What's new

South Africa beat Pakistan by 13 runs (DLS method) in the third ODI to take 2-1 series lead

Amir has totally lost it. I'd be delighted to be proven wrong though.

But yeah exactly, Faheem hasn't even had a single opportunity to play a cameo like the one Imad played today. Every game he's played in either the top order has collapsed and he's come in halfway through the innings, or he hasn't needed to come in at all.

I blame the wet conditions for Shadab getting hit. Indian spin twins also failed when with the wet ball too last year.

Cannot believe how someone will question Shadab inclusion in the team. First two matches he bowled really well, and today the ball was wet and it was a T10 game on so obviously they would try to slog few against him. All bowlers got tonked after rain for that reason. Shadab batting is very useful when the collapse is on and he can hit few as well when needed. With his fielding he saves good 20 runs.

Fakhar and Amir both are the matchwinners in this team, but the last time they turned up was Tri-Series Final. Obviously clutchest guys in the team, but need to be more consistent.

Hasan and Babar are the exact opposite, Babar always scores runs, Hasan always takes wickets, but they can't change a game like the other two.

I'm not concerned though because this is the winter, and Pakistan always loses in the winter only to bounce back in June.

Put it this way nauman anwar us better than the cannon fodder we have got atm. He might have a poor average in domestic but he streets ahead of someone like imam who is a very selfish player and probably the worst opener i have ever seen open for pakistan and this is not an over reaction plain facts

Putting all the politics aside I don't feel right putting down the guy who held on to his own. We were like 9/1 and the situation could have easily developed into a typical 25/3 but he and Babar prevented a complete surrender.

Fakhar seems to be the weak link atm and we need to swap him with Shan. Before the match I would have said Imam out Shan in.

A team that give away 317 at home cannot be better on the day. They are a much better side than Pak though but today Pak were robbed just like the New Zealand series.

You clearly aren't aware of how . modern ODIs work and . how . the top teams play on batting pitches.

The thing is, before when Amir wasn't taking wickets he was still looking threatening and beating the bat and bowling at good pace. Now he looks totally flat.

Fakhar's issue is clearly a lack of confidence and doubts over his game. You can clearly see it when he bats.

REEZA HENDRICKS led a dominant Standard Bank Proteas batting performance after they had been a bit flat in the field to set up a 13-run victory over Pakistan via the DLS method in the third Momentum One-Day International at SuperSport Park on Friday.

The Proteas now lead the series 2-1 with two matches still to be played.

Momentum Man of the Match Hendricks (83 not out off 90 balls, 8 fours and 2 sixes) seemed certain to score his second ODI century until the rain intervened for the second time in the match. His partnership with Faf du Plessis (40 not out off 42 balls, 3 fours and a six) had realized a partnership of 108 for the third wicket in 19 overs.

At that stage the target of 130 in 17 overs with eight wickets in hand was a moderate one by T20 standards as the two batsmen had the chase well in hand.

What was particularly impressive was the way they handled the Pakistan spin bowlers which is something that is going to be very important as the World Cup approaches.

Earlier, Pakistan had set a target of 318 thanks to a fifth career century by Imam-ul-Haq (101 off 116 balls, 8 fours), who shared important stands of 132 in 23 overs with Babar Azam (69 off 72 balls, 7 fours and a six) and 84 in 12 overs with Mohammed Hafeez (52 off 45 balls, 6 fours and a six).

In the process Imam became the second fastest player ever to score 1 000 ODI runs (19 innings) with the only better effort being the 18 innings of his opening batting partner, Fakhar Zaman.

Dale Steyn (2/43 in 10 overs) was by far the pick of the South African attack that included a debutant in Beuran Hendricks, who shared the new ball with Steyn.

The Proteas produced a mixed bag effort in the field, dropping five catches, counter-balanced to some extent by two brilliant efforts by Andile Phehlukwayo and David Miller. Any goalkeeper would have been proud of the former effort while Miller sprinted more than 20 metres before diving to pluck his effort centimetres off the ground.

The life given to Babar, who has been the heart beat of Pakistan’s batting throughout the tour, on 9 was particularly important while Imam was also given a let-off.

The series now moves on to the Bidvest Wanderers on Sunday for the iconic Pink Day ODI (10h00 start CAT).

300 is par score here so 317 for Pak bowling was very defendable and had the rain not intervened it was proving to be a very good score. Myself and all the commentators been living in cave since modern game started because all of us had opinion that Pak scored well today which means SA were not better team on the day.

Pakistan scored well but I don't think it was a winning total. The pitch was flat and Pakistan's bowling is not that great.

Where 300 is a par score, you don't score just 310 or 317 on that pitch in this age and era.

Wrong tactics.

Any top 5 team will easily score 330-340 batting 2nd on such a pitch.

SA's fielding was absolutely horrendous. They almost paid the penalty. Hendricks played a great knock.

South Africa were running away with the game. Centurion is a tough ground to defend on, and even the lucky de Kock run out did not put is in the driving seat. Considering our pitiful bowling attack, we needed 330-340.

The New Zealand ODI would probably have gone down to the wire though, but I don't think it is a foregone conclusion that we would have won. It is not easy to defend totals in the UAE under lights.

More importantly, Sarfaraz is a choker. He cannot manage tense situations.

New Zealand did not deserve to lose that series, and South Africa did not deserve to go down 2-1 here.

From a south african perspective this shamsu is not a reliable spinner. He was hopeless today. Bowling so many drag downs. They should stick with Imran Tahir.

Pakistan still underscored as there is no batsman they have with a good strike rate all single knockers who were given ample support from SA fielding. SA fielded in a way to push Pakistan to atleast make 340 and they could'nt do more than 318.

Pakistan was all set to loose this one if rain would'nt have happened it would've been interesting contest and finally some worth watching cricket but Pakistan would'nt have stopped Proteas from winning. Even if Pakistan had scored 330 the dls would be in their favor. Again the batting is cause of defeat.

A team lacking hard hitting batsmen cannot keep Umar Akmal out of the team for 4 long years. We are still playing the 90's brand of accumulative run making.

Here's your hero:

Umar Akmal in ODIs:

Matches 116, Average 34.59, SR 85.94

Umar Akmal in T20Is:

Matches 82, Average 26.82, SR 122.90

People have problem with Babar's SR, this guys is much worse.
Keep in mind he is a middle/lower order batsman.

"Hasan mujhy bolna na pary, main last bar smjha raha hoon, wickto sy ball bahr na krna" - Sarfraz

"I am making you understand for the last time?" This is a disrespectful way to speak to an adult, Hasan is not a child.

Some ex Pakistani cricketers were saying if we make more than 250 we will defend that with this bowling. Today's match might shut the mouths of those whose having 90s mentality. In this pitch Pakistan were clearly 20 runs short. It's 340 pitch
