What's new

South Africa (138 & 285/5) defeat Australia (212 & 207) by 5 wickets in the final to clinch the World Test Championship 2023/25 title

And here we go :yk

This guy quoted me as soon as Bavuma got out on 38 telling me how he failed and now he is saying Carey won them the WTC with a 43 run knock and will explain to me how strike rate matter in a 5 day test match and how that makes Careys knock better.

Also that 66 in WTC 23 came when Aus already had a near 400 lead lol
That 66 was the difference between Indians thinking they could chase 400, to being mentally defeated.

This 43 run knock got Aus to a 200 run lead on a minefield spice pitch

Australia are #1 in ICC Test ranking. By winning WTC back to back, they can prove they are the undisputed #1 in Test format.
They need to fix their opening. Nothing will happen if Australia keep utilising Khawaja as an opener

Khawaja is 38 years old. I am guessing he would either retire soon or get dropped.

If I were him, I would call it a day after this WTC final. Great way to finish career with an ICC trophy (assuming Aussies would win).
The match has got interesting. I think 20-30 more runs and this is game over for Saffers.

218 is the lead atm with 2 wickets remaining for Aussies.

Agree. It has been a very interesting and high-quality game. Bowlers dominated.

Should be very difficult for South Africa to save the game.

Doubt it, he is already named in the wi squad tour.

These guys aren't retiring before Ashes 2025.

Also despite what people are claiming, I dont think Steve smith is retiring in 2025. It wouldnt make any sense. He quit odi and t20(hasn't announced his t20 retirement but we all know he's done from the international format) just to focus on Test cricket full time.

Wouldn't make any sense if he retired 2 series later lol.

Deadwoods like Khawaja will likely cost Australia the Ashes.

Their reports that Sam Konstas will be given a run for WI tour alongside Khawaja and Labu will move back to no 3.

Australia will utilise the WI series to see Konstas performance both overseas and as a whole. He's also expected to play sone practise matches in home den before ashes.

His performance will determine whether he opens or whether they continue with Labu.

This is total nonsense as why aren't they applying the sane metrics to Khawaja? Seniority means nothing if you can't score 10 runs for the life of you.

He will be ok on home phattas in Ashes.
Ashes aren't home phattas. Australia won't risk curating Perth tracks especially against bazzball England.

They will defo create bilo bounce to neutralise root. Smith, Travis and Labu are very good at playing short ball and waist high deliveries but Khawaja has never proven that he can post his form slump and age.

Hes not in his prime anymore

Bosch anyday can bowl high pace of up to 146 kmoh
Yes but his bowling is very one dimensional. Can't really get it to move around much. He has more utility as a lower order batsman who can score quickly. Mulder by comparison is a better bowler and can make the ball talk. He would do better with the bat too if he wasn't batting at 3. He's not a good enough batsman to be batting at 3.

Another big performance required from the Cap today.

it could be SA's first ICC trophy since 1998 and second overall but it seems like Pat will do it once again

Smith is 36 years old. I think he can play for 2 more years. Maybe even 3 if he is doing well.

I want smith to hit 11K test runs this year. He is 650 runs away from it and has 8 more tests to achieve it.

Im not sure about Konstas and his technique considering how much the ball moves nowadays.

From what I hear , Campbell Kellaway has the best technique among young Aussie bats.

I expect him to get an ODI debut in the home season and then in Tests after that. Just needs one more Shield Season and I think he'll be ready.

If South Afirca chase and win this match (somehow), then they will throw out the choker tag/devil over their back forever... If they can do this (in the toughest format, in the big stage - finals, against the biggest opposition ever in the history of cricket - Australia), then they must rank themselves best team and they can now start achieving anything in future... They have to do it... Go South Africa...

They will do it inshallah.

Starc didn't take single. Tail protecting other tail. Interesting.

Four from Starc.

Leading by 243 runs.

This would be the 4th highest successful chase in a test match at Lords.

Having said that, it seems like with a lot of patience and grind, runs can still be made on this deck. Hopefully, we have more than enough of a lead anyway.

Bavuma scoring a century to win this match would bring new wave of freshness to South African cricket!

Game is gone for saffer I think... 260+ is gonna be hard on this track.

200+ target has been chased only 4 times in lords so.... Well done australia

This perhaps reflects another "choking" capability of South Africa (very unfortunate indeed).
Don't think they choked. They just ran out of steam and the confidence they had built by reducing Aus to 7 down as the conditions got better for batting. Credit also to Starc and Carey for their dogged rearguard action.

This SA batting lineup just doesn't seem to have either the grit or the aggression to go after such a tall chase. I'd rather see them going at it aggressively than folding meekly to the Australian pacers. Rickleton would be key imo. A quickfire innings from him can give SA hope. Conversely if he falls early they will go into their shells and that never works with this Aussie attack.

South Africa have a golden opportunity here, the pitch has really eased out.

Pakistan let Rickleton score 250 runs plus against them in South Africa wheras he looks so ordinary against other premier sides.

Now I've said it Mulder will probably make a ton but not a fan of this idea of sending all-rounders instead of specialist batsmen up to #3.

Are the FC batting stocks really that bad that Australia and South Africa are having to promote Green and Mulder ?

@Hyder bro do u think considering a posters yesterday's famous argument based on one parameter, starc should come out and bat as opener in every second innings as he has has scored more runs than lot of batsmen 🤣.heck with probability , chances, luck etc
