What's new

South Africa [282/0] beat Bangladesh [278/7] by 10 wickets in the first ODI, take 1-0 series lead

I might be the only on on here with this opinion but, Taskin has to be the most overrated bowler being pushed by opposing fans for ages. I honestly can't see the hype.

He's young, quick and can move the ball both ways. Lots of work to do but he's got potential.

He rarely swings the bowl both ways. He hits the deck hard and extracts bounce.

There's a difference. Also he's been on the scene for a long time now, and there comes a point where potential isn't what you think it is anymore.

I think, 378 wasn't sufficient, so not much surprise here.

What is surprising for me (I actually did wake up at 3:25am for toss) is we are sending them to bat in Test on batting belters and them choosing to bat first in a day game!!!!

i was looking forward for ABD batting but looks like he won,t get a chance to bat :(:(

SA openners can target fourth highest opening partnership in odis

here are top 4

Tharanga, Jayasuriya 286 Sri Lanka

Warner, TM Head 284 Australia

Tharanga, Dilshan 282 Sri Lanka

JAH Marshall, BB McCullum 274 New Zealand

SA cruising to this one.

Decent score tbh but bowling not good enough in these conditions.

Decent score may be 10 years back, not now. In a day match we won't compete with SAF batting first, in SAF - only chance is to get them off guard. That won't happen on such wicket where they can chase anything just by batting out 50 overs. They chased similar scores against AUS inside 40 overs.

Not match wining but Bangladesh should have made them sweat more. It's not a very quick wicket either so could have used better variations and made scoring harder.

Of course 278 wasn't enough. But beating SA if they bat first is very hard.

I am talking about probability- in any case, blended odds it wasn't better than 10:1; may be 7:1 batting 2nd 13:1 batting first.

This is pitiful for such a cricket crazed nation. Why are we giving special treatment to Bangladesh again? They should be put alongside teams like Zimbabwe.

Who is giving special treatment here?

South African openers are having a net practice. They will win with some ten overs to spare, barely needing to go above the third gear.

There was a time when scoring rates in SA were quite low thanks to the pitches but these days they seem to produce only belters in ODI's.

inshallah Bangla-desh brothers will pick up these two wickets and then they will collapse

Bangladesh short by about 100 runs here.

I knew this pitch was a belter when Bangladesh scored 270+.

SA seem to be n prime form.

No excuses for India now, right?

India are not a very good ODI team at the moment. I'm not sure a couple of guys should even be in the XI. Hard to call the ODI's. It's the test matches that will be interesting. Might sound arrogant but i'm gonna put my neck on the line and say that we are gonna win the test series in SAF. :)

Amla involved 7 times in top 10 highest partnerships for any wicket for south Africa shows how important he is for south African team.

No excuse, but the pair is playing exceptionally well also. Hardly have seen such perfection.

May be 350+ could have stressed them - that's for pressure at the start; but if this pair could stay for 15 overs even then, they could have chased probably even 450 !!!!

In 90s, in SAF, we had probably 3 hundreds in full season or two - now in same match. Wonder, where we are heading towards in LO cricket.

I would blame this on bowling attack. This pitch is a belter. Even if u score 330, they'll chase if u don't pick up wickets.

Gotta feel for the Bangladeshi fans at the ground. They cam in numbers only to witness that pathetic display. Shameful.

Good luck to your team. It's going to be a super series, that's for sure. With the Ashes taking place around that time as well, this winter season will be great for cricket fans.

Bangladesh really needs to imrpove to compete in the current cricketing world especially outside Bangladesh.

Bangladesh needs atleast two good fast bowlers.

Taskin and Mustafizur were expected to be that duo but unfortunately both have limitations and are not improving.

These two were same bowlers if not better two years ago as they are now.

Minnow performance from a minnow side. Few months back - "Bangladesh would beat Pakistan in LOIs". Seems like some Bengalis on here are ready to take up stand up comedy.

THE Standard Bank Proteas kept their collective foot on Bangladesh’s throat when they crushed their visitors by 10 wickets in the opening Momentum ODI at the Diamond Oval on Sunday.

Bangladesh, who won the toss and opted to bat first, posted what might have seemed a respectable total of 278/7 but in reality it was well short of where they needed to be. The Proteas only needed 17 runs for victory going into the final 10 overs and with all their wickets still intact they would probably have gone on to make somewhere close to 400 if they had needed to do so.

It was a day of records for Hashim Amla (110 off 112 balls, 8 fours) and Quinton de Kock (168 off 145 balls, 21 fours and 2 sixes) whose final partnership of 282 was the joint sixth highest of all time and only four runs short of the first wicket record.

It goes without saying that it was a South African record for any wicket, beating the 256 by JP Duminy and David Miller against Zimbabwe at the 2015 World Cup. The previous best South African first wicket record was the 247 of Amla and Rilee Rossouw against the West Indies and it was the fourth instance of the Proteas having an opening partnership of 200 or more.

De Kock joined Amla and Herschelle Gibbs with two innings in excess of 150. Amla is the leader in this category, having done it for the Proteas on four occasions.

It was a 26th century for Amla and and a 13th for De Kock.

Amla gave a chance on 94 and De Kock one on 159 but by then the horse had well and truly bolted.

It was Amla’s third century in successive matches against Bangladesh.

De Kock, who would have enjoyed the opportunity to play a long innings after hardly getting a chance in the Test match, was named Momentum Man of the Match.

It was the Proteas seventh 10-wicket victory in this format and the fourth against Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh innings was built around the century by Mushfiqur Rahim (110 not out 116 balls, 11 fours and 2 sixes) who was unable to field after suffering a hamstring injury, adding to the injuries that have already cost them Tamim Iqbal and Mushtafizur Rahman for today’s match.

With the exception of Kagiso Rabada (4/43) and Dwaine Pretorius (2/48) the Proteas bowling figures did not look that impressive but on a pitch that offered neither seam nor spin that was not altogether unexpected.

Dane Paterson made his Proteas ODI debut, becoming the 121st player to make his debut in this format.

The second game in the three-match series takes place at Eurolux Boland Park on Wednesday (10h00 start).

Yes bro. This is gonna be a great season for cricket. Hopefully i can watch some of it.

BD bowlers have given club level performance in this series so far.

2 tests and one ODI - 12 or 13 wickets total

That's very poor performance.

BD has not absolutely shed its minnow status yet despite test wins against England/Australia. Anywho it is tough to tour SA. Congrats Rahim on a century against SA.

Embarassing performance. Puts into perspective the BD fans who thought it was Mushfiq's captaincy alone.

Bangladesh has a long way to go even in ODIs outside home.

Their bowling is embarrassing to be honest.

and some of them Have delusions of beating saffers in South Africa in the series, oh boy this is going to be mauling of epic proportions, coz forget about winning a test or an odi, cubs are not even competing, it's like a 12 year old kid has been pounded by brock Lesnar, it's like chi-chi vs jiren.

I dont know why everyone is losing their minds. This can happen to any team. "Great Bowling nation" Pakistan leaked the highest number of runs in an ODI against England last year.

BD remain a decent ODI team.

Absolutely agree; Bangladesh can easily come back in this series
