The upcoming Champions One-Day Cup 2024 has seen several prominent Pakistani cricketers opt out, raising questions about their future involvement with the national team. Mohammad Amir, Imad Wasim, and Azam Khan are among those absent, in contrast to Fakhar Zaman, who views the tournament as crucial for his international career.

Their decision to skip the Champions Cup may impact their standing with selectors and chances of future selection. Centrally contracted players like Mohammad Nawaz (personal reasons), Arshad Iqbal, Hasan Ali, Ihsanullah, and Mohammad Wasim Jnr (undergoing rehabilitation) are also missing. Additionally, players like Ahmed Shehzad, Haris Sohail, Mohammad Abbas (County cricket in the UK), and Umar Akmal have made themselves unavailable.

Notably, Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir are currently playing in the CPL, while Fakhar Zaman is expected to return on September 10. Meanwhile, players undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy include Ahsan Ali, Athar Mahmood, Rizwan Hussain, and Zeeshan Zamir.

Nine domestic contracted players failed their fitness tests and were excluded from the squads: Ali Shafique, Ali Zaryab, Arif Yaqoob, Danish Aziz, Mohammad Rameez Jnr, Saad Baig, Rameez Aziz, Sharjeel Khan, and Shawaiz Irfan. However, four cricketers have returned to competitive cricket after passing fitness tests and completing rehabilitation: Hunain Shah, Sameen Gul, Sufiyan Moqim, and Shahnawaz Dahani.

Let's Discuss

Made themselves unavailable:
Azam Khan, Mohammad Amir, Imad Wasim (CPL)
Mohammad Abbas (County)
Ahmed Shehzad, Haris Sohail, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Ilyas, Umar Akmal (personal reasons)

Undergoing rehab at NCA:
Arshad Iqbal, Hassan Ali, Ihsanullah, Mohammad Wasim jr, Ahsan Ali, Athar Mahmood, Rizwan Hussain, Zeeshan Zameer

Failed fitness tests:
Ali Shafique, Ali Zaryab, Arif Yaqoob, Danish Aziz, Mohammad Rameez jr, Saad Baig, Rameez Aziz, Sharjeel Khan, Shawaiz Irfan

How th did Saad Baig not past the fitness Test?

What’s Mohammad Nawaz’s reason for being unavailable?

Usman Salahuddin at the age of 33 with a list A strike rate of 75…

What purpose does this guy’s selection serve?

Champions Cup is a 50 overs format and the ones who have made themselves unavailable are either finished or not even close to being in contention for ODIs.

Your u19 captain who lead his side to the SF isn’t fit enough? Makes zero sense when you have guys who can’t catch or field at international level filling in sides!

It's hilarious to expect Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim to play in Pakistan's domestic cricket, other than the PSL. They've lost interest in Pakistan cricket.

They are mercenaries. Just let that be. I don’t blame them, look at how Misbah and Waqar have manipulated this selection process!

Misbah: Rizwan+Iftikhar (his SNGPL golden boys)
Saqlain: His son in law

These are CLEAR conflicts of interests!

The PCB is beyond repair now, evident from the squad selection and absence of a few prominent players. Nothing is coming out of this tournament either. Trust me, we are yet to see the lowest point of Pakistan cricket.

Then they shouldnt complain about not playing for Pakistan and keep on taking back retirements when they feel like.

They are superstars and should only be playing ICC tournaments. Domestic cricket is beneath them.

Your country should be your priority but sadly our players are more concerned about making money from leagues, so it's no surprise they prefer playing abroad.

Don't care about the one day format.

They should only be excluded if they refuse to play 4-day cricket.

Surprised Saad Baig didn't pass. Also remember Danish Aziz, am surprised with him failing too, I don't remember him being unfit at international level a few years ago. Sharjeel Khan is the big name on that list who failed. Probably would have been a great opportunity to get back his PSL spot after recent successes in domestic.

Feels a bit weird picking on fitness for domestic. Not that I don't necessarily support it, but it's a bit rich when you can fail fitness tests and still play PSL and internationals and yet you can't play Champions One day Cup. Like Azam would have failed fitness test likely for this tournament had he not been playing CPL instead, and yet it was ok that he was picked for national side. And there are players like him that would have probably succeeded in this champions one day cup regardless of fitness, and yet would have failed in international t20 partly down to fitness.

Inconsistency and variability is what ultimately causes failure and lack of discipline.

Haris sohail is really the weirdest guy ever.

Good to see misbah has taken Rizwan under his wings, should be groomed for captaincy for nation team in all three formats

Keep Misbah and Azhar ali or any other tuktuk player away from this tournament

Now I'm worried about Rizwan.

Ahmed Shehzad still plays ????
Yep, he chose not to play in this tournament because he wanted free access to the national team and not work hard for that.

All of these guys should be sidelined from the next white ball series so that they can learn their lesson.

Best case scenario test team gets better, Whiteball gets worse.

Worst case scenario pakistan goes into an even bigger rut then the one with Bangladesh.

Misbah doesn't understand the shorter format of the game. Tbf his understanding is superior to babar's but that's not saying much

It's the worst case scenario. Misbah will select his cronies.

@Major is very happy

Should Pakistan fans be worried?
Brother, Misbah has had rizwan under his wings since forever. This is not their first time. It's nothing new.

Misbah had rizzu under his wings when he was captaining SNGPL, he had Rizzu under his wings vs NZ, and now he has rizzu under his wings again.

Idkw people are acting as of it's the first time

A bit like Zia ul Haq had Nawaz Sharif under his wing
