer ran out post 11 PM. Fans drove like 150KM outside Adelaide to get some food.

If Pakistan pull out, It will be major statement. But I do not think Ramiz Raja has the courage to do it even if Australia pull out of Pakistan tour.

people like me and you understand this clear prejudice...What about West Indies that come all the time?

Aus/Eng/NZ do not, because they think that they're better than the rest of us. If India was not a big market for cricket, trust me, they would find excuses to go there also. Thats how the world works.

I hope Ramiz Raja plays this in a very diplomatic manner.

People are forgetting that TWO teams are required for a cricket match.

It is now evident that those two teams are India and Pakistan that carry the tournament.

One with a population of 1B +, the other one with 200M +

Bdesh is 150M + also, but they are pathetic and their team is not taken seriously

What more important is that cricket is the primary sport here.

Australia is 25M, NZ is 5M, England is 80 M - and NONE of these countries has cricket as their primary sport

We may be ranked 6th or 7th or even 47th, but the issue is not ranking (although Pakistan is on a definite upswing). The issue is marketability and brand that Pakistan cricket has.

Everyone knows this. But no one advertises this.

Now PCB is advertising it and taking great steps to building a brand.

Australia knows this also. ICC knows this also. India knows this also, but refuses to accept that the biggest market outside of IPL is playing against Pakistan. They do this because they think by not playing us, it will harm us - and all their efforts have failed. We have been down and dusted, exiled but performed in two key events:

1) CT 2017 - victory at the lowest point of Pakistan cricket - ranked 8th vs ranked 1 or 2 team

2) 2021 WT T20. HUGE margin of victory in a place where IPL was held and India was expected to walk over a team that was deprived last minute for real practice. Pakistan defeated both IPL and BCCI and now the ball is on their court.

Abu Dhabi was targeted by ballistic missiles.
would the Aussies,(or anyone) really feel comfortable in the UAE now?
dont see anyone asking for the tour to be moved there any time soon.

Pakistan lose 20mn plus that they get for participation.

Their PSL tv rights deal isn't that big and out of that franchisee take 90 per cent.

Their much hyped 200mn usd revenue sharing deal with PTV is in tatters

As Ramiz said, PCB is dependent on ICC money to survive.

And lets be honest, Ramiz himself said that 90 per cent of ICC revenues come from India..Then we have Australia England and the rest. So how much does pakistan contribute?

You think any of the India matches will not be sold out?

Lol, not this ‘it’s just another match for India’ narrative.

Another myth debunked at 152-0. It was like when Goldberg speared the life out of Lesnar at SummerSlam for the first time, and Lesnar could not recover at all after that. One amazing story that.

India lost 1 ICC WC match to pakistan in 3 decades. Whats that got to do with PCB's financial condition?

Every match that India plays in the ICC T20 WC will be sold out. The opposition can be anyone.

In every ranking pakistan is beneath India, thats the story.

While you can keep living in WWE kayfabes, because in only such a universe will pakistan team be better than India.

If India keeps playing the way they are right now, those sold out games will no longer be sold out in the future and Pakistan will once again become the better team like it was during 2000’s.

Keep playing like what?

Winning series in Australia? Leading in England? Beating the WTC champions convincingly?

Yes they played poorly in SA after the 1st test and the team selection was atrocious, but thats a one off.

When was the last time pakistan won a series in SENA?

Pakistan hardly plays teams In SENA conditions whilst India are regularly touring

Well they can always buy out the opposition.

We can see how caring our Afghan brothers were in the WC game against India.
